This was such a hole in the wall! I was running errands and just quickly searched for something nearby and landed here. Then I was met with an incredibly fresh, delectable and savory chicken souvlaki pita. The chicken was seasoned well and I was met with a generous serving of large, plump, and moist bites. The sauce was balanced and had an intentional acidity to it that didn't rip apart my mouth like most passable Greek food. My partner's gyro tender platter was a large and well proportioned serving. The gyro was freshly shredded and had a perfect crispy to it. Pair those bites with their spicy feta and it was heavenly. I couldn't stop wanting more bites. The staff was very kind and accommodating. I'm so delighted to have ended up here :) Oh and here's a photo of the last bite of my pita. I was too excited to eat it when I started that I forgot to take the photo at the beginning.
I walked in with 4 teenagers and even the picky ones loved it ! The owner was so proud to keep this place going for the last several years . The portions are hefty. Staff friendly . Clean establishment .
Is this how good the food in Greece is? If so I'm flying there next month! Came here with my buddy and we were starving! We started off by sharing the Greek fries with feta cheese on top ! Me and my friend each got a plate, I got the chicken tikka plate which came with rice and sides. It was so flavor! My friend got the beef koftu plate and he loved it. We each got wraps. He got the pork gyro and said it was so much flavor in the gyro. I got the falafel gyro and I loved it. Very filling and the veggies are so fresh. The restaurant was clean and the cashier was super nice which is always a plus.
In town for work and happened to stumble upon this establishment. Ended up eating here a couple times it was so terrific. This place is a gem with wonderful staff behind the counter, clean building, and the food is always hot and fresh. Affordable pricing as well. Parking can get a little hectic in front of the building if the main street has traffic (mainly during rush hour). Highly recommended.
Hands down the best Greek food in town at Zgara Greek Grill. If you’re looking for authentic Greek cuisine, Zgara Greek Grill is the place to go. The flavors were fresh, vibrant, and perfectly seasoned. The service was warm and welcoming. The atmosphere, and the hospitality make it a fantastic dining experience. Can’t wait to return!
Amazing chicken gyro and decent deal for lunch meal. $14.56 after tax for a gyro, seasoned fries, and drink. Chicken is off the rotating grill, and very flavorful. Mix of breat and thigh meat. Only thing is a lack of sauce in the gyro, so plan on ordering a side of tszaki sauce for an extra $1.
If I had the option to give it 10 stars, I would the food was delicious. I found this place by mistake. I’m glad I did. They have both chicken and beef gyro Options. I got the chicken kebab lunch special number two and added a side of beef gyro meat. Is clean delicious and the owner that works the kitchen is very friendly as well. I’ll definitely be coming back again for lunch.
My friend eats here all the time so we came here and met the owner. Its very Clean, friendly, fresh, good portions & affordable. Great lunch specials around $10. The Gyro sandwich are fresh and fries are crispy!
First time trying Zgara and was impressed. Authentic Greek food at reasonable prices with quick service. I had the Gyro Sandwich lunch special which included fries and a can of soda (Coke products). Gyro meat was fresh and plentiful - honestly it was almost too much meat - that’s how much they give you in the sandwich. Sandwich also had onions, tomatoes, lettuce and tzatziki sauce at just the right amounts in the pita. Fries were crispy and tasted great as well. Will have to try their other menu items soon.
This is the only place in San Diego where you'll find an authentic, pork gyros just like in Greece! Yes, you read that right, gyros in Greece are made of pork, not beef/lamb like the Greek-American places do. I had loved eating at Zgara years ago and was sad to see them close in Pacific Beach. I literally jumped for joy when they opened up on Morena Blvd. The food is delicious! I guarantee you it'll be the best gyros you'll ever have in San Diego!
This was probably the best Greek food I have ever tasted in my life. The chicken was seared to perfection and had a great aroma and taste. The rice had a great follow through with its flavor and made each bite better. The tzatziki and hummus had the right balance and consistency and I'm not really a fan of humus but I enjoyed it. The pita bread tied up the meal into matrimony. While dining in people picking up to go orders were praising the staff before I even got my plate. Staff was friendly. It did take a while to get my food but it was well worth the wait. I will go back
Simple, clean, efficient, friendly place. The food was excellent, well prepared and authentic. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The service also warm and friendly. Great food, good people, generous portions, reasonable prices. We felt like we were back in the greek isles for a warm meal.
The Gyro is the best I’ve found in San Diego. Delicious and a really good amount of meat. Highly recommend. Family owned and operated. The owners are super nice.
If you like Greek food and you're in the area this is the place to go. Everything is amazing. Food, service and prices are great. The owner takes pride in his restaurant and it shows. You won't be disappointed. Literally THE BEST GYROS in San diego for sure.

I can’t say enough good things about Zgara! From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with warm hospitality that makes you feel like family. The food is absolutely incredible everything is fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The gyro is hands down the best I’ve ever had, the meats are juicy and seasoned just right, and the tzatziki sauce is so authentic and delicious.
Customer service was so amazing and accommodating. When we finished our food they packed everything up for us. They had the best baklava EVER. 10/10
An amazinggggg Greek restaurant! The falafel was so fresh, soft and honestly some of the best I’ve had (and I’ve been to Greece). I also got a kofta sandwich and it was super flavorful and juicy. I was genuinely sad when I finished because I wanted more.
This is a fine informal shop to get great greek food. My vegetarian son chose the veggie wrap with fries and I had the falafel. Yum! We would both recommend.

I saw the stellar reviews so I came in with some high expectations, and I think overall it was okay. I'd come back if I was in the neighborhood and craving a Greek gyro. I wish the meat could have been more flavorful, but I do think the sheer amount oc meat they give you (a mountain) does make up for it. Best gyros I've had? No, but it's definitely decent and I'd come back.
I've been searching for a decent Greek spot in SD for a while now, and sadly, after the great reviews of Zgara, this isn't it They claim to be authentic, but the flavor just isn't there. Their gyro meat is on the dry side, not succulent like you get in just about any souvlatzidiko in Greece. Their pita is soft, but not grilled at all and has little flavor. Their tzatziki has little to no garlic in it, and this tasted like plain yogurt. The single tomato slice was tasteless and more pink than red. And why is there lettuce in a gyro? The search continues... The fries were decent though.

The food did not taste like other Greek food I have tried befoe. The meat was very dry and had little flavor. The bread was thin and they had lettuce in there which I have not seen in other Greek places. To me it tasted like street middle eastern food and not Greek.

Got the chicken gyro and the chicken was pink. Gross. Do not recommend.
