This place has the best food in town!! Honestly a way better experience than any of the restaurants on the main street in Julian. The food is gormet style, super tasty, super good, plus they have a HUGE selection of beer and wine! Definitely coming back every time I'm here! Love this place and you'll love it too! 😊
WOW!!! This place is FANTASTIC! I work close by and have been picking up lunch there way too often since they opened. Without exception, every single item on their menu has been exceptional. Their roast turkey dip sandwich - heavenly! Their wedge salad - extremely fresh with a delicious spicy avocado dressing. Even their split pea soup is wonderful, and I've never been a big fan of split pea soup. Everything is so yummy!
Wow, great menu options including Vegan & vegetarian. I had a wagyu beef burger & side of some of the best chile! My wife had a tritip sandwich & onion rings. The view is great, overlooking lake Cuyamaca & many beer choices to choose from. Sorry, not a great picture because I tore into it before I took the pic.
Location, location, location! The Pub at Lake Cuyamaca is a place of beauty. Grab a chair by the railing that faces out towards the lake and take in those awesome views! Eats here are hearty and filling, that perfect balance of homemade flavor and perfected product. We had the breakfast sandwich and a breakfast plate. The aoli in the sandwich was brunch pitch perfect. My scrambled eggs in the plate were light and tasty, and my smashed potatoes with skins were a nice balance. Apple cider and orange juice are on tap, with free refills, mix and match at no extra cost! The juices taste fresh and hold their flavor. A scenic and relaxing spot, with tasty eats to boot. Stop by and enjoy the lake and the food!
Awesome food, awesome view, awesome staff! I came in on a sunny day and was warmly received by the staff. I checked out the souvenir shop and Desiree at the counter was able to give me some good recommendations on the food (The Cuayamac Tri-tip was awesome!) The wait staff was fast and friendly. I'll be back!
This was a surprise! Julian was really crowded so we headed home through the area by Lake Cuyamaca The food was delicious, staff friendly and view of the lake beautiful. We had fish and chips, a yam which and wedge salad, all excellent. A great stop after a day in the desert or mountains!
I think I knew there was a little restaurant here but I didn’t know they were doing elevated bar food with killer lake views. They also have Pliny on tap and available in bottles to go so that alone scores points. Service was a bit lackluster but it was busy when we got there so I can look past that. Excellent fish and chips and the goat cheese salad was also great. Will definitely be coming back.
We happened upon The Pub at Lake Cuyamaca completely by accident, and we are glad we asked about the closed sign to go in because this was hands down some of the loveliest food we've had in San Diego. Their Fish and Chips basket was good portioned, spouse got the Nickel Burger which was divine and gone before I could get a photo, but all in all it was crispy, fresh, flavorful and delightful down to the last onion ring. We went home with an Apple Berry Crisp pie which also was gone by the end of the following day. Stop by, grab the lads and lasses a beer (they have the option to tip the kitchen staff a beer, and it was a necessity after the magnificent meal we had), and enjoy the view from their lovely lakeside property. This is absolutely a mom and pop shop, and while I'm sure they can handle high traffic (they had customers in and out so quickly, even our food came super fast and was womderfully fresh) I suggest you go when its quiet so you can enjoy your wine or beer with the view. Thank you for restoring our faith im the service industry!
We were on our way back to San Diego from a long day in the snow. GOOGLE Maps was showing the establishment as closed, but we noticed lights on so we took a chance and stopped. Turns out the place is normally closed by that hour but so many people were coming down the hill at the same time they decided to stay open. Right off the bat, we loved the atmosphere. The staff were all friendly and seemed to have a camaraderie between them that gave off a friendly, family vibe. The music was great; not so loud we had to yell to talk but loud enough to have my youngest dancing in his seat while we waited for our food. The place was packed, it was after hours, and there was a small wait for food. But several different staff members stopped by to top off drinks, laugh and joke with our (tired, hungry, and grouchy) youngest, and assure us that the food was on its way. Once delivered, 2 different staff stopped by to make sure it was to our liking. The food was good, the staff was attentive, and they managed a packed restaurant with smiles and laughter when they could have just closed their doors for the night. Overall, this was a great experience for our family and a cherry on top of our snow-day sundae.
