This rooftop bar blew my mind! The views and drinks are so good, but not as good as the service! Our bartender, Wemberson, knew every inch of the coctail menu and didn’t need to look up the recipes to make the drinks. 10/10
There is no better people and no better place to visit in San Pedro than Charmaine’s. Charmaine and her husband are so welcoming, kind and caring. You walk in and feel like you’ve been friends for life. All of the staff have smiles are their faces and provide excellent service. At some places you feel pressure, here they take the island life approach and make you feel at home, offering you 20 samples of ice cream if you want before making a decision! I’ve tried everything here from smoothies to the all you can eat Sunday brunch to gelato, coffee and cake. Everything is so deliciously awesome! My only complaint is I am so active on the island but I feel like all the walking I do is to just burn off enough calories so I can go crazy here! Whenever we are in San Pedro we will come back time and time again due to their kindness, amazing food and friendly/attentive staff.
Charmaine’s at San Francisco Proper Hotel I had an amazing experience at Charmaine’s. It’s truly one of the best if not the best rooftop spots in San Francisco. The atmosphere is elegant And the views are stunning and the whole vibe feels elevated and effortless. A special shout-out to Braeden, who genuinely made my visit even better. He was incredibly attentive, kind, and went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. His service really stood out and made the whole experience memorable. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great views, great service, and an overall beautiful night out. I’ll definitely be coming back.
Last night was my second experience at Charmaine's for my sister's 40th Birthday dinner and it did NOT disappoint. It all started by being professionally and kindly greeted by Braeden on the ground level and then by handsome Miguel upon coming out of the elevator into the restaurant. Our server Joel made sure we always had everything we needed. Wemerson and Devan made extra special delicious cocktails just for me since I wanted something that wasn't on the cocktail menu. The manager, Norma came over to ensure everything was going smoothly and she made me and my group feel right at home and even offered to take a group photo of us. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was absolutely stunning and the overall experience was perfect. I highly recommend Charmaine's for any occasion really- happy hour/after work drinks and bites or a special occasion.
I had such an incredible experience at Charmaine’s! From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely amazing. A special shoutout to Taylor, who was so kind and attentive. He went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. The ambiance was perfect—chic, relaxed, and full of great energy. The wine selection was also top-notch, with something for every taste. I can’t recommend this place enough—it’s definitely a must-visit spot in San Francisco!
**This review is for the rooftop bar** Charmaines is a place you go for the view and the atmosphere more than anything else. Dont get me wrong, the food and drinks are great but this is about the view. Food is excellent but its appetizers and finger food, not a meal. You can make a meal of it but its going to take a few orders and some imagination. Drinks are excellent and there is something for every taste - beer, wine, mixed. Personally, I recommend the cocktails. Im generally a beer guy but when you have a chance to get really well made cocktails take advantage of it. Back to the view. Its amazing. Its also SF. The panorama picture below was taken on July 19th. It was COLD with blowing fog. They brought us blankets and of course there is a fire. We were still cold. The second round of pictures is from October and it was significantly warmer but there was more wind. Where we were seated we were completely protected from the wind and it was great. Where you sit will have a HUGE impact on the temperature you feel. Same day in two different locations you could be hot or cold. I would recommend a jacket/sweater no matter what time of year it is. Its a lot easier to take off a sweater than knit one from scratch. I gave Charmaines 4 stars for service and atmosphere. The service can be spotty and is very much impacted by the other guests. Same with he atmosphere. If you get a bunch of VC tech bros in there the atmosphere can be terrible and the service can suffer. I get it, go to the table buying bottle service first. Thats not the fault of the staff, its the curse of the Tech bros. And that brings me to the last part. This is expensive even by SF standards. To me its worth it but you might not agree.
