Opinions de Roca & Martillo San Antonio
I met a friend here for one of my birthday lunches and it was a great experience. The waiter was attentive and patient since I had never been here before and had lots of questions. I had the Signature Bolognese and it was very good. The bread was not complimentary but worth every penny. The frozen margarita is small but lethal. The restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance was off the charts. Our waiter could not have been more nice and the food arrived in just the amount of time it was promised. My friend and I both had a really great time hanging out here.
We headed to Roca & Martillo at the Rock at La Cantera. The service, drinks, and food were all fantastic during our visit. The portions were massive and could easily be shared or generate a lot of leftovers.
Wow! Hidden gem! The food was exceptional, and Kasie’s service impressed everyone in our party. She was memorable in all the right ways. Attentive, knowledgeable and incredibly accommodating, even with my dad’s food sensitivities. We got the family style meal for all five of us, and there was easily enough food for a second meal! She boxed up the leftovers from each course beautifully and made fantastic recommendations. Even my parents loved the experience, and they’re hard to impress. This will be one of our new favorite spots where we’ll be bringing our frequent guests from out of town. See you soon!
Roca & Martillo is one of two of jason dady’s establishments here at the rock at La Cantera and it definitely deserves ALL the rave there is to spare. We tried the arancini, pear & goat cheese salad, sweet tea pork tenderloin, brisket lasagna, Gruyère & potato ravioli, & the bruleed brie tart. Every dish was bright and vibrant and full of flavor. I wouldn’t be able to choose a favorite dish, they all paired perfectly. We also tried a few cocktails and even a mocktail (the midnight jewel deserves a huge highlight it’s so refreshing and the basil makes it a perfect way to cleanse the palate between bites. (The bartender here was seasoned btw everything was perfectly balanced🔥) Here and at his snow cone shop next door, Dady serves up a mean menu with lots of versatility while still maintaining a familiar feel that speaks to the soul. It’s got a beautiful downstairs patio, upstairs patio, and a beautiful bar & main dining room. The upstairs patio is perfectly located facing the big screen that airs all the games so it’s perfect for date night, hubby can still squeeze in his sports. Definitely worth visiting in person and even to go. We’ll be back for more soon! Also thanks so much for the great service Cassie!
Been here several times. The food is incredible. It's beautiful and the service has been great. I don't worry about the price because the portions are large enough to share and the flavor is so good I never regret it! Everything is good especially the duck pasta! All the pasta and appetizers are amazing. Drinks are great. Love the parmesan fried chicken! It's not busy and there is tons of parking. Plus you're in the plaza before and after. I absolutely love it. Will keep going as often as I can!
My friends and I try new restaurants monthly. Roca and Martillo was our new one for the month. OMS!! This place was amazing!! From the minute we walked in we were blown away. The atmosphere had such a great vibe. From there, it only got better. We began with drinks and ordered many appetizers and all were amazing. Them the food arrived and holy moly it got even better. The flavors were phenomenal!! Our servers, Izzy and Brian, made the experience even better!! It’s definitely one of my favorite restaurants and we will be back!! We HIGHLY recommend!!!
Arrived for dinner on Saturday evening, without a reservation, but was seated promptly. Parking is a little weird, it's on the sides, but there's a little bit of a walk, but nothing complicated. Friendly service... I think they were trying to be attentive as well, but we felt rushed throughout. For drinks, we had the 'I don't practice Sangria' and 'Lavender Honey Suckle', both were good and on the sweet side. I actually preferred the Lavender one, the lavender flavor was just on the background, not strong at all. Not pictured, but also had the Botanical Bliss, which was more refreshing. For food, we ordered the Burrata Di Bufala and the Wagyu Black Pepper Meatballs, both were great, and we would definitely order again. For mains, ordered the Tuscan Bolognese, which was full of flavor and delicious. Same as appetizers, would order again. My friend ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon Fillet, which was not a fan of. Salmon was good, but the side was just ok and did not care for the glaze.
Roca & Martillo offers more than just a meal—it delivers an experience that blends charm, energy, and comfort in all the best ways. We were greeted at the door by Amador, whose warm smile and friendly welcome immediately made us feel at home. The daily entertainment on the stage outside the restaurant added a lively and fun touch to the atmosphere, perfect for a casual night out or a special gathering. The family-friendly grounds outside are spacious and inviting, with plenty of room to relax or let the kids play while you enjoy your time. The rooftop outdoor seating for Roca & Martillo is absolutely stunning—airy, open, and perfect for soaking in the vibe. The bar downstairs is beautiful and well-stocked, setting the tone for a high-end yet approachable evening. The serving staff were all incredibly friendly, fast-working, and—let’s be honest—very good looking! Their energy and attentiveness added to the overall polished feel of the place. For dinner, I had the salmon, which was slightly undercooked in the center but still had excellent flavor and was otherwise beautifully prepared. I ended my meal with the olive oil cake, which was moist, delicate, and simply divine, paired perfectly with a honey lavender cocktail that was as gorgeous as it was delicious. Roca & Martillo is a place I’ll absolutely return to—whether it’s for the ambiance, the entertainment, or just a relaxing evening with great food and drinks.
Great family lunch today at Roca & Martillo. The friendly service and great atmosphere went very well with our superb food. Our server Ethan made some great appetizer recommendations to get us started , the Gorgonzola and Fig dip was amazing, and also the Burrata. I then ordered the Seared Tuna and my kids the fried chicken and skewers. All portions are very generous, and they are delicious. After we finished, our kids went outside to play a little soccer and basketball in the common areas outside. Perfect place for a family meal or dinner and drinks with friends in the evening.
