Opinions de Little Red Barn Steakhouse San Antonio
Whenever I come back to overseas, I always visit Little Red Barn. It used to be more frequent, but I don’t live in San Antonio anymore. I’m a huge fan of their salads and dressings and of course their steaks and potatoes. I recommend this place to anybody living in San Antonio that hasn’t been yet or someone who’s coming for a weekend visit
We came down to visit family from KY and find the place thru reviews online. What a treat! Excellent food. Easy to find. We order both chicken and steak. All our meals were jucy and hot(tempeture) well season and VERY NICE staff. Fast service even that they were so busy. Prices were reasonable we had a party of 9 and the bill was about $100. Bread was good and warm. Yes the decor was not modern and the chairs are picnic table but honestly we went for the food not the decor. My husband dont like the picnic style because of his back and they have chairs available for this purpose. The homemade dressing is great!
Wonderful & tender steaks. We had ribeye steaks with salad & loaded baked potatoes with everything. The steaks were ordered medium rare but more on the medium side but it was delicious. We ordered a cheesecake with strawberries sauce. It was delicious & massive definitely enough for two. This restaurant is a longtime Texas favorite for over 50 years and has been around since I was a kid. Highly recommend. Come experience a little bit of Texas.
Just an F.Y.I... the steaks here are never going to taste like any other competitors. They've always, (I'm 44 and have come here for MANY years) had their own taste. It truly is an acquired taste. I like my steaks medium well. When I've come, I know to order medium here. As soon as you arrive, you have fresh salads and crackers! NICE! Friendly staff. They have a few that have been working here for some time now. The golden rule has always applied here, (Treat others the way you'd like to be treated!) Having said these things about the "Barn", let me add a photo of an empty plate! A full plate will show what you have, an empty plate will show you what you are missing! Now, who's hungry?
Hubby and I ordered the special that they were having. We both ordered the Ringo Special that included the Chop't Sirloin with grilled onions 🌰 jalapenos and cheese 🧀. You get a side with it I decided on French Fries 🍟 instead of a baked potato 🥔. It also includes a salad 🥗 and bread 🍞. The jalapenos did have a kick to them. The food was delicious 😋.
I live in Michigan, I visit Little Red Barn every time I’am in town. Great food, unique atmosphere, and great service. Ray was our server, he is absolutely great!! Very polite, attentive, and organized.
The wait is well worth it. The only place I specifically ordered my steak a unique way and it was on que🤌 thank you Roberto that asked how I liked it and perfected it flawlessly🫡.
Food was excellent and the server was too. We were a large group (24) but she took good care of everyone.
Pic nic tables and tea, we enjoyed our steaks. Visited here for a buddy's retirement party. Lots of space, service was great as well
UPDATE: Had a great steak to celebrate culinaria week good service, great perfectly cooked Ribeye steak and baked potato. See you again soon.I was so happy to eat by myself and not be asked, "just one?" Like I'm not enough, thank you for that! The food was perfect, my steak was exactly as ordered and very tender. The potato was perfectly cooked and the salad amazingly fresh. My server was great and gave me a quiet place just as I asked. (Here lately, everywhere I've been, the music was too loud to carry on a conversation with tablemates and this was very enjoyable. ) A good crowd, but not noisy. I'll be back soon.
Been coming here for decades. The cold bowl of salad is always a great way to be welcomed. A pitcher of dressing of your choice..as much as you want. Tender steaks and superb desert. Pecan pie wasn't all sugary and the crust was great. I got it served warm at the waitess' suggestion. The atmosphere is so fun. Bring your family and out-of-towners.
They changed the menu a little. I guess due to inflation. Worth it for special occasions. But not the everyday steakhouse. Well worth the trip to enjoy a great steak. The picnic tables, however, are so uncomfortable.
Always the greatest tasting steak ever. My daughter brought me today for my Birthday. Amazing food, service, friendly employees and ambiance. I've been coming here for over 40 years
We were looking for a steakhouse away from the Riverwalk area, and Little Red Barn did not disappoint. I had the sirloin medium rare and it was a great steak. Perfectly seasoned with no need for sauce, though they have it if you want it. Steak fries also have a seasoned salt on them, which is always appreciated! Apple pie, though a bit pricey(what isn't these days), was also very good.
