I’m a weekly patron of the Texas Star Inn, and it’s truly a special place for my family. We gather there every week for karaoke, and it’s become a cherished tradition. The brisket and ribs are absolutely addictive—consistently delicious and worth coming back for again and again. What really sets the Texas Star Inn apart is the warm, family-oriented atmosphere. The staff and the karaoke DJ feel like part of the extended family, and their consistent presence (as well as the regular patrons) makes every visit feel welcoming and familiar. With plenty of space and a great layout, it’s also an excellent venue for events. Whether you’re coming for the food, the fun, or the community, the Texas Star Inn delivers on all fronts. I highly recommend it.
Love the bbq here. They have different live bands or singers on certain days. Karaoke on certain days. Give good portions of food.Good chicken fried steak. My son had the rib eye steak and it was so good.
First visit under the new ownership—and definitely won’t be the last. Stopped in twice: once for takeout, once for a sit-down dinner at the bar. Both meals hit the spot. First time, I went with the brisket sandwich—tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. On my second visit, I couldn’t resist the chicken fried steak (and yes, I totally forgot to snap a pic—rookie move, I know). Great music, attentive service, and prices that don’t break the bank. Already looking forward to my next visit. Word to the wise, the kitchen closes at 9pm sharp, not 9:03, 9:02, 9:01 - 9pm and they don’t budge not even for cold food to go.
Heard great things about the catfish here in local restaurant groups so had to check it out. (Good catfish is hard to find in San Antonio) Solid recommendation for sure! Not the best I've had but top 5 for sure.. The fish has what I consider, proper breading. It's cooked perfectly! The sides are fresh and delicious, price is reasonable, and the service was on point. Jackie was also hella cool to chat with while my food was cooking. Keep her! 10/10 overall experience as far as food, service, and price... She even told me to call her at the restaurant and let her know if I enjoyed the meal. Give her a raise ! (7621 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238)
This place is very very clean. The employees were pleasant. This was our first visit here. Everyone's taste is different. I thought the fried fish and hushpuppies were amazing. With mac and cheese, you never know so many places do it differently. This was more of a creamy white cheese. It was good, not great. The green beans were great with meat and tomatoes in them. The atmosphere was amazing. The restrooms were cute, well-stocked, and very clean. When we entered all the tables and floors were clean. The pinto beans were wonderful. We will visit again. We forgot our left overs on the table. The waiter ran out with a big smile.
I’ve been a few times. The food is delicious. The turkey is phenomenal. The green beans could use a little more seasoning, but the pinto beans are spot on. The side salad, almond with the meats on the 2 meat plates are a good sized portion. The sweet tea isn’t too sweet, it’s just right. I wish they had jalapeños on the condiment bar but the pickles and onions are adequate.
This place used to be known as Grady's BBQ. I do not know if they just changed names or actually changed staff and cooks too. But it doesn't really matter. I ordered the chopped barbecue sandwich combo with french fries. The tasty french fries are battered and the chopped sandwich was very delicious. They have pickles and onions free of charge along with the usual condiments. This place was impeccably clean and well-decorated with western singers pictures on the wall etc. I've also had the fried catfish here and it is great. So if you're in the area and in the mood for some good barbecue or Southern cooking, I would definitely give this place a shot.
Loved loved LOVED the food, atmosphere, service and music! We found a new BBQ place that we will definitely come back to!! The brisket was so tender, beans on point with even some veggies in it, and cheesy Mac + delish desserts!! 5 stars all around 🤍
Another great find and it has a lot of history. Thursday is steak night. I had the fried catfish. They have a full bar. They have a dance hall. Highly recommend. We will be back!
Weekly specials are affordable, well proportioned and tasty. I had the 2 pc. catfish with a side on Tuesday for $9.99. Best part of the visit was they carry Dr. PIBB Xtra!!!! That spicy soda is so good. 🔥 The service was attentive, the atmosphere is positive and best of all country music performances on selected dates!

Definitely my go to spot after work! Good vibes, bartenders are awesome! Nice Happy Hour spot!
Saturday Lunch with friends at this fine establishment. The food and service was great! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. We ordered chicken fried steak, catfish, burger, beef nachos, macaroni & cheese, cream corn, potato salad, brisket sandwich, grilled cheese.
I love how they really brought this place back to life! We have been here several times over the last several months and it's a new favorite! The catfish is excellent 👍 The catfish and shrimp plate is a fave! We have gone twice for ribeye night on Thursdays for $19.99. It's good, but I can cook one better on my pit 🤪 Great options at the bar and good happy hour specials! Try it and like it!