Wow wow wow! The sweet tea bring pork tenderloin was fabulous. And my server Dagny recommended the Nutella Torte for dessert. Also great! And all gluten free!! Come enjoy a beautiful place and yummy food.

Roc & Martillo’s delicious, Parmagiano fried chicken it is basically fresh moist chicken fried chicken with a parmesan/Alfredo sauce type gravy. Amazing! Steak bites, fresh pull mozzarella.

A wonderful lunch experience thanks to our server Ethan. He went above and beyond to ensure lunch was a great time not only giving basic recommendations but deep explanation to help us understand what we getting.
Etheneal was amazing! Knowledgable, accommodating, and versatile in every way. Food was incredibly unique and delicious. Drinks were crafted to perfection. Date night destination staple now.
Ethaneal made our experience unforgettable. Thank you so much! The seasonal cranberry cider margarita was delicious. Highly recommend.
We came here to get some good food, drinks and watch the spurs game. Elena C was amazing! She was attentive and prompt! Thank you Elena!!
Had the pleasure to stumble apon Roca while visiting The Rock. Wow let me tell you we ordered a meatballs as an appetizer it was delicious 10/10 for our entree we had the duck confit pasta and also the lasagna. They knocked it out of the park. Great service manager was attentive. We will be returning and telling all our friends about our experience.
The food was more than just taste it was a full experience! Very good! The combinations in some of the dishes were surprising but absolutely delicious.
Went with another couple for dinner on a Friday night. Restaurant was quiet. The food was AMAZING! Several gluten free options & waitress was very knowledgeable about gluten free options. The gluten free penne was also AMAZING. There is a great patio upstairs with beautiful views. Would definitely recommend!
Food was DELICIOUS! We ordered 4 appetizers because we couldn’t decide and all of them were amazing! Meatballs, goat cheese dip, risotto, and mozzarella! Atmosphere was 10/10!! Can’t wait to go back!
Went for dinner on a game night Saturday. The Rock was packed with families and people watching the game on the big screen, but the restaurant was about 75% full. Food was absolutely awesome, the Parmesan chicken was the star, Bolognese was delicious, gnocchi was very interesting but good. Star of the meal, Mycah the server. He was absolutely awesome. Knew the menu, knew the recipes, took time to explain and joke around with us. He was absolutely above and beyond. Go for a meal and ask for his section!
Came here for a little celebration after my engagement with my best friend. Sandra our bartender and Elijah the managers for the night made it so special!! Shout out to them, service was so so great and the food was delish . 10/10 would recommend, will be coming back for sure and bringing more people.
elena was a great waistress! super sweet and verg attentive. loveee this restaurant and would definitely come again!
Last minute reservation and are super glad we came. Ethan was our server and was phenomenal. Extremely kind and super helpful with the menu. 10/10 recommend.
Roca & Martillo is located at The Rock at Cantera. Entering in the evening, past the Spur’s Practice Facility, big screen, lighted splash park, and through the beautifully lit public space is lovely. The restaurant is roomy and welcoming. We were seated immediately and had great service. The burrata plate was amazing and generous enough for 4 people. They were out of the wine we ordered, but graciously substituted with a more pricey wine! We ordered smoked brisket lasagna, butternut squash pasta, bolognese, and a very generous salad. The pasta is spot-on with the perfect chew! We were too full for dessert, but have had their goat cheesecake on a previous visit, it is a sweet/savory delight. Please try this spot, our family loves it and wishes it success! I am editing: our latest visit here was made even more enjoyable by the live music under the big screen. A truly peaceful relaxing space on a hot Texas evening!
Came here with the family ordered and sat outside while the kids played. Very family friendly. I recommend the chicken. Two dinner portions feed four easy.
The food and atmosphere were amazing, but the service was even better. Our waitress, Dagny was extremely cordial, responsive and attentive. She was constantly checking on us, and made sure everything was great while dining. If every waitress was like her the world would be a better place. 100% recommend. Will definitely be going back.
My wife kidnapped me during valentines day and this is where she took me, the food, the atmosphere, and the service (shout out to kevin) was absolutely amazing.
Loved our experience this weekend at Roca and Martillo! The ambiance is beautiful without being stuffy. The staff was all very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced for such a nice dining establishment! I tried the goat cheese champagne vinaigrette salad and absolutely loved it! For the mains we got the Bolognese and Rigatoni Pomodoro which were both hot and perfectly tasty. My husband and I both did the bread service for around $3 each and I thought it was great. If you don't like charred bread it may not be for you. For dessert we got the Nutella and chocolate which was so rich and delicious. As a pregnant lady don't forget to ask about the mocktails! They were absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back!
I've been to Roca & Martillo several times, and it's always a great experience. We were served at the bar by Valerie, she is the BEST! She made us amazing drinks from the menu - The Eastern Sunset, Full of Flowers and she even accompanied us with some off the menu requests. We've had the Deviled Eggs, Cesar salad, Wagyu Meatballs, Duck Confit and the Brisket lasagna. The food was great, the Duck is my fav, but the service is always exceptional and makes us return!
