Opinions de Bombay Brasserie San Francisco
Chef George's unique approach has not only delighted diners but also garnered attention from food critics. His dishes, such as the duck confit samosas and tandoori salmon, exemplify his ability to infuse traditional Indian cuisine with French elegance. The restaurant's ambiance complements the menu, offering a refined yet welcoming atmosphere in the heart of Union Square. For those seeking a dining experience that celebrates the fusion of Indian and French culinary traditions, Bombay Brasserie under Chef Thomas George's leadership is a must-visit destination.
I had the best time here a couple weeks ago. I celebrated my birthday with a wonderful prefixed menu dinner. Everything was delicious. The staff were kind and our server David helped us pick out the best items from menu to try. He did not steer us wrong. The Executive Chef George Thomas came out to greet us and check on how we were enjoying our meals. I felt super taken care of and comfortable. One of my more memorable birthday experiences for sure.
The restaurant feels upscale yet comfortable, and the staff really elevates the experience with their professionalism and friendliness. The menu offers a nice balance of classic dishes and creative options, and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. It’s rare to find a hotel restaurant that delivers this level of quality, and I’d absolutely recommend it whether you’re staying here or not.
Elegant spot with incredible Indian–French flavors. Loved the Kerala beef pepper fry and tandoor-smoked salmon—so flavorful and beautifully presented. Cocktails were just as creative. Service was attentive without being overbearing, which made the evening feel even more special. Highly recommended!
Outstanding food, quiet'ish atmosphere, decent-to-great service, but VERY high prices*. I had the limited-time "Holi" menu, which for the $70 (including many delicious courses!) was an absolute steal for this place. Their normal pricing is definitely on the high side, even for upscale hotels. But if your budget allows, this'd be a stellar place to take a date or your parents or even just treat yourself. Every dish and drink I had was SUPER-DELICIOUS, with fine presentation as well as great flavor & texture. And to my happy surprise, I was 100% stuffed after the prix fixe Holi menu, whereas these sort of menus often provide artful food but not enough of it. The meats were tender, the breads were perfect, the veg dishes were prepared masterfully, and even my breakfast potatoes were seasoned and crisped to perfection! (why is it otherwise so hard to find deliciously crispy and flavorful breakfast potatoes nowadays?!) The waitstaff that helped me were competent, professional, and attentive. My water glass was never empty. Even better, I heard and watched some of the interactions with other patrons and some of the other waitstaff were even more helpful, engaging, and friendly. * I've not incorporated pricing/value into my ratings here because, well, you can see the pricing online but you can't taste the food or experience the service, so I figure it's more helpful when reviews focus on the latter aspects :)
.An Unforgettable Dining Experience Dinner exceeded all expectations, the dishes were not only delicious but bursting with flavors that were truly incomparable. Each bite was a testament to culinary excellence. To top it off, the service was nothing short of phenomenal: attentive, warm, and seamless throughout the evening. A wonderful experience from start to finish!
We celebrated our anniversary dinner at Bombay Brasserie in the Taj Campton Hotel, and it was a remarkable experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely exquisite—special shoutout to the Bhel Chaat, which was an explosion of flavors, the Crab Soup, which was rich and comforting, and the Paan Drink, which was uniquely refreshing. The Coconut Cream Brûlée was the perfect way to end the meal—a delightful fusion of textures and flavors. The service was impeccable; the staff were incredibly professional, attentive, and friendly, ensuring every aspect of the evening was flawless. The ambience was enlightening and added a sophisticated charm to the celebration. A standout moment was when Chef Thomas personally came by to check in on us multiple times, which is such a rare and thoughtful gesture these days. This was an unforgettable dining experience, and we can’t wait to return for another celebration soon!

We stumbled upon The Bombay Brasserie and had an amazing experience! 😊 The Indian-French fusion menu caught our eye, but we needed some guidance. That's when Lilian came in – super knowledgeable and helpful in picking the perfect dishes. The Lamb biryani was aromatic, and the duck samosa had the perfect crunch! Loved the ambiance too - great vibe for a dinner date. Service was top-notch. If you're in the mood for something unique, go for it! 🌟
We visited Bombay Brasserie for my partner's birthday in November 2025. The food was incredible-- some of my favorites were the Fire Grilled Tandoori Salmon, the Ghee Roast Lobster and the Steak Au Poivre were beautifully presented, delicious examples of fusion done well. The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. Our server, David, had wonderful suggestions. Chef George Thomas stopped by our table as he greeted guests in the dining room that evening and it was a pleasure to share with him what a great time we were having. We'll definitely be returning and stopping by the bar before our reservation next time!
Bombay Brasserie truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we entered, we could feel the warmth and energy of the place — the ambience is vibrant yet comfortable, the food is beautifully presented, and the flavours are rich, layered and genuinely authentic without being overwhelming. A very special mention for Lilian — she was absolutely incredible. Attentive without being intrusive, genuinely warm, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. She helped us choose the perfect dishes based on our preferences and explained everything with so much enthusiasm that it made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Bombay Brasserie has left a deep impression. Amazing food, beautiful space, and exceptional service. Would happily return and would highly recommend
Absolutely amazing experience! Hands down the best Indian food in the Bay Area. The ambience was warm and inviting, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. We came here for a family birthday celebration, and Chef Thomas George went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The flavors, presentation, and overall experience were truly outstanding. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Came here for dinner and was honestly impressed across the board. The food hits that perfect balance of elevated Indian cuisine without losing bold, comforting flavors. Standouts for me were the crab duo (beautifully done), the chaat bites - especially the potato tikki and avocado bhel and the pan-fried kulcha with butter chicken, which was unreal. The butter chicken itself was rich, silky, and packed with flavor, and the mustard chili fish had a great kick without overpowering the dish. The lamb chops sizzler was another highlight - tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Service was attentive and warm, and the space feels upscale yet inviting. Definitely a place I’d come back to for both a special dinner or bringing friends who want a modern take on Indian food.
Phenomenal food, ambience, and service!! Our waitress was so knowledgeable and answered all my questions, the chef even came out to check on us multiple times, and everyone was sooo attentive. The food was so so flavorful and was worth the price!! Came for dinner and left super full

