Opinions de Irving Subs dining room San Francisco
I got the Irving sub. Top two were the Giants sub. Dutch crunch bread was nicely toasted. Sourdough was good too! I wish the fried chicken was saucy but it was yum! My peppers were unevenly distributed and jumpscared me but I still ate them. Pickles were yummy! They have a little inside space a few buildings over where you can sit and eat, play board games, or play ping pong. Super cute!
It’s been at least a decade since I’ve eaten Dutch crunch bread. I used to enjoy thick slices of it as a kid, and it was always a treat since I didn’t get it very often, and it outshines a classic French loaf. As I got caught up with life, I nearly forgot about it until I moved to San Francisco last year and read an article by the SF Gate that claimed Dutch crunch is a regional specialty in Northern California. It suddenly made sense to me why I’d never seen it anywhere else. After reading the article, I eagerly looked up where I could find Dutch crunch bread in the city. I bookmarked a few spots to try but then again got busy. Now, finally, over the long weekend, I went on a foodie crawl along Irving and adjacent streets and spontaneously stopped in to order a sandwich to-go here. I really like how Irving Subs offers several vegan and vegetarian options. This was the top spot I wanted to try because of that reason. Sandwiches can be kind of heavy since they’re loaded with ingredients, so I like to get mine with meat alternatives and lots of veggies. I ordered the soy spicy sandwich on a toasted Dutch crunch roll, and it was ready for pick-up at the takeout window bit later. When I got home, I quickly devoured half of it. It was so delicious! The tofu was nice and firm, and the bread was fresh and dense just the way I like it. I’m happy I found a great spot that combines a childhood treat I knew and loved with healthy ingredients that suit my current lifestyle.
Had two delicious subs from this shop. Both were full of meat and veggie toppings. This deli is definitely in the top half in the city that I’ve tried. Being a close walk from ucsf, I’ll make sure to stop by again soon. I recommend the Warriors sandwich.
Dare I say, the best sandwich in the bay? Yep. Order ahead cause you'll wait at least 45 mins. Worth every waiting second. I ordered the Goodfellas with Turkey.
Ordered the Giant... With every intention of eating half. I couldn't stop myself from eating the whole thing! Garlic mayo... Spicy mustard...tangy peppers.... Lots of meat and avocado all on Dutch crunch. The staff was nice, friendly, and quick. Perfect for grabbing a little picnic on your way home or on the way to the park.
Really good hoagie on some nice bread. Loved the Goodfellas on either a Sourdough roll or Dutch Crunch.

For me the sandwiches were on point. Ordered the Goodfellas, Waverly, and a custom turkey salami all toasted for delivery. Good portions on the meat and to me if it was gluten free bread it was really good gluten free bread. Will order again.
Dutch crunch bread is always toasted well which a lot of places don't do enough. The vegan sandwiches rock.
They have the best tuna sandwich ever on the sourdough bread. With the potato salad and jalapeño chips is the best ever.. I love this place

No-frills sandwich shop with fast and friendly service and fair prices. I had a “Beat LA” (oh yeah Beat LA!) in a sourdough roll, which has turkey, roast beef and cheddar cheese (plus all the common ingredients). The sandwich has a good portion, I wouldn’t call it huge but it was tightly stuffed with lots of meat and veggies, and I definitely felt its weight in my hand. There isn’t a lot of sauce though, so taste wise it’s a bit dry and on the bland side. I even felt like the sourdough was the most tasty part.
Ordered the Giants sandwich, basically a Turkey BLTA on sourdough roll. Pros: - It was a decent size, good for two not very hungry people or one hungry person. - price is good considering many places in the area cost $15+ for something similar - generous with the avocado, it kept falling out while I was trying to eat it - bacon was the best part of this sandwich, adding both crunch and flavor. I’ll stick to my usual Italian sandwiches next time - I ordered at 11am on a Saturday and it was quick, ready in 6mins Cons: -This was my first time ordering from here (I did it on DoorDash and picked up), and it said on the website that all sandwiches include pickles and pepperoncini, but there were literally TWO slices of pickle and maybe six pepperoncini rings for my pretty large sandwich (see photo), pretty sad. Good learning, if you actually want to taste them pickles or pepperoncini request extra - The bread was fine but a little chewy, not super tangy sourdough. I’ll try the Dutch crunch next time Overall: pretty standard sandwich, good value for the area
Their Italian subs are the best around (hot or cold) with a great selection of breads. The grilled chicken is a little bland though. Usually at least a 10 minute wait so call ahead. Limited counter seating, too so more of a take-out spot.
Decent sandwich and reasonably priced. I got the giant and it was good.

