Opinions de Hilda and Jesse San Francisco
The restaurant feels just like one of those places you see in a movie — where people eat with joy and abundance. Something that’s becoming harder to find these days. This restaurant manages to deliver both quality and generous portions, creating a truly delicious feast. I hadn’t eaten food this good in years. I even thought it didn’t exist anymore. But it does. And it’s right here.
Ive been to Rome and Naples, and the dishes served, the ambiance, style of service, and even the setting of the restaurant remind me of my short time in Italy. I RARELY leave reviews, but I would hate for someone visiting SF to miss out on this taste of Italy. prices were very reasonable (im from the midwest) and its just far enough away from the busy/touristy part of the street. We had the fried calamari and shrimp app (pictured), de la mare pasta, the gambaroni pasta (pictured) and genovese pasta (shortened names). All around 5 star experience.
We actually ended up here after originally being turned away at another restaurant that was closing, but after eating here we were all happy we showed up too late to eat elsewhere. I had the pizza special (as seen in the picture), with my colleagues also getting a mix of pasta and pizza. Those of us that had pizza remarked that it is one of the best pizzas we've ever tasted (and I love my pizza). The members of the group who ordered pasta were equally as impressed with the texture and flavour of the pasta with a small complaint that the fettucine was slightly on the bland side. The decor was pretty standard for an Italian restaurant. Service was a little on the slower side, but the place was packed so that's to be expected. Would definitely recommend for Italian food!
The food, the atmosphere and the service is great! We had such a memorable time for our son’s 31st birthday and our 34yr anniversary!! They even sang happy birthday in Italian!! It was so wonderful!!
Great ambience! Enjoyed our experience - excellent service, food was excellent. Will definitely recommend. Our group came here for a conference and checked this out on the internet and was extremely impressed. Lovely evening! Dine in. I had the Caprese con Pomodorini - fresh ingredients, and arugula salad for an appetizer. The best! We shared the crème brûlée lemon - OMG - so good!
I brought Sebastopol Seniors from the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church to have lunch here before a visit to Coit Tower. Everyone was very happy with their food choices.
The outdoor patio is very spacious and lively. The best part, it's dog friendly. There are about 10 vegetarian options on the menu, but they're not clearly marked, so ask your waiter. I got the meat lasagna, it was home made and delicious! I found out later there is a veggie version, so I will definitely be back!
Hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. Food was fresh, hot and made from scratch! Staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. I will absolutely be back! *I keep coming back for more and the sausage pizza and Pappardelle are by far my favorite! I love grabbing a pizza and sitting in the park across the street.
I found this place to be excellent, great pasta. There was no long cues / crazy touristy pressure to get a table. Being located away from the touristy part of little italy made this place very relaxed.
The prosciutto pizza was amazing! Flavor and crust texture was spot on. My husband and I split the pizza and it was plenty of food. Our kids had the cheese pizza and spaghetti with meatballs. They enjoyed it. They probably could've shared one kids' meal instead of two. They are (almost) 5 and 7.
This is a simply fabulous place to meet friends & enjoy excellent Italian food. The menu is extensive. Having eaten here more than a dozen times I can report that everything is well prepared, generously portioned and delicious. Service is perfect, friendly & attentive. Highly recommended!
Had the buffet at Madras Idli Kadai and it was an amazing experience! The variety of South Indian thali items in the buffet was impressive – everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The highlight for me was the sweet dish – absolutely delicious! If you're craving authentic South Indian flavors in a buffet style, this place is definitely worth trying
Recommend steak with onion sauce and asparagus. Red sauce is delicious! Chicken parmesan excellent! The Alfredo sauce is bland. Greek salad had too much pepper. Overall, great service and atmosphere! Would go back regularly if I lived here!
This was not our first choice for Italian in the Little Italy section of San Francisco. We saw it and the menu and abandoned our first choice. We were glad we did! Everything about this restaurant is authentic and delicious! The Lasagna, Chicken Parmesan, and Chicken Marsala were well prepared and seasoned. We also tried the Bread Pudding and Crostada. They were both fresh and amazing!
Delicious Italian food. This was our first time visiting this restaurant and we would definitely visit again. We were seated immediately and given some recommendations by the waiter. The food is wonderful with an abundance of choice, but I suggest you have the seafood spaghetti as it was amazing. Lots of drinks available with a nice atmosphere. Highly recommend!
This place is super fun. A little pricey but such a great patio and lots of options for food. I love the location you’re still in the hustle and bustle of north beach but away from all the tourist. I can only speak to the patio space but it was such a great vibe. Easy to seat the 8 of us that was there and lots of fun. Would come back again.
Was going to a show at Cobb's and came here for a quick bite. Burger was very good! Staff was quick and attentive! Lasagna is great too. Will be back to try their other dishes!
The PIZZA PELLEGRINI pizza we ordered was a little salty, but the cheese on it was very delicious. We also ordered a shrimp noodle which called FETTUCCINE FRA DIAVOLO was really delicious. I recommend everyone to order it.
Piazza Pellegrini in North Beach (659 Columbus Ave) generally earns solid praise for its authentic Italian charm, welcoming vibe, and hearty portions—though there are a few contrasting opinions worth noting.
Great location. The food was amazing! The red sauce lasagna/linguine al pesto combo was delicious.
We found this restaurant on the way to the Coit Tower. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The pastas were very good. I remember that the Alfredo Pasta was very tasty and flavorful. The Fetuccini Bolognase was meaty and tasted really good. The bread was tasty and the soup had some type of bread and gnocchi in it. We liked the outdoor sitting, it is right across to a park.
I ate outside and it was great to have food and people watch. I had the Pizza Pellegrino which was prosciutto, arugula, and burrata cheese and Italian chardonnay. The food was excellent. The service was great and the staff was welcoming and polite.