We were in just before close on a Friday night. Not many folks there, so all went well. Wings and fish and chips were good!
Thumbs up for the Pub. We had a large group - 12 - of hungry eaters. Walked around the lake on a cold gray day. This was the perfect landing spot. Impressed at how the manager worked hard to accommodate us - with a big smile. Lunch was delicious - service was quick. And our very well behaved labradoodle enjoyed dining with her pack. Will come back
We're starting to have a small family tradition of stopping here for my son's birthday. This is our 2nd time here and the food is amazing. We haven't tried everything but the pub burger is delicious. The fries are on another level! Crispy, crunchy, and we'll seasoned! The to-go service is quick and easy. See you next year!
This restaurant was amazing. So friendly and the food was so yummy. We had our golden retriever with us, and they made him a puppy pattie which he loved. We had two different versions of the hamburger and the meat was so good. The fries and onion rings are delicious. We sat outside on the patio with a beautiful view of the lake. We will definitely go back.
I ended up here on a busy Saturday afternoon, and this place was packed — which kind of sets the tone right away. We checked in around 3:10 and were told the wait would be about 20 minutes, but it turned into closer to 35. Honestly, I didn’t mind too much because the view here is the whole reason to come. Once we got seated outside on the patio, overlooking the lake, the energy shifted. It just felt calm and good. Our server was quick with drinks — I ordered an iced caramel coffee, and it came out fast. Sweet, layered, a little over the top in a fun way. I just sat there watching the water and kind of forgot I was hungry. For food, I went with the Southwest Chicken sandwich. Solid choice. The garlic fries hit especially well. Not the best burger/sandwich of my life, but definitely good — one of those meals where everything just works together because of the place you’re in. The only miss: I ordered a scoop of vanilla ice cream and they forgot it, but at least it wasn’t on the bill. Total came to $52.63 for two. So yeah — this is a strong 4 for me. Come for the lake, stay for the slow hour, let the food just be part of the moment. I’d come back — but definitely for the patio seat again.
Rating is just for the burger. It’s fantastic. Seasoned and cooked well. Juicy fresh beef and overall ratios and flavor was spot on, worth a stop!
Terrific food and craft beer. The trout entree was excellent, as was the service and the scenery. Will be back soon. Stopped by again and had the pickle Burger w/ Garlic Fries. It's a winner with chopped pickles in Chipotle sauce and cheddar cheese. The fish & chips are also terrific. The Southwest Chicken Sandwhich with a side order of Onion rings has become a favorite. One of the best San Diego backcountry pubs with an excellent Nickle beer selection and Pliny the Elder. Recommended
Went here for lunch. The servings are really large. Had the jalapeno burger. They have outside dining right along the lake shore. Beautiful views. There was one waitress handling all the tables and the service was spectacular. The burger could have had a little more flavor, but I fixed that with some salt. Other than that, this place has an amazing atmosphere and it very relaxing. Must see location on your way to Julian
Really enjoyed The Pub at Lake Cuyamaca. The menu is nice, & they offer really tasty appetizers; definitely recommend the giant pretzel; It’s enough to share with 2-3 people. The wings are fantastic; great rub, smoked on site, & add the garlic-parmesan coating for the ultimate taste treat. Good assortment of beer, wine, & non-alcoholic beverages. They have a great deck overlooking the lake, but it was a little too chilly/windy for my husband when we arrived to sit out. It did warm up later, so the deck would be my choice. The service was very good: fast & friendly. Prices were fair for what you got. I definitely recommend you give The Pub a try. It’s a short drive from Julian, if you’re up for a night or two, (8-9 miles) on a not too winding road. Really glad we made the visit!
