Worth the hype (and the wait). Wings were fantastic and tasted similar to the "Asian Zing" flavor at BWW except this time, the skin was still crispy and the flavor a little less spicy. The black bean noodles were also excellent and quite decadent. The shrimp chive dumplings were..... actually just average. Would have been better off without that. Service was excellent and everything went well. Food: 8/10 Service: 7/10 Vibes: 5/10 Value: 6/10

We got recommended this place by a couple in an Uber Pool, and it lived up to expectations. Food is very good, wait time isn't that long because they flip tables pretty quickly, but that also means you can expect some semi rushed service. If you don't know what to get, just ask for their recommendations, it's all pretty good.

Great! Totally worth the wait. We had 6 people so got several things. Of course the wings. But we also got the green beans, mushu pork, fried post stickers, pork, pork fried rice, pork dumplings, and tofu/spinach soup. All of it was good and had unique flavors. Unfortunately I did not get great pictures of all of it!

Best chicken wings in San Francisco! Be sure to sign into their waitlist and be patient, and open your boundaries and share a table with another group. Your efforts will be rewarded! I highly recommend their fried chicken wings in their delicious sweet, spicy sauce. The chicken is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Perhaps the best fried chicken that I have ever had! The savory black beans noodles is a unique dish, similar to Korean Jaja mein. The string beans is another featured item: stir fried with soy sauce and garlic. Their sweet sour flounder was also delicious!

If you have party of 8, you can call in and make reservations so you dont have to stand and wait in line! Food was great. Pot stickers, wings and peanut sauce noodles were my favorite dishes. Service was okay. Some staff was knowledgeable. Some completely forgot what we asked for.

Green beans, chicken wings, and soup were the group favorites. It's rightfully a popular spot, so expect to wait for a table. The atmosphere is what you would expect--tightly packed tables and fast-paced.

I was told that San Francisco was very unique. The city is beautiful and the restaurants are very vast. We love Chinese food. San Tung is highly recommended. They have THE BEST CHICKEN WINGS! Their dumplings are great and the sea food is completely great. We arrived a few minutes before they open, around 4:40 and there was already people waiting outside to get in. If you have short time it is best to make a reservation, if you want to live the full experience you can be in line and wait around 45 to 60 min to get your table. It is worth the wait.

Best fried chicken in the world!!!Perfectly cooked with amazingly tasty flavours. I will be dreaming of this chicken forever. I demolished the chicken all by myself and the plate had at least 10 pieces. Its super busy and had to wait a bit to get in... but its worth it.

This place is a gem! A must have for anyone who enjoys Chinese food. The dry fried chicken is the best chicken wing you will ever have! Everything was top notch in quality and flavor! I can't wait to visit SF again and try more on the menu.

San Tung is extremely busy all the time, this means your food will be super fresh all the time. The chicken wings are legendary. The wings are spicy, sweet, meaty and really crispy. The chicken wings are a must order when eating here. Also had the twice cooked pork with vegetables over rice. The pork was a really good portion, perfect for sharing, really delicious and fresh. Service is pretty quick. Ask for extra napkins because eating the chicken wings can get really messy. This is a excellent restaurant to go with 2-4 friends and order an array of different dishes to share. I'm a very picky eater about Chinese food, San Tung exceeds my expectations each time. Highly recommend this business

So far the BEST BLACK BEAN NOODLES i’ve ever tried! ✨♥️ The wonton soup was flavourful! I’m not always a fan of sweet chicken but Except this one! Everything was good! Definitely will comeback again!

Not authentic Chinese food. But very popular and you have to wait for roughly 30 minutes to get in during weekend. The dumpling is super good and tastes great. Their famous dish is the fried chicken wing with special sauce. The skin is very crispy and tasty. We also ordered the green beans. It is just so so. Not recommended.

Legendary Shandong-specialty on Irving — similar in taste to Korean-Chinese cooking. Famous for #71 Original Dry Fried Chicken wings (sweet and soy sauce savory) (깐풍기), the same crunch and seasoning comes on calamari (깐풍오징어) or shrimp (깐풍새우). Noodles are a specialty: chewy yet thin, not doughy. #6 Dry Black Bean Sauce Noodles (삼선 간짜장면) and #11 Combination Spicy Soup Noodles (삼선 짬뽕), both excellent. Don’t let the wait scare you off; to-go pick up to enjoy at home, also an option. **only comment is overall flavor palette veers toward the sweet side — even for stir-fried green beans

My niece came from the East coast to check out UCSF and do some research on the housing situation since she was accepted by the medical school for a residency. I saw this restaurant while I was looking around the surrounding area on Google Maps. On Saturday, 3/27, four of us came to this restaurant at 11:45 AM. We were seated right away. We ordered some dumplings, pot-stickers, a pork dish, and a beef dish. While I was looking over the menu to choose a chicken dish, the waitress reminded me that the restaurant is famous for its dry fried chicken wings so I ordered one. Everything was delicious. I noticed that every table ordered the chicken dish. Price was very reasonable. All these dishes came to $85.00, before tip. All service persons were very friendly. By the time we left the restaurant, around 12:45 PM, there was a line waiting for tables. Will definitely come back when I'm in the area.

