Opinions de E&O Kitchen and Bar San Francisco
I love the vinyl vibes. I want to just walk around and look at all the attention to detail and decor. The old speckled hen is foamy and delicious. Totally miss drinking non IPAs. The mixed drink we got was meh because the rum was pretty sweet (thought it'd be a dark and stormy). Seems to host a bunch of parties and has a great outdoor crowd.
Their toasted cinnamon espresso martinis were amazing here! We needed a little pick me up after a long day of walking around. Interior is cool with the records and set up of dj table.
Loved the artisan drinks and vibes. The dj was great and loved the vibe. Great decor
vibey & cute spot! espresso martini was yummy, and $15 flat for cocktails is great price. can get a little noisy /loud depending on the DJ
Cocktails were fascinating (I had the toke Banana), the live music was great (I was there for a vinyl launch) and such a great vibe.
What a great new spot to enjoy some tasty cocktails and vinyls! The interior is so fun and chill - I love the decor/design and the bar is beautiful too! I walked in with my partner and we were welcomed right away - the folks there are friendly and make good drinks! For selfish reasons, I do like that this place is hidden in an alley and there aren't too many people lurking yet haha. But everyone should really head down here to enjoy a cocktail or two (or more), and listen to some vinyls! They don't have a cocktail menu yet but can probably make you something you like or whip something up for you based on your preferred liquor.
First time here, always a little worried going to a cocktail bar that the drinks will be overly sweet but was pleasantly surprised here that everything was not-too-sweet, while still being hella creative. Super cool record listening vibes, felt maybe 25-50% too loud though and table service would have been nice. Prices were super fair too! Always a treat to have draft cocktails
The bartender is talented and clearly values the art. If you need a quiet weekday getaway, the 2pm – 4pm window is perfect for a laid back cocktail. It picks up after 4:00pm, though not too crowded until later in the evening.
Came in and checked out Harlan records for the first time. This place was super cool and one of the more unique bars I’ve been to in the city. The music was an awesome vibe and the drinks were actually poured perfectly, and a reasonable price. Andrew was our bartender and was the chillest guy. He did an awesome job with the drink suggestions. Highly recommend checking this place out.
Unique drinks, espresso martini 7.8/10 it was too much on the coffee side for me. Overall good. Was not a fan of the dylan cocktail, i think its an acquired taste (if you like dry gin, then you might like it) good music.
We love going here. A small bar off the side alley near Union Square. The decor is old vinyl record motif, they have a dj who plays fun music, but not so loud that you can't talk. The drinks are fun, great variety and fun creative names. The bartenders are super friendly.
Great ambiance and great for. Green Curry, Beef & Garlic Noodles, and Corn Fritters were amazing. Great selection of sale and Asian beers. Can't wait to return here. It took us two attempts to eat here so a reservation is suggested. The first night they were very busy. If you found this review helpful, please hit the like button.
December 2025: It's been many many years since I have been here. Previously, the restaurant was the E&O Trading Company. Started with the black cod and dry fried green beans. Both were very tasty. Then decided to try more food and ordered the Indonesian fried rice and the prawn salad. Everything was very tasty 😋. I tried the iron ox IPA and the beer went well with the food. Will be back again for more delicious food.
E&O Kitchen totally surprised me in the best way. I didn’t expect the food to be this good—everything we tried was creative and full of flavor. The Shokupan was incredible, honestly some of the best I’ve had anywhere in the U.S.—soft, fluffy, and perfectly toasted. The corn fritters were amazing, and the butternut squash dumplings were rich and comforting without being heavy. Cocktails were great too! I had the El Samurai, which was super smooth and nicely balanced. Overall, every dish hit the spot. I’d 100% come back—E&O really delivers a fun and tasty dining experience. It’s conveniently located close to the sitter parking garage and close to union square.
