Genuine, seamless service with warm and attentive staff. The dishes are both innovative and authentic, offering delicious flavors. Both dim sum and dinner are delightful experiences.

One of the best dim sum restaurants in the country. A few dishes were traditional, but some of them were upgraded with some special version of xo sauce or truffle salt. Our favorite dishes were the pan-fried sticky rice and the fried soft-shell crab. The radish cake w/ xo sauce was also fantastic.

Good food. Fast service. Watch where you are stepping on the sidewalk.

10/10 brunch here. The servers are friendly and helpful. Food came fast and was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the chicken lettuce cups and the calamari. Our new favorite dim sum spot!

Authentic dim sum at reasonable prices and good portions! Highly recommend! I recommend booking in advance as the place is small (but worth it!).

Great spot! The waiter was very nice and well spoken. The dumplings were awesome, especially the chive and shrimp ones. The sweet and sour pork was tender and crispy, though the sauce was not well distributed in the dish served to us. I should have gotten fried rice instead of the noodles as they looked a bit more appealing but what we got was still tasty.

Excellent dim sum, especially the fried quail a delicacy. Also recommend the soft shell crab as well as the dumplings. The service is very quick and efficient, making it a perfect quick lunch spot.

Saw this place recommended on reddit and stopped by for dinner while in town for work. Coworker that came with me isn't an adventurous eater so we stuck to the basics, but the basics were excellent. The garlic & black pepper berkshire pork special was 10/10. Favorite dish though had to be the truffle salt shrimp toast. That wasabi aioli hits different. The gyoza and sui mai were as good as expected. Great service. Went out of my way to come here and it was well worth it.

Loved the experience and food! Ordered the shrimp roll ( super fresh, huge shrimps, and the right amount of sauce), onion pancake( not greasy at all), and the soup dumplings ( watch out for the soup ;) super juicy and addicting) would go back again! I forgot that I had ordered the layered cake ...It's was the best layer cake I have ever had, very well made !!!

Omg this place lives up to alllll the hype! Had one of my favorite meals. The staff were so nice and welcoming. The food was incredible. The dim sum was amazing but the star of the show was definitely the coffee glazed ribs! Just wow! 🤩

C
Cali Native V

OMG, one of the better dim sum places in the city! All of the dishes were amazing except the spare ribs which tasted a bit 'soapy' for lack of a better word. Service was excellent. The place was a lot smaller than expected so that means you should get there by 11a if you don't want to wait. Street parking.

C
Charles Hua

Absolutely worth it. They offer traditional dim sum dishes as well as rice and noodle dishes. Our favorites were the xiao long bao and the luo mi ji — both were savory and filling. The pan fried tofu curd dish was okay, but the fried outside overpowered the natural flavor. The thousand layer cake was light but flavorful. It’s pricey but the quality of the flavors makes it well worth making a visit.

One of the best Cantonese / Southern Chinese cuisine spot in the city! Both their dim sum brunch and dinner service are outstanding~ I love trying new items everywhere I go, but here: I always fail by ordering the lettuce cups with chicken stir fried pine nuts and basil !! That shows how good it is. Portion sizes are also perfect for family style meals, with a few delicacies such as the Chilean Sea Bass served smaller in size as a welcoming prompt for us to slow down and savour the dish. Wine selection is sadly limited, but tea is the way to go anyway. Everything was so good we forgot to take pictures, but I did get one for the durian puffs which came out piping hot - BEWARE the deliciousness

Seems to be a nice neighborhood Chinese restaurant where locals come together for family gatherings. The restaurant is unpretentious but with top notch Cantonese food! Every dish we tried were just liked ones you’d get in Hong Kong in terms of platting, flavor profile, textures. Very impressed by their soup dumplings, for a pork filling, there’s no unpleasant porky taste, the soup inside has a lot of depth and umami to it, very clear, no scums at all. Their pork chashu bao was also great, there’s a small salted duck yolk inside each. Particularly enjoyed their seafood mapo tofu. The steak in a steak and mushrooms stir fry was top quality meat. Service is very alike as well, they help you portion out soups, change plates after a dish with bones, provide wet tissues for dish requiring your hands, and fill your tea when you tilt the lid of the tea pot. Marking this place as a restaurant to come back to again if I’m in the Bay Area!