First timers at Roca & Martillo and can't wait to come back! 5 stars isn't enough for this incredible gem! The staff at R&M truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for; thank you for your stellar service Olivia! From the expertly crafted cocktails to the mouthwatering dishes, every aspect of this restaurant is a winner. The main dining room is comfortable and well designed with restful bench booths, high-tops, and large bar by the centerpiece artwork "Spaghetti Western". Upstairs hosts a second bar, a few tables and a large rooftop area, perfect for VIP viewing of shows and watch parties. But the real standout is the food; the Bourbon-Honey Texas Bobwhite Quail is a must-order, with tender, flavorful meat that just falls off the bone. The Pan-Roasted Ribeye is cooked nicely, with a rich, buttery flavor that pairs beautifully with the Tuscan spice blend chimichurri. And if you're REALLY hungry, or want a shareable entrée, the Parmigiana Fried Chicken with the most amazing parmigiana gravy, is crispy, juicy, and utterly addictive. Somehow after all that, we did manage to save room for the Nutella Torte, and have no regrets! Overall, Roca & Martillo is a chef-d'oeuvre - don't miss it!
What an amazing dining experience. We had the best food that we’ve ever eaten and the staff were awesome. The white sangria is not on the menu but ask for it. We had the meatballs, shrimp scampi, the tomahawk steak, and duck confit. I wish we had room for dessert but maybe next time!
I ran into the cool Chef Jason Dady at the SA Flavor event, and he told me about his new restaurant, so I went to go check it out & show some support for the new place. It was very busy so we weren’t able to get in for dinner, but we went later on after the rush, and WOW what a cool venue!!! There’s games and a splash pad outside, plenty of space & chairs for families & pets to hangout outside! They had the hacky-sack toss game, outdoor large Connect-4 game, and a giant screen TV outside. There’s an outdoor bar cabana area, as well as a rooftop bar on top of the main restaurant. My friend and I enjoyed a glass of wine & the white chocolate crème brûlée with berries dessert. The menu looked fantastic: I do hope to go back and have a full dinner someday!!!- Cheers from The Street Angel!
Jason Dady has another great place in San Antonio. We had the best service I’ve had in a while with Ethaneal as our waiter. The food was outstanding, a green apple/goat cheese salad, rigatoni and a bolognese dish were excellent. Go try this now!
I had an amazing experience!! I came in a couple weeks ago and was served by Elena, she was so sweet and helpful. I have some diet restrictions, and she helped me find a meal that works with them. I’m planning to come back with my parents because of the service and yummy food!!
What a GREAT feast we had, food was so excellent. Our server, Aiden, was out of this world. His knowledge of the menu was incredible, his wine suggestions as well as help with food choices were a delight. His unwavering attentiveness was muchly appreciated and did not go without notice. Thanks for a great dinner ALL AROUND.
I just came here for drinks, so I can’t speak to the food. The drinks were so good! My favorites were the Full of Flowers and Botanical Bliss cocktails. The bartender was super busy but still attentive. I do wish that the cocktail menu had prices on it though. We got about 8 drinks total and paid around $80 with tip. I love the indoor/outdoor concept, especially since the weather was so nice. I would definitely come back to try the food!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at here during the afternoon, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxing meal. Our server, Micah, truly made the afternoon memorable. From the moment we were seated, Micah was attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Micah’s knowledge of the menu was impressive, and their recommendations were spot on. One aspect that stood out was how respectful and considerate Micah was to our little one. It’s often challenging dining out with young children, but Micah’s patience and friendly demeanor made it an enjoyable experience for all of us. The food was exceptional, with every dish prepared to perfection. From the appetizers the main course. Overall, R & M provided a fantastic dining experience, and Micah’s exceptional service was the cherry on top. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning!
I recently visited Roca & Martillo, and I was thoroughly impressed! The Italian food here is truly exceptional, bursting with authentic flavors that delighted my taste buds. The staff was fantastic, providing excellent service throughout our meal. Special shoutout to the bartenders, Janson and Connor, who were amazing. They crafted balanced drinks that perfectly complemented the food. The Tuscana Bolognese was to die for – a must-try dish! I highly recommend this place. And don't be too surprised if you see a Spurs player dining here; it's an awesome place that attracts a great crowd
If you're debating whether to have brunch out in a patio or dinner with friends in a versatile setting. Lovely place with great people! I went on a Saturday afternoon and had a wonderful experience. This place has raised my expectations on quality service and an attentive staff that go hand in hand with their delicious food. I had their new brunch options and can only remember not being able to speak a word while being enchanted by it. I want to also highlight, Amador and Sandra for their high spirits. Amador took his time and showed me the bar and dining area to ensure my comfort while dropping in when needed. Sandra was a terrific bartender, engaging in great conversations and quality cocktails.
Our first time and we had a great experience. I made a reservation and got there earlier and our complete party wasn’t there yet but they still sat us down right away. Micah provided excellent service and gave great recommendations. The meatballs were so flavorful along with the bread. The brisket lasagna was really good as well. We will definitely be back.
I met some girlfriends here for dinner and we had a wonderful experience. Connor provided great service and recommendations! we will definitely be back for the great food, amazing service, and beautiful ambiance. I accidentally gave a thumbs down when i was paying and i am very sorry Connor- you were great and definitely thumbs up!!!!
such an amazing place for food, drinks and vibes! whether you sit inside or enjoy the big screen outside, our server was always attentive and on it, never had to ask for a refill. the lunch menu is superb, food is delicious with some good lightweight options, drinks are alway tasty. perfect for either a date night or bringing the family as they can us the splash pad outside the restaurant. the manager, Elijah, was welcoming and a great help with our server. 10/10 recommend
Great spot for a yummy lunch today. Servers were helpful and personable. Bread service might have been my favorite part. Had sirloin skewers (like buttah) and dad had smoked Brisket Lasagna. Everything was delicious. This place is cashless!! No signage though, so it was a surprise. Not bad, just a surprise.
