Awesome prices and great food. I enjoyed the glass of plume wine. I ordered the bento box, which was fantastically priced and had meat, rice, salad, miso soup, sashimi, tempura, and gyoza for $20. What a wonderful offer and the staff are very kind.
I had a pretty good time in here. We went twice while visiting and both time left happy. I thought the service was odd at times missing miso soup. Unsure if we needed to ask but other than that was good.
Went to this restaurant on strength of reviews. It did not disappoint! The food was, in a word, awesome. Absolutely great beef amiyaki and beef sukiyaki. The regulars seem to prefer sushi. Some special seasoning to the white rice - sake or rice vinegar maybe - it tasted great. Staff was not unfriendly. Rather, the place was packed, people lined up out the door. They're pressed for time, probably all the time day-in day-out. This was a better restaurant than others we - out-of-state tourists - went to in SF at twice and three times the price.
Excellent Japanese food at very reasonable prices.
I love Fujiyama-Ya. It is such a great no frills Japanese restaurant with a ton of great offerings. The beef amiyaki is amazing and their combos are very reasonably priced. Their rolls are good and their sashimi is very fresh. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone! This restaurant has been around a very long time and for good reason.
This restaurant is unassuming and amazing. The food is unbelievable for what you get and pay. It has a very quaint vibe and there is not music playing so loudly you can't speak with the people you are with. Please don't go, I like this hidden gem and want to be able to keep getting in!
We know this place as Auntie Esther's as one of the wait staff is amazing! She has seen my kids grow up. The food is consistent and priced right. I love their steak amiyaki. It does sell out.
We tried soft shell crabs (aight, wouldn’t get it again), chirashi (tasty fish, but kinda hard to share while shivering in a park) and Alaskan, Philadelphia and rock n roll makis (so delicious! Next time we’ll definitely just get these x2). Such delicious sushi for a great price, I highly recommend it.
And I just wanted to add that Ester is amazing she can handle that busy place all by herself and at the same time making everyone feel special.I've been going here since the '80s it's as good now as it was then they are so friendly and if you have any questions they're willing to take the time and tell you everything you need to know they make you feel right at home and the prices aren't bad I would recommend going to Fujiyama believe me you want to go back. Everything is so delicious and so fresh.
If you really looking home cooking feelinv of the Japanese cuisine, look no more.. this is the place where you will feel welcome and treat like family by their staff and owner. It is affordable price as well.
Good affordable sushi but a small restaurant means some decently long wait times. Best value for sushi that I've ever seen. Awesome combinations that you can pick and choose or go for the cheap but tasty rolls.
This was my local haunt when my girlfriend and I lived up the street from here. Great friendly survive and good food at good prices. I usually got the beef donburi and whatever sushi I was in the mood for and my girlfriend always got the chicken katsu. The food is always consistently good. This place does get busy during the weekend.
Open late on Sundays when most other places are closed in the area. Sushi was very reasonably priced and satisfying. The tea was loose leaf and not from a bag which we prefer. Service was everything I expected and it has a cozy homey vibe. No frills, no pomp, but what I was looking for.
I like it here, the taste is very good. Before starting our ordered meal, they gave us a free soup that we really enjoy drinking. The avocado on top of the caterpillar roll is very fresh. We will come back again.
Great rolls, great prices, beautiful interior despite small space. On my first visit, I decided to get some avocado rolls and I found this restaurant. I paid $8.60 for two avocado maki rolls, each roll being six pieces. The avocado was ripe and the rolls were a good size. If you decide to visit this restaurant, you should dine-in. This restaurant does to-go orders, but they're really dine-in oriented. On a different visit, I dined in and had the chicken donburi, California roll, and mushroom roll. The chicken donburi was filling, the California roll was wonderful, but the mushroom roll was extremely salty. My total was $21.55 before tax. This restaurant has great prices and great food, which is why I recommend checking it out.
The pricing is so affordable and the portion is great. The food is not amazing because it is lack of seasoning, it is more like a family japanese restaurant and the menu has good varieties. The sushi rolls is the best.
Locally owned, friendly owners with great quality sushi at affordable prices! I really enjoy their sukiyaki and they also have a three item bento box for a very reasonable price $20 after tax and tip includes teriyaki, sashimi, tempura, gyoza, salad and rice! Come enjoy!
I love this place and it's been consistently delightful over a dozen or so visits. Excellent sushi and lovely staff.
Very fresh, tasty sushi. On a Friday night we had to wait a while to get a seat and get our food. But all done in a friendly manner.
Great little sushi spot in sunset. Dining room is small so there can be a wait during peak hours. Staff is always friendly. Fish is always fresh.

Favorite sushi place in the city. Fresh fish at a good price
We truly enjoy the authentic and classic sushi, sashimi and rolls. You can also satisfy your urgings with combinations of teriyaki, tempura, the house special bento box, hand rolls. The sizzling beef or chicken amiyaki is a crowd pleaser! We return weekly, with friends and family and are never diaappointed. Great staff and a warm environment.