Amazing dimsum spot!! So nice to not have to travel all the way to the Richmond or even into Chinatown. Their buns were the fluffiest I’ve had in SF, absolutely adored the char siu buns which were a perfect balance of sweet and savory! We came for dinner and it was nice to be able to order a variety of dishes alongside dimsum. The coffee ribs were really unique and crispy, all the veggies tasted awesome, but the standout dish was the sticky rice with chinese bacon and sausage - it was super well seasoned, packed full of meat and mushrooms to give it a ton of favor. This will definitely be one of our go-to dimsum spots in SF!

After years of walking past the always-crowded HK Lounge Bistro on Folsom Street, I finally made it—and it was worth the wait. The restaurant opens at 10 a.m., but I arrived at 9:50. Even though I was a little early, they kindly welcomed me in and let me take a seat. That small gesture already made me feel at home. The atmosphere inside is warm, cozy, and charmingly chic. It’s not a large place, but it radiates a sense of comfort and familiarity—as if I had stepped into someone’s welcoming home, ready to enjoy a thoughtfully prepared meal. Though I hadn’t tasted the food yet, I knew I would love it. Everything about the experience—the ambiance, the hospitality, the anticipation—made it feel like a moment straight out of an epic. A quiet, modern-day victory. Without a doubt, 5 stars. Thank you, HK Lounge Bistro, for making my long-awaited visit feel so special.

Upscale dim sum experience with extremely authentic flavors and dishes. Genuinely, the staff were kind enough to deliver dishes, comment on the ingredients and flavors, and prepare the table setting for eating such as placing and garnishing the first soup dumpling. Although the price was more expensive, it equated to the clean cut atmosphere with little volume to disturb any conversations. The soup dumplings and the duck were my favorite menu items. I’d argue better for dine-in for the experience. Limited GF options if any at all.

This will be a long review so here are some keywords first: Small space, expensive, worth the money, make a reservation, no strollers Now… I absolutely loved the food and service here. I went with my brother and his girlfriend. We ordered fried rice, shrimp dumplings, hot and sour soup, a scallion toast (?), a shrimp toast thing, coffee ribs, half a duck, some tea, mango pudding, and custard buns. I didn’t try the duck because I wasn’t adventurous enough, but they loved it. The scallion toast was not my favorite and my party said other places do it better, but in my opinion everything else was delicious. The textures were all consistent and perfect. The food came out hot and very quickly, which we weren’t expecting, considering they were packed. Thankfully, it wasn’t too hot that we burned our mouths. I would definitely recommend getting the fried rice because it still tastes the same as leftovers the next day. The service was excellent. They were very attentive, but also mindful to let us enjoy our experience and not overwhelm us. I haven’t heard of other Dim Sum restaurants actually serving the food into the plates for the table, so it was fun to have our server do that. If that is a common occurrence, then all the better as they were following the standard, but I just thought it was a nice touch. Everything was quick, prompt, and professional. The space is very small, I described it as feeling like I was in someone’s home (which was honestly a plus) but someone else described it as feeling like a fever dream. The color of the walls makes you feel like you want to leave because they’re like a salmon pink, but it wasn’t too distracting. It was a welcoming space. It’s hard to wait inside so when you make your reservation, it might be good to wait just outside the door after checking in, as it can feel cramped. I give the restaurant an extra good review just because I had been feeling badly and sick for a couple days and the food was very soothing. I felt a lot better so I would definitely recommend it as a comfort food place. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience there and if I have the money I will definitely go back. I don’t think I had many negative things to say except for that one particular dish. I believe parking is paid on the street but free after 5:00? I forgot to check

HK Lounge bistro is an upscale dim sum restaurant in San Francisco. The restaurant is a bit small, so I recommend reservations for large parties. I went both in the afternoon and evening to try their dim sum and dinner menu. Their dim sum menu has all the traditional dishes. Their hargow and cheung fun was soft and fresh. The baked buns were savory and sweet. Everything came out fairly fast and was fresh and delicious. I visited another time during dinner and got the steamed chilean seabass with tofu. The tofu and seabass were soft topped with plenty black bean sauce. We also got the glazed coffee berkshire pork ribs. The glazed coffee ribs were a bit too sweet for my taste and were okay. The servers were friendly and checked on us quite often. Overall, HK Lounge Bistro was one of my favorite dim sum/Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, and they have a variety of different dishes to choose from.

Tip: make reservations if you can. The space is small with limited tables. The service was very attentive. Food quality is quite high (although the skin of 蝦餃could be a bit more chewy). Don't expect a cheap bill but it is worth it. The duck dumping was a twist of another traditional Cantonese dim sum (粉果)& you will be surprised but how good it is.

