I really like this place. I recently relocated back to Sa from Corpus, and this is very close to my new home!! I've already been here several times and each time does not disappoint. The waiters and waitresses are on point. The food and drinks always great! This was Panchos and of course a Margarita..so so good! I'm so glad to be so close and such great food and service!!
Whenever we visit family, we eat here. Best Fajitas, best food, best tortillas made in house. Adrian served us today and did a fantastic job. He was warm and friendly and made our meal very special. Thank you Alamo Cafe! You never fail in 45 years I've been eating here!
Such good food? The warm tortillas melt in your mouth! Everything we had was perfect. It's so unusual to be able to get a good chicken fried steak AND perfect cheese enchiladas at the same location.
Great Saturday with the beautiful wife and my handsome baby boy. Last minute audible to Alamo Cafe was great. Wife smelled and knew she wanted the fajitas before we walked through the door. Loved the sky ceiling. And the tortillas! Food great! Waitress awesome!! Looking forward to the old school coin arcade inside next time.
I’ve been going here practically my whole life, but I haven’t given a review. If you want very consistent and very approachable Tex-Mex, I’d suggest Alamo Cafe. It’s a great joint that’s been embedded in the city for years. Special shoutout to our waiter Wyatt last night, the resteraunt was packed and he still got to us quickly and with a great attitude. Always been a great place! Been a go-to spot for life!
Had a great meal at Alamo Cafe. The fresh tortillas were excellent, as always. The service was perfect for a table of 9 and birthday party. Food was quick and we never had to wait on anything. Beef Fajita Enchiladas were delicious. Will always be back.
We usually come here before going to the theatre because we know our food will come fast. The food is usually good. We love their tortillas. Their servers are friendly and attentive. We rarely have to wait when we go on weekdays and before 6 pm. However, Fridays and Saturdays are another story. But, they have a wait list.
If you're looking for a quintessential San Antonio dining experience, Alamo Cafe is a local landmark that delivers exactly what it promises: comfort, flavor, and a warm Texas welcome. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is pure South Texas hospitality. The service is consistently friendly and attentive, making you feel like a regular even if it’s your first visit. For those who like a bit of a kick, the Fried Jalapeños are a standout. If you want a true taste of everything, the Dinner Combo #1 is the way to go. It’s a classic Tex-Mex plate that hits all the right notes. Between the cheese-smothered enchiladas and the crispy taco, it’s a generous portion that tastes like home cooking.
Recommended by a friend and it was definitely a win! Great location, clean, seated quickly, and the staff was amazing!! Highly recommend! Nice variety of menu items to choose from - salads, fajitas, quesadillas, and more. The tortillas were amazing! Definitely go check this place out - we'll be back.
Recently we had a bad experience at Alamo Cafe, I submitted a comment online and the manager reached out to me and offered to make things right, and invited us to give them another chance. We did, and the experience was so much better this time. The manager Paul personally greeted us and made sure that everything was just right and our server Sydney was very friendly and attentive and checked back often to see how we were doing. The food was excellent and we had a great time!
Super delicious meal of authentic Mexican food. Great variety including classics like tacos, burritos and enchiladas, with the ability to create your own combos. The queso was superb and the handmade flour tortillas were outstanding. Tiffany was a delightful server, extremely friendly and helpful plus very attentive to our groups' needs. Love this place!
The food at Alamo Café is absolutely delicious! The fresh, homemade tortillas are made right on-site — hot, soft, and ready to eat. Every bite tastes authentic and comforting. I also really appreciate the atmosphere. The restaurant is quiet enough that I can take my pops out for lunch or dinner, and he doesn’t feel left out of the conversation because of background noise. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy great food and even better company
Alamo Cafe is so good! I can see why there are so many reviews. The fresh tortillas are delicious! I could eat just a plate of them. And the chips and salsa were also excellent. I ordered the brisket quesadillas which are a customer favorite, my favorite too. I’m coming back and this time for drinks too. Thanks to Reyna for the great recommendations.
The food and service at this place was hands down the best. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Country fried steak was a hit as well as the shrimp enchilada. Tortillas with butter was out of the park. Salsa isn't the most flavorful I've had but it had a nice spice to it. Tortilla chips were nice and warm. Highly recommended.
Last week I attended a Celebration of Life party at the Alamo Cafe'. It was thrown by the family of the deceased, to honor the friends and family that were close to the deceased during his life. The rented room was upstairs and held 25. We picked from 3 meal choices. I had Sizzling Mixed Fajitas with refried beans, Spanish rice and ice tea. The dinner was filling and delicious. The event itself was done well. I was impressed with the interior decor of the restaurant. They had painted a blue sky mural on the ceiling and had a water fountain. It was pretty. It's not often that the quality of the decor is mentioned, but this sets Alamo Cafe' apart from some other Mexican restaurants. I will visit there again!

