Opinions de Atami Sushi San Francisco
The best nigiri in SF! The chef really has an eye for picking out great fish. It’s a family run spot, and Michelle the waitress is the sweetest. I’ve been coming here forever and bring everyone that visits. Try the Blue Hawaii roll, Stripe Jack nigiri, and of course Sake nigiri that goes down like butter. For those saying it’s slow, it’s made to order, don’t rush perfection.
One of the best sushi we’ve ever had - big recommendation Just be aware that the portions are rather small and you have to order more than one plate.
Quaint neighborhood place. Run by a lovely lady. Got an order of 8 uni for my birthday and it was delicious. In the area so I go regularly, the fish is pretty fresh and the specials are delicious! They also do take out.
Amazing hidden gem of a sushi spot run by a quiet, dedicated couple in a cozy space. What more could you ask for! Seriously, the sushi is very good, will be going back again
As a long-time resident in the area, I've explored the local sushi scene extensively, and Atami is a standout among its peers. Unlike neighboring spots that often overprice their offerings or prioritize alcohol over quality, Atami strikes a perfect balance. Their sushi is both well-crafted and reasonably priced. What truly distinguishes Atami is the warm and attentive couple who run the restaurant. They possess an incredible knack for remembering your preferences, making each visit a personalized experience. This level of care and familiarity is something rare to find. Atami has rightfully earned its place as a local favorite. It's not just a place to eat; it's an establishment where you're made to feel at home. The cozy atmosphere, the dedicated owners, and the consistently fantastic sushi all contribute to its exceptional reputation. If you're in search of outstanding sushi with a personal touch and affordability, Atami is the place to be.
I spent 2 nights in San Francisco and both nights I chose to eat dinner here. Sushi was amazing! Fresh an delicious. Lots of interesting choices. Great service! Definitely will come back next time I’m down here!
My favorite restaurant on the planet. I have eaten here with friends and family at least 50 times and always had an excellent experience. This is a small family owned restaurant with amazing and authentic Japanese sushi. Yes, the portions are on the smaller site but the quality of the ingredients and the love of the owners for their customers more than makes up for this. On some nights the service can be slow but just bring time and you won't be disappointed. This restaurant is all about taste and flavor, unlike so many Bay Area restaurants that sell mediocre food in a hipster ambiance for the same price.
The place seems to be owned by an old adorable couple who do everything - from bringing you the menu to actually making sushi and cleaning up. It means that food comes out slowly, but boy it is worth it! Our meal was one of the freshest tasting sushi dinners we’ve had in the city (and we’ve been to a lot of Japanese places). I will come back!
This place is amazing! The sushi is so fresh and amazingly unique. The couple who runs this place is great! We stayed a little past closing time, but they still let us order another round and were very happy to take our orders! It was great. Highly recommend!
Authentic, fresh sushi in a cozy setting. Their special rolls are excellent and they use super high quality fish for their nigiri. Service is a bit slow, but it’s part of the experience. Our favorite sushi spot in SF.
Fantastic! Best raw fish I’ve had in the city. Highly recommend. High quality at fair price
Great local place that’s quiet and with excellent service. Best sushi I’ve had in the US. Fish is of excellent quality. Only thing I’d ding them on is that the spider roll I had was only average, but nigri was all excellent. Also note that at least when I went there they didn’t open the door until 5:05 and didn’t serve food until 530, but I had no where to go so it worked for me. If you’re in a rush I’d order for take out instead
Such a cozy place, it feels like you dine at a family house. We ordered tempura shrimp and vegetables, it came with rice and miso soup. The rice was so unusually tasty, it was great. Sushi was also perfect 😙 🍱 ~$30 for person
This place is by far, some of the best sushi we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Highly recommend!!!
Absolutely incredible meal. The portions were a little small and it wasn’t a cheap dinner but it was also some of the best sushi I’ve ever had - and we lived in Vancouver. The server was also an absolute sweetheart. What a gem of a place - DEFINITELY worth it!
A small intimate spot, tiny sushi bar and a handful of tables. Staff always seems to be family/owner type. Sometimes service is slow but as long as you have drinks already who cares. A wonderful place to go and talk, drink and eat sushi. On the less expensive side of SF sushi pricing.
