Opinions de Sul & Beans San Diego
Delicious patbingsoo. Probably one of the best ones I have enjoyed stateside, very fresh shaved ice and fruits. It gets crazy packed so definitely plan to wait a bit and hunt for a table to sit. The staff is really friendly and helpful when you're trying to make a decision, which is a plus. Overall, I recommend it and would return in the future. Definitely a great place to hangout with friends after dinner or take someone who has never experienced Korean desserts before.
We had the earl grey Bingsoo and it was very tasty. Very strong earl grey flavor and the snow was soft and melted nicely. The cream on top was sooooo good too!
A good variety of flavors with toppings that go well together. The shaved ice are not too sweet and great for sharing. I only wish they had smaller sized options as it hard to finish with two people and especially by yourself.
This place is great! They're menu is simple and the environment is clean and modern. The customer service was amazing and the honey lemon tea is also great. I definitely recommend this place to anybody who is looking for a new place for tea or korean shaved ice.
Ya Daebak! Perfect name for their delicious menu. It’s true when they say Authentic Korean Bingsoo made entirely from scratch is crazy good. Here I am thinking Sul means Seoul. Yes, I know I’m embarrased. Especially coming from someone that’s addicted to Korean Drama. Upon checking their website. Sul means “snow” in Korean while Beans stand for “red beans” Gotta try their other flavors but so far the Green Tea Bingsoo is my fave!
Bingsoo is sooo good. I kind of want to gatekeep it because the other icecream store it shares the space with gets all of the hype but Sul & beans is a hidden gem!!
I like this place. The shaved ice is pretty fluffy and light. Fruit toppings where good. Tried mango and coffee with mochi. I will be back to try the strawberry-cheese.
This place is awesome! I only thought there was a location in LA. So happy I have great Korean shaved ice in San Diego. They have the best mochi.
We love this place- especially the mango and chocolate Bing soo. So glad we discovered it when we visited next door. Can’t wait to try their new Salted Cream Top Series.
Sul & Beans Convoy Street San Diego, California So, after a fantastic Korean dinner, we both decided to have a Korean dessert. It's been a while since we had dessert at Sul & Beans, which is connected to our other favorite desserts place, SOMISOMI. The dessert we had is a traditional Korean dessert called Bingsoo "Bingsoo is a popular Korean shaved ice dessert made with milk-based shaved ice and sweet toppings.: We decided to get two items. One was the Chocolate Bingsoo, which was delicious. The Bingsoo was flavorful and fluffy. The chocolate brownies were a great accompaniment to the dessert. The next item we ordered was the Cinnamon Toast, which was delicious and flavorful. They have several to choose from. The staff members are always helpful, friendly, and informative. The cafe is spacious and offers different seating areas. The only drawback is the parking. This is located in a strip mall with limited parking, but the desserts at Sul & Beans and SomiSomi are worth the wait. Now Convoy is crowded all the time and all the restaurants and cafes are always busy. I know this because I'm a native San Diegan and have watched this area grow and watch how busy this road has become. So all I'm going to say is have patience. If you don't have it. Then I would avoid this area. If they are busy then thier busy. That can't be help because there is apossibility that this place could be popular like so many other places on this street. Now, Bingsoo is not for everyone because some flavors could be something you are not used to. Of I don't like it, I would never mention it because it's a bit rude, especially to a culture who may love that flavor. The way I look at it is just a lesson learn, and I probably not order it again. Overall, this fantastic place if you want to try a fantastic and delicious Korean dessert.
The shaved ice is approximately $15 each, the portion is large and good to share with 2 or 3 people. We like the macha, black sesame and mango flavors. Coffees are meh.
THE GREEN TEA BINGSOO THOOOO That's all I have to say. Just kidding. This place is always packed for a reason, and while there's usually more of a line in SomiSomi (taiyaki/boong uh bbang in same building), there's always people waiting for coffee or bingsoo too. I feel like whenever I come here there's rarely open seats, there's people hanging outside, and the parking lot is swamped (absolutely nuts every time, park somewhere else imo). The coffee is good, nothing out of this world, I love the reusable coffee cups they give you. I haven't tried the Injeolmi, but it looks yummy. The real star of the show for me is the Bingsoo. Portions are big, definitely (preferably) shareable between 2-3 people. They have a good variety of flavors. I've tried the classic, the taro, and the green tea, all great. I want to try some of the fruit ones but I always end up craving the Green Tea one and leave it for next time lol, one of these days! You have to order in the same area you pick up your food/drink, so it can be a little disorienting if it's your first time going, as sometimes there's a line but it's for pick up and sometimes the line is for ordering. I feel like they should separate the area so it's more clear, but hey nothing that won't be solved by asking the people which line it is. Sorry introverts 😬 (it me, I'm the introvert). 10/10 keep coming back for more. Like for real, every time I'm in the area I'm like... Well might as weeeeeeell, while I'm heeeeere 🐷❤️
Best shaved ice. Ordered the injeolmi bingsoo and taiyaki. Good price and everything made fresh. Can’t go wrong with their shaved ice. Highly recommend
One of the best Korean dessert places I've been to. I love their drinks. Dessert toasts and shaved ice. It's so conveniently located in Convoy st and near all the wonderful Asian restos.