It's been a long while since we've been here. My hubby and I had a delightful meal. Started off with A+ service. Our waitress was extremely friendly and a ray of sunshine. Husband got the medium rare porter house and fully loaded baked potato. It was tender, juicy, and had a great amount of flavor that steak sauce wasn't needed. I got a medium rare 10oz ribeye with a fully loaded baked potato. Again the meat was juicy, flavorful, and tender. Really rich and delicious. The baked potato was baked to perfection...not overcooked or undercooked. The cheese, bacon bits, and sour cream come in a small container. Whipped butter is already in a basket on the table for you. Meal also came with a house salad and rolls. The rolls are sweet. Their thousand island dressing is as great as I remembered it. We ended up sharing a cheese cake. A nice thick piece. Fabulous! Yes it is pricey but for us it was well worth it. Total amount was $108.95 with a 20% tip included.
Let me start by saying, I LOVE STEAK! I'm very particular about my steak. Seasoning, preparation, how it's cooked, the whole 9 yards. Little Red Barn does steak right! We walked in on a Wednesday night at 7pm. There was plenty of seating available even though they had a large group in one of the side rooms. We were immediately greeted with 2 delicious salads served in perfectly chilled metal bowls with our choice of dressing. My wife and I both chose the house dressing, "Green Goddess", and let me tell you it was amazing! I will say if you're one of those people that doesn't like cilantro you may not like it because it does taste like it has cilantro in it. I am one that LOVES cilantro so it was right up my alley. My wife and I both had a half and half mix of sweet and unsweet tea. They brought an entire pitcher to the table and left it! You want to make me a happy man, you bring me an entire pitcher of whatever I'm drinking to the table and leave it there for me, you've hit God level server status in my eyes. 🙌 This tea was the perfect blend of southern sweet tea cut just right for my diabetic ass. I don't do it often but this was worth the splurge. I ordered a porterhouse steak prepared medium rare with a side of steak fries. The steak was cooked perfectly seasoned just right and served on a metal plate. I didn't even need to cut into it to check it. I knew it was done right. The steak fries were nicely seasoned with a special blend of spices and were fried to perfection. My wife ordered the skewers prepared medium well with a loaded baked potato. Her skewers were tender and delicious served with onion and bell pepper slices. The potato was cooked well and not overdone served with plenty of butter, sour cream, cheese, and bacon. We both received freshly baked dinner rolls with our meal served with honey and butter. May I suggest opening one of the butter spread containers, filling it the rest of the way with honey and mix it together using your knife. This made a perfect honey butter spread for the hot and fresh dinner rolls. For dessert we ordered a slice of their decadent cheesecake prepared by a local bakery daily. The waiter recommended their strawberry sauce to drizzle over the cheesecake and I must say it was the perfect addition. The service was top notch and above and beyond! Edit: I forgot to leave pictures!
Overall was a great first experience. Walked in and were greeted by multiple employees and were handed a starter salad. The steak was delicious, cooked to our liking and the atmosphere was pleasant. The best part of the experience though was our server, Rudy, I think? Nevertheless, he was on top of making sure my family and I were taken care of and had the best customer service! Give that man a raise!
The Little Red Barn is the first authentic Texas steakhouse we have ever been to and the experience was truly unlike anything we've been to. It is popular with the locals and is recognized as a historic business by the Texas Historical Commission. The service is incredibly well organized and fast, we had our salads and our drink order before we even had a chance to sit down! The menu was simple, the food was great and filling. However, the breading on the fried chicken was plain (as it was meant to dip in the gravy). My boyfriend enjoyed his steak and I enjoyed the large ranch dressing that was served.
this was our very first time visiting. We were greeted and seated right away. our waitress so so amazing I wish I could remember her name. Every meal come with a house salad, it was okay not my favorite but the dressing was good. The waitress brought us a few rolls and omg they were amazing. Let’s just say I took some home with us. they were absolutely delicious and they have plenty of delicious butter. the drinks weee also good and my husband enjoyed his 32 oz beer. I got the 6 oz sirloin with the loaded baked potato. the steak was a tiny over cooked for medium but it was still delicious. The baked potato was one of my favorite things and will definitely be back for another one. I would get the steak medium rare next time though. my husband tried the chop steak 12 oz and he said it was delicious, he also tried the steak fries and got a loaded baked potato as well. we had an amazing time celebrating my best friends birthday and definitely recommend giving this place a try. we will definitely be going back soon.