E&O Survived the Apocalypse and My Waistline. 10/5 Stars if Google Would Let Me. I haven't been back in ten years. Honestly, I wasn't sure if E&O had survived the Great San Francisco Restaurant Cull of 2020, but not only is it standing, it's thriving—probably powered by pure, unadulterated Indonesian Corn Fritter energy. These fritters are so ridiculously good they should come with a warning label. They’re soft, they’re crispy, and they hit that perfect spot of savory, sweet, and comforting. I almost ordered a second round just to ensure the first batch wasn't a delicious hallucination. Then came the Vegan Dandan (made spicy upon request, thanks to the kitchen gods). This wasn't just a good vegan dish; this was the star of the show. It had all the flavor and fire you could want, without any of the compromise. Seriously, I'm still sweating slightly, but I have zero regrets. (They deserve major props for how easily they adapted almost everything for my vegetarian/vegan requests!) I consider myself a person with restraint. I am sensible. I rarely overeat. But tonight, I threw all decorum out the window and ate until I needed a team of professionals to roll me out. It was worth every single calorie. The service was stellar, too. All servers constantly checked in, likely to ensure I hadn't passed out face-first into the Dandan. This place isn't just a restaurant; it’s a time machine and a culinary masterpiece. Do yourself a favor, try the fritters, try the Dandan, and maybe bring a pair of emergency stretch pants. You'll need them. 10/5, no notes!
Connected with a few colleagues for dinner here. It had been many years since I had been here but I remembered that the service and food was really good. Well they did not disappoint. The service was really great and they took really good care of us. The food was as great as I remembered. It was late so we got a few dishes that we could share. We had the Naan with Minced Lamb, Salt and Pepper Calamari, Minced Chicken with Lettuce cups. Pad Thai (with Shrimp), Roasted Black Cod, and the Corn Fritter Bites. Everything was really great but the Roasted Black Cod, and the Corn Fritter Bites were the stars of the show. The atmosphere was great and the drinks were really good also. Next time I am in SF I will definitely will come back.
Our journey to The Philippine Consulate General led us to the delightful E & O Kitchen and Bar many years ago, and we’ve been hooked ever since! The flavors and aromas have remained consistently amazing, if not even better. Plus, the service is impressively quick, and the staff are warm and friendly, making every visit feel special. I wholeheartedly recommend E & O Kitchen and Bar – it’s an experience you absolutely don’t want to miss!
Food was delicious. Friend and I split the butternut squash dumplings, brussel sprouts, and the indonesian fried rice. It was ~$65 and the portions were reasonable and we had leftovers. Service was fast and restaurant noise was mostly a dull hum but did have a few loud moments when it got busier. Will be back on my next visit for sure!
E & O is always a good time! Warning: do NOT go here when you're hungry because you will be tempted to order the entire menu. Everything is THAT good! I've attended holiday parties here in the past but recently went for dinner with a friend and it was just as amazing, possibly more because I was actually able to sit and eat instead of socializing. The bartenders were all super sweet (we sat at the bar) and the hostess was extremely helpful in helping us navigate the restaurant (I was walking with a cane at the time). A must-have is the corn fritters for sure, I've never been disappointed with them. Or anything else on the menu for that matter. Other restaurants could learn a few things from E&O about customer service and quality. Not to mention the aesthetic is gorgeous!
I liked the food a lot. Chicken satay is OK. Steak good, but marination was too much. Flavor was OK. Mushroom satay was good. Ribs were very flavorful and pork buns were simple and delicious. Cod.... . It was amazing. I will definitely go back for the cod. Banana roll was OK. I would prefer dryer (less syrup).

What a surprise. Looking for lunch and this was handy. The Prosperity salad was amazing. Loved everything we had. Nice atmosphere and good service.
Good vibes. I got the green room, which tasted like cream soda with a hint of pandas. I appreciated the asian twist. The inside was nice. There’s a mini band in the back. When there’s a session going on, you can’t really talk as it gets really loud. Otherwise it’s a good setup for some drinks.
The Mai Tea cocktails here straight up tasted like juice. They weren’t super strong, as I didn’t feel anything after drinking mine, so it’s possible they were mostly juice. Still, they tasted quite good. They have a live DJ, which is great for setting the vibe, but it’s really loud, and there are tables scattered all over the floor, so this place isn’t exactly conducive to chatting or dancing. I think it’s the perfect lounge to stop by for about 30 minutes during a bar hop, just enough time to absorb the positive high energy from the mixed sounds.