We came here for the soft opening as the team is getting all the finishing touches to the restaurant completed. We could not tell, as the experience was leagues ahead of most other dining options in the La Cantera area! Right when I walked in, I was greeted with friendly and happy faces. I was swiftly escorted to my table and my server touched the table within 30 seconds. Brian was our server and made excellent recommendations for the diverse Italian menu that had some incredible options. The drink menu had unique and classic options with a twist, our favorites were the Old Fashion, made with Blood Orange liquor, and the “Roca” Margarita made with fresh Sweet n sour made by the restaurant. Brian let us know towards the end of our dinner we were one of his first tables, we were so lucky because he is a fantastic and seemed very well versed in the menu with excellent descriptions of the food! Chef Dady himself was out on the floor greeting the patrons and took the time to thank us for coming in! We are huge fans of him, and his menu here is an incredible addition to the San Antonio flair! The Gm checked on us multiple times, as well as the restaurant manager, the attention to detail was off the charts! Our favorite apps were the MARSCAPONE CRAB DIP AND THE DEVILED EGGS, both were fresh and delicious! The FRIED CHICKEN stole the show, it was light, crispy, and so packed full of flavor! Sorry the original photo has some bites missing already. The Ahi Tuna was fresh and seasoned to perfection.DO NOT SKIP THE NUTELLA DESSERT it has so many layers I could not stop eating it! I hope this shows all the restaurateurs of the world that San Antonio is ready and starving for updates to our culinary scene! I could not commend this restaurant and its team more, I will be coming back time and time again!
Roca & Martillo is San Antonio's newest hidden gem, and it's already making waves. I went when it had only been open for just two weeks, this northwest side restaurant is performing like a well-oiled machine. The menu is a delightful surprise: 1. Deviled eggs that will have you craving more. 2. Cazuelas: A revelation. The spicy pepperoni dip is essentially Italy's best pizza, minus the crust. It's addictively good. 3. Pork tenderloin skewers: Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly sized. This might become your new go-to lunch. 4. Nutella torte: Think deconstructed Snickers bar, but elevated. You'll wish you'd ordered two. The staff deserve a special mention - quick, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely charming. My only concern? Once word gets out, securing a table might become a challenge. Roca & Martillo isn't just a meal; it's an experience that's worth the potential wait.
This was our first time going to Roca and Martillo. We loved the atmosphere! The service was fantastic but we were even more impressed by our food. Our cocktails were great and they didn’t skimp on the alcohol! We started with the devil eggs as appetizers and they were delicious. Order at our table were the Filet Mignon, pork tenderloin and pasta bolognese. The filet was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The tenderloin was so tender and flavorful and the bolognese melted in our mouth. The Nutella dessert was amazing! We will definitely be coming back!
Several weeks ago, I made reservations to try @rocamartillo for dinner. It’s right next to where the Spurs now practice. It’s one of the newest restaurants that Jason Dady opened with exquisite indoor and outdoor seating. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had the Margarita on The Roca, and I had The Healer on happy hour. Happy hour ends at 6pm. We tried the Bread Service and Deviled Eggs, which were both fantastic. Hubby and I shared the Mixed Field Greens. Dad had the Roasted Cauliflower Bisque. Dad liked his Smoked Brisket Lasagna. I had the Duck Confit, which was a pasta dish with duck. It was not what I expected but it was good. Hubby had the Parmigiano Fried Chicken. Krystal was attentive and we had a great experience.
Fantastic service. Delicious food. Overall exceptional experiences. We showed up during an ice/cold storm with reservations made days before. We were the only table in the restaurant, but they stayed open and served us with grace and class. Our server, Sandra, was attentive, but not smothering, and very friendly. The food and drinks were exceptional. We were just visiting San Antonio…but we’ll definitely visit this restaurant when we’re back in town:
We tried a variety of dishes and overall had a really enjoyable experience. We started with the porcini-crusted onion rings served with balsamic cipollini jam and Calabrese aioli. The flavor was great, but they were a bit on the greasy side for my liking. For brunch, I ordered the tiramisu pancakes and WOW …..absolutely AMAZING. Fluffy, rich, and perfectly sweet with that classic tiramisu flavor. We had the Tuscan campanelle alla bolognese. It was comforting, well-seasoned, and absolutely delicious. We also tried the lunch plate with chicken skewers, asparagus, and potatoes. Everything tasted fresh, cooked perfectly, and well-balanced. It is definitely a lighter option that doesn’t sacrifice flavor. Overall, great food with solid variety. Highly recommend the tiramisu pancakes and bolognese!
Made reservations without realizing the winter weather would affect things — Roca and Martillo still called to confirm and made us feel so welcomed. They encouraged us to take our time and enjoy, even though most other reservations had canceled. Amazing drinks, delicious food, and outstanding service. We were seriously impressed. 10/10 — will definitely be back!

Update: We came here for light the lamp blood cancer walk event. I love it here esp when it's not scorching hot. We had margarita, pizza and goat cheese with naan. Delish! We shared it with other participants and so yummy! I forgot to ask for military discount. We beat the line and I'm glad we came early. We were able to get table and outdoor couch. The only thing we were told the umbrellas don't work which was weird but the sun came down after 1.5 hours the program started. Loved the food and finished the drink. —————————————— (11 mos ago) Came here for an event held at The Rock and didn’t order food just drinks. So worth to be at the top with the view with this excellent weather! There was a pet dog so assuming they’re welcome bar downstairs and upstairs so it’s very convenient! Recommended!!!