First let me say if you are looking for a steakhouse with tables and candle light this is not it. I really is a red barn. But don’t let that fool you. Walked in to this place and was seated promptly to a picnic table. The server showed us to the table and then asked us what dressing we wanted for the salad that was right behind us. Ok so then her comes a 1 gallon picture of dressing. Ok so then the server asked us if we need time to look at the menu. I said I haven’t got one yet. Oh wait there is a 2’ x 5’ board they put at the end of the table. Ok I got the 18oz ribeye and sweet potato fries. The wife had 6oz filet and baked potatoe. Have to ask if they have filet cause it’s not on menu. The food food came out and OMG was is good. Tender steak cooked just the way we asked and didn’t have to wait 30 mins to get it either. Now we love a good mom and pop place to eat and this place lived up to the bill. I don’t know how anyone could complain about eating there. Just a great place to go.. highly recommend.
I ate there back in the 60's back when they first opened. The atmosphere, food, and service hasn't changed over the years. The building is larger the parking lot is larger and prices have gone up. Still reasonable given inflation. I attribute their success toward not becoming a chain. Highly recommend.
There was a wait but not too bad especially with the rodeo going on. Nothing fancy, loud family friendly restaurant with delicious food. If you like garlic, get the Green Goddess Salad dressing, I even put it on my baked potato! Definitely get the rolls, soft & warm, addictive. We were really hungry, forgot to take pictures. 🤦♀️ 🤷♀️
First time here. My first thought was expensive. The steaks are good. I had the chicken fried steak. I found it odd that there is no mashed potatoes here. I had this amazing gravy, but nothing to put it on. I got the baked potato, but it's not the same. The pecan pie was amazing. And the apple pie. Key lime was good.
Shout out to Ray the server who took care of large group for Birthday Party for my step daughter last night. My fiancé brought to mind this morning how on top of things he was bringing kids food out first. Taking order correctly and bringing the food out in same order he took it. He did great job with refills. Thanks Ray keep up the great job! You are appreciated for your hospitality it was appreciated on this very special occasion.
I love a good steak and Little Red Barn has never let me down. I don't know how their salad (that does not have much) taste SO GOOD! Yeast rolls are pillowy soft. Our server Celeste was awesome!
First time I had meetings at this restaurant and I’ll have to say it serves the MOST delicious food! The portions are generous and reasonably priced. The service? FAST! You better get there early before they open because they have people waiting in line to get in even before the doors fly open! A big shout out to the manager and staff! They are ever so friendly and accommodating to their patrons! I will definitely be back!
The Little Red Barn Steakhouse is a fantastic dining destination, especially for families and large groups seeking a satisfying meal. Their chopped steak is a standout dish, expertly prepared to achieve a delightful crispiness on the outside, complemented by a generous char that enhances its flavor, while remaining juicy and tender on the inside. The restaurant's welcoming atmosphere and attentive service further elevate the experience, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality food in a friendly environment.
A very unique place. I've never been greater with a salad and a giant dispenser of ranch dressing before. The service is quick here, so don't plan on waiting. Great food and a perfect cook, we're hard to get sometimes. We're on both ends of the spectrum, rare and well done. Great place, perfect decor for a steakhouse. A menu anyone can read.
We had dinner here for the first time and we enjoyed a wonderful meal! The house dressing was fantastic and my steak & fried shrimp was delicious. Loved the rolls with butter and my husband’s fried pork chop and gravy was amazing! The hostess and our server were so friendly, as soon as we sat down they served our salad with a variety of dressings. The restaurant was decorated in a lovely fall atmosphere, it was so pretty. Next time we are in SA we will be back.