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant, thanks largely to the amazing service. Mario and Milly were outstanding — incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our visit. They made us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Their warm personalities and professionalism truly elevated the entire dining experience. It’s rare to find staff who care this much, and they absolutely deserve recognition. Highly recommended!
What an absolutely wonderful hotel! Every single person we encountered was so genuine and hospitable. We ate breakfast in the restaurant twice, and Milly was so kind and cheerful. I also enjoyed chatting with Gursharn. We would definitely stay here again. Great location, classy rooms, excellent food, and the best staff. I’d choose the Taj over a generic, big brand domestic hotel any day. Thank you for a great experience!

Bombay Brasserie is a great upscale Indian spot. The ambiance and atmosphere is very chic Indian and it has a very friendly and attentive service staff. The dishes on the menu are very unique and there are several fusion dishes too. The desserts are absolutely stunning and a treat to your taste buds. They also brought out a small birthday plate with chocolate cake pieces to celebrate a birthday in the party. They also provide a complimentary bread and papadum basket. I recommend making a reservation with them before visiting.
The flavors are great compared to what kind of Indian restaurants are around.. for me this is better than Rooh and Copra. It's a bit pricey, but if you're in the mood, or staying closeby and want some good Indian food... it's worth a try.
As an Indian, I can safely say this was a very satisfactory experience & just expected out of Taj. While the food isn’t mindblowing, it’s also worth a praise. The service is quick & gracious. The vibe is upscale. Tried the dal makhani, butter chicken, naan & aloo tikki. Besides the average tasting naan, everything else was tasty. Bombay Brasserie needs more recognition & foot traffic.
We went here for dinner and breakfast. Food is good overall but nothing wow yo remember. Yoghurt croquettes were worth trying. Lamb roganjosh was delicious. Disappointed with the dessert mango kulfi. Breakfast was decent with Akuri and crab Benedict.

Bombay Brasserie was near our friend's dress shopping location so we decided to have a special lunch here. We called in advance to make a reservation and fortunately, it wasn't busy at all when we arrived. We ordered a mix of items for the table including their biryani, dosa, salad, and other appetizers. The food took a while to come out but after it did, everything tasted great. It was all well-seasoned and it was clear they took their craft seriously. While the food was quite good and enough for the table, it was the confusing ordering system with the staff that made it a bit difficult. We were first told prior to coming that there were a la carte and vegan options to choose from their menu. Upon arrival, it looked like they only had a weekend brunch prix fare menu. We spoke to them and they allowed us to order a la carte from that specific menu. In regards to vegan friendly items, we ordered ones that were marked and even one that we asked to make vegan. When the dish came out, it was the wrong order so we had to ask for a new plate to be made. I think if they were clearer on the menu on their vegan items, that would make ordering a little easier and quicker.

We went to the restaurant as we had heard good reviews about it. Upon arrival, we placed an order and it took 50 mins just for the starters and we order kulcha with truffle but truffle had no taste or smell! Paneer was too dry to eat. Asked for extra chutney and the helper came with the marination paste they use before cooking instead of chutney! We did not like the service nor the food.

Staff are very courteous and professional. Location is great and the lobby entrance and reception desk very professional and helpful. Food quality and presentation were not good and need improvement. We went for a set menu New Year eve. Paneer was lumpy and dry. Man course koorma was bland, cold and looked like bunch of frozen mixed vegetables put into coconut milk. Poor presentation and low quality. Chef tried his best for the dessert carrot halwa. Overall, it wasn’t worth the hype nor the price. I would reflect on the overall qualiry and authenticity of food being served and make some significant changes. We went there thinking .. it is Taj and how can it go wrong … well. It did
Thoroughly disappointed with their brunch menu offerings. We’ve had really delicious food at this place multiple times last year, but this time was horrible. We had the vegetarian brunch pre-set 3-course meal and unfortunately not a single item was impressive. The food almost felt stale, like kept in freezer and re-heated. Even a mediocre egg bhurji at home tastes order of magnitude better, the nanzi was a joke, paneer tikka wraps tasted a week-old food like you get on flights. The desserts were let down too, the kulfi was watery n useless, chocolate lava was stale, and crepe tasted like from a cheap diner. Paid $200+ for 3, totally not worth it.