It had been a long day and after searching for a quick bit to grab we stumble upon Piazza. Best decision to eat there. We sat outside with the view of the church and had the best Gnocchi with an amazing spritz.
This restaurant is perfect for anyone. Wow, what great service, food and atmosphere. I took a group of 24 people and they were ready with a beautiful table, our orders were easy, quick and timely. I can't say anything but wonderful. Julio and the rest of the staff were so delightful and helpful. I will go here all the time when I am in the city and will recommend it. I went for my birthday with a group of friends last night, and everything was amazing! Our waiter Edgardo was attentive and gave great recommendations on what we should have for dinner. They even brought me a piece of the best tiramisu I’ve ever had and sang birthday happy birthday to me ❤️ I believe all of their pastas are handmade in house and you can tell. I had gnocchi with Gorgonzola and sausage. For appetizers, we had the calamari and shrimp, Caprese salad, & bruschetta. All delicious. Highly recommend this place! They also have a very nice outside area for sunny days in the city.
We found this place because it was on our tour route. I had the gnocchi marinara, my husband the chicken parm and my son the chicken Marsala. This is top tier Italian food. We are from NJ and are no strangers to delicious Italian. This is right up there! Will definitely be back on our next trip. Bonus: all three of us had the tiramisu for dessert. THE BEST tiramisu ever.
Beautiful location in the north end with delicious pasta and a wonderful white staff. This is a place to come when you want ti spend an hour and a half eating dinner and enjoying the atmosphere. It's just wonderful.

We spotted this restaurant while rushing our way to cover as many attractions in San Francisco as possible before our flight back. This restaurant is just right by the roadside surrounded by other fantastic Italian restaurant. The sauce from meatball fettuccine is fantastic and out of this world and the gnocchi is absolutely amazing. Perfect to pair with a carafe of red wine. I would suggest you to pick the outdoor seat if you love to watch the local's daily routine/ walk. :)
Espresso ($4) and Tiramisu ($12) wasnt great, they put too much chocolate and whipping cream on the tiramisu; Probably their other dishes are better.
Always saw this place as I walked by Colombus Ave and it looked so much fun with their cute outside seating area. I'm talking about the outside section way in the back where the Cafe is! We came here Pride Sunday chilling and having rose wine which was delightful. Service is friendly and hassle free. Comfortable seating and very casual. Fun place to enjoy on a sunny day! Not super crowded either
Food was amazing. I ordered the ravioli with pesto sauce, my kids had the pepperoni pizza and my husband had the (forgot the name of the plate sorry) but it had shrimp /fettuccine. All was delicious. The service was basically self served. You have to get your own drinks/no refills. They bring you your food but no providing of bread to eat while you wait for your food. We sat at the patio section which in late December is pretty cold but they do have heaters above, and they played good music.
Quaint little authentic shop with an 'old world feel' risotto was amazing! Kids Pizza was really great, but honestly, the Spaghetti and meatballs was the star at our table! The marinara was delicious! Crostini was divine and fresh. I think I woukd choose somewhere else next time, with kids, but it didn't disappoint.