Flavor: B Service: A Tea: B Solo dining: A I loved the salad being served as soon as I sat down. And the delicious ranch dressing. The country fried steak was good - seasoned, breading that stuck to it, and not greasy. I'm not sure if it was homemade but it was good nonetheless. The upcharge for the "loaded" baked potato is a rip-off for a tiny cup of cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits. And if you don't get it "loaded" then I guess you just get butter. Since when is that the standard? The tea had a funny taste to me. I almost always get a tea to-go but not here. It's a unique place and I'm glad I went but it's not somewhere I'm itching to get back to.
A Trip Back in Time: The Little Red Barn Returning to the Little Red Barn after so many years felt like stepping back in time. The rustic charm and familiar atmosphere brought back a wave of childhood memories. While the restaurant still holds its nostalgic appeal, some changes have taken place. The chicken fried steak with chicken gravy and french fries was as comforting as ever. The generous portion and classic preparation hit the spot. However, I was disappointed to find that the beloved salad dressings and crackers are no longer self-serve. Despite this minor inconvenience, the Little Red Barn remains a cherished San Antonio institution. It's a place where families can gather for a hearty meal and create new memories.
We ate here for Father's Day, four in our party. We ordered Steak and Shrimp (2), Shishkabob with a side of Shrimp*, and Ribeye. I loved my meal and my husband enjoyed his ribeye although he did comment on how thin it was. Our guests' ordered their steaks done at medium temperature and they were oozing red, so more like medium rare. They boxed it up to re-cook at home. The seasonings on the steaks was very complimentary. The butterfly shrimp were your basic breaded shrimp, the kind you can buy in a large box at Sam's Club. I expected more. Everyone agreed the baked potatoes were delicious, as were the sides of green beans we all ordered. Beware though...you pay extra for each topping on the "loaded" potato. We ended our meal with one serving of apple pie ala mode and that was delicious. *Make yourself a mental note, if you order a side of shrimp, be prepared to pay upwards of $12 for four shrimp. I never would have ordered it if the price was posted anywhere within viewing range (not on menu board or wall board). You're better off buying the shrimp meal for a few dollars more and feasting on leftovers at home. Our server was friendly and efficient. He seemed to navigate his many tables well. At the end of the day, our meal for four people, including drinks, one dessert, and the overly-priced shrimp mentioned above was $157. I'm still debating whether it was worth it.
Went to LRB for Farher’s Day and wasn’t to bad. The service was good and food was very good. It was a bit busy but the lady at the front door did a great job with the seating. Steaks were cooked to specifications and the salad looked fresh. Just needed a bit more seasoning for taste though on the steak.
Nice place but expected a "Steak House" to fire grill steaks not pan/griddle fry them. I felt the price exceeded the quality. The staff was very friendly and polite.
Food was ok. Ordered fried fish, grilled chicken and a medium 10 Oz sirloin. The sirloin was cut in two pieces, the 1st piece was cooked medium rare, the 2nd was cooked medium well, so I guess it averages out? There was a large group on the other side of the restaurant so waiting for our refills and check took a very long time as our waitress was called away to deliver food to them which I understand. Please stop calculating tip options after tax. Tax isnt something i ordered that the staff has to prep, cook and bring to me. I shouldn't have to tip on tax.
It’s a nice old town style restaurant. It is red all over, thus the name. The service was prompt, and staff very friendly. We ordered a steak 🥩 and it didn’t take long, however, it could have been warmer. The texture and flavors were on point, but It seemed to get cold half way and that took away part of the enjoyment of the meal. We were surprised that although the menu states a stake is served with a side dish , they charged extra for it. This fact gives a disappointing effect before leaving. It’s not the amount, it the surprise.
My chicken fried steak was really good. My husband and daughter in-laws food needed to be cooked more. Her chicken was raw. We had 4 children which 2 of them were 3 and a 1 year. $31 gratuity was a little much. The 7 year old wanted shrimp but $15 for 4 shrimp is ridiculous.