We eat here at least every three-four weeks. We appreciate how clean the dishes are. While people complain about it being pricey, we rationalize this relative to the outstanding dishes. Sure the restaurant is small, sure they don’t take walk-ins. But we keep seeing the same folks every time we go. If you want a quality meal prepared excellently this is your place. Here you actually get what you pay for. Have a reservation next week.

The food here is really, really tasty and well-done! Came here for a big group dinner. It is a little more pricey than other similar restaurants, but it’s worth it for the difference in taste and freshness, and perfect for a more high-end Chinese food date night. Thanks for an amazing dinner

Amazing dim sum, some of the best in the city. At lunch time there generally isn't a wait. It's a small dining room with frosted windows, so it can feel a bit cozy, and the food all comes out quickly and freshly cooked. Don't sleep on the soup dumplings or the dry fried green beans.

Oh damn, this place was so delicious. Came here for lunch and had the pan fried noodles, shrimp crepe rolls and the eggplant was AMAZING. Also had the egg custard and I’m like damn I wish I lived in San Fran. I will just have to make the trip from Seattle more often! 😌

Came here for my partner’s birthday and what an experience! Good - The service is really good - this is the first place that serves you XLB onto your spoon - Nice staff, let us celebrate his birthday and gave us a sparkler - Great food, I liked the honey walnut prawns, the fried noodles, the Tamago tofu a lot - Cozy homey ambiance. - Decently priced for 6 people! Good value Bad - The table wasn’t ready until 15 min after the reservation time Overall this was such a good experience I’d come again!

Delicious food, beautifully presented, with both traditional dishes (beef with bitter melon, walnut prawns, Peking duck) and interesting house variations (coffee glazed pork ribs, Chilean sea bass). Very attentive and friendly staff and quick service.

Tucked into a modest locale, this establishment is a powerhouse of big flavors. Though the space leans towards the intimate side, it offers an atmosphere where the dim sum shines—fresh, delightful, and exquisitely crafted. Each dish we sampled was a testament to culinary precision and passion. The service excelled, complementing the dining experience with efficiency and warmth. Additionally, patrons will find convenience in ample parking—a rare gem in the bustling city. This spot proves that great things indeed come in small packages.

First, let not the price scared you because if you do the math. The amount you pay at other places may be slightly less than this but the experience of your taste buds here will convey a much better value and enjoyment. The culinary skills of the chef is legit... At least on the dishes we ordered. In summary: 1. Service is excellent. Very courteous and attentive. However, when ithe restaurant was complete full, you can see a little bit of catching up. 2. Foods were amazing. Quality was very good. The pork it use for the 梅菜扣肉 was extraordinary. It's got layers of thin fat with meat. The sliced of pork was intact with good texture and not falling apart which you can experienced in even good banquet style Chinese restaurants. The skin is crisp not too soft. Personally, I prefer the 梅菜 to be sweeter. I found it a little salty. The sweet and sour pork maintain its crunchiness within the sauce means they know how to do it right. Such as amount of oil add to the sauce to maintain the batter crunchiness. The soup was excellent, use very good ingredients. The fish stomach was of very good quality. You can tell by the rich flavor and the texture. The BBQ pork was top notch. The sauce was perfectly balanced not too sweet but sweet enough. The pork was of excellent quality. You have to get fatty one to make bbq pork and the pork meat was tender. There are some crispiness on the meat. Very well done. Thousand layers cake was legit. They know how to use the authentic and proper ingredients to make it. Salty egg, probably lard, very fluffy yet texture is slightly firm. Listen, if we are talking about the quality and skills and it's bar none. Value is definitely there with the kind of quality and culinary skills but it's not cheap. Honestly, I've been to Michelin star Chinese restaurants in HK, this is at similar level. The dishes they made is not fancy with design etc. Just authentic quality Chinese food but when you talk about skills, techniques and taste, one would wonder if the chef has Michelin star aspiration. Nevertheless, the skills are there, but if you want to shoot for the stars, there are a few things need to improve.... Mostly about the interior design, restaurant settings, tableware and ramekins etc. The servers were great but for star level, there is more refining. All in all, I'm impressed with the food at this restaurant. Regardless of what the chef's aspiration, as a patron, we are fortunate to enjoy some quality culinary skills.

100% worth the visit! [Pros] The Coffee Glazed Pork Ribs are really interesting and a must-try. Their dim sum is clearly made with high quality ingredients and consistently tasty. I really don’t have any complaints, so I’m comfortable giving it a 5. [Cons] Not exactly a bad thing, but seating is definitely limited and depending on the day, parking might be an issue. Inside, it's tightly packed and might be cramped for some.