I ordered the Margherita pizza and Caprese salad. The tomatoes in the Caprese salad were regular field tomatoes, sliced. So fairly bland. And the basil was chopped, something I don't tend to do -- I realize there are different ways to prepare and present basil, though. I think they must have brought the wrong pizza, since it was just cheese and tomato sauce. I figured it was an American Italian style at the time, and said nothing. I was also really tired and hungry, and I didn't want to bother with asking to send the food back. In retrospect, however, the people at the table next to me had ordered a pizza that did look like a very tasty Margherita, complete with a bubbly thin crust, so I do think it was just the wrong pizza. The atmosphere is really nice, though, and the head waiter was quite polite.
The servers were nice- very attentive. I ordered the angel hair pasta just to try a basic dish at the space. I liked it but I can't say it was memorable 🤷
Over the years, Cafe Pellegrini has been a decent spot for me, but this recent visit was a letdown. We chose to sit outside since the weather was lovely, and their patio is pretty nice – enclosed, with different seating choices, and a TV for sports fans, which makes it good for both groups and couples. I ordered a Peroni, and my partner got a non-alcoholic drink. It was odd that my beer came in a small plastic cup, while her drink was served in a big wine glass. She picked the pizza, which had a lot of Burrata cheese and arugula on it. I don't remember the exact name. The plastic cup for my beer was a minor issue, but the really loud 80s music was a problem. I like 80s music, it's nostalgic, but it was so loud that we couldn't talk without yelling. Then, when I tried the pizza, it was incredibly salty. I could actually feel the salt crystals, like way too much salt had been put on it. We didn't want to complain and tried to enjoy the afternoon, but then the bill came, and it was over $50. I'm not sure if I'll go back anytime soon. This visit was definitely not a good experience.
This is my second time here. First time was great. This time, no bueno! It was not good. Their fried calamart was terrible. Shrimp was good but the calamari was thin and dry and tasteless. One had a steak sautéed dish (special), another had the pork chop, and the 3rd had osso buco. All the meat dishes were overcooked and desert dry. Flavors were good, but all meats were dry as heck. I did like my dish. I ordered the Oxtail Pappadelle, which was good. Some of the dishes I couldn't remember the names, sorry. Desserts were good. Give this place a try but stay away from the meat dishes during lunch. You might get leftover meat from the previous night.

The food tasted excellent however I was very disappointed in the serving size for the salmon. It was the smallest piece of salmon I’ve ever seen served in a restaurant. 3 ounces at most. They are also under-staffed and we had to wait 40 minutes for our food. Not cool. Lastly, the experience eating inside is very different from eating outside where you are expected to order from a window, set your own table and get your own beverages—yet the menu prices are exactly the same as the full service tables indoors. Really? 5 stars for the food but everything else about the place was 2 stars at best.

Waited for 15 minutes for a table to then be told the only table that would be avaliable for us would be outside. We asked for a table inside and were told it would not be possible. We were a party of two. There was a party of 7 and party of 4 who were behind us in the que, both of whom were subsequently seated inside. The outside table was cold and very noisy from traffic on the road so we decided it was not for us and left.
Food was good, but the service ruined the experience! We came from out of state to the Italian district. The host seated us quickly, but our waitress was slow, inattentive, & dismissive-as if she hated both her job & the people she was serving. We waited far too long for drinks. We were never offered refills, never asked how our meals were, and never checked on to see if we needed anything—which we did. I took the kids & waited outside while my spouse sat alone 20 mins waiting for the check which never came. Another server finally helped us pay. For $127 I expected at least decent service. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed the meal, & we will never return.