Some of the reviews were right, the outside speakers are so loud. The restaurant was nice but I kept having to chase down the waitress for stuff, the food was amazing, we ordered the fried chicken and the brisket lasagna with a salad, everything was so good! The menu is limited though but overall good experience.

The restaurant was nice but I kept having to chase down the waitress for stuff, the food was amazing, we ordered the fried chicken and the brisket lasagna with a salad, everything was so good! The menu is limited though but overall good experience.
We recently dined at Roca & Martillo, and it was fantastic! The decor created a warm and inviting atmosphere. We started with delicious appetizers that set the tone for the entrées. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection, and the rigatoni dish was equally impressive. Our server, Ethan, truly enhanced our experience with his extensive knowledge and attentiveness. He answered all our questions with enthusiasm, making us feel valued. Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience!
A little loud when the dinner crowd came in. The food was excellent. Our server was attentive and very nice. The was a glitch in the software for ordering and biking so be sure to check your bill. I would definitely go again
We finally decided to go check out the rock at la cantera and roca & martillo and i really only have positive things to say. We came here for brunch (for a birthday), and while I was initially disappointed that they didn't have a brunch menu the Bourbon-Honey Texas Bobwhite Quail was really good. I also got The Healer to drink and the mozzaraella and bread which was also really good! Shout out to Derrick (hope I'm spelling his name right) for his awesome service, in fact everyone was really nice. Overall I'd really reccomend this place. I only give 4 stars because the lack of a brunch menu. They also brought out a cheese cake that was probably the best cheesecake ive ever had. I only have good things to say. And after brunch we went and played games outside. Go check this place out before this area explodes in popularity!!
I enjoyed the Brisket lasagna and cauliflower bisque. They both are phenomenal and fairly priced for the portion. The goat cheese appetizer was very small, more onion than cheese or mushroom, and overpriced. The white chocolate cheesecake was delicious, a beautiful presentation, and one of the best I ever had. Overall the restaurant is amazing and service good.
Shelby was my server last night and she did a great job despite an extremely slow bar (at first) and multiple sold out entrees. The food was good, perfectly cooked but you'll spend $28 on an entree and leave hungry. The atmosphere is really nice and I would come to hang outside or do a happy hour here but not dinner again.

It was an overall OK experience on our first time dining here. It was pretty late so it wasn't crowded at all, they were kinda short on staff but they were all very welcoming. Our waiter wasn't too talkative but we didn't really might knowing it was basically the end of the day already. The ambiance was one of the things that invited me to try this place, it is really nice and comfy so I give that a 5/5! Sadly the food left me a bit disappointed, as I found it too plain. I had the Brisket Lasagna and it tasted like 85% marinara sauce, 10% cheese and 5% pasta. I also tried the Rigatoni pomodoro, that was a bit better than the Lasagna, but still too plain. Very underwhelming as a whole. But the dessert was delicious, certainly worth my one and probably last visit. Nothing wrong with the place, but for the prices I'd rather dine somewhere I enjoy more. Thanks for the attention and Happy Holidays to you all!!
Attempting to blend incompatible vibes made for an unsatisfying experience. Meh+ 🫤 Our server was good. And the staff was quite friendly. They matched the “fine dining” aesthetic and expectation created by the environment inside the restaurant. But the food was quite underwhelming. And not in the usual way of poor quality or preparation. It just felt like it didn’t quite go together well. The arancini was quite good. But the other items that we got (Raviolo special, Parmesan chicken, caramelized onion & goat cheese pizza, butter noodles) just didn’t work in execution. It kinda felt like recipes were put together by AI; in theory it sounded pretty good but didn’t blend particularly well. And tasted just OK. Fundamentally, the concept didn’t work for us. Trying to combine “sophisticated”, upscale dining inside with a festival/party atmosphere outside made for a somewhat disappointing experience. Like, if you’re going to be a serious “napkin in the lap” restaurant, the napkins shouldn’t be cheap paper. If you’re going to charge $3.50/person for bread service, the bread should be either be great… not just OK or abundant. Maybe it’s just me, but it felt odd to create a somewhat elevated dining feel but have my son ask to go play basketball out back. The night we were there, the UT-A&M game was playing (loudly) on the giant screen which undermined any sense of fine dining… even inside the restaurant. It was just an overall odd and uneven experience, at least partially because of the expectation created by the aesthetic and the menu. Overall, the identity was my issue. It didn’t quite pull off what it was going for and left us a little confused and dissatisfied.

The food and service were great, but the acoustics inside are terrible. 2 large table parties that evening, with kids. And the noise level was over the top. We were with friends and we had to shout to hear each other. Cement floors and open industrial ceiling are the cause. We will not go back. When out with friends we enjoy having a conversation where we do not lose our voices talking so loud. It only adds to the level of noise. Sitting out on the patio, might be a better solution, to enjoy their food.
Food was amazing I had the brisket lasagna as well as the deviled eggs and the cheesecake and everything was super original and good my only issue was that I had brought cash with me intending to pay and hadn’t seen any signage that said they didn’t accept cash but when I went to pay I wasn’t able to and since there is no service in the restaurant it was quite a embarrassing moment of trying to go outside and transfer funds… anyways moral of the story is just I wish there had been a sign about them not accepting cash
Ordered steak bites because I don’t eat much. Meat was tough , prefer less but tender. Menu said chimichurri which I never got
Food was underwhelming. The duck wings were good and had an apple risotto that was tasty. Had the brisket lasagna which did not have much meat in it. Lasagna was too sweet, the san marzano tomatoes overpowered the dish and the sweetness cut too much of the flavor from the brisket. Overall for the price the portion of meat was too little for the price.
