So delicious! I had the blackened Salmon which was savory and juicy, it had me eating the left over sauce with bread so flavorful! The bread was good and the cesar salad . And the pasta was good !!! Definitely recommend!!!
New to Alamo Heights, went in on a Friday and it was busy, 30 minute wait , but they asked if I wanted to sit at the bar. Best decision of the night, The owner Margarita greeted us, and got us some wine, they gave us some meal recommendation. The food was amazing, and the staff made you feel like you were eating at home ! Great local dinner, Great food, Great people.
The food is delicious! It is authentic Italian cuisine, imported cheeses, imported olive oil and great tasting pasta sauce and pizza sauce! I’m Italian and grew up eating authentic Italian food homemade by my parents and my nana. Every ingredient tasted special, just like Sorrento’s. It’s that extra spice that kicks you into Italy! It’s the aging of the cheeses that puts you in Piedmont, Italy!
Eccellente. 1 word to describe this awesome Italian restaurant in the middle of AH. The waiter did an outstanding job. It's always a good sign when bread is dropped off immediately with the drink order. We started with the calamari. It was probably one of the best calamari(s) I've ever had in San Antonio, it wasn't chewy at all. Very flavorful and very good. 10/10 I also had the Italian wedding soup. The soup was served just right not too hot but not luke warm either. Loved it. The pizza was incredible. We did the mozzarella and added the pepperoni. The pepperoni was crispy to perfection and the crust crispy. Exactly the way a pizza should be made. 10/10. The chicken piccata was good. I feel like a lot of Italian restaurants can't perfect the lemon butter sauce on the chicken or it lacks capers. This is across most restaurants. It wasn't the best chicken piccata but it wasn't the worst. The meatballs were A+ I enjoyed every thing I ate. This place is great. Must try in the 78209
I stopped by on a Wednesday after work with three of my friends. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, perfect for unwinding midweek. We split two pizzas and two bottles of wine, which ended up being just right for the four of us. Both pizzas were delicious. The wine complemented the meal beautifully, and the service was friendly, attentive, and never rushed. I am definitely going back soon.
A group of us went for lunch. Let's just say we were all chatty prior to the food but once it came we were all very quiet; enjoying every bite of each of our meals. We'd occasionally look up at each other while chewing and nodding. It's a cozy little place with excellent, and I mean Excellent, table service. Go. Eat. Enjoy. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Our friends shared with us that Sorrento’s Pizza & Restaurant has a delicious Spaghetti Carbonara. So my wife & I went & dined in. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, wedding soup & my wife ordered the Stromboli. The food was very delicious. They give you nice portion sizes & it’s reasonable $. The service was good too. We love it.
A legit Italian experience has been hard to come by in the city until we stumbled across Sorrento. The interior is a bit on the smaller side with a nice vibe and cozy setting. We chose to skip the appetizers and went straight for the entrees. The alfredo, lasagna Della casa, carbonara and the alio e olio were our picks. The alfredo was perfectly al dente, with not an overabundance of sauce. There was basil inside the dish, which was unexpected and some would say unauthentic but it actually complimented the dish. The lasagna was well presented and quite tasty, I'm not a huge fan of the dish normally, but I welcome it here. The tomato sauce was the star. Next, was the alio e olio. It was great, once again, perfectly al dente pasta with olive oil, pepper and roasted garlic slices. Lastly, we tried the carbonara. This restaurant uses bacon inside the dish, when it traditionally uses pancetta/guanciale. There is also only parmesan cheese used instead of pecorino cheese. This is another dish that can be very controversial to some, but it is done well here. It was creamy and had a good flavor and the bacon wasn't overbearing. Yes, I would of preferred a different protein other than the bacon, but this is likely the best substitute for the restaurant. Overall, a great experience and the portion sizes are perfect for the price. We didn't even have room for dessert! It's always admirable when locals have some skin in the restaurant game and do it well. If you are a fan of pasta and Italian cuisine, I highly recommend you give them a go. 4.7/5
Place was busy for a Wed, a good sign. Italian places are a hit or miss with pasta but this place is worth checking it out. On the smaller side but nice restaurant. Always go for the fried calamari, good size and flavoring and not gummy. Got the trio of pasta sauce and meatballs. Meatballs the best part. Will walk extra full with the portions that they serve.