I stopped by Charmaine’s for a nightcap after dinner & I’m so glad I did. From the start, everyone was incredibly kind — The host downstairs made me feel totally comfortable (Even with my takeout bag 😅) & gave me all the details I needed before heading up Once I got to the rooftop, the vibe was immaculate — Warm lighting, cozy fire pits, & a mix of people who were just genuinely happy to be there. I had my iPad with me & planned to watch a show while I enjoyed a drink, & everyone made me feel so comfortable doing my own thing José, my waiter, was amazing — Thoughtful, attentive, & so genuinely uplifting; He even surprised me with a complimentary glass of champagne just to make sure I was fully enjoying myself (I don’t even drink champagne, but the gesture meant a lot 🥹) Miguel was another staff member who really stood out — Equally kind & always checking in throughout the night. It’s rare to feel that level of hospitality, especially when you’re dining solo Ratings: ✨ Ambience: 10/10 — Cozy, chic, & so inviting 🥂 Drinks: 10/10 — Espresso martinis were perfect 🥚 Food: 10/10 — Deviled eggs w hints of garlic were incredible 💛 Service: 11/10 — Truly above & beyond I went in hoping for a quiet solo night & ended up having one of my favorite evenings in San Francisco — Can’t wait to come back (& Def trying the guac next time)
When I previously stayed at Yotel, I saw there was a rooftop across the street! The photos on here made it look super cute…and it is! It’s kind of a new age, mid century modern vibe. Staff were welcoming and inviting. I got a couple drinks and was able to sit by one of the fire pits. Both drinks were tasty but the SALEM SABERHAGEN was delicious! It seemed like I ordered them, and the next minute they were out! On top of all the positives, they were playing really good music. Beirut, Chet Faker, Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Vibes were impeccable! Put this spot on the top of your rooftop/cocktail destinations!
Gorgeous view, modern avante garde rooftop restaurant and bar. Small bites only for dinner, so you'll need to order a few plates per person. Good cocktails. Neighborhood isn't great, but once you're in the hotel, you're fine.
The sight on this rooftop is one of the most amazing at night time. We had a reservation and stayed at the Proper hotel. We were escorted up to the rooftop by 1st floor staff with a member awaiting to immediately seat us. Wait staff is super friendly. They were out of chartreuse and could not make the Mr Mistoffeles cocktail. However, the waitress worked with the bartender to provide a very suitable alternative. The Black Manhattan, never heard of it. But it fit the bill. Friends enjoyed themselves while we took in the views. It gets a bit chilly even with the fire, but totally worth it.
amazing bar. the waiter knew every last detail of the menu and surprised me with a couple of cocktails that I never thought I'd try and they were absolutely delicious! the place itself has amazing atmosphere with great views and great people hanging around. fancy and tidy. the only minus is the homeless people around the property but that's all over SF pretty much.
Had an awesome experience here as a solo traveler staying in the Proper Hotel. I ordered two of the on-menu cocktails and was delighted by both, especially the Super French martini. I also had the Smoked Cod dip and it was fantastic — not something I’d typically order for myself but took the advice of my server and I’m glad I did. The service was fantastic; incredibly friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was upbeat and the space is beautifully designed; welcoming and comfortable while very elegant. I can’t wait to return to this spot when I’m back in San Fran!
I’m staying at the Proper and the neighborhood is not ideal (as we all know). That said, I chose this hotel because I knew the on-site f+b program would be strong enough that I wouldn’t have to leave the property. Charmaine’s did not disappoint. Very hospitable team and great drinks / snacks. Extra special treatment for hotel guests, which is always appreciated 😇. For locals, there’s a great happy hour 7x7 special. Plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. If you’re outdoor, ask for a fireplace seat.
Although the weather wasn’t very nice, we still got to see some great views from Charmaine’s. The food options were good, and the drinks were particularly interesting. The service was also great, our waiter helped us pick a drink that matched our tastes. Would highly recommend!

The drinks were really good and well crafted. The bar aesthetic is very elegant and the views of the city breathtaking. I booked my dinner at 6:30pm so I could enjoy the sunset and the night view. We had an amazing server, and the cheese potatoes with smoked mushroom was delicious. We also had the tacos, but they were below average. The guac and pico were not great. The guac was creamy but didn’t tasted like avocado it was very plain, no onions or cilantro, like nothing to elevate it. The pico has cucumber lots of it, which although refreshing took away from what the taste of pico should’ve been.