Get here early, Fujiyama-Ya gets packed quickly. It's small space, while intimate, causes crowds to wait outside in the cold and foggy Sunset. But there is good cause for the wait - consistent Japanese food. Nothing over the top, and a solid staff who do a good job serving their customers. Nothing about its menu makes it stand out to be sure; however, it is the consistency and lack of a need for a "wow" factor makes Fujiyama-Ya the solid restaurant it is.
I ordered Rainbow Rolls & unagi (eel) sushi.$9.95 for eight pieces. Pretty good portion and fresh raw sashimi on the top. Only complaint is that the soy sauce provided is not for sushi but regular soy sauce. It was so salty that I could barely eat it.
It was good. I got House Bento Box (Beef Teriyaki + Combo Tempura + Sashimi + Gyoza). I thought the teriyaki sauce was too goopy and thick for the thin slices of meat - like it haf too much corn starch in it. Otherwise the Tempura and Sashimi and Gyoza was good.
Fujiyama serves an Americanized menu. You know, the bento boxes, the teriyaki dishes and the sushi rolls etc. Tonight, I had an urge to get some saba (mackerel) ($12) and shrimp tempura $7. The food wasn't bad. The shrimp tempura had a good crispy and crumby batter. But the shrimp tasted powdery. The saba tasted ok. It wasn't great. I'm not sure why they served it with orange slices. Usually, I like mine a bit salted with some lemon and perhaps some grated daikon radish. I did like how they served teriyaki sauce on the side. Sweet teriyaki sauce served on top would have ruined that grilled salty saba taste. Service wasn't bad. I wasn't served tea or checked on after my food arrived as they were pretty busy. The food did come out in a reasonable amount of time. My tab with a large beer was $35 with tax and tip. I'm glad they were open and the little old women working is still doing it after all these year. Good for her.
A “hole in the wall” that serves good sized portions and good food. -Beef Teriyaki & Unagi teriyaki combo: the beef was plentiful and tender I got more than I was expecting. That’s always a plus! The unagi was a huge piece that came sizzling to the table. Melted like butter, make sure to pair with rice as there are a few bones. -Chicken Katsu: lightly battered crispy pieces of chicken. Portion size was perfect.
happy to have stumbled upon this place. the rolls were good, sashimi fresh, and fried things used a beer-like batter that was more doughy / golden crispy rather than the thinner crumbly style — karaage had some tenderized meat inside instead of large chunks of thigh which was unexpected but interesting. the gomae and agedashi tofu were generous. overall, nice home-y japanese mom n pop serving a bunch of classics, humble and satisfying for a casual dinner date.
Yummy sushi and decent prices. Nothing fancy, but good! The avocado in the rolls was hard; otherwise fresh fish and nice service.
Nice cozy place. Gets busy everytime I come here. One comment is Hard to find the place, because the canopy with the name of the business is blank. Just remember 1234 Noriega. There's metered parking in front and the chase bank corner of 19th ave and Noriega. That's how I found the place.

Affordable and good for the most part. The creamy spicy sauce is overly spicy and doesn’t come with a heads up for those less tolerant. The sunset roll has cream cheese in it which isn’t my cup of tea - again with no heads up in the menu.
Cute, small restaurant with about six tables. Mix of apps, sushi, sashimi, and full meals (udon, tempura, katsu, etc.) Highlights: - beef amiyake: tender, comes out sizzling on the cast iron plate, delicious sauce - house tea: seemed to be a genmaicha variety with toasted rice, nice light flavor - pickled ginger: generous portions that came out on each plate, I appreciate this as I love ginger - I asked for a side of onion for my sushi and they were very prompt and generous about bringing it out - nigiri had generous amounts of fish that overhang the rice; fish tastes fresh Lowlights: - spicy tuna and dynamite rolls are SUPER SPICY. I literally couldn’t eat more than three rolls before my mouth was on fire - of you don’t handle spicy well, watch out for anything that has the spicy sauce - sunset roll contains cream cheese, which is not disclosed on the menu. I don’t believe cream cheese belongs in sushi so was taken aback when it came out with it. Please write down all of the ingredients in your rolls, it’s important your guests know what’s on them when there’s only five or six ingredients - Two ladies running the FOH were nice but very busy with take out orders while we waited almost 10mins for them to take our order. Once it got less busy they were more attentive, but they could use another server Am still trying to find my “go to” sushi restaurant in the area, will keep looking until I can find a menu I can trust and rolls I can handle the spice level of.
The food overall was okay. I would recommend avoiding the teriyaki dishes--the thick gooey syrupy sauce was unappetizing.