OK, I found Atami in probably 2001, ate there constantly since I moved out of SF in 2008, but everytime I go back I have to check in on Michelle and Wiley, and eat the best sushi. The last time was September 2022 but I forgot to write a review. I just was checking to make sure they are still around. I, and almost all the locals commenting are quite protective of Atami as it was fully local, not the ambiance, not the flash, just the family and great innovative sushi. I always took out of towners here one night just to show the local scene and they always loved it. I find it hard to believe Michelle would be "cold" as I see in some reviews. She and Willey completely remembered me my last visit after probably 8 years and again the sushi was superb. The more things change, the more we love that which stays the same.
One of my Marina District favorites. Every item of sashimi or sushi is individually cut and prepared just for you. It's entirely run by an elderly husband and wife. If you get there around 8 pm or so, it will definitely take some time before your pleasures arrived. Wiser to be early or late. I very much enjoy the timeless feeling of being in "their" presence.
Best sushi I ever eat!! Great spot with excelent attention. We feel like we’ve been eating in Japan! I really recommend this place if you want to have a first class culinary experience!
The sushi here is super good. Really interesting combos of ingredients thoughtfully put together. Everything we had was high quality - even the tempura was some of the best I’ve ever had. The restaurant is clean, classy, and the couple who owns it are very sweet. Note portions are on the smaller side - 6pcs per roll - so just be aware you need to order more to be full and the bill will be a bit more than usual. We ordered 8-10 rolls + appetizers for 4 people and still left a bit hungry.
This place has some of the best sushi I've ever had and the atmosphere is extremely cute. The place looks like it's in a cute and cozy Japanese house. Food is all served on Japanese style plates. The chef is amazing and the service is excellent. The staff is very sweet. Everything we ordered was amazing but my recommendation is the maple leaf roll - seriously the best roll I have ever had. We had to get a second order of it because it was so good.
The best things in life always survive, including Atami Sushi. We have been going to Atami since 1999, and this family run business continues to maintain high quality delicious sushi with a friendly comfortable atmosphere. Michelle and Wiley always make you feel welcome when you arrive and they remember your favorite selections. The sushi is always fresh, the service is quick, and Michelle always keeps the restaurant extremely clean. They have had a tough time fighting through the Covid shutdowns, so if you are in the neighborhood and want some great sushi in a cozy and friendly restaurant, you should stop on by and pay them a visit. Also, this is a rarity in SF, but they have several parking spots for those coming from farther away.
Staying nearby, I eat here twice. The nagiri was excellent and the decor is in harmonious taste, but above all I was welcomed as a solo diner.
Delicious food, old school atmosphere, quiet ambiance the night I went but I could tell there are bad acoustics, the place appears to the owned by an older couple yet the dishes are innovative and creative, all very fresh. It’s has parking behind the building on Lombard st. It’s a win win!
I love it! Fresh, fresh, fresh! Quiet and flavorful. So far... every time, everything it's been delicious! Just adding a couple pictures. I've been here probably 20+ times over the past 5 years and the quality is 10 out of 10 every single time. Perhaps they have some days when food takes longer to reach your table but that's because it's a little owners run restaurant. There aren't many places left where food is prepared and served by its owners. This place delivers quality every.single.time.
Every time I visit San Francisco this is the place I go it's small nice perfect Comfort the service is amazing husband and wife owned fresh sushi great prices I can't say anything more going to how amazing the whole experience was
Beautiful place, amazing staff, delicious and super fresh food. Love it here. You guys should go for it.

Best sushi restaurant I’ve been to in SF. Very high quality and great atmosphere. I go here as much as I can. Great for a date night or friends. Get the Atami Yummy roll
Great customer service, excellent food for a fair price! I love the salmon nigiri and mango mochi😋
Love atami. Totally underrated intimate sushi spot. Husband and wife owned and operated. Their sushi is fantastic. Come in, slow down, relax. I’ve been coming for years.
Atami is the best spot to grab sushi around! Great neighborhood feel, the people who work there are just the best. Absolutely amazing sushi with new specials always circulating. Could not recommend it more, they treat everyone like family.