Interesting intersection of good meals and service and not what we ordered and "Does anyone see a waiter?" I like the place and suggested it for family lunch. Party of 7, couple of kids. Neither of the kids orders was correct and went back to the kitchen. I had the chicken fried steak with a house salad. Salad hit the table after the entree. I like my salad last but would have been happy to have it offered up front. Overall experience was OK but long and drawn out, I dont want to rush a meal but hate for everyone to be done and food still coming out.
We have enjoyed the entrees ordered on the multiple occasions we have been here. The service has been generally friendly and there hasn't really been long wait times when we have gone. The one small thing we have is the salsa and chips are not great; however for us this is not a huge deal since its something you are offered for free and not a food you pay for. That being said if the chips were a bit better/different and they offered a salsa option that was less spicy than the current one..we would enjoy them even more!
It's big and noisy inside, the food meets expectations but doesn't exceed them in any way. However, the service is exceptional-- especially in the bar area. And insider tip: ask your server for a bag of freshly made tortillas to take home!
After living in SA nearly 20byesrs, I don't remember eating in an Alamo Cafe. And that's because I thought it contained only Tex Mex food, but, it has other choices as well! I got the Chicken Fried Chicken and it was very good. We sat upstairs overlooking the dining room. The restaurant is much bigger that it looks from the street. There's a stream with running water inside to look at. It's a bustling restaurant with good food and friendly staff.
I was there Fri 11/01. No wait time. It's a nice restaurant. Prices are not bad at all. I ordered a margarita but it wasn't that good. It tasted as if it were from a bottle. Not fresh mixed. We got tortillas And butter as appetizer and they are delicious. Also got chips and salsa. We waited a bit for the food. Restaurant was not packed. We never got refills water/ soda.

The food is good, the service is good, there is usually a wait but not too long. The serving sizes have gotten smaller but the tortillas are still fresh and hot
The food is good here but it is so loud I could not even enjoy myself. I swear my ears are ringing. And it does seem like management does not care.
Been a customer since the 1st day the original restaurant opened on San Pedro near 410. All of a sudden we notice a lot of changes and not for the better. 1 tortilla per customer by default when they used to bring more than you could eat ( plenty to take home). I’ve never been a fan of their Tex-Mex dishes simply because they aren’t authentic, but my family likes them. My GOTO is chicken fried steak with double green beans. YES It’s gotten smaller and more expensive over the past 40 years, but still tasty. That is until this year. Last one I got although bigger than usual, was a very bready chicken fried MEATLOAF per my assessment. In my opinion it was aweful. So last visit I instead got a Tex-Mex chicken dish my dad always orders. This too was very different - poor chicken must have been starved when she was alive. Wonder if it’s under new ownership-certainly something is way off if your a long time customer. My whole family is now debating whether after 40+ years Alamo even stays on our rotation. For me they go from 5 stars to 3. Sad.
I visited this location a couple times in the past. Tonights visit the food was so so, the The fajita Trio platter, was not good at all. the chicken, shrimp and beef was over cooked and hard. The atmosphere was very loud and you could hardly hear the waitress or the conversation at our table. The waitress messed up our other order also. Ordered one thing and received something else. The staff were very pleasant and nice. Would not recommend eating here.
I've been going to Alamo Cafe for over 20 years. The portion sizes have gotten abysmal. $7+ for *this* chicken fajita taco? You've got to be kidding me.

My boyfriend and I came in last night around 7:30ish for dinner, and we sat on the patio. The patio atmosphere was amazing! But that was the only good part of the visit. It took us around 7-10 minutes to be greeted by a server, and to get drinks. We ordered our food, appetizers, and margaritas — the food came out quickly, but we were still missing our margaritas. We saw a manager walking around peeking at tables, but there were no table touches done by the manager. There was no check in done by the server after we received our meals. The food was delicious (paid $57 total), even though my order was wrong. Because we couldn’t flag down a server or a manager, we had to just skip the margaritas and I couldn’t correct my entree. We saw our server maybe twice (three times would be generous) during our visit. Honestly really terrible experience with Alamo Cafe, and unfortunately won’t return.