Still the standard bearer for fantastic dry fried chicken wings. Extensive menu. All the dishes we’ve sampled in our visits there were good, especially the fried rice which easily feeds 3-4 pax (or 2 hungry people).

My 1st time coming here super lit and all I have to say is this is the best place is the best place that I've ever eaten in my entire life when it comes to Chinese food, I would absolutely say that this place has the best chicken wings that I've ever tasted in my mouth very soon very sweet tea with a wonderful kick of garlic I would absolutely say that this place has the best chicken wings that I've ever tasted in my mouth very soon very sweet tea with a wonderful kick of garlic Ginger Sweet honey sauce with white pepper. As you look around you will see other people ordering the chicken wings, I suggest you do the same.

I have been waiting to post this restuarant. We normally drive 2 hours to get here and we eat here maybe once a month plus we wait in line 45 minutes every time. Today we went for lunch only waited 15 minute (dinner is the longer wait) that was a shock. I will say everything is really good but what you must order is the Dry Fired Chicken that is a MUST. Its crispy, sweet, little sour, I dont know how to describe it but it is delicious. We we order 2m1 to 2 plates (12 wings each plate). Every table has orders of it and thats what they are know for. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Staff members know us because we eat there so much and they are very nice but very busy. Here is a Tip, they have San Tung #2 guest where it's at next door. That should tell you how good they are. They had to open another restaurant but they put it next door 🙂. I tell you this because if the line is long at #1 go to #2 . 3💜

Worth coming back every single time. Potstickers 🥟 are out of this world. Pork or veggie options, both are delicious. Actually, every dish here hasn’t disappointed at all.

R

This place by far has the best wings I may have ever had! I have not tried a lot of of their other dishes besides the green beans which are also delicious, but the must try are the wings on the bone I assume the other wings are also delicious too! The wait can be pretty crazy, but put your name down and go grab a coffee from around the corner. Not super friendly on the inside but the wings are so good it's doesn't matter and they are fast!

Everyone comes for the amazing dry fried chicken wings! Prepare for a long wait unless you come before opening. The space is very crowded and tight but it's a great spot to eat! Enjoy!

Expect to have to wait to eat here. We went on a Friday at 5.15pm and still had to wait about 40 mins. Tables turnover very quickly and food comes out without too much wait. The food, especially the fried chicken wings are top notch and very authentic taste. The beef noodle soup is also top! The only downside to the restaurant (besides the wait) is the place is packed very tightly so people are all very close to each other. Another downer, but not related to the restaurant, is that parking is very difficult to find.

V
Viju Shamanna

Great taste, quick service and a lively atmosphere. Bit of a wait (around 20 mins on a Friday evening) but will surely come back for more. This is now our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area!!

F
Frank Jang

Busy restaurant. Get there early or a wait time. Parking is difficult in the area with roadworks during lunch. Every table was ordering their classic San Tung chicken wings. It has a sweet tangy thick honey like sauce on it. You will not be disappointed. Service is fast & efficient. Lots of staff working on the floor & kitchen. They do not rush you to leave after you finish your meal. But I'm sure when you get the bill at the end of the meal. It's a hint. Mostly younger clientele and not a lot of older Asian crowd. That is an indication of who are their core customers.

I was only in SF for 72 hours and this place was so good I had to get it twice. The chicken wings are a MUST have, as well as the three deluxe spicy sauce noodles.

I've heard great things about San Tung, especially their wings. A pro tip is to order takeout to skip the weekend lines. I tried the Original Dry Chicken Wings, which were coated in a sweet garlic sauce with some chilies on top. They were crispy from the double fry, flavorful without being too salty or sweet, and not dry at all.

K

The original dry fried wings were amazing! Very tasty, crispy and the sauce was unique, can’t compare it to anything I’ve ever had. Service was friendly and fast

P

Authentic Korean-San Tung cuisine in SF area. It is a huge challenge to keep up the standard and quality in these many years in business. The taste is off a bit especially the deep fried honey wings, but I think they manage it quite well, and it is still our favorite restaurant whenever we are in SF. Many others Northeastern dishes are all above-average such as dumplings, steamed or pan-fried, and noodles. Parking is pretty tough here but it worths the wait.

M
Michelle Rogoyski

San Dong's chicken is so good you'll have trouble stopping. Worth the wait. (Be prepared to wait an hour or possibly more if you come at peak times (probably better to come early)).