Sul & Beans makes some of the best shaved ice desserts. This is the first time I've had Taro and it was amazing. Green Tea is my favorite flavor, but Taro is a very strong competitor. They also offer a vast variety of fish shaped treats (taiyaki/bungeobbang), but unfortunately never had the hotteok flavor when I visited. I had both dine-in and takeout. When ordering takeout they package everything nicely in a insulated thermal bag. Even after waiting over 30 minutes to eat it at home, not a single flake of shaved ice had melted. Very well and smartly done.
Popular hangout spot especially on weekends so its super packed and hard to find seating. But their desserts are really good they specialize in many different taiyaki flavors, toast, and bingsoo. I recommend the strawberry or mango bingsoo and the injeolmi or choux cream toast, and to get many different flavors of taiyaki to try. They also serve fresh strawberry milk but they sell out super quickly ‼️
Never had Bingsoo before but a friend took me. Amazing! The base tasted so milky and sweet and just a perfect paring with the other toppings. We got Black Sesame Bingsoo and Taro Bingsoo.
Honestly it’s pretty freaking good. Got the black sesame bingsoo. Huge portion, lightly sweet with various textures. Would recommend the experience and enjoyed the flavor, almost a light peanut butter.
Decent wait after you order but delicious. The green tea toast looks great (not mine) and the Taiyaki are warm and tasty. Get some ice cream from next door and combine!
We came at a time where it wasn't so busy, so we got our desserts very quickly. We got the black sesame bingsu and the Oreo bingsu. The shave ice was super soft and fine and the toppings were delicious. The black sesame flavor was strong, and came with red beans, almonds, injeolmi bits, as well as some dried bits of jujube (?). We also got the green grape-ade and it tasted like green grape gummies. There are many places to sit and water for those who don't order drinks. Overall it was a good experience and will come back soon.
I love this place! Food is always delicious and there is plenty seating to hang out with friends. Family friendly too! It is busy on the weekends but worth the wait. I recommend the Earl gray bingsoo. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Korean dessert shop is always my favorite place to hangout with friend, or just have a rest by myself. This place reminds me of Cafe Bene, a Korean coffee&dessert shop that I grew up with. I went there for coffee, bingsoo and even breakfast. Their desserts and coffee are authentic and delicious. I love Korean bingsoo much much much better than Hawaiian shaved ice. It’s creamier, lighter and fluffier. Once you try it, you will fall in love immediately. It’s also kinda healthier, because it’s less sweet and usually putting real fruits and red beans, peanuts….than candies, or colored syrup … I definitely love this spot, and also their sister place next door Somi Somi.

Pros: Makes you feel great at avoiding the SomiSomi line next door as that line always seems ridiculous. Large portions of unique shaved ice desserts with various toppings. Lots of seating available, shared with SomiSomi. The shaved ice is lighter than some others I've tried on Convoy, not sure if its a style thing but was very refreshing without being heavy or overly sweet. Cons: Came on a week day night and they were out of my first choice toppings as well as a few others. Shared with SomiSomi so you may regret not waiting in that line just out of FOMO.
The shaved ice/bingsoo is not bad, kinda expensive though. We had the black sesame. The taiyaki/boong uh bbang is really good (I had the red bean, but I heard that the hotteok one is a must-try).
It was extremely crowded when we went on a Tuesday night. We really wanted the ice cream next-door, which I think is from the same restaurant, but the line was insanely long. so instead, we went to the Bingsu counter instead. It is a shaved ice milk dessert which we tried for the first time. My friend did not like it at all because it is not very sweet. I appreciated it how light it felt while still having the feeling of a frozen treat. We had the injeolmi flavor and the best way I can describe the flavor is imagine you had a bowl of Cheerios and milk, let it sit for a while, poured the milk out and froze it, and then shaved it like a snow cone. I would definitely go back, but my friend would not. I would try the strawberry or mango next time. It was super crowded because of all the people who waited in the long ice cream line, but we were able to find a table.