The staff are all super friendly at this sandwich shop. The sandwiches need some help. They're not wrapped in a way that is conducive to tidy consumption, they toast the top of the sandwich which causes it to shred the roof of your mouth more than it otherwise would, especially with dutch crunch, and they also put too much lettuce with no option on the ordering kiosk for light lettuce. If you want excellence in sandwiches, this probably isn't your spot. It's not horrible though. Also the breaded chicken tasted like 3-day old soggy chicken nuggets from McDonald's. Just being honest.

Ordered on DoorDash for pick, arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes later, then the told us that our order would be ready at a time that was 40 minutes away. I guess we were crazy enough to walk around and wait but upon receiving the sandwich, it was honestly just underwhelming and just not worth it. Smaller size with a decent amount of meat portions. But still a very disappointing experience. Extremely slow service. If they can’t take all these orders and fulfill them in a timely fashion then they should pause online orders briefly or something. Won’t be returning.

If you ask for extra anything, they seem to intentionally give you LESS rather than more. See pics, where I asked for extra pickles and banana peppers... it’s not like this place is very high quality so the least they could do is give toppings when someone asks for them? If you want to be stingy about something like pickles then, just charge extra for them. If you allow the option for extra toppings, follow directions when someone requests them. 2 or 3 pickles or peppers is clearly not extra, like it’s not even the normal amount on most sandwiches, jeez. They put hardly any sauce on the bread either so expect a dry and plain sandwich. Wouldn’t bother asking for extra sauce, cause you know you wouldn’t get it
Just ordered a sandwich and it was all turkey rind! The butt of the turkey. Gross!!! No one wants the rind. Do better. The brown in the pic isn’t bread

I don't leave bad reviews lightly, but I was really disappointed in my sandwich. I ordered The Melt with mozzarella, and it was totally cold. The chicken on it was supposed to be grilled, but it was really strange and so pale and damp that I had to check if it was raw. I don't think it was actually raw, but it really looked strange, almost like what's in a chicken nugget but with normal texture mixed in? They also seemed to be struggling to keep up with orders, and I had to wait for half an hour to get my food while people who ordered after me got theirs. I don't blame the employees for this, to be clear, I think the owners need to have a third person on staff because clearly two isn't enough. It just sucks, I only eat out once a week to stay on my budget and for my one treat to be such a disappointment is really unfortunate.
Super rude staff, long wait times, incorrect wait times when ordering ahead. Good food, but you can get a great sandwich anywhere in this city

It took me 40min they told me it will be ready within 15min that’s ridicules I’ll recommend to you guys once you order go for a long walk or drive come back after 1 hour then you can grab your food yeah easy
Good food - RUDE owner. Came when it was extremely slow. They were wanting to close the ordering area. On a cold and windy day the owner forced me to wait outside after I ordered. I didn’t make a fuss. Only to come and find out they have a dining area inside a few doors down. How rude of the owner to make me wait 15 minutes in the cold instead of inviting me to wait/dine next door.
they got rid of the Hey Ya which was one of the best vegetarian subs you could get in the city
3rd time ordering, each time order has been wrong. The last and final time we paid 6.00 for extra meat, but didn't get it. Maybe go somewhere else
