Opinions de food court San Antonio
Umai Mi has a vegan salad that's bursting with flavor.... So good. I wish I could have it every day!
Love the vibes in this hall. I tried Umai Mi which is an interesting take on Asian food (mainly Vietnamese). I appreciate that the food was proper spicy, and all ingredients were fresh especially for the bún bowl. My only feedback is there wasn’t enough fish sauce for the portion. I would skip the matcha though.
The Historic Pearl's Food Hall at Bottling, otherwise known as the Bottling Department Food Hall, is an excellent space to grab a bite + take a break from the Texas heat as you are exploring the Pearl! :-) They have a variety of vendor options, including everything from Mexican street food to pizza, burgers + sandwiches, and brews. The space is really beautifully curated, and there is lots of seating!! My first visit occurred on a Monday afternoon (during a holiday) with my boyfriend, and we had no trouble getting a table after placing our food and drink orders. Pearl's Food Hall is very clean & well-kept, making it all the more inviting!
So many perfect food options to choose from! I had a difficult time choosing which place to eat :) Loved the look of the hall, the brick, the wood beams. It was very clean for the amount of people in and out of there.
Great food court! WonderSlice is some of the best pizza in this entire region. There isn’t a single food item of theirs I don’t like. My other favorite is Chilaquil. The absolute best bean and cheese tacos in this city; they use a very good dark bean to make their tacos. It adds amazing flavor. Must. Try. The atmosphere is nice, but the place can get pretty crowded, and seating is limited. Overall, a must try. You will be back multiple times to test all of the places, and you should!
We had some food from 4 of the restaurants. Pizza from Wonder slice which was melt in your mouth, Reuben with hand cut chips from Howdy Child, 3 piece fried chicken with fries and Mac n cheese from Freight chicken which my son said was the best chicken he's ever had, and sweet potato fries from Henbit which were soft and delicious.
Really lovely place to decompress (and rehydrate) after exploring the Pearl complex. The building is absolutely stunning - imposing wood beams rest above you as you dine. The whole thing is exceptionally charming. We had a couple of fantastic frozen mango margaritas and a selection of Mexican food from Chilaquil. All was delicious, and the vibes were immaculate.
My mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I visited the Food Hall at Bottling over Memorial Day weekend. This review is long over due! The atmosphere is amazing. It’s located in a really cool area of town. Love the urban green space and the outdoor seating options! The inside of the hall has a lot of food options and seating options. I thought that it was well maintained and clean! Everyone seemed very friendly! I’ll do individual reviews for the restaurants we ate from too!! I highly recommend this place when you’re eating with a group or with people with a range of food preferences!! Thank you, Food Hall at Bottling!
This food hall is small compared to most about 4-5 places to order food/drinks from. I tried “The Real Recipe/Freight Fried Chicken” and it was delicious! I ordered a 3 piece fried chicken with Mac and cheese, sweet tea, and their pecan pie bites. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, that Mac and cheese could be served on an old boot and still steal the show. I enjoyed that I got to keep the container the tea came in, it’s so cute and served as a great water bottle while walking around after. Only thing I didn’t like was the spicy ranch just too tangy for my liking. Joseph was kind, and even came to the table to check on everyone. You don’t get customer service like that at alot of food halls
For a food court place, it is very tasty. If you come expecting the highest quality things then you’ll leave disappointed. That be my said, for being a hipster food court in a hipstery part of town it was very good food. The ambiance is very family friendly and a lot of fun. There we’re kids everywhere and a fountain outside that the kids were treating like a water park. A god time was had by all.
Another beautiful addition to The Pearl! I loved my ham and swiss panini (with added bacon and avocado) from The Good Kind. The boys loved their burgers from Fletcher's. The teenager's favorite thing was his milkshake. Our only complaint were the loaded fries, which we were so excited about. Pretty limp. And we didn't care for the cheese sauce. But we would love to give that another try... or just get the regular fries.
Overall the food court is well kept, clean and friendly staff. Down side, many flies come into the area as doors open and close consistently. Out of the restaurants in the food hall the best tasting and most popular is the Tenko. The ramen is very good. Great taste and very filling. A definite come back for more ramen. Second most popular would be Fletchers. The burgers and sodas are well done and tasty. The Good Kind was ok. Food was a little bland, a little more creativity or taste could help. Still have two more restaurants to taste, but for now Tenko takes the best and most popular restaurant within the food hall.
Henbit in the main food hall is a joke of a food stall. Terrible service and even worst food. Cold hamburgers being served and the cashiers like to snark and steal cash tips. 18$ for 2 drinks and a single burger is insane for such low quality. Try Frieghts chicken instead.
If you’re going to the pearl, skip this food hall and just go to the Pullman market right next-door. You might also just get better food at any of the farmers market stands around the area if you get there on the weekends. The Umai Mi booth was extremely overpriced and extremely underwhelming for what you pay. We paid $19 for a Thai curry that would be valued at maybe eight dollars at best. It is already premade and they’re not even noodles that are included and are instead of crunchy noodles that are essentially pre-bought from a bag and placed into the curry that you buy. We also stopped at one of these sandwich places in the food hall, and they got our phone number wrong, and so we were never notified that our sandwich was ready, causing it to end up soggy. Don’t bother tipping at any of these places since you end up coming to the counter to order and coming back to the counter to pick it up.
Very crowded, humid area with lack of movement, food is overpriced and lack of flavor and quality. Customer service is ok but lacks the variety, if you’re trying to budget and trying to find food to eat, don’t come here, overpriced and little quality of food. Very small area to move around in and all you can deal with is the heat of others pushing you. Out of any food I tried this year, absolute worst
Umai Mi was genuinely terrible. A bahn mi is hard to get wrong but they made it look easy. NINETEEN dollars for the worst sandwich ive ever had. The only seasoning was mayo. The addition of thai basil really didnt help. And the soft tofu tasted like water. The bun was equally flavorless. Tasted like seasoned it with water. Expensive and bland. Unbelievably bad.
Based on the Express News Sunday article by Mike Sutter, we decided to go to Umai Mi, at The Pearl. Big mistake! First, it was a very cold day and the food court is freezing 🥶 inside. This is the worst example of a Bahn mi sandwich! I threw my half in the trash. We asked for the beef sandwich. I found this very surprising as the Bahn mi sandwiches that I have had are delicious, thin pieces of marinated pork, such as the ones at The French Sandwich, on Fredericksburg Road and Wurzbach Roads. And, they weren’t $20 each! I ordered the ones with beef. They had used thick slices of fajita that was so tough that I couldn’t even chew it. I was very curious about their deviled eggs. They were a vast improvement over the sandwich but needed salt. There are no salt and pepper shakers anywhere. I would have been happy with those little paper packets. Our meal costs $44 for a sandwich, 2 deviled eggs and 2 drinks. The eggs are $11 for two eggs!! Never again! In fact, I spoke to a young lady who was reading the menu and debating whether to order. I strongly advised against it!