Completely disappointed! Chicken teriyaki was overcooked and dry, and it definitely didn’t taste like teriyaki, plus it had a thick, thick gooey looking sauce. Gyoza was over fried and dry. Sushi was so so. Prices were reasonable but I’d prefer to pay for quality and enjoy my meal than pay for a meal you could not enjoy. Thoroughly disappointing experience. Service disappointing as well; the ladies were overwhelmed and need support. They served people before us; we had to stop them after st least 25 minutes. Didn’t control the order and forgot to bring us what we ordered. If there were anither server, service would be better…and maybe the food. Worst Japanese food I’ve ever had.
It was my first time visiting this place after putting my name down on the whiteboard we waited for like over half an hour. After we got seated, placed the orders, the food was served but no hot tea and plates ready, had to ask for them. Their service is ok, but there’s only one old lady who understands English, the other lady doesn’t seem to understand what we needed, and even gave us the wrong order. Our families are all picky eaters have higher standards for food, so we thought the sushi was mid, wasn’t cut clean. The sashimi wasn’t fresh and not recommended ordering them, the tempura was good. Won’t come back.
The soup was tasty. That's the best I can say. I ordered a tuna/yellow tail roll and once it arrived (10 minutes after my husband's food arrived) it appeared very dry and thin. I tried the first piece of tuna, started chewing and spit it out. It was so fishy and chemically tasting in addition to being dry. This was certainly not fresh fish. I've been to 100s of sushi places and never have I experienced this scary quality of food. By scary I mean that if I had swallowed it, I might have been food poisoned. I called our server and told her that it tastes terrible and even though I apologized for having to return it, she just looked at me and said ok. I then ordered a salmon roll and it was better. The place was busy and I couldn't understand why everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. I realized that most customers were eating menu items other than sushi such as tempura and tonkatsu. So maybe this just isn't the place for sushi. Maybe they just don't sell the fish fast enough. The sushi preparer should not have plated my food. Any amateur could see how dry and lackluster it was even prior to tasting it.

Second visit here, unfortunately I need to leave a negative review. We waited for over an hour, but that wasn’t too bad. The issue is that the proprietor let a group of twelve cut 3 other groups in line. One of the groups left shortly after being seated because the food was far backed up. That being said, the food was also of low quality. Sushi race was slightly undercooked, and the fish ingredients were slimy. I can’t recommend this place, and I wish this review could be more positive.
new management. Food quality is not the same. Asked for a spoon for soup. Was told by owner to just bring the bowl to my face.
If we could give this place zero stars, we would. Visited this restaurant for the first time last night (7/15/2023), and we’ll never go back again. When ordering we specifically asked that we be served our gyoza, an appetizer, first. The server nodded, “Okay.” The gyoza came last after all our other food had been set on the table and we had started eating. The miso soup was okay, but the pathetic “salad” was chunks of iceberg lettuce with dressing dolloped over the top. My beef teriyaki was thin slices of beef (that’s fine) but covered with a thick, gooey overly-sweet sauce. The tempura crust was tasteless, and there were way too many items in the “serving” of tempura. The bill was only about $40.00 for the two of us, including two sodas, but a “bargain price” isn’t worth it when quality of both food and service are subpar. Sorry, but we can’t recommend this place.
Doesn't look attractive, can't be a trained Japanese sushi chef as ingredients are too big, veined, poorly cut, poorly assembled, appear not well cleaned, poorly plated, I'm Japanese-American with a sushi chef nephew.
I'd give it 0 stars if google allowed it. My first time ordering, I got a chirashi and the fish tasted weird. Just not fresh. It was packed so awfully it looked like a child's school lunch. Decided to give them a second shot, this time, I went to the restaurant. They're clearly understaffed, and the waitress just seemed to be in an awful mood. Ordered two different sushi rolls, which she couldn't even get right, my "order" comes, and both rolls are definitely something I didn't order. I kindly ask her to take them back as it is not what I asked for, she rips the plate off my hand, runs to the kitchen, and comes back with the same plate (which had been sitting in front of me for 10 minutes) and brings it to the guys next to us, lol. Basically pretended it didn't happen and completely unhygienic. I was sooo tempted to letting these customers know. Anyways my food arrives and of course she got it wrong once again, but oh well, I'm hungry, I'll let it slide once again. Whoops, it tastes awful. As expected. It's a shame I wasted my money once again. Anyways, reconsider if you want to go to this place!
Disappointing Experience – Poor Service & Not Fresh Food I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt it was necessary in this case. I was really looking forward to trying this Japanese restaurant, but unfortunately, it was a big letdown. First of all, the service was extremely poor—unfriendly staff who seemed uninterested and inattentive. We had to wait a long time just to place our order, and even longer for the food to arrive. When the food finally came, it was far from fresh. The sashimi tasted off, the rice was dry, and the presentation was sloppy. For a place that advertises itself as an authentic Japanese experience, it completely missed the mark. With so many great Japanese restaurants around, I honestly don’t recommend wasting your time or money here. There are much better options with fresh food and respectful service.
do yourself a favor, don’t come here. this sushi joint isn’t the same anymore when it was run by our favorite server. the new servers here are very rude. yesterday we got yelled at just from a simple request. after being seated and waited and ignored, we walked out of there and will never comeback. as a customer for over two decades, we won’t becoming back
We visited this restaurant just today [9/07/25 ], and unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience due to the staff’s attitude. From the moment we arrived, we were met with indifference and a lack of basic courtesy. One staff member in particular seemed irritated when we asked a spoon and the way she answered she's rude! And the same lady that gave us attitude before! She really had a bad attitude! The food was decent, but the unfriendly service really overshadowed the meal. Hospitality is a big part of the dining experience, and I hope the management addresses this issue. We were 9 people and she gave attitude to my children too!