Me and my husband got the Valentine’s prix fixe menu, while some of it was good overall we weren’t too impressed. Service was great, but the food was a bit lackluster. Perhaps it’s just because it was a busy night, but for a $300+ dinner we wanted a bit better quality food.
Okay, when "fancy" meets cheap experience, this place is the result. First of all, you have to pay for bread, $3 ea for a 6x3 hard burnt rectangle, no dipping oil, nothing. Service is even worse, long wait, servers literally disappear. Food, well they think they can call this gnocchi. Incredibly disappointing, should be advertised as a bar with snacks, because there's nothing Italian here.
New business has some kinks to work out. They didn't bring in enough staff to support the crowd on draft night. The bread, creamy crab dip, and onion rings were really good. However, the brisket lasagna missed the mark. Over half had a small amount of brisket ( which had no smoke flavor), and the other half had no meat at all. Sent it back and will update based on the quality of the replacement.
This restaurant, like many other Italian eateries in town, is a complete "ripoff". What sets this place apart, however, is that they don't even provide the complimentary bread that other restaurants do. The prices are completely disproportionate to what they're serving, which is essentially just pasta in various shapes. You can imagine how much they charge for the protein. This seems to be a widespread problem with Italian restaurants in general. When you actually get into the lasagna and take away the "decoration" of tomato sauce and a single spoonful of ground meat on top, what's left is nothing more than layers of pasta that, at most, should cost no more than five dollars. Despite my complaints; the waiter was exceptionally kind.
Seeing this restaurant on Eater San Antonio’s top new restaurants in San Antonio made it a no-brainer that we had to go try Roca & Martillo. Made reservations as it was a Friday night and was pleased to find out that the restaurant was not very busy when we arrived. Parking was a bit difficult as there was a special event going on at The Park and most of the parking was reserved for VIP tickets. After ordering our drinks, one of the beverages that was ordered a nonalcoholic beer was delivered and unbeknownst to us until trying it. It was actually a regular beer. This could have been a very bad mistake as one member of our party is allergic to alcohol. The server blamed the bartender and said that the bartender had not checked however, they were all out of the non-alcoholic beer. No other options were provided, and water was substituted. Starters consisting of the pulled mozzarella, cauliflower bisque, and field green salad were chosen for the beginning of the meal. These appetizers were all flavorful and good with the exception of the pulled mozzarella. That was a little bit dry and rubbery, however, it was still very flavorful. The meal continued to go downhill when the entrées were brought. Two people had the brisket lasagna unfortunately the lasagna was ice cold in the center and was smothered with so much sauce the actual lasagne was hard to find. The brisket inside, rather than being shredded or pulled brisket, appeared to be ground beef like pieces of brisket if you could call it that. After asking them to heat up the lasagna so it was warm it took more than 30 minutes to get the food back. By that time all of the other meals the party was eating or either finished or cold from waiting. The Gnocchi Roulade, if you could even call it, gnocchi was more like two slices of potato that had been mashed and fried flavorless and disgusting. The bucatini was OK, however even that was lacking in the flavor department as the brown butter sauce was not very browned in flavor. Overall, the experience was lackluster, definitely not what I would consider food from a top quality chef. It appears Jason Dady is more interested in being a clipboard chef than putting out a quality product, unfortunately. I would not recommend this restaurant to others unless there are significant changes made. After expressing our discontent to the server, nothing was done other than she informed me. She did not charge me for the beer. That was the wrong product anyway. A major disappointment and not sure why it is even on the Eater’s list of top new restaurants.

I don't know that I've had much success with JD's concepts and Roca & Martillo didn't change that. I think the jam may be spread a bit too thin with his ventures because none of them seem to hit the marks they should easily hit. Located directly in front of the new Spurs training facility, the space is well-appointed with both indoor and patio seating. While there is a side parking lot, I can imagine it gets filled pretty quickly if there are events going on at the facility proper. While we were there a band was doing a soundcheck and there's NO way you can enjoy your meal while a band is playing. The bass reverberated through the dining room as if you had front row seats. The furnishings are beautiful though the seats at the tables in the main dining room scrape loudly when pulled out. So much so, the host that sat us apologized before he pulled one out for me. I wasn't a fan of the cocktail menu and its lack of posted prices. Something about it makes me think they're trying to scam you with unlisted prices. I enjoyed the refreshing Eastern Sunset cucumber and gin cocktail, though the promised saffron syrup was undetectable. My husband's Four Roses old-fashioned was sufficient for happy hour. Nothing about the meal was memorable, which is sad to admit. The best bites we had were the Tuscan risotto arancini and HALF of the porcini-crusted onion rings. The cippolini jam the onion rings were served with would've been more appetizing had it been served at room temperature or warmer. As served, you had to use a fork or, heaven forbid, scoop the jam up with the onion rings pinched between firm fingers to get a bite with the two together. The seared ahi tuna mains that we ordered felt disjointed. The mandarin segments felt played out but the ahi was decent, but the "sear" was non-existent. The dill gremolata promised was absent and the citrus vinaigrette tasted as though the canned mandarin orange syrup was the "acidic" base. It was cloyingly sweet and artificial-tasting. The inconsistency of the veggies' cuts is a basic skill in culinary school, which I'm assuming wasn't pushed as important in the R&M training sessions. As someone who's faced down my fair share of public health inspectors in kitchens, a massive pet peeve of mine is chipped stoneware. The cup of vinaigrette I was given was pocked with chips to the point I skipped using it. This spot is definitely a one and done for us. Instead of quickly standing up concept after concept, I think Jason Dady needs to go back to the basics and spend more time impressing upon his GMs and staff the importance of attention-to-detail, consistency, and flavor profiles.