The salad, salad dressing, fresh rolls, butter, green beans, and perfectly cooked sirloin were all very good. The dessert was fair, but not great. [See photos] The enormous free parking lot with security was a bonus due to the location, which is somewhat difficult to reach from the adjacent Interstate highway. There are cattle brands with names and locations painted on the red walls of the large country style dining room. Wait staff wear Texas style costumes and are polite.
It was our first time there and had heard many stories about it. The menu is fair. The presentation of the food was decently presentable, with an exception that my wife’s steak had to be remade 2 times and still wasn’t correct, over all experience was present. The waitresses were very much attentive, and engaging, and definitely gave the restaurant life! I would return again and recommend good atmosphere especially for date night.

As the name suggests, this is really like eating in a barn. There are a bunch of rows of about six foot tables, layed parallel up and diwn two columns. It's kind of like a high school dining seating (with wood tables) inside a barn. With so much seating my wife and I were able to be seated right away. My wife ordered the six oz sirloin and shrimp and I got the 8oz rib eye. We both got salads, rolls, mashed potatoes, and Apple Pie A La Mode. The salads were really basic lettuce and the rolls simple and sweet. By the time the steak came out I was worried it'd be pedestrian as well. Thankfully the steaks were excellent and expertly cooked. Unfortunately, we were let down one last time when are apple pie came without ice cream. The pie was nice and warm but it wasnt the same without the counterbalance of sweet vanilla. Overall, good place for steak...verdict is out on everything else.
Steak was cold... I know rare steak should have cold red center, but the whole thing was cold. Fish tasted like it was from a frozen bag. Sweet potato fries were rubbery, like they had either been microwaved, or sat under a heat lamp to long. Staff was friendly, but the place over all did not live up to the hype.
The prices are ridiculously expensive for the quality of the food, my cut was horrible, my salad mmmmm wish it was bigger, it had just a few pieces of lettuce in it, had brown lettuce at that. One roll was what I received when it would come with your table. This place is a San Antonio staple and the quality of near today wasn’t great …especially with the prices being raised, Texas Roadhouse for a better cut meat with a more affordable QUALITY ribeye. Hopeful for a better experience next time time cause I will be back for salad lol that ranch is fire
This place is in decline unfortunately. Last night at dinner several plates came out cold . The waitress was under trained and forgot several things including the rolls . The bar was out of several brands of beer . No more crackers with the salad, yes I understand people steal them so just give three packs with each salad.
Not as good as it used to be. I had the fried fish and shrimp. The fish was a very small piece and slightly overcooked. I always loved this dish and their fresh salad dressing. Either the dressing was watered down or the salad was so wet it watered down the dressing. The brownies were delicious but definitely not worthy of the price. I'm also surprised that the waitresses are still wearing the short, shorts Western getup. Very outdated for our times. Hopefully the staff is being paid a living wage.
This place is not the same anymore. One Steak was cold and another was not cooked as asked. Fish tasted like it came from a box. Sprite was carbonated water. Staff was great, but the food is not.
The atmosphere is awesome !!! Huge place to host parties and birthdays for every occasions. The food could be better. I took my parents and my daughter for our last lunch together before they leave for Seattle. They both got the steak and fries with loaded potatoes! My daughter got the chicken fingers with sweet potatoes and I got the fish and shrimp with sweet potato fries ! Let’s just say ? I’ve had better lol Besides the food. Overall, we enjoyed our time together!
For a bit of nostalgia with your dinner this is a great place. It’s not the best steakhouse around but it does the job. Service was quick and friendly. Food was as expected. A little like cafeteria food, but in a good way. Dinner plus appetizer for 2 was almost $70. Not sure if it was worth the price.
We heard this place was the best for steaks. Well it’s cooked on a flat iron and asked for med rare and it came out rare. Not sure what they use to cook it but I had indigestion all evening. Server was ok but not attentive. We asked for real butter and she said the office was closed and could not get real butter. Guess the butter is so expensive it’s under lock and key. We will not return.