The food was reasonably priced and tasty. The service was good, we were well attended to. We liked the atmosphere and view of the lake. We also, liked the beer selection on tap, the stout was nice and dry and the pale was pleasant. I recommend this place for a meal or a beer. 🍺
Such an amazing meal at such a beautiful location. Beer list is the best for many, many miles. The staff and food was all exceptional, especially for having just opened. I am excited to come back for more. Great job on executing a simple but high quality concept in a location that has longed for some quality for so long.
Even though we had packed a lunch, we couldn’t resist checking out the pub. It definitely got busy so I recommend d going on the shoulder hours of the meal of you don’t want to wait in line. Bar seating, indoor and outdoor seating, with the AC cranking which was a nice reprieve from the heat. There’s a small store for your basics if you forgot something and are camping nearby. Food was delicious. The chicken wings were outstanding with their personal blend of dry rub. The beers were cold and delicious. The service was super friendly. Worth’s the swing by.
In contention for the best burger in California. The PUB has generous portions and does not hold back. Everything fresh. Veggies to meat. All fresh. Cheese dripping from the cheeseburgers. Fried, tots, and onion rings cooked to perfection: crispy and tender. Solid patties of beef. Crisp lettuce. Juicy tomatoes and plenty of sauce. Service is first rate. View is great. You’ll feel like a poet after we eating at this place.
This place is simple amazing! The service by the staff especially our server, Emily, was exceptional! The food quality was incredible and the portion size was very generous. We sat outside on the newly renovated deck that overlooks Lake Cuyamaca. The atmosphere adds so much to the total experience. We will be making this a regular outing of ours. I highly recommend this place!
Nice staff and spacious place. You can get yourself a table so I thought it's a place where there is minimal service but staffs constantly checked in with us made sure everything was okay. Has patio facing the lake. We hiked here from William Heise campground so we definitely enjoyed the food.
Heard that Nickle Brewing was part of this restaurant now, so we had to come by. Didn't disappoint 🍻 Of coarse, great beer on tap... And their Pub burger and garlic parmesan fries were REALLY tasty 😋 Friendly service too (thanks Alison) Updated the outdoor deck overlooking the lake for a lovely view 👍 It's always been a great stop, but now it's even better!

This place was great! Service was great. They were friendly and met our special needs. The Pub burger was cooked perfectly medium and the garlic Parmesan fries were seasoned just right. Next time I'll try them as tater tots. Views of the lake would have been amazing had it not been raining.
Our favorite place to eat before or after a hike (Stonewall Mine is a fun, nearby hike!). We're enjoyed the chili, turkey dip (delicious!), fish sandwich, and the Back Country burger with fries and fried pickles. Service was prompt and friendly. We were treated to a sighting of a bald eagle over the lake! Highly recommend 👌

We come often. Specialty burgers are big and juicy, and the tots and fries on the appetizer menu are amazing. I love the buffalo fries. Their brisket is worth a re-order, had it on the tots i have to try the sandwich next time. The revolving local beer selection is fun, but we always get the o'neils Irish red. If you're not into IPA, it's a nice alternative.
employeeeee work in back with the cooks, going on 2yrs food is good,I enjoy our specials lol different.hits the spot ! The atmosphere is great we stay laughing goofing around but vibe is chill.good to bring ur family & kiddos!
Casual, understated pub atmosphere. Nice view of lake. Unfortunately the deck area was closed. Fish & chips and fish tacos were excellent.
What a great hidden gem, it seems like a locals joint. Outdoor seating was pleasant with a beautiful view. Bloody Mary was like a meal, very picture worthy. The burger was phenomenal and my chili bowl was good. It was very good but a little too tomatoey, but still good if you know what I mean. Service was good, David was very attentive.