Best chinese food outside Chinatown. The dry fried chicken wings is the go to order better yet any anything dry fried is awesome. They offer a lot of fresh noodle item such as noodles with black bean sauce also a lot of variations of soup, I tried the hot and sour soup and nobody can top this . It a must to come back to try other things on the menu. The best thing is the staff was very helpful and accommodating.

I recently visited San Tung and was immediately struck by the lively and noisy ambiance. It was a good kind of noisy, though, adding to the excitement of the place. The indoor seating is ample and comfortable, making it a great spot for groups of friends or families. The staff at San Tung was also incredibly kind and accommodating. Even though the waitlist had technically stopped, they were kind enough to take us in and make sure we had a great dining experience. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled with the flavorful options available at San Tung. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious! The Egg Rolls and Garlic Flavored Eggplant were particularly standout dishes, and the Vegetable Chow Mein was also excellent. While the Vegetable Pot Stickers weren't quite as flavorful as the other dishes, they were still quite tasty. Overall, I highly recommend San Tung for anyone looking for a lively and flavorful dining experience. The staff is wonderful, the ambiance is exciting, and the vegetarian options are sure to satisfy. Here's a breakdown of what I ordered: Egg Rolls [5/5] Garlic Flavored Eggplant [5/5] Vegetable Chow Mein [5/5] Vegetable Pot Stickers [4/5]

The gan (dry) jajangmyun comes with a darker sauce and perfectly cooked seafood. Absolutely loved it. Hefty portion size too. The dry fried boneless chicken was super sweet and sticky. I didn't like the chicken as much this time but overall still solid.

Luckily I came here at weekdays lunch and waiting for about 10 mins. Finally I ordered the Original Dry Fried Chicken Wings. Best! Those are deep fried in batter with garlic, ginger, and red peppers. One of San Tung’s signature dishes that everyone orders. Sauce is a little sweet and slightly zesty. These come piping hot out of the kitchen and need to be eaten quickly. Other dish I can't describe what the name but taste really good for everything here. Fried rice, fried fish, and also the cherry pork. Love this place. They also giving a great service and the price is fair.

San Tung! The staple! I believe this was my first time dining in. Otherwise, I've had takeout quite a few times when I visit the city. We ordered: -original dry fried chicken: must order...since it's what they are known for! Crispy, and full of flavor! -dry sauteed string beans: fried well, fresh greens -combination chow mein: good eats! Came by for Friday lunch. Luckily we were sat immediately, but got busy super quick. They do add on an extra processing charge for credit cards. Street parking only. Come early or do takeout! Although, turnover is pretty quick. Probably won't wait super long.

was just here about 4 weeks ago. The chicken wings are no joke. It comes in one flavor only which is a special house chili sauce. the chicken was juicy, soft, tender, and the portions are huge. it comes in 12 and the wings are huge. The fried rice is very good as well and the portion is huge also. Great for dinner, lunch, and if you want something to eat while watching your shows or movies. These wings are it. By far the best wings I've had from any chinese spot. Chinese restaurants around the US cant make wings like san tung can.

P
Peter Jo

Hands down the best Asian style dry fried chicken wings ever. Coated in this sweet and spicy sauce, you will want to lick it off from the plate. Chicken wings are crispy and tender and San Tung never seems to fail me. Chicken fried rice is superb, and you taste that wok flavor. Pan fried dumplings are made in house and are huge. Juicy and delicious. Only complaints have to be the long wait and how prices have gone up. In the end, the food is worth the money.

came on a thursday afternoon for dinner nearly right after they opened & didn’t have to wait for a table because we were willing to share tables. otherwise, the restaurant seemed pretty packed & if you wanted a separate table, there could be a wait. service was quick & food came out very fast! we ordered the black bean noodles, chicken wings, and string beans. everything was flavorful and very delicious. i’d give san tung a 4.5/5 if i could! however, i did think the chicken wings were a bit too salty on their own, so maybe it would’ve been better balanced if we ordered a side of rice with it. nonetheless, i enjoyed the dinner i had here & it lives up to the hype! 🍗🤤

Best chicken wings in the Bay! Walked up to San rung and a line was out the door so I knew we went to the right place to eat. If you have to wait your instructed to write your name on the white board and they accommodate the parties on room and size. We were sat with other people which was nice for a change. I enjoyed all the food that we ordered and will be back.

Best chicken wings in the city! Definitely pair them with black bean sauce noodles, a side of hot and sour soup and walnut prawns. Delicious! Expect a long at peak hours.

One of the best quick casual chinese spots I've had in San Francisco. Big portions, authentic chinese, and quick turnaround. It does get busy during peak hours but it's worth the wait. The dry chicken wings are a must if you come here.

Best hole in the wall fried chicken in SF! We always order 2 orders of it. Stop browsing and go try it yourself. Wait time can range from 45mins to 1 hr. Quick service so people get in and out.