Update: I visited this restaurant a couple of years later, and I can honestly say that the food and service haven't changed. They did make a few renovations and painted the walls. I still can't believe this place gets so many visitors. It is absolutely packed on a Friday night. This place is old, and the service can be pretty slow when it gets busy. The menu is simple, which is great, but it still takes a while to get your food. For the prices, it would seem the quality of food would be better, but it is what it is, a San Antonio icon that has seen its better days.
The service was nice and I appreciated the salad. The prices however were unreasonable. They also cooked the steaks how we didn’t want them, but we decided to just stick it out. Ranch was yummy and so was the bread. Like I said the service was great but the food was mediocre and overpriced.
I've been going here since my teenage years, And what has come to me to say that LRB isn't what it was. Ever since Covid it hasn't been the same. salads have gotten smaller, they use to have two types of crackers on the table with the rest of the condiments. now its just butter. beef/steak quality has gone down. Last Sunday at a birthday dinner @3pm we ordered the one of their top notch steaks/Tbone and they were out.. And i would rather have a huge Texas size glass than having to refill the tiny glass your given with a pitcher. Stop making changes for the worse bring back my LRB.
In my opinion, this place is a bit overrated and overpriced for what you get. Steaks were seasoned well and tender but overcooked. One with baked potato was supposed to be medium well and one with French fries medium rare. Warning they charge extra for fixing for baked potato. Bread was delicious! Service wasn’t great. When we got there the host just looked at us and walked away - we didn’t realize we were supposed to follow him. Then our server just put the menu sign up and didn’t explain to us what was included or the process - also seemed irritated when we said it was our first time. I do think it was just the particular server we got - we were hearing others do a much better job. Lastly, we were sat near an area where staff fold utensils into napkins. We got to listen to them gossip the entire time. Again overall, not impressed.
Hostess, front cashier, bartender, and server were great. Salad with green goddess dressing was wonderful. The steak wasn't worth the cost through. Mine came out well when I asked for medium, it was corrected immediately. The drink suggested by the server Barnyard....something...was great. Fried shrimp was meh. Baked potato was fine. I could eat here again but it wouldn't be the first thing that came to mind.
This used to be my favorite place for special occasions but now I have to think twice about coming here. I ordered a 10 oz ribeye and it looked so sad. I was expecting a nice thick steak and instead I was served a thin ribeye where even the sirloin steak was thicker. The steak was missing seasoning and the baked potato wasn’t steaming hot. We ordered two piña coladas where the first one was perfect and sweet but the second one was straight liquor.
This place sounded cool and had some history behind it. I figured it would be better than eating with all the tourists on the river. It was big and no wait. They bring you a salad immediately which…

The food is average, place looks unclean but the young lady that took care of us was very pleasant. We ordered the “porter house” & ribeye and honestly for the price of the “porter house” best off going to Texas Roadhouse.
Went for lunch with some coworkers. I had the 8 ounce sirloin. Might as well, I haven't been there in a very long time. I expected a good steak, and I ordered the steak medium rare. It came with a salad, rolls, and a large bake potato. My steak came, and it was dry and not medium rare. It came close to well done. I didn't want to make a fuss about it because we were on a timed schedule, and I didn't want to wait. I ate it, and it was dry and had very little flavor. I expect more for my $30 lunch. I now remember why I hadn't been there in a long time. Great atmosphere, just not great steaks. I should have gone somewhere else.
Ordered the chicken fried steak which was awful that's not the way to make it baked potatoe was Luke warm at best gravy was terrible like cheap package
I ordered the porter house and my wife ordered the 6 oz sirloin. Come to find out the server gave us the wrong order and I didn’t realize until after we left. The couple next to us got our order cause I remember hearing the waiter say” I wrote porter house I didn’t know what happened”. Of course I realized all this the next day and yes I’m very disappointed. I paid for a steak that wasn’t a porter house. The waiter should have caught his mistake. We paid cash and can’t find the receipt other wise I would have gone the next day and talked to the manager. All I have is a picture of the meal , the day and time of the meal. Hopefully management will see this and contact me.