Went during restaurant week, 3 course meal took 3 hours to serve. Restaurant had less than 10 tables sat at any point. Filet mignon upcharge not worth it. Fried chicken was good but not worth the price other than it'll feed 2-3 people if shared. Our server was often lost or forgot requested items and no manager check in. 2nd chance and same experience. Good location. Good atmosphere. Bad service. Expensive basic food options.
It was ok . Nothing to write home about . There is better Italian food all over San Antonio . Basically , it did not live up to the hype .
Food was not bad but not worth the high price. During restaurant week, not busy at all and our service was delayed several times. Filet mignon definitely not worth the upcharge. Took 3 hours for us to get to 3rd course/dessert. Our desserts were served to other tables more than once and our server was lost or forgot items requested consistently. No manager check in. $75-100/ person.
So we went here for my wife and her twin sisters' 50th birthday celebration. The food was Olive Garden-type fair, honestly, for the prices, I would just go to Olive Garden instead. First of all, the bread service we learned about was limited to one stick of bread per charge, unlike Olive Garden, where you can have as many as you want. Additionally, we informed our waiter and another person assisting him that only 9 of us were eating, but they still charged us for 13 people. I paid for their mistake that the manager didn't want to fix. Granted, there are only 12 chairs at that table, not sure where the 13th chair came from that they charged us. They also messed up our ticket and overcharged my sister-in-law an extra meal, and charged my wife and me an extra drink. We should have been charged the extra meal, and my sis in law should have been charged the extra drink. It was a night of celebration, so I didn't want to contest that or argue and ruin it in front of them. I did mention this to the person in charge of the waiters, Amador, I think his name is. Our waiter, Daniel, was friendly, but he should have done a better job of keeping track of the split ticket. We did tip him $25 for the evening. At the end of the night, the meals were still charged wrong, even after I went to the guy named Amador to correct them. Still, he didn't, we were charged for 13 people eating the bread service even though there were only 9 of us there and the tickets were not correct and we still had to pay different items for different family members. At the end as we walked out, Amador made it a point to look away as we walked out right next to him, pouting as if we were in the wrong after we had spent over 300 dollars and he was not able to give us the correct ticket, nor able to count how many people were eating the bread service. Oh yeah, bread service means one stick of bread dipped in olive oil per person, not like Olive Garden, where it's all-you-can-eat breadsticks. This wasn't explained to us. Save your money, pick a different Italian restaurant where Amador does not work. Oh yeah, when I told him that the mistake was on them for overcharging us four people on the bread service, he blew up at me like he wanted to fight or something. This was very unprofessional and disturbing, especially since we were only discussing a $10 charge. He took an aggressive stance toward me, which was odd since I don't know what he was trying to accomplish by that. I told him I would be writing a review about our evening, and he said, "You are writing that over the four breadsticks that you ate?" to which I replied, Yes, I told you that there were only 9 of us, and you still sent that out to us. We paid in full for what was charged, and we tipped well; we did what we were supposed to do. Amador didn't.
Veal scallopini was more like veal fried steak missing the cream gravy. Certainly was not a thin slice of quality veal dusted with flour. Generous pile of Caesar salad was soaked with dressing. Brisket lasagna was standard lasagna with brisket crumbled on top. Last trip for us.
This was my first time dining here, and it started off on a rough note. Parking was already a challenge, and we had to walk quite a distance in the rain. Despite having a reservation, when we arrived, the host/server told us, "Give us a minute to get your table ready," even though there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant. I'm not sure why they couldn't have prepared the table in advance. Once seated, we ordered Prosecco, which took about 15 minutes to arrive, which was long considering we were the only other table in the restaurant. We also ordered appetizers, which came out in a reasonable amount of time, though our server was slow and seemed to only check on us intermittently. The bread service is laughable because it is a sub with some garlic butter. Had the server been better versed on the menu she would have let us know that it was one sub and not enough for five people. Instead we ended up cutting it into a little pieces and shared. We placed our lunch orders, and it took about 45 minutes for the food to arrive. When it finally did, my meal was incomplete, so the others in my party ate while I waited for the rest of my order. Overall, the service was very slow despite the restaurant not being busy, and while the food was decent, it wasn't anything special.
Good food, BUT /conclusion at bottom/ You cannot sit outdoors when the weather is nice because the plaza TV is so INCREDIBLY LOUD. Holy CRAP it is loud. Their outdoors seating is right up against the speakers (20ft away) which is meant to broadcast across the entire plaza and the parking lot. I had to get up and walk away at one point because it got so loud. Apparently this is a common complaint but the managers don't care. The food was nice enough, it's hard to say due to the overall experience. Garlic bread was barely warm and too soft. Duck confit was good, I think? I had to pack it up so I could get away from the TV volume. The appetizer quail was good. Water smells like strong tap water. I spent $80 on just me. I would've spent more as I wanted a cocktail and dessert but I couldn't enjoy myself at all. The only positive I can tell you is the bartender. A young black lady who's absolutely awesome and makes the best drinks. CONCLUSION: Great dining experience for deaf people.
I brought my pre-school daughter for brunch. We will not be back. We were the only people in the restaurant, and the service was incredibly SLOW. They don’t have brunch options for kids, so I asked for a single pancake with whipped cream. They charged me $16 for it, lol. They also charged me $2 for butter. I did not enjoy the breakfast sandwich. It was fine, but nothing spectacular by any stretch. Also, we had to order milk and orange juice, because the water tasted like dirty dish water. I’m a big fan of the sister restaurant, Tre Trattoria, so we wanted to try this one. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience all around.