I camped at the lake for the weekend and decided to visit the Pub at Lake Cuyamaca for breakfast prior to departing for home. The restaurant is under new management and was recently renovated. The restaurant looks really nice with patio seating over looking the lake. If you’re lucky you will see a Bald Eagle or two. The restaurant opens at 0900 and I arrived around 0905. I checked in and was told there would be a 5-10 minute wait due to the “rush”. The restaurant wasn’t busy and it was obvious they were having a staffing issue. But no big deal. We eventually were sat at a table. The staff was friendly, the view is pretty good and we had a good time. I ordered the Breakfast Burger which was not nearly as good as it looked. I expected a lot of flavor from what I was looking at. Unfortunately ‘bland’ is how I would describe it. For $20.00 I expected a little more. The potatoes were really good. I don’t know if I would return but give it a shot. I certainly didn’t try everything on the menu and it could’ve been an off day for them. Enjoy!

The first time visiting this place, we were blown away. Service was great and the food was delicious. We’ve been back a few times since and it’s been inconsistent at best. On our most recent trip, the biggest change went from being seated and served, to ordering at the counter and finding your own seat. This in itself isn’t an issue, but they charge gratuity on every order, without really doing anything. The next issue was the food. They were serving a limited menu so we ordered two burgers, a blackened chicken sandwich and the PUBLIC chili. We’ve had the chili before and it was delicious. However, the chili was bland and lukewarm. The burgers were a huge disappointment as well. We ordered them medium rare and received them way over well done. How do you have a dry burger that’s greasy at the same time? Not really sure how that happened. Other than the change in seating/everyone staying at the counter, the staff was nice and friendly. The views of lake cuyamaca are pretty great, I only wish they kept the food quality they had.

It was my wife's Birthday the waitress accidentally dropped beverages all over the Birthday girl yes accidents happen but they didn't even offer to discount drinks. Then it took them 20 minutes to bring water to my sister, and lastly the waiter was rude to my autistic niece snapping at her about putting extra plates down on our table. The food was great loved that they allow dogs but service was terrible. I do not recommend eating at the Pub.
HORRIBLE SERVICE. We waited 30+ minutes for our food, only to be told that one of our four meals was not available. No ketchup for a burger place, warm cans of hard cider. Just ridiculous.
Worst experience ever!!! We tried to eat here on a Friday night and looked up their closing time which showed 8 pm. We arrived at 7 20 pm only to be told that they were closing soon and could only accept take out orders. We left disappointed and frustrated. Since we were staying for the whole Memorial Day weekend we decided to give them a second chance, on Sunday night ,and decided to call ahead of time to see what time they were accepting last seatings. We were told over the phone that they were closing at 8 pm but to arrive by 7 to be safe. Taking their advice we arrived at 6 55 pm as advised. It took 15 min before our server showed up to take our order. To speed things up we decided to order our drinks and food at the same time, there were only 2 other tables seated at the entire restaurant. At this time to our surprise, after 15 minutes or so of waiting, our drinks never showed up. We had decided to ask another employee to please check on our drink order as our server had completely disappeared. He was nice enough to show up with our drinks and apologized for the long wait. A few minutes later our food arrived, not to our satisfaction, as the hamburger I had ordered medium rare was actually medium well at best . Still no sign of our original server as she had disappeared completely. The only other visible employee was solely focused on closing up and putting things away for the night. Our original server never came back to the table to check on us, which was extremely disappointing. Overall the food was average at best, overpriced and the service was beyond horrible. I would never recommend this place to anyone ever. Take your money into Julian and save yourselves the aggravation and disappointment.
Will not visit this establishment again. Tried this place for the first time and our server incorrectly charged us and wouldn’t make it right. Unfortunately I had already paid when I caught the error, but when I went back to try and get it corrected the staff disregarded it, told me false information on an up-charge, and ultimately wouldn’t do the right thing and reimburse me for the mistake. I will not return to this place.