This is HonKong taste alive in SF. We were offered tea for the table right after we sat down and on cloudy cold day, it was great. On a Sunday lunch and had line outside on the street, waiting of around 25 minutes, we got seated. I found most food we ordered has a similar taste, rich in light soy sauce. However there are chilli sauce in the table. Shrimp Dumplings were so good and the pork dumplings were so juicy. We loved beef and bbq pork noodles wrap; similar sauce yet different flavor because of the diff meat.

C

The dumplings are amazing, no other way to put it. Tried both some pork soup dumplings and some shrimp and pork dumplings, both dishes were excellent and I highly recommend them. The beef ribeye chow fun was also really good, the texture and taste was amazing, a good amount of volume and generous with the beef, I would also recommend this dish. Ended with a mango pudding which was refreshing as always, and exactly what you expect. Highly recommend to give this place a visit, it's worth it.

Many things to love about this place. Great food and good portions. I liked the chive and pork dumplings the best. I also liked the fried rice and greens (snow peas, I think). Authentic flavors and hot tea. The waiters speak Cantonese. They have good tables for large groups. No wait and plenty of parking Sunday at 10am.

June 2023: I was happy to hear that the old owners of the Chinese restaurant on Geary and Parker opened up a new place near my home. The menu was more limited than the old restaurant. We ordered a fried rice, Mongolian beef, fish with tofu and an "ung choy". Everything was okay but tasty. There were some areas that can use improvement. I was disappointed in the fish because the item was described as "steamed Chilean sea bass with tofu in black bean sauce". When the dish came out, there was only a little bit of fish on a large bed of tofu. The way the menu described the dish, I was expecting the fish to be the "feature" item. For the price ($28), I was expecting a large fillet of sea bass with some small amount of tofu. At other restaurants, this dish would have been described as a "steamed tofu topped with sea bass in black bean sauce". The first ingredient is supposed to be the main ingredient! So I found the dish description to be somewhat misleading. Tables and chairs were a bit uncomfortable. My wife, who is 5'4", was unable to sit close to the table properly because there was a table leg and crossbar that prevented her from scooting in. I would not have expected this at a restaurant of this price point. Service was inconsistent. We asked for two bowls of rice 🍚 but never got it. Place is small. Layout is challenging. Would I come back? Since I have had many years of great food at their old place, I would try it again. I hope they make some improvements... Especially on the menu description of the fish.

Took my extended family here. They really enjoyed the food, but had sticker shock. Chinese food shouldn’t be synonymous with cheap - the food and service quality here are anything but that. However, Chinese food are usually delicious and “cheap”. The salt and pepper pork ribs was $25 and only came with 4pc. Absolutely delicious though! Highly recommend their salted egg yolk soft shelled crab and crispy stuffed whole chicken with sticky rice (preorder only). The stuffed chicken was definitely a new experience. It doesn’t come with any chicken meat though. I was hoping for some but it was all sticky rice inside. We stayed near closing so we were able to meet the owner. She's pretty nice and made conversation with us!

Outstanding Dim Sum. Steamed Sea Bass is also a highlight. We did not care for the coffee crusted ribs; they literally taste like stale burnt diner coffee. Worth a visit, but the price is excessive. Went with family and paid well over $100 per person

Chose to try this spot because it was close to me hotel and the number of positive reviews. I am glad I swung by for dim sum. A broader menu than you normally see at dim sum restaurants which was nice and you can tell that everything is cooked to order. I tried the chicken feet (always do!), their fish Cheung fun and steamed pork and shrimp dumplings. The chicken feet were very good. A little spice, but a nice sweetness to the sauce and the meat was tender and non gelatinouus. The shrimp and porn dumplings are very homemade, packed with filling but rather lacking flavor. You had to dip them in chili soy sauce for any flavor at all. The Cheung fun was fairly bland, as they generally are, but really great texture and for me and unusual sight on the menu.

Excellent dimsum. Came for the siu mai and shrimp toast but ordered so much more from their enticing menu. The dimsum was the absolute best in San Francisco, and I tried 3 different dimsum places in one week during my stay. I love the thoughtfully made sauces that accompanied the items. They truly enhanced the flavors of the dimsum. We ordered the soup dumplings, the honey BBQ pork, pork and shrimp siumai, shrimp hargow, chive and shrimp dumplings, and shrimp toast. Chefs kiss. The one huge deterrent is the smaller space, which means reservations are recommended. And my goodness, it was soooooo loud in there. It was the only unpleasant thing about our visit. It was uncomfortably loud, and it was very hard to enjoy a family dinner because we could hardly hear one another. The food and service were excellent and made up for the small space and noise level.