Bingsoo(shaved ice) was surprisingly good. To me, I prefer shaved ice that is not overwhelmingly sweet. Problem with shaved ice nowadays is that we put too much condensed milk on it. The shaved ices here emphasize on fresh fruit and flavors. Also ordered black sesame and green tea mochi toasts. Pro tip: eat toast when it's hot. The mochi filling inside the toast tastes so much better when it's fresh!
The icecream bowls are some of the best dessert experiences you could have. I think they have the best mochi! Recommend: share an icecream bowl. Four stars because the ceramic bowls could be replaced for wood colored ones - food presentation would then match the furniture.
bingsoo is a great sweet treat for the heat, milky shaved ice topped with your favorite fruit or toppings. Mango is more on the sweeter side compared to others. I do miss the presentation of how it used to be served, but as of now togo containers can still be enjoyed right outside. Also, you can order taiyaki without having to go into another line. Nutella and custard are my go to flavors.

Overall 3/5 Parking: free, but small lot. If you come past 4pm you probably won't get a spot. No Wifi! Can't WFH or study here. The strawberry citron tea and POG tea are very good. 5.50$ for small and 6$ for large and with a large you get the pretty plastic cup. Service is quick.
Stopped to get dessert at Sul & Beans. This is an authentic Korean dessert place. We ordered the mango bingsoo (no picture because it was devoured before we could take picture) and red bean taiyaki. Nice treats to satisfy our sweet tooth.
I enjoy bing soo and had Sul Bean bing soo many times. First time in this location. It was disappointing and I barely ate my bing soo. It was Liquidy and texture was mushy. Not sure if this was a rare incident but walked away disappointed.

I came here after my a very extraordinary dining experience around the corner, only to be disappointed by terrible dessert. I ordered Sul & Bean's chocolate sul and was left wanting. It had the texture of frozen chocolate milk with a refrigerant taste. Their saving grace may have been their red bean taiyaki, but that was plainly satisfactory. The only redeeming quality of this place was their coffee. I won't be visiting again, but it was overall a clean restaurant, popular (I don't understand why), and not enough parking in the complexes, but has nothing to do with the restaurant itself. It's a Clairemont neighborhood thing.
This is new management, the old management is Caffe Bene This review is only for the item I ordered. I will go there again and try different things, if possible. I was expecting more, we ended up here only because SomiSomi had 1hr wait. This was not a great experience, the food was just like, I rated "Meh. I've experienced better". Menu is not very clear, so we looked at display food and ordered from there. We saw two items very appealing, One is Fresh Strawberry Bingsoo and other is Green Tea Injeolmi Toast. Strawberry Bingsoo: * The food what we got was not looking like display food. * Taste was bland, it was like eating just shaved ice with strawberry pieces and very few pieces of cheese cake * For this $10 is too much. I can make same food for under $3 Green Tea Injeolmi: * Looks is deceiving * Bland taste, just toast and matcha green powder sprinkled on the top. * But the red been on the top was too good. I might go again to try the much hyped fish waffle.
Open hours are misleading. Came in around 10:15 PM and they were already closed:(
They charged me for regular boba but it wasn’t available and then they didn’t want to refund but insisted on crystal boba instead even after my disagreement on it. The taro and milk tea wasn’t tasty at all either. Wouldn’t be coming here again.
The staff blatantly lied to our faces. We ordered a mango bingsoo but we received a strawberry bingsoo. They said they did not have any more mango in stock. However, when we sat down, the couple two tables down appeared with a mango bingsoo in their hands. This came as quite a shock because the staff said they didn’t have any more mangos! In addition, our strawberry bingso was slightly watery and quite disappointing.
I wish I could give them 0 star because they deserve none. I’ve never written a review before, but I have to for this place. I have been coming to this place for years. Occasionally, twice a day. But because of this one incidence, NEVER AGAIN. On 7/1 around 3PM, we ordered one injeolmi bingsu (인절미 빙수), but surprisingly there was NO injeolmi (rice cake) inside. The bowl was filled with bean powder and ice only. So we went there and asked for reason, they gave us a cold look and said “oh, we didn’t cut the rice cake then, so it was not ready at the time. We are cutting it now, do you want some now?” What kind of joke is this? Just because they did not have the rice cake ready, they chose to not tell the customer and serve the customer only the portion of the food when charging for the full price? We were shocked by their attitude, but got more disappointed by their DISHONESTY. We were disappointed by the fact that they obviously knew what was going on, but chose to hide as if customers wouldn’t find out! If you do not have injeolmi at the time, you should tell your customer before charging or before serving. What a shame!
