Love this Nutmeg! Whenever I am in the Poway area I always stop in for my favorite Lavender Latte and a pastry. Their breakfast is also so tasty! The service is also amazing. When I dine in the staff make me feel like I am at their house sharing a meal with them. If you want a good latte or a tasty pastry please give Nutmeg a try…u will not be disappointed.
Pricey for 3 triangles of French toast with no sides included. Lavendar Mimosa was good. Some man jumped the line and started arguing. The cashier looked very uncomfortable. He kept saying we were here before her. She said you are in the wrong line to them. I just said let them go ahead. He kept trying to explain himself and I just said I don't want to hear it just order your food so this line can get their orders in. Luckily another cashier came out and said I'll take care of you
I come here whenever I visit SD! Been a fan since pre pandemic at their former location in mira mesa. I especially love the kale caesar and their side of chips. Everything about the salad is perfect- small details but no kale stems, the meaty parts of tomatoes nicely diced, delicious dressing… My only gripe is somehow whenever i do take out, they ALWAYS forget something… like the sourdough slices, the extra dressing ordered on the side, etc. So check your order! Also sad to see side of chips went up from $2.50 to $4… a 60% increase!!
Met up with a friend for breakfast. I had low expectations for a brunch place in a strip mall but it was really good. Fast service after ordering at the counter. Pleasant outdoor area to sit too. The coffee just hit the spot next to the omelette I had. I will definitely repeat. Easy parking as well.
The food was excellent. Well worth the price. The lamentation process is perfect creating light and airy pastries beautifully displayed. The coffee was warm and creamy with a nice touch of nutmeg. The bananas foster was filled with a light whipped cream that melts. This place really delivers.
An great neighborhood coffee/cafe shop for breakfast, lunch, or simply spending a productive day! I stumbled upon this gem recently and was instantly impressed by the warm and welcoming staff, clean environment, and the overall energy of the place. I visited on a Saturday morning and it was packed—every table taken, filled with people enjoying their food and conversations. The cashier mentioned that Fridays through Sundays are usually the busiest, especially before 9:30 AM. In the afternoon, things tend to quiet down around 2 PM. When I came back for lunch and was equally impressed. They offer a variety of healthy and nutritious options. The Wi-Fi is fast, the restrooms are clean. A decent environment for working, reading, or casual conversations. There’s even free water and excellent coffee. One thing to note: parking can be tight on weekends and Fridays, but it’s manageable during other times.
A great local breakfast place to grab a quick meal with friends. We have been going here for years and the food has been consistently good. I usually get the Nutmeg scramble or shashuka, but ordered the Spicy Corn Beef Hash this time. Love the heat. Everyone else like their orders. There is seating inside and a small patio outside. The business expanded recently to offer more indoor seating and a cute little boutique shop next door.
Nice place for breakfast and early brunch. Food is delicious. There is a nice outside sitting area. The menu has a wide variety of food that fits everyone like gluten-free options and vegan options. We like everything we have ordered here. My favorite was the hibiscus tea. I will be here agains.
Nutmeg is a great breakfast spot. Fresh dishes and delicious pastries. When I first started going to Nutmeg thier coffee drinks were exceptional. Overall time the barista talent has decreased.
Nutmeg Bakery & Cafe: A family-friendly gem in Sabre Springs, San Diego. This artisan bakery offers an array of comforting baked goods and hearty brunch dishes. Nutmeg expanded their space over the last few years, making this an inviting place for families, couples, and local foodies exploring North San Diego’s breakfast spots. For Sunday brunch, we enjoyed a warm ham and cheese croissant. Its airy, flaky layers and butter richness complemented the ham and melted Swiss cheese to create a pleasant balance of salty and savory flavors. The spicy corned beef hash was a substantial dish, full of brightly colored ingredients. It had a pile of vibrant scrambled eggs, corned beef bites, sliced green onions, jalapeños, red peppers and potatoes, and melted cheese. While the spice was milder than expected, some dashes of hot sauce enhanced its acidity and heat. The ordering / dining experience was straight forward: order from the friendly counter staff, take a number, and settle into one of the many indoor or outdoor tables for efficient food delivery by the servers. Note: The outdoor area is in a cozy, shaded area with limited seating. The counter service is noticeably friendly and welcoming. The floor service felt less attentive, likely due to the busy weekend brunch crowd. Nutmeg Bakery & Cafe in Sabre Springs is a great choice for a tasty, mid-priced meal. It is well-suited for families or anyone craving artisan baked goods in North San Diego.
Quaint little Cafe that's not a brand name restaurant. Food was pretty good and just right servings. The menu offers some healthy options and traditional egg breakfast plates, sandwiches, panini's, wraps and fancy avocado toast! Employees are very friendly. Love the bakery items offered like fresh, large, tall cinnamon rolls, scones, croissants, brownies and more.
Nutmeg is not the same place it used to be. The food quality has gone downhill, everything tasted bland and not worth the price. Even the coffee was disappointing. I used to love their Mexican mocha, but the last one I ordered was so bad I couldn’t even finish it. The service was okay overall, but the barista was a bit rude when we asked for a water cup. He insisted there were cups out for us to grab, but there were none. It wasn’t until he checked himself that he realized the cup area was empty. Not a huge issue on its own, but it added to the experience. The biggest issue is that the pricing no longer matches the quality. We paid $75 for two adult plates and one child’s meal, which feels excessive given the taste and quality. I gave this place another chance, but that was the last one. I won’t be visiting again.
Wow, what a disappointing place. The nutmeg coffee was good, but pastries were terrible. We got a chocolate chip cookie (very thick but hard), monkey bread (nothing to it but sweet bread) & a Danish that must have been at least a day old. This was not worth the drive to Poway. We have many great bakeries in SD but this is not one of them. I'm embarrassed to take my mom an almond croissant as it is hard/stale also. Ugh