Loved the beer chili but it was the worst service, portions, and the rest of the food was a joke. I understand the automatic 20 percent tip added to a group of 6 or more so no complaints on that. We asked for our drinks and nothing was brought together and we never received water. The food had no salt or seasoning (Burgers) the kids meal (hot dog) was terrible. The bun was so hard and gross that I can probably use it as a bat, maybe they left the bag open and the bread got stale. The shareable chili beer fries were so small that even the kids meal was bigger the price was ridiculous high. When we tried to ask for help the guy waiter completely ignored us and helped other tables and even when we went up front we still didn't get any help. We come fishing at the lake so often and never came to eat until this past saturday. Never coming to eat here again no matter how hungry I am. It's a beautiful view to have a drink outside though. Don't order any food please, you'll save yourself a headache.
Just left the restaurant. No one in the restaurant but the bartender and the waitress. We took seats outside, 3 single customers, 2 eating, 1 drinking a beer. The waitress finally showed up several minutes later and after my husband went inside and ask if we needed to order inside?? Okay finally a beer and menus. Nothing again!! She took drink and food orders from two more tables that walked in. We finished our beers and went inside. Told the bartender I think she forgot we were there, she never came back to our table. We says “oh sorry”
Customer service lacking, understaff, workers have a RBF face. they have a sign in the front entrance states to find your own table , they we're rude when we were waiting by a table that customers had just left, attitude! .....20 minutes went by nobody approach us to see if we want it anything to drink, or we will be right with you. BAD bad bad bad. Stay away from this place , food is not even appealing i tried to give a chance since we love to go with my family and try different places even if is a hole in the wall. The only thing beautiful is the lake view. This place is horrible. I was in my best behavior to not cause a scene so we got up and left with my family. Had a better pleasant experience at descanso junction A+++++++
Terrible service. I get if a restaurant is understaffed and if it’s a busy lunch rush. The first acknowledgment we got was being told we couldn’t sit in an area that was “closed off” but there wasn’t a rope or anything blocking it off. So we moved. Then we sat and waited for over 20 mins, no acknowledgment from staff to order. Waited and waited and no one came to take our order. The place was packed and I get if the kitchen is backed up. But good customer service means communication. Say hi “Thank you for waiting, or sorry it’s going to be a long wait. Can I get you some drinks while you wait” ANYTHING! But ignoring us. We were only two people. We saw two people being seated inside 20 minutes after we had been seated waiting to have our order taken and those people got their order taken, had their beers brought and had their food at their table in less than 10 minutes. Lots of other tables were waiting for food or drinks as well. We got up and left. Would not come back. Would not recommend anyone stop here unless you’re okay with giving your money for that kind of service and if you’d like to sit and waste your time. We only tried to come here because the Outpost was closed.
Service was horrible. I deleted my review from 2 years ago where I gave them 5 stars. We came back down e to it USED to be a great place. Service was so horrific. We sat down at bar seating no and there was a rush so we were patient. Our server (who didn’t acknowledge us at all) eventually came to help 18min later. Gave us our drinks and when we asked for a glass we were given a dirty glass. You could see lip stick remains from previous. We walked in and place was about 50% full and there was a 10min wait, why not sure, bus lady just liked to stand around. They had no cashiers at store and had to come to bar to buy ice cream, chips or anything sold at store. Horribly managed establishment. We have come here for years even before the NEW owners came in. I own a business and would have be appalled by the lack of efficiency as well as the horrible customer service. Usually I would not come here ever again but I’m going to continue to come and order minimum items just to bring awareness and monitor their service. If I see a change with staff I will change my review but I stand firm on the 1/zero stars. Any real owner would take this review into consideration and make changes immediately. The chef’s were working hard but the other staff was a complete let down (food was quality). One bad apple to you wait staff can undermine everything else. The young lady running the bar top/register is the problem. I still gave a tip cause I know it’s shared with kitchen but I really wanted to leave no TIP cause of her. Owner/manager plz do a better job!!!!! You have a great thing going here but the service/ cleanliness was horrific!!!!!! I will not let this go and recommend to everyone that you just need to watch this and you will see what I’m saying.