My wife and I attended their Valentine’s Day dinner event, and while the food was a solid 8/10, the experience was overshadowed by poor service. We waited over 15 minutes just to be acknowledged after being seated, and our first course didn't arrive for an hour. In total, dinner lasted over 2 hours and 15 minutes due to extreme gaps between courses. It seemed like the entire section was struggling with the same timing issues. I’m not sure what their standard service is like, but I would recommend avoiding this venue for special events.

We wouldn't recommend it, the pulled mozzarella was rubbery and tasteless, the bread way over burned, the so named cazuelas of shrimp scampi is a tiny cast-iron mini pan ( I'm talking the size of you palm) with 4, yes 4 small shrimps (not even medium) in olive oil with olives, capers, garlics and spices; the flavor is good but the size of the serving is Ridiculous... maybe would fit better in the list of appetizers ( for just one person), this restaurant is expensive and they don't have even refills on the sweet tea, we paid $37 on 2 Margaritas and 1 lemonade in the outside bar while we wait for a table.
I’m so disappointed! Had been looking forward to a lunch here for weeks. Arrived at 1ish and it was almost empty but was impressed by the decor. Our wait person was really attentive and did a nice job (sorry I didn’t get her name). I wanted to try several of the dishes that you don’t see on many menus. The arancini was over-fried and not good. The deviled eggs were not deviled & the tomato jam didn’t help. The Cauliflower Bisque was ok. Hubby had Bolognese and ate about a third of it (he never leaves food on a plate). I just went with the Cobb Salad and it wasn’t good either! I don’t believe I’ve ever left a restaurant hungry but I did today.
They do not accommodate large parties and Jason the manager must have been having a bad day. It was our first time and we were celebrating our nieces birthday. The inside restraunt was empty and they sat us outside in the heat. We started with 2 servers and then ended up with just Daniel. The female server never put in my entree order or my nieces onion ring order, after Jason had made sure to tell us that you can't bring food from the food truck into there restraunt. Mind you we had diabetic hungry elderly and children with us, so hence they ordered food from food truck. Daniel the server was decent but you can just tell they had an issue with us. Overall food was very good but customer service, horrible. So sad cause the kids enjoyed the splash pad, but we will not be back to this restraunt.
Absolutely bizarre experience. Walked in at 2pm to a mostly empty restaurant excited to try out a new spot, only to be greeted by the host saying it was reservations only until 3pm. No effort to check for a spot and no initiative to just seat a party of 2. Great way to lose customers before even having a chance. Why even say you are open if you don't accept walk ins?
Stay away! 2nd worst dining experience of my life! Things started out rough when they sent a piece of beef out in a disposable plastic box with a plastic fork and....a metal steak knife...umm, wut? Note that the only option at the walk up bar window is to-go, even if you let them know you're sitting on the patio. After my plastic fork broke as anticipated, I got another myself after waiting a good 10 mins on someone to return to the bar window (no servers outside working the patio even on a packed night at The Rock, by the way). I told them I was dining outside on the patio but nevertheless, no wait staff and plastic flatware. They also seasoned my steak with ginger. Yup, ginger. This is a very distinct and easily distinguishable spice - IYKYK. While my dish was cooked well, it was seasoned very wrong. I let the bartender know about it to get a new meal prepared with just salt and black pepper. I also overheard wait staff saying that they saw ginger added to this dish in the kitchen when they were in the back and that they wondered about it. When I asked politely for a new dish, I was told a manager would be out to talk with me (I didn't ask for this mind you, I just wanted a ginger-free steak). That's when the cherry on top arrived - Jason. This manager deliberately went out of his way to let me know there was no ginger on the premises and assured me that wasn't the case. I encouraged him to try a bite off the uneaten portion so he could verify that it was indeed ginger but he declined. Things escalated pretty quickly when he told me that he controlled every variable in their kitchen and that saying that ginger existed in their restaurant when it did not was a lie. I asked if he knew that the wait staff there said they saw ginger being applied to the beef and he said no. When I pointed out that he didn't control a very major variable of his wait staff talking about ingredients in my dish that he claims didn't exist in the restaurant, he took it upon himself to call me a liar. That's when I'd had enough and left. I was issued a partial refund afterwards - gee, thanks. Stay away from this place at all costs. I've heard it described as "fake Italian" and others I've talked with say their food and service has been equally terrible. It stinks that a reputable chef like Jason Dady has a place so poorly run that's attached to his namesake, but I suppose it is what it is. Simply put, don't spend your hard earned money here. There's so many better options, folks.
Very unsatisfactory experience here. The server was slow and could not be bothered to provide even the most basic decent service. Food was a solid MEH. We placed an order of pizza for the kids, she completely forgot to put it in so that never came. The steak bites appetizer was 50% inedible gristle pieces that we had to spit out. My husband ordered the soup and found out 30 minutes later that they didn’t have any more. The server seated us in a very cold shaded area and we asked to move to a table in the sun. She went back and forth, clearly not wanting to be bothered to move us even though the restaurant was basically empty aside from one single other group. I could go on. This was super disappointing and we really wanted to love this place but sadly, we will not be returning. Omg also, they charged me $2 to swap the balsamic dressing on my salad for ranch! Like what on earth. That is just absurd and I have literally never had a restaurant nickel and dime me that badly. I even REMOVED stuff from my salad but yet got charged extra for simply requesting a different dressing. This place sucks!