Best sushi, hands down. I haven’t been to enough sushi places in SF to say it’s the best in the city. But what I can tell you it’s the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. Be patient. It’s just mom and pop behind the counter, but it’s worth it.
I'd like to give 7 Stars. Lovely little Sushi Bar with one of the best sushi I've ever had. I have to add something: Every second is worth the wait. Be sure you'll be rewarded! ありがとう for having us.

it’s not bad for the price, but seriously after several other amazing SF sushi places, this one has nothing special to write home about
Cozy spot, the sushi was delicious but the rolls were extremely small. One roll felt like the equivalent to half or 2/3 of a regular roll. We also got the Tuna that was listed on the menu at $23 but were charged $36 for it, the lady told us it was now hard to get. That tuna portion was also extremely small, not really worth the price. Overall, yummy sushi and wonderful atmosphere but quite expensive for what you get.

Good sushi spot. I went in alone and there was no one there. I wanted to sit at the bar. They made me sit at a table. Food was decent / ok.

It's just a nightmare, how slow!!!!! I ordered a seaweed salad and rolls (1). I waited 30 minutes for them to bring it to me. It's terrible. The portions are tiny. Considering their size - very expensive. I strongly do not recommend it.
The food was not what I expected. I don't know if I'm used to larger pieces of sushi, but the pieces were too small and thin for the price. We ordered three sushi rolls and paid nearly $50. The service was not very good either. They made us wait for 30 minutes for the food, and the waitress was not very friendly. I do not look forward to eating here again.
Had sashimi moriawase as an entree and chirashi sushi. The chirashi sushi consisted of 5-mm-thick slices of mediocre selection of fish, laid thinly over the sushi rice. Nothing else was on the rice, which was over-seasoned. There was no point of interest, no change in texture or character, no ikura, no shiso - it was devoid of the charm that one usually expects from a decent chirashi selection. Do not recommend at all. They should just remove it from the menu. The sashimi moriawase had better, thicker cuts of fish, but the selection was nothing special and the portions were meager. On the positive side, the ambiance of the restaurant feels very Japanese, it is small and narrow, feels cute and very clean. Service was okay, not great but not terrible. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was underwhelming. We will not be returning.
We had a very unpleasant experience with the waitress, she treated us with a cold attitude and showed no interest in our table. It took her almost half an hour to take our order and when she finally served us, we asked her how many pieces a roll had and instead of answering us, she rudely told us that we had to spend at least 20 dollars per person or else they wouldn't serve us. It felt weird because we didn’t understood why she was being so rude. All with the worst attitude and as if she did not want to serve us. It made the experience so unpleasant so we decided to leave.
Literally took over an hour to get our food and there is no service. We couldn’t even ask for a refill on the hot tea. Unless you have all the time in the world, I would not waste my time here.
I deeply regret my decision to dine at Atami Sushi Bar. The shockingly unpleasant behavior of the waitress completely ruined our experience. From her rude and disinterested attitude to her lack of menu knowledge and basic courtesy, it was clear that she had no interest in providing a pleasant dining experience. I strongly advise against visiting Atami Sushi Bar, as there are undoubtedly better options available that offer both quality service and exceptional sushi.
Genuinely just poor service overall. No wait staff tending to customers. Took 20 minutes to order. Almost an hour later, no food and so we walked out. Poor management of expectations. Was not told it would a long wait. If we had known, we wouldn’t have wasted more than an hour to not eat anything. Also, felt that the waitress was rude/dismissive toward how long the wait was. Again, no update that the food would take long. Only until we specifically asked her for an update did she give us one. Had the food taken more than an hour to come, would it have been addressed? We’ll never know. Just a weird way of doing business. If you’re tight on time or if you just value your time, I’d avoid this place.
So sad, it’s such a beautiful place but the services was awful. We arrived at the same time as a group and the waitress decided to attend them fully and keep us waiting for like 35 minutes. When she finally came to take our order (she was apathetic and rude) she demanded a minimum consume of 20 dollars per person for the food (not the drinks included) or she wouldn’t serve us anything. They should have a sign by the entrance of this policy instead of keeping us waiting and later treating us like a bother. We left so we couldn’t try the food but it wouldn’t taste good with that kind of service. Find another place to eat sushi.