Our family had a very nice evening out to this restaurant. Our waiter and host were very nice. Everyone loved their food! The pizza was great and the lasagna was amazing! They start you with bread (no oils) and butter. There is some outdoor seating and the indoor dining has great ambiance (although I thought the poles looked a little more candy cane-like). We had an excellent dining experience and plan to return to try more items on the menu. Great spot.
Four stars because of the first impression of cold bread, packaged butter, and packaged ranch (that's extra) it makes you question your decision on staying to eat. But the actual food is good. I ordered the Veal Saltimbuca and alfrdo, my husband the small meat lovers pizza which we all had and still had leftovers, and my son the kids spaghetti and meatball which was a big portion of pasta. I would recommend this place if you're in the area.
We waited about 15 minutes for a table that was open and we could clearly see was open, that was odd. The food was AMAZING. The marinara is very good, the fried mozzarella was good, the fried ravioli was very good. The Stromboli though, AMAZING!!!!! It was massive and so tasty! I'd definitely go back just for that and share it with someone. The service wasn't great, we had 3 different people helping us, again, odd. But I had fun with my friends and the food was amazing! Oh the bread they give you before the meal, ordinary... and why give us butter in littler plastic packages? They should really give oil and herbs like most Italian restaurants. Very average.
Went for lunch on 6.16.21. Partner had Spaghetti and Meatballs. I had Chicken Piccata. They loved their meal, I thought mine was meh. We'd been here a few times pre covid and the food was pretty good. The pizzas are amazing. Tried something different and I was disappointed. I've had this dish other places and have even made it myself with fantastic results. I guess everyone has their own way of making it. I thought the sauce was runny, thin without a lot of flavor. The chicken was slightly tough. The meatballs were a good size and they liked the sauce. The food came out within a reasonable amount of time not too quick but not slow. Josh was our server and while he wasn't too friendly, wasn't rude either. The owner/manager came over to our table and asked if everything was all right and was very pleasant. They remodeled since the last time I was there and it looks nice. There's definitely an Old School vibe including the music, which I think is sweet. Stop in and grab something to eat if in the area.
Do not order to go, portions are a scam. Prices are very expensive. We paid $50 for a chicken parm and a carbonara pasta. The side pasta that comes with the chicken parm was exactly half a portion of pasta. The carbonara dish was also petite. The food itself was good, nothing out of the ordinary.
They used to make the best lasagna. NOT ANYMORE! One thing layer of dry poorly seasoned ricotta chese, one thick layer of poorly seasoned gray hamburger meat, all drowned with alot of Tomato sauce. I was soooo disappointed ☹️. All the staff had on different sloppy clothes, one even had on black sweatpants! It used to be a lovely restaurant before the daughter took over.
Very dated. Smelled musty. Ate with a group.Lasagna looked good. Cannelloni was not good, pasta was tough, sauce was flavorless and not enough cheese on top. One of our party had fish and it was under cooked. Butter for bread was in sealed containers like a diner. Server seemed rushed even though they were empty.
Went on a Saturday, busy as expected, had to wait 30 minutes for a table. However, upon arrival the girl at the front was looking at us as if we didn't belong. Waiter was nice and kept checking in with us. Bread was somewhat cold. My girlfriend got the wedding soup which was really good. We got a pizza, and I got a fettucini alfredo with chicken. The pizza was overly greasy and the pasta had no flavor. It was basically covered in butter and nothing else. The chicken lacked any kind of seasoning and was also overly buttered. Whether just a bad day, or because of how busy it was, a restaurant should be consistent and serve not only good food but a good first impression. The mood was already falling as we walked in. I will not be coming back.
