Stumbled upon this while trying to get to the waterside from the Westin Gaslamp Quarter. The walk is 10-15 minutes but the coffee is worth an hour walk. Love this little place in a seemingly historic building. Take the trolley to Seaport Village stop if you are able too. Worth the cost of a trip. Try the Spanish Latte!

Very cool place , small eclectic coffee shop with interesting choices for breakfast but all of them were good. I went here almost everyday when I was staying at the Hyatt. Try the bagel pesto, very good and unique.

I really enjoy this spot. They have a smaller menu, use cafe moto coffee and on ocassion in the afternoons have a performer. The staff are amazing and will always greet you with a smile and a conversation. I love relaxing here!

Whenever I am down by the marina I make sure I stop by Brickyard and get one of their iced lattes. It is 10 times better than Starbucks, and less expensive. The baristas are always friendly and it usually isnt too busy unless it is early in the morning.

If you don't like me and you're the type of person who likes your coffee strong then this is the place for you. They can make any requests they could do anything with coffee and make it as strong as you like. My thought kind of fact is that the best cup of coffee is the coffee that will make your hair stand up. If it doesn't do that then it ain't strong enough. This unassuming little coffee and tea shop is not as flashy as some of the other places in the area, but it has some phenomenal breakfast food. I really liked the relaxed atmosphere. I recommend both the breakfast burritos and the veggie bake. Other stuff looked great as well, but we didn't try it. The folks working her are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

This place is super cute and cozy! I slipped in really quick before a interview and place immediately caught my eye off the trolley station. Super friendly service with lots of different coffee options and yummy pastries as well. Has a very homey feel to it and makes you feel like home away from home. My partner drinks coffee and says this place was way better than Starbucks. I reccomend this place to anyone in the neighnorhood. This place is also def worth going out of your way to get too, to enjoy some good company and great food.

I loved this place! I was staying at a nearby hotel and wanted something better and more affordable than what the hotel had to offer. I was sort of surprised at how delicious the Signature Bagel and Açaí bowl were. My americano was also fantastic. I’ll be back to this place whenever I visit San Diego! Definitely check it out!

It's a little bit more pricey than I usually shoot for, but the food is top notch! Easily my favorite cafe in the downtown/seaport area. A trip to Brickyard Coffee and Tea is a lovely way to start the morning! The staff was very genuine and friendly, easily putting a smile on my face. The drinks were reasonably priced and delicious. Would recommend to anyone looking for a smile and some good coffee! I will for sure be coming back.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites around the corner for a week and was happy to find such a great local coffee shop nearby. Was only able to visit twice during my stay, but was very happy with the service, smiles and delicious lattes! Great decor and location. I hope to come back again someday! Thanks from Detroit, MI!

After a long walk around downtown, this is a great stop in the morning for a recharge. You can sit outside relaxing in the shade while enjoying a coffee and some breakfast. I tried the oatmeal with fruit, which was absolutely great, though a very large portion size for one person. Wish they had options for a smaller size, but a great choice off their menu.

Small cafe/coffee shop with a large outside patio. Stopped in and had their chilli today for lunch. The best chilli I have had in a long time, the the portion was huge! Price was very affordable too. Their menu is awesome. I highly recommend it. This is right next to the Seaport Village trolley stop.

Cute cafe in the heart of San Diego, just North of the Grand Hyatt and Seaport Village. The menu are a little overpriced for its quality, but that gap helps to keep the seating fairly open, even on weekends.

Instead of heading to Starbucks, I made the spontaneous decision to try out this establishment for a change. I wanted to enjoy a cup of tea while catching up on some reading. I appreciate the arrangement and ambiance of the place, as well as the delightful aroma that permeates the air. Opting for a chai latte, I was thoroughly satisfied with my choice. Although a minor furniture upgrade would enhance the overall experience, I found the environment to be relaxing and perfect for leisurely sipping.

This is by far my favorite cafe in San Diego. Not only is their coffee delicious but their food is good too. It's a cute space and everyone is friendly. Now too be fair, they always mess up one of my orders (bagel and lox with no tomatoes) but they are just so nice about it and remake it quickly enough for it not to bother me.

Found this little gem while walking around downtown San Diego following my Google Maps. Glad I did. I was looking for a unique SD experience and found it. Loved the drink selections (Mexican Mocha was fantastic). I had a great day on the patio in the sun and exactly what I needed. Only drawback is it's located right by the train tracks so was a little noisy. Great place none-the-less.

I asked her for her opinion and she said they were both good and gave a brief description of each which did not go beyond the obvious. I got the house blend. It was served up quickly before the sandwich and for it I took a walk to the counter. The cook brought out the sandwich and asked me how I was doing. In this day and age, that's enough for me to rate you high five. After the meal I needed the restroom. I was pointed to it but I felt like I was bothering this. . . barista. After coming out of the restroom I was ready to get the hell out of there and I wonder if that was the point. Food. I wanted to give this a four but it earned a five. Coffee was fire. Grill cheese was real. The sourdough kept throwing me off but I have to admit that it's fire. That's it for my review but just to vent a little. I'm sick and tired of feeling like this as a customer. It might have been me for all I know but I feel like crap and I think that is just the way some people in some places want black customers to feel.