So I'm not sure this place should be called a steak house. Let's call it a Cafe that serves mediocre steak. I paid $25 for a serloin that was flavorless. The salad was just iceberg lettuce and carrots. The baked potato was decent but they can't even spring for bacon. It's bacon bits. That's ok on a salad but for $25 I would have expected real Bacon. The options for sides were limited and I wasn't even sure if I was allowed to get green beans. The menus are giant plaques that they set next to the uncomfortable PicNic tables. The waitresses were in the dumbest outfits I think ive seen outside of a circus. The whole experience of paying $60 for two people to get food that wasn't even McDs quality was rather disappointing. Don't get me started on the decore 🤢
My husband and I wanted to celebrate a pre New Year's Eve dinner and we were so disappointed in the food and service. We ordered Sirloins and the steaks were lukewarm, all fat and nerve, baked potato was lukewarm and tasted old, rolls cold to where butter didn't melt. Not to mention the server dropped off our food and never came back to ask if we needed refills or how our food was. I had to flag someone to get my check. I've been dining here and never experienced such horrible tasting food and such poor service. The worst thing was that it wasn't even busy at all. Parking lot practically empty so I don't understand why such bad service. Take pride in what you serve your customers and train your servers to be more attentive
I'm only here because my experience was so disappointing that I felt I needed to take time to save others from the same. This steak house asks you how you want your steak done but just cooks it however they want. I asked for rare, made a point to clarify not medium rare, then the waitress outs in med rare anyway. I know this because she told me that's what she put in. The steak came back well done. I didn't take a bite and sent it back for a rare. Then I can hear all them yelling in the back "rare" over and over like they don't understand. Then it comes back completely cold and raw in the middle but with a good sear. TLDR: the manager needs to ensure the cooks use a cooking thermometer to get the right temp. Which the waitress claimed they have but very clearly weren't using.
Absolutely terrible. If I could give it zero stars, I would.\nWe went because everyone kept saying this was the place in San Antonio to take our new airman for a great steak. What a joke. $32 for…

over priced and horrible food. Other steak houses are much better. I'm giving it a one star but really want to give it a 0.

My wife and I visited the Little Red Barn yesterday 02/20/22 at approx. 4pm. Our waiting time was about 40 minutes. When they finally called our name, they sat us at a table where the cold air was …
Just 1 word BAD, the waitress act discrimination by the look in her eye and her lip, but when she make bill she automatic add tip even her service is no good, wait for half hour for drink and more than hour for food, food come out too cold and dry…. waste my time and money here and not happy at the service for special night. Never come back here again.
We had a big party...which they were aware of. We got there and they assigned us 2 waitresses but only one was taking orders...but only to one section of our party. We asked for our waitress and she finally appears. Our drinks too forever. Wasn't that impressed with our dinner. I think I would've been ok...with the good being bland...but the service was really bad.
Or server, Celeste was not good. Asked for diet dr pepper but kept delivering regulars. Not refilling drinks regularly. Delivered plates with gravy on the bottom. Not a good experience will not return. Way to expensive for small tough pieces of beef on the chicken fried steak.
Food was COLD. COLD. COLD. The seating is so dumb. Why not just put a regular table and regular chair? It’ll save so much more time than having to grab a separate chair for the elders or kids that cannot sit on a backless bench. The only thing warm or I should say hot and fresh were the biscuits. The rest of our food was COLD. I have never been here and am never going back again. Went to pay our ticket and it was 80$ plus the tip, which I asked the server if she would add the lowest percentage since our ticket was already over our budget, also we were with a party of 15.. my parents ticket came out to 120$ plus they need the tip, and I asked their server to add the lowest percentage since it was already that much. That server was so mad that we were giving her a low tip, but she had 4 other tickets to check out. I mean how much more tips were you wanting, you weren’t superwoman with your service. All and all, this place is the worst when it comes to food, and also when it comes to seating. WILL NEVER BE BACK. I RATHER EAT AT LONGHORN.