Lovely little hole-in-the-wall bar tucked in a back alleyway in Chinatown! It can be a smidge hard to find the main entrance to this spot in the back alleys, but it's 100% worth the treasure hunt. The space is super cozy and intimate, with phenomenal music (especially if you manage to catch them on a night with live music). It can get pretty crowded, but they also have a wonderful outdoor space outfitted with a cute wooden awning, plenty of tables and chairs, and a cute string light set-up. The outdoor space is a perfect extension of the indoor vibes, but definitely a little bit quieter if you prefer a calmer atmosphere that's easier for chatting. The bartenders are all super friendly; they helped us select our drinks and loaned us a phone charger (saving us from potential disaster). They, unfortunately, slightly over-pivoted on my request to make a sweeter cocktail and recommended The Green Room; it was tasty but definitely too sweet for me. The vibes were phenomenal and the other cocktails looked lovely, though, so I'm sure I'll be back to try out some of their other options.
Really delicious cocktails and nice service. However we were looking for a fun vibe for random daytime cocktails and it was pretty empty here at 2pm. Again, this was a random time to get cocktails and they were very well made but if you are looking for a lively weekday drinking vibe, this may not be it. We will return during normal hours though because drinks were delicious and definitely feel like it could be great!!
🍸 🍺 🕺 Fun, lively cocktail bar with good music. It’s a big space with bar seating, tables, and room to dance! They have lots of interesting cocktails as well as other options.
Such a great new find in the city! I love the chill and relaxed vibe. I tried the Old 45 served by Will and it was a solid drink. This is a place I'll come back to just because of the atmosphere it provided. The place is still working out some kinks but I think it'll get up to speed quick!
E&O Kitchen and Bar is a great spot with a cool, lively vibe that fits perfectly with its Union Square location. The space feels energetic but comfortable, making it an easy place to settle in and enjoy your time. The food was really good, and we tried a variety of dishes. Everything came out well prepared and flavorful, which made sharing and tasting multiple items a fun part of the experience. The menu has a nice range, so there’s something for different tastes. Service was solid throughout the meal. We had reservations, which I always recommend anywhere you go in San Francisco even if it doesn’t seem necessary. It made the whole experience smoother and stress-free. E&O Kitchen and Bar delivers good food, a fun atmosphere, and reliable service. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Union Square area.
I visited this place to attend a work event, so this isn’t a full restaurant review, but more of a reflection on their event-hosting experience. The party was held upstairs, hosted by one of our partners. The space was lively and packed with people. I headed to the bar and asked the bartender for a recommendation—he seemed knowledgeable and helped me pick out a wine that turned out to be decent. As for the food, a variety of appetizers and snacks were laid out, mostly Asian fusion in style. Unfortunately, by the time I got to them, many of the items had gone cold, which was disappointing. In a well-run restaurant, I would expect food to be kept warm or replenished regularly during an event. That said, the shiitake mushroom dumplings were a highlight—flavorful and well-made. Some of the other offerings were just okay. Another issue was the lack of serving utensils—there weren’t enough spoons or tongs, which made the buffet setup feel a bit unorganized. The staff also didn’t replenish the food quickly, which further impacted the experience. Overall, while the food quality seemed promising, the event service felt a bit underwhelming. I’d still be curious to return for a regular dining experience, as I believe the kitchen has potential.
I have been eating at E&O for several occasions, but have not written a review (and is long overdue). I recently had a group lunch, and we sat at the long table near the front entrance window. Our male server was efficient, attentive and focused our group needs. We ordered and shared various dishes: - Spring Rolls (3 long pieces) - Indonesian Corn Fritters (5 pieces) served with sweet chili soy sauce, one of my co-workers favored. - Green Curry Chicken with green beans: thick curry paste and more spicy (even though it has coconut milk). It was more spicy than I would like. - Dumpings: I personally preferred Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings over Butternut Squash Dumplings, both have 5 pieces. We also tried three desserts: - Brown Butter Coconut “B’ingka” ($12.00): Philippine dessert cake bibingka tasted little dry. - Ginger Spiced Cookies ($11.00 for 4 pieces): simple but delicious - Pineapple Coconut Cake ($13.00): Though relatively small, I liked it as it was balance with pineapple jam with coconut cream cheese. We will be back.

Food was bland and undercooked especially the chicken satay. The beef ramen was barely palatable. For the price point you can do a lot better in the city.