A good Cantonese restaurant nestled in the heart of SF in Soma area. Food choices are good. But was very salty to my taste. We ordered sauteed chicken sea bass and chicken kung Pao, which was yum. Service was very good. Staff very courteous. Very difficult to find parking. Overall a good place for an evening. Must make reservations and not suitable for large groups. The place is secluded during weekend evenings

A wonderful experience here when we were looking for dining near our hotel after a busy day. Service was welcoming and attentive in a way that was personalized even on a busy house. Food: excellent, understated, perfectly prepared by skilled chef’s cooking with intention to the utmost product. Can’t wait to be back to try more of their menu items. Thank you for giving us a great meal.

This place came highly recommended but it is just average dim sum at high prices. We got the vegetable dumplings, the crab balls, and the mushroom lo mein. The crab balls were tasty, the only thing to recommend here. The lo mein is egg noodles not actually lo mein, so not sure what else is not accurate on the menu.

Stopped by on a Friday evening for dinner and drinks with friends. I made a reservation ahead of time as this place can get quite busy. The restaurant is small and cozy, and service was excellent. We tried a variety of their small plates - mainly dumplings and dim sums. I'd say the food was very good, but the prices are higher than I was expecting for the portion sizes.

The dim sum here was pretty good. Every dish was prepared well and tasted fresh. I'm not sure why the restaurant's ratings are so high though. While the food was fine, the prices were exorbitant, especially given the small portions. Perhaps the greatest offender was the $18 plate of black and pepper pork spare ribs. What we got were 8 little pieces of deep fried pork that were mostly just bones. The soup dumplings were very average. The wrapper was too thick and the meat filling wasn't terribly flavorful. The lotus-wrapped sticky rice was also very average. The small piece of pork in the middle was tasty, but the sticky rice lacked any real fragrance or flavor. The truffle salt shrimp toast was our favorite dish. Service was great - attentive and friendly . The restaurant is very small inside and can get quite noisy. The location is strange, in a non-descript, somewhat dodgy part of Soma.

You can't deny that the quality here is amazing, but the prices for the dim sum really have you second-guessing life choices. We ordered 7 dishes among 3 people and for the total to come out to $60+ per person is insane, especially when a fried rice costs $30 and the tea wasn't complementary. The space itself is quite small with tight seating. You'll need to wait for a spot, which can take a while, but it's nice that they don't rush you to leave. You order off a menu and put check marks next to items you want.

The dim sum was okay overall. Some dishes were enjoyable, but a few were salty while others lacked flavor. It also felt a bit pricey.

I have been trying many dimsum restaurants, honestly this one gave me a bit disappointed. Even though all the foods have a good temperature and juicy but the taste is really not that good. And yeah it's also expensive, you can see 5 pictures I uploaded and a pot of tea for over hundred dollar, there's also some special SF fee added. What can we say..it's just...San Francisco thing eh?? Also it feels like a fine dinning place rather than a dimsum; and I'll give my respect for all the professional servers over here. At least they make me feel better than how i think about my foods. There are plenty better places to give it a try, if you like a real dimsum journey, I will not recommend this place.

Wwnt to this place after seeing the good reviews. The crystal skin on the shrimp dumplings and rice noodle roles are really good and chewy. Those are the 2 dishes I'd recommend. The rest are just ok. For e.g., there is absolutely no reason why they should be charging $14 for siumai when it is typicalylly $7 to $8 in other dim sum restaurants and it taste just average.

Increased prices are simply way too high to ignore, thus the 2-star review. Look, the food is top-quality, 4 to 5 stars without a doubt. Some of the best dim sum I’ve had, especially the shrimp noodle roll and siu mai. The spicy shrimp wonton with sesame oil is exceptional. Their XO sauce is really good. But $20 for a plate of Chinese broccoli is straight up robbery. It was no different than the plate you get for $8-10 anywhere else. $18 siu mai? C’mon now. There are a couple specialty dishes that I’m totally okay with spending on, but I don’t want to be gouged on the basics. The dining room is also painfully small and tables are very cramped as a result.

This place is Michelin rated, but the experience is very disappointing. The food is so salty, inedible and the servers are rude when explained. Will not recommend and come back.

Tldr western restaurant with a chinese skin. Not the place if you are looking for authenthic Chinese food. The 红油抄手 was sweet lol (westernized much?) and the Peking duck was probably the worst I've had with sweet buns. No idea how this place got a Michelin. I guess the moment this place had zero Chinese customers the moment I entered was a easy red flag.