On the rooftop of the Proper Hotel in San Francisco is Charmaine's. We were staying at the hotel and realized that they had a weekend brunch where they Rose' and Paella!!! Check in the lobby area, (as well as a separate entrance from the hotel). A dedicated elevator takes you to the roof and we stepped out into a sleek modern vibey living room with views all across San Francisco sky line. The bar is stylish and well stocked. The interior rooms are structured into seating areas for conversation and merriment and the outside area has firepits and comfortable seating to soak in an amazing ambience!!! The location is a little out of the way, but it is well with the trip for a eohphisticated yet down to earth experience!!!
My friend and I had a reservation on OpenTable for a Sunday 4pm visit. As of June 2025, you can avoid the per person nonrefundable fee and minimum spend by reserving a Sunday rather than a Friday or Saturday. We'd both been pre-pandemic and fondly remembered their rooftop bar and firepits. We were again seated outside though this time in the skinnier aisle section rather than in the slightly larger area with the better view (it looked like most of that seating was for 3 people). I ordered the Big Cat, my friend ordered the Proper Cup, and we both split the spinach and artichoke dip with potato chips. My drink was good, but we were both more impressed with the dip, which was delicious! We were also celebrating my friend's birthday, so I let them know on my reservation, and they brought out a complimentary small red velvet cake, which was a nice touch! For anyone driving in for their visit, the UC Hastings garage offers $10 all day parking on Sundays (though I think they close around 9/10pm) and it's an easy walk down McAllister to reach the bar elevator entrance.
Charmaine rooftop in San Francisco has amazing views. That is really the main highlight. The outdoor seating is great, especially on a nice day. The whole place has a cool vibe and looks good. Service was solid too. Staff were friendly and quick. The food was okay. Not bad, but nothing I would go out of my way for. It is definitely more of a spot for the atmosphere than for the food. One downside during my visit was that two sketchy people showed up smelling strongly of weed. They were not just chilling either. They kept running around the rooftop and making it hard to relax. It completely threw off the mood for a while. That smell was way too much and kind of ruined the experience at that point. Overall, I still like the rooftop and would go back for the views and the setting. Just hope the crowd is better next time.
Wonderful roof top cocktail bar, would be an instant hit for its ambience and cocktails if not for its unfortunate location. Just around the corner, many clusters of homeless people gathered. To come up, a security guard accompanied us all the way to the elevator and had to use his special key to send us atop. Once elevator door opens, it’s like a different world than the outside. Tastefully decorated just like the hotel with campfires, make you feel warm and fuzzy on a chilly night with a nice glass of cocktail in hand.

Beautiful views, great energy. Items are pretty overpriced, but tasted wonderful! Our waitress was great, but I did not feel like the service was very personal. We had to wave someone down if we needed something. Also not located in the greatest spot, had to walk through some very sketchy areas of SF for decent parking that wasn’t the provided valet service (which as of today is $8 every 20minutes). Overall, I loved my experience here, but I probably wouldn’t come back!

My wife and I dropped by without a reservation a Sunday late afternoon. We got a table inside but asked for a table outside. That worked out nicely - however… we could not for some reason get one of the tables with a fire pit …. So we sat for an hour and a half at a table without a fire pit staring at three free tables that had a fire pit … really strange they could not allow us a table with a fire pit. We know that the tables could have been reserved, but obviously there was plenty of change/room for us, if only they had showed a bit of flexibility. The drinks are GREAT!! Expensive - but great. Service is adequate as we had to proactively getting hold of a waiter - they did not automatically come by and ask how we were doing or if we needed to order more. The location is …. Really bad. … a lot of people on drugs on the streets around the hotel where the bar is located. And a lot of homeless people. We felt really scared as we walked from the Market Street Cable Car station to the hotel just a couple of blocks away. I would not walk there at night. The overall rating is a reflection of the lack of flexibility in assigning a fire pit table and the location. Not sure we would return another time - at least not without a reservation - and not walking there.