One of the most disgusting restaurant experiences I have ever had. We were celebrating a birthday and it was a horrible decision to have our celebration at this restaurant. To start, every single steak ordered at our table was not made correctly. Tough, dry, overcooked steaks. We were able to get them replaced and it was still mediocre at best but better than before. We continued eating. And then a ROACH, a GERMAN COCKROACH crawled over my arm as I was sitting at their table eating. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The manager had no excuse besides that they recently “sprayed” and that this “happens” also that it’s “pretty common in the restaurant business” pitiful! I’ve ate at a lot of restaurants and never have I ever had a roach crawl on me as I sat finishing my meal! I can only imagine the conditions in their kitchen that they cook our meals in. Before leaving the restaurant we noticed several more roaches all throughout the restaurant. They have an infestation!!!!! Reporting to the health department asap!!!! They shouldn’t be in business and allowed to serve food to paying customers in these conditions!!!!!!! Take a look for yourself at the photos attached! SO DISGUSTING AND SO UNSANITARY!!!! WE WILL NEVER BE BACK AND I ADVISE YOU DO THE SAME!
I will never go back to this place!! First of all, there are no condiments on the table. Waited for 15 minutes to get a Sweet and Low for my tea. No crackers for the salad. They charge for bread now. I've been going yo this place for 40 years! No more . And I will make sure I tell others about this place. The service was terrible. And on top of it all, they charged me twice on my card!! I have no room for such bad service. There are plenty of places to eat! Very , very unacceptable!
Where to start…. We came here for my dad’s birthday. The lady brought out the salad. The bowls smelled of mildew, like they used a wet dirty rag to dry them and the smell stayed on it. The smell stayed on your fingers too. We did tell her about it but just said okay thank you. Took about 7 minutes to bring out the drink. She took our order. She tells us sorry they gave me extra table and I didn’t want to take it. Like we were a bother to her. Then she takes our order. My dad ordered the $32 steak and asked for well done (he doesn’t like any pink). As you can see from the picture below it was red. For $32 we would except it to come as we ordered. Well my dad didn’t like it. The grilled chicken didn’t have any flavor at all. Like no seasoning no taste. The kids strips as well. Well even the country fried steak too. Over all no flavor. She didn’t bring us enough bread for everyone. We asked for a refill on my daughter’s drink and she forgot. She also didn’t give my dad back the right change. That took her a while to come back with. They add a tip to your bill already. We spent $112 ($16 of that was tip already added) for that price we could had eaten somewhere else and my kids actually eat. We won’t return back here.
Service was the worse, waitress was bad she did not know how to manage her tables! Had to beg to get tea several times, salad was good and the tea was good but that’s all. Steaks are one of the lowest grade steaks! Non seasoned cold steak, cold baked potato. The shrimp was almost as big as the steak, I thought it was someone’s leftover steak and they threw it on my plate! The table next to us said they should have just gone to roadhouse and I agreed with them. My sister ordered her steak well done and it came medium rare twice! Cooks couldn’t even get that right! Do not waste your money coming here, now I know why I stopped coming here!!!!! Over priced for low grade steaks!!!!!
We booked the party room to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday and it was a total disaster !!!!! That was my first visit and it will definitely be my last. The food was awful, and we waited over an hour for subpar, room temp food. A few of the servers tried to make up for the owner's rude behavior but at that ppint it was too late.
I went to this restaurant tonight with my husband and his family and my father in law we were celebrating is birthday 🎂 and the food was so bad and cold and the backed potato wasn’t even cooked. I will never go back to this place . It’s pretty sad that the little red barn went down hill it used to be really Good . Very disappointed ☹️
I should have listened to the recent reviews. I went in expecting a classic San Antonio experience and left feeling like I’d just survived a hostage situation where the captors were annoyed I was there. The service didn't just "lack" communication; it was non-existent. Our waitress treated us like we were invisible, and getting even the most basic attention required a search party. However, the real "highlight" was the cleanup crew. Apparently, clearing a table at a restaurant is a personal insult to them, as they spent the entire time making blatant, rude faces at us. It’s one thing to have a slow kitchen, but it’s another to deal with a staff that is actively hostile toward paying customers. Save your money and your mood, Go literally anywhere else where the staff doesn't act like your presence is ruining their day. Believe the bad reviews; they are 100% accurate.