On Saturday, May24,2015. My family and I made our way into the Harlen Records as they opened the doors at 4pm. We had drinks, sat and enjoyed the music. After an hour or so I asked to close the tab and the bartender handed me a bill and said thanks , come again. I said is this my copy or yours, where do I sign. Well, I guess this bartender was hoping I would leave the tab open so that he could apply a hefty tip at the end of his shift. Patrons beware, this is so shady. See the picture of the bartender.
12 days on vacation in Vegas, Tahoe, and SF. Dozens of restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels, etc. I received poor service only twice (10/3 & 10/4), and both times were at Harlan Records - from the same bartender. In fact, this guy appeared to be a manager or maybe even the owner. Made me feel like I was inconveniencing him whenever I ordered a drink. The other staff were great, but this guy's vibe was the low point of my entire trip. Do better.
I returned solo to E&O after being there awhile back with my team. That previous experience of sampling several dishes, from interesting green beans to specialty nan, to perfectly cooked and seasoned beef ribs, to all the dumplings was super memorable. Tonight, I ordered a couple of dishes, with intention of ordering a couple more to take out at my family's request. Great service....and not so great food: A plain nan dripping in butter and topped with something green sprinkled all over the top (sent back), a mushroom noodle dish that had five little mushroom pieces, tons of veggies (the tough parts you'd toss), and tons of soy sauce. No distinguishable sauce or spices. Saltiness that brought a thirst for hours. It could have been Chinese food in a can. Then, delicious mushrooms in mushroom dumplings that had not been cooked enough. So, the dumpling casing was chewy, pasty. My family wanted the interesting fries, until I was told they potatoes are frozen, not fresh. Was that the same with the green beans? I didn't get an answer. Just a smile. The service was the best part, with a smile. That's not the reason we dine out. Great service and mediocre food is a losing combination....as in losing this family's desire to return.
We tried E&O tonight and ordered 4 dishes. While the starters were strong, the entrees were disappointing. The flavor was extremely one note, and portion sizes could be better. I can cook better entrees than what this restaurant offers. It’s embarrassing for us to ask for salt and pepper from an Asian fusion restaurant because there’s no flavor in their risotto…The snow peas in my dish weren’t even prepped properly, so I had to peel off the inedible string bits myself. Our server wasn’t the most attentive, so I didn’t even have enough water during my meal to wash down all the oil in my noodle dish. This place has the potential to be so much more, but unfortunately for us, we won’t be back.
We had such a fun time at this spot! The service was super quick and the vibe was really cool and upbeat. We were in a hurry to get to another event, but the staff made sure we got served fast. Now, about the food – it was okay, nothing too special. Some of the flavors didn't quite hit the spot for us. But the portions were good, especially the small plates. I wasn't a huge fan of the celebrated corn fritters, though. They just didn't do it for me. Overall, we had a lovely time here. If they tweak the recipes a bit, it could be even better! Here’s the parking lot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FWBhi8UWCy9tqEKg6?g_st=ic

We had a good dinner at E&O. Good size dishes and really tasty. We loved the papaya salad, it was yummy. prices were pretty okay.
I was excited to try E&O after reading several rave reviews. Sadly, my experience fell far short of positive. We were seated quickly, then waited ten minutes for someone to notice that we were there and needed water. The guy who brought us water also took our order. It was a functional interaction at best: he was no waiter and made no efforts to welcome us nor to discuss the menu. We then waited as others were seated after us and got their meals. We had to ask another server to check on our food, which he did and it arrived shortly thereafter. The chicken sandwich was tasty and the pad Thai was above average; however, the blackened cod was a disaster. I shared it with my wife and found 14 bones in my half-portion. I felt like a caveman picking bones out of my mouth with every bite. I had to insist that the staff take that (expensive) plate off of our tab; while they did, the institutional service quality and the serving of that awful dish merit no more than two stars. I will never eat there again.

Rude staff, was made to feel the limited availability of drinks was somehow my fault and I inconvenienced them. Not cool / bad vibes. Bar tender provided the incorrect beer, after charging me for the different one. Scammy. Poor sound quality and hard to hear the music. For a listening lounge concept, they are missing the mark on all aspects. I recommend Irish Bank next door or Rickhouse instead.