Pleasant downtown San Diego spot to grab a coffee and a quick snack, especially if you’re headed to Comic-Con or the USS Midway and you’re riding the Metro.

Food is good, and service seems a little slow. I personally found the outside seating a little unkept for my liking. The inside seems much better, but there aren't as many seats.

Found the cappuccino on the bitter side, not deep and rich. Breakfast burrito passable but nothing to write home to mother about. So my rating is "meh". Or as my Chinese friends say, "ma ma ho ho"

Rookie. Asked why they close at 1000 daily and was told, “just dead around here in the afternoon”. Seemed like the employees were just more eager to have us be in and out of their cramped, overly hot space. Coffee tasted burnt, had the hammerhead and tasted weak as well. Place has so much potential, cool space, fun vibes, GREAT location. Completely missing the mark. Would love to see this place be the go-to local spot, but instead the line at Starbucks is long and this place is empty.

I am local and had a friend recommended this place for the oatmeal. We went on the morning of 7/12. It was okay. However, the customer service isnt good enough for me to come back. I was not greeted by a young, disrespectful kid made. He just looked at me blankly until I initiated. Then, he was too distracted to remember everything I said. In addition, I asked for my receipt and he disappeared. So I took a picture of the one I signed (store copy) and in a sarcastic voice asked said, "Oh, so you wanted receipt?" Not a great experience and wont be back. There are plenty of breakfast places in this area with genuine great customer service. I highly dont recommend.

While visiting San Diego, we thought we would give this place a try. Terrible decision! Ordered lattes, breakfast burrito, and breakfast bake (no crust quiche). Lattes were more steamed milk than coffee...worst I've had. Breakfast burrito was warmed up so hot that the tortilla had become brittle. Couldn't touch it for at least 10 minutes! Breakfast bake was just disgusting...runny, coagulated cheese, weird tomato slices on top...not a pleasant dish to start the day. Service was ok...not friendly but not unfriendly...just there. Go to Copa Vida!!! Should have walked the extra blocks instead of the Brickyard.

Good spot to eat, but the business is rarely open during their posted hours. Only worth a pull of the handle if you literally are walking right by it, otherwise don't waste your time.

After waiting 20 minutes for a jalapeño bagel, I went up to counter to inquire and was told the cook couldn't find the order number it belonged to. I was handed a bag (though ordered for here) and when I reached inside to pull out the bagel, it was ice cold. I told the gentleman, and he proceeded to argue with me about saying he made it 5 minutes ago so it couldn't be cold. I told him to see for himself, so he grabbed it out of my hands and tossed it in the trash. At this point another employee stepped in and said she would remake it, which she did, but was wrong flavor. When I pointed this out, she said they were out of the jalapeño bagels, so I could take it or leave it. As you can see from the other reviews, this is not a 5 star establishment.

I have been to the Brickyard several times over the years and always enjoyed the food, location, and ambiance. I was very disappointed in my experience today and do not plan to go back. I went to the Brickyard for lunch with a friend who lives downtown. I ordered a vegetable panini, which I had ordered the last time I visited the Brickyard and enjoyed a great deal then. Not only was the woman who took my order surly and unfriendly, the sandwich was frankly a joke. It was supposed to include tomato, mushroom, hummus, cucumber, onion, and jack on panini bread. It was served on sourdough bread, with sundried tomatoes, unidentifiable vegetables, and gobs of goat cheese. It was awful. Normally, I would have made a stink about it but I had limited time with my friend and, of course, I had already paid for the sandwich. It is really a shame to see what used to be such a good restaurant go downhill like this. I don't know what the owner is thinking but this location deserves owners who take pride in their work and in making their customers happy.

There are two female employees, but the relatively young female employee is very unfriendly. And most of all, this coffee shop does not allow customers to use the bathroom.

We saw the opening hours posted here as 7am-12pm. Another post/comment confirmed it by phone call recently so we gave thought to give bit a try. Paid for street parking. So excited to check it out but they’re CLOSED @11:05 am. No sign on the door or window anywhere. Not sure if this is a company-wide practice, hopefully not. For this coffee expedition: completely disappointed.

The staff was very rude and seemed like they just wanted to go home. I ordered breakfast, and my coffee was not served with all the ingredients listed on the board; I had to ask for them, and I felt like a nuisance for doing so. My bagel was quite sad. The cream cheese was very sparse and didn't cover the bread. The salmon was torn into small pieces and placed with gaps, covering only half of the bagel in total. The presentation was very odd, with tomato slices, capers, and onion rings placed on the side. Never have I received such poor service and sad food for 19 dollars. Oh and the food was 50% more expensive in the store than on the menu on their website.