Texas Star Inn is a great restaurant, bar, and dance hall. Both locals and visitors come here to enjoy the live music, great Texas BBQ, ice cold drinks, and big dance floor together. Come here if you enjoy fantastic Texas BBQ brisket while listening and/or two-stepping to some of the most talented bands in San Antonio in a fun and family-friendly environment. I like the BBQ brisket w/cream corn and fried okra. I also really like the brisket nachos w/jalapeños and pico de gallo.
Atmosphere was great, went during lunch so it was super calm. BBQ was good, like 7 out of ten. Brisket could use more smoke, jalapeño sausage was great and pulled pork had good flavor. Ribs were a little dry but good flavor. Potato salad was good and Mac and cheese was really good. Would recommend, and it looks like it could be a fun evening spot with live music.
Nice nice place, Danielle was very pleasant and just right on time checking on me. Food was good, I did the 3 meat plate. Had brisket, sliced, jalapeño sausage, pulled pork with green beans and coleslaw. The brisket was mostly tender, had a few pieces along the edge that were pretty dry. The sausage was good but for jalapeño sausage lacked in the heat department. The pulled pork was way to salty for my tastes and I like a lot of salt so remember that if you are thinking of the pulled pork. The green beans were home style with tomatoes in them and the coleslaw slaw was nice and coarse which I prefer over shredded. Unfortunately it lacked much flavor so it didn't stand out any more than that. Would I return? Heck yeah I will, maybe chicken fried steak and all the fixins next time.
Chicken fried Chicken was good and crispy nice flavoring. Personal choice to salt and pepper the mashed potatoes mac and cheese (Mac needs more butter n cheese). The cream corn is sweet and delicious. Kelly the cashier was wonderful as were the food runners who brought food to the table. They added a bar which was cool to see. More modern use of the establishment. Decent sized dance floor. Would be interested to see what the room looks like at night.
Super clean place! Service is fast and the place is roomy! The fried fish and shrimp was good! Beans need more salt though! Cole slaw was ok! Yesterday I had brisket and it was good! Fried pickles, mushrooms and onion rings are good! I recommend they add more seasoning to the beans and potato salad.

The atmosphere is great here, very rustic. The bartender is cute and friendly. I tried the brisket and pulled pork. The pulled pork was fantastic, the brisket was dry but had good bark. If the brisket was juicier I would have given 5 stars. Overall it's a pretty cool place to hang out and grab a couple of drinks to wash down the good food.
For the money, it wasn't very good. Tons of extra breading and the meat was bland and tough. For $16.99, was very disappointed. The mashed potatoes were great, but the green beans were over cooked and really sweet. Gravy was just OK, Walmart gravy at the deli is better than this was.
The new place is beautiful! Great atmosphere, nice and clean! The staff were pleasant. My husband and I paid for the country fried steak. Perfect size for me, but not for my husband. They served us a ladies portion and even that fooled us! Most of our breading came off. The meat was delicious, but my gravy was cold. The green beans were delish!!! The cold slaw tasted like soapy water??? Not even a sweet or pickled taste to it, just pepper and soap. We spent $42 for two and we had tea.🤨🤨 The pic shows all my breading that came off.
Wow. Not terribly busy but plan on waiting a loooong time to get your mediocre food. Most food is served on a tin tray and in paper containers. The creamed corn is very bland and starchy like from a can. The mashed potatoes taste like from a box. Probably the worst chicken fried steak in town. Extremely greasy. The steak was tough and fried didn’t even attempt to stay on due to the grease. One positive, the atmosphere is nice and the place seems clean. I definitely will not be returning.

They had a ribeye special, a 16oz ribeye and a baked potato for 19.99. My self and my 2 boys got the special. The ribeye was fatty throughout every bite. I had to spit out the hard pieces into a napkin. My boys did as well. The cut of ribeye was poor and cheap. You definitely get what you pay for. It was not worth the 19.99 at all.
I’ve been eating at this place regularly for the past 10 months, but my experience yesterday was extremely disappointing and will be my last visit. I called in an order for two meats. Before leaving, I noticed the container felt very light, so I opened it and saw it only had one meat. I brought it to their attention, and they took it back, saying they would correct it. The lady at the counter brought it back to me, and I left to return to work. Once I got back to my desk and opened the container, the food was still unacceptable. The brisket was mostly a chunk of fatty meat, and the turkey looked dry. I tasted the turkey—normally my go-to since I usually order the turkey salad—and it was extremely salty. It seems like the entire staff has changed, possibly with new cooks, and the quality has clearly gone downhill. I tried calling to speak with a manager and was left on hold for about 10 minutes. I had to hang up because I needed to return customer calls. After my shift, about an hour and a half later, I went back to request a refund. The manager said she refunded $19.45 to my card. I told her I paid cash, which should have been obvious on the receipt. She then handed me cash, and I left. When I stopped at another restaurant to pay for lunch, I realized she had only given me $14.42 back. I had to drive back again, and she then gave me an additional $5 bill. This place used to be better than Grady’s, but it’s clearly going backward. Between the food quality, poor service, and refund issues, I will no longer be visiting for my weekly lunch.