Really bummed on my experience here. I have lived in San Diego all my life. I'm a heavy coffee drinker and I really like to support local coffee shops and try all the different ones out because they tend to have way better quality than the big chains. I avoid Starbucks at all costs. I've been to The Caffeine Crawl 3 years in a row. This is all just to show you how much I love and have experienced coffee here. I have walked by this spot a couple times in the past and today I decided I'd give them a try. There were a handful of people in there. Walking up to the counter there was a person waiting on their food and then one other person waiting to order ahead of me. As I got in line I took in the place. I noticed it's pretty dusty and dirty, needs some care. I saw a bag of Cafe Moto beans, promising of some quality maybe. I also noticed there were a couple of espresso shots sitting under the portafilter at the machine. No crema at the top, indicating to me they were already sitting. The person ahead of me takes a few minutes to decide what they want. Now it's my turn to order. I patiently wait for the cashier to finish her texting and look up at me to take my order. (The espresso machine has not been touched since I have walked into this shop) I ask for a simple iced vanilla latte, no food. Fast, easy, simple. She turns to those sitting espresso shots and pours em right into my cup and I have a slight panic because I HATE being THAT person. I get her attention before she finished and ask if she just put the shots that were sitting there. She says "yes, these aren't old. They've been sitting maybe 3 minutes". I said "would you mind pulling a fresh one for me?" she looks me dead in the eyes with a smirk and says "They haven't been sitting for any longer than 10 minutes. It doesn't get old, that's not a thing" and continues to hand me my drink! I don't think I need to explain to anyone who drinks coffee regularly that this ended up being a really bitter, subpar coffee. I was in shock at the service and honestly should have asked for my money back and not even taken the coffee. I don't understand why she wouldn't just pull a new shot? Would have cost them maybe pennies, the old shots weren't even made for me to begin with, and it would have taken just a couple minutes of her time. Not sure what time she was trying to save with pre-pulling shots when there was no one else even waiting in there? I ended up continuing to walk deeper into downtown. Came upon Spill The Bean Coffee. Threw out my coffee I had just received from Brickyard And waited in the line that was going out the door at Spill The Beans. Spill The Beans was super clean, extremely friendly, fast, and fresh. I highly recommend them. Will not be going back to Brickyard. I've never had an experience like that at any coffee shop ever. This place has been there for a long time but I think they are sustained by the trolley and locals who need convenience ONLY. Sorry this was insanely long but absolutely necessary. Thanks.

What the heck? I brought in my own 16 ounce Contigo mug and asked for a 12 ounce latte, since I couldn’t put the top on if it was filled to the brim. The barista kept pointing to the middle of the mug, saying that’s all I would get, so don’t be surprised. I told her that would be 8 ounces, not 12. She glared at me, then proceeded to trash talk me in Spanish with the other barista. What, you think we couldn’t hear and understand you? Then what I got was one of the worst foamy lattes ever… and I’m a 2 a day person. Never again.

So much wasted potential. I am a local in this neighborhood who loves a good coffee shop. I have tried this place three times and am always disappointed. When I first moved here, I was excited to try Brickyard. The space looked so interesting, and I loved the patio. But I was more enthusiastic about Brickyard than the employees or the owner. The cashier could not care any less about what they were doing. The coffee and food was also something you could get from an Aramark cafeteria at a college. The coffee was so stale, bland, and weak. The baked goods were old, stiff, and ultraprocessed. Overall, nothing I’ve had here has ever been worth finishing. The interior also needs so much attention. Everything in it is dated and very unappealing. The space has such great bones and a killer exposed brick feel. But the interior design is something out of an older relative’s home. I wish that new management would take over. This could be THE SPOT for coffee, wine, and some excellent food. Sadly, it is Brickyard.

It’s sad that this once friendly customer oriented shop has deteriorated into a place with aggressive rude clerks. I’ve lived next to the Brickyard for 20 years. I’ll never go there again after I was kicked out yesterday for challenging the clerk who had shorted me $4 in change. Fortunately there is a very nice Starbucks across the street in the Headquarters

Completely rude barista, barley any customers inside and I understand why. She made the coffee for the people behind me before she made mine, I specifically asked for my sweet item right away and she straight up refused to give it to me before my food. That and I paid for a large drink, but got a small. Which is why I will be talking to my bank. I also have a obvious disability so that probably was why I was treated badly.

Don't go there; the person who works there is very bossy and rude. She doesn't care about being nice to her customers because she says the money isn't for her.

I had a bad experience today. The coffee I ordered was great. An additional $1.00 to add oat milk as creamer… I used the restroom, the cook banged on the door to state another customer needed the restroom. When I exited there was no new customer. The cook and the front counter clerk laughed. I feel shamed, degraded by these people. I am not sure what is troubling them to treat me unkind, I like for them to leave there problems at home.

The nice brick building drew us in since we live so close. It's a nice spot with a patio. However, the coffee & service REALLY NEED IMPROVEMENTS!! They should swap locations with Tin Scoop!

Went in for a regular drip coffee. Told me they ran out and only had vanilla nut. The barista wasn’t the least bit interested in making another pot of coffee or even offer a pour over. Isn’t that why a coffee shop exists. Wound up with a crappy Americano. I don’t recommend this place.