Came here with local friends that have been here many times before. There was a little bit of a line, but I took it as a good sign that the restaurant is in demand. Sizzling rice soup — puffed rice poured into the soup upon serving added interesting texture (and a bit of heartiness and chewiness once it softened). The mushrooms were great. Original dry fried chicken — first bite was heavenly. Subsequent bites felt sweeter and sweeter. I don’t have a huge sweet tooth. The honey sauce it came with could’ve made this a dessert. Dry sautéed green beans — awesome. Garlic eggplant — awesome. Curry chicken, and fried rice — good but not particularly memorable compared to the other dishes.

We arrived and were sat about 30 minutes later. A waitress appeared immediately and asked for our order. It was our first time, so we asked that she come back, which she did a few minutes later. . We got the dry fried wings, dry fried green beans, and dry black bean noodles. We started with the oolong tea that was provided at the table. . All the food was excellent, but we most enjoyed the wings. Truly delicious. The green beans were great too, very flavorful with a solid crunch. The noodles were good, but we'll swap them out for something else next time. . A minor nit is that as westerners, we eat chicken wings with our fingers. The wings were super sticky and our fingers got coated. There wasn't a wet nap or anything to unstick them. . Overall, this was a really good lunch experience.

My second time here and the wait is so worth it. Of course, the original dry fried chicken is a MUST here. It's a great balance of crispiness, sweet and savory, and sauciness. I love their seasoning on this! This time around, we also ordered the vegetable fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, and green beans. Outside of the chicken, the green beans are the runner up of everything I've tried. Nicely sautéed and garlicky! Is the wait long? Yes, sometimes. For a group of 3, it was around 30-45 minutes on a Sunday at ~2pm, but it's sooo worth it. I will definitely be back! Service: 5/5 Food/Drinks: 5/5 Price: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Loved the place. Not anything fancy but good food. I was so happy when I was able to order salt & pepper shrimp, which wasn’t on the menu. Their wings are definitely great - crispy and flavorful. Great portions and loved the casual atmosphere.

Man it has been too long glad the family decided to come here brings back so many good memories we didn't realize we miss their food. They are still busy so that was not a surprise for our group. Personally the black bean noodles and leek dumplings are still my favorite here while the crew notoriously loves their dry chicken wings

A

This place gets busy but the food is soooooo good!! I’ve waited hours to eat here and it’s worth it every time. I really be having the patience just to eat here lol. Our go to order is their dry friend chicken but I prefer to order mines diced so I can eat it faster! We also always order the green beans and black bean noodles. I also enjoy the kimchi they serve when you dine in. It’s always a solid eat here. If we order it to go I always ask to separate the sauce and put it together at home. Their chicken is unmatched.

Wow first time I heard about it from my sister I was amazed by how pack it is and people are on waiting list to get in there, we ordered the pepper chicken wings and the sauce chicken wings it was delicious and the noodle which haven’t try it yet. I will definitely go back and tell a lot of my friends to go that spot I didn’t know that spot is so popular. For sure I will go dine in next time if I don’t have to be in a rush. The customer service was nice it was a young guy help me out and tell me how popular it is and what day is good to go.

Came on a Sunday night and there was a long line. The wait is well worth it. Definitely one of the most delicious Chinese restaurants in the bay area. The wings are a must as it has a reputation for being the best. All the other dishes we ordered were also so good, we loved everything! A favorite at the table was the Cherry pork which is very tasty and was pretty comparable to the chicken wings. The dry black bean noodles is also a must but overall everything was delicious and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Update 1/10/25: I really wanted some good tasty wings. I did a Google search for hrs and found barely anything. A bit a of transparency.. I'm from Brooklyn and I really was looking for Chinese wings like what I reminded. However, The Bay had nothing close...lol. So, my wife and I decided to go back to this spot because out of all the wings I've had since residing here.. these are so freaking good. We got here around 2 (About a 30 min wait). They close at 3pm and then reopen later for dinner I'm guessing. We ordered chicken wings, string beans and shrimp fried rice. We didn't even talk the whole meal.. that's how good it was lml. This spot hits!! So good as all the reviews have stated. We were not disappointed. If you go... go early. This place was packed and had plenty of people waiting to get in. We got our food to go.

The hype is real -- order the chicken wings and the green beans. Chicken wings were hot, perfectly fried, deliciously crunchy, salty/spicy/sweet - probably one of the best chicken wings I've had. Green beans were perfectly cooked - dry fried with just the right snap to it. We also ordered the black bean noodle and I would say that was too saucy for my taste. The boiled dumplings were good but not the best I've had - perhaps the fried potstickers would be better and something we would try the next time. Service was very attentive, efficient and helpful. Would definitely come back again

It's packed and it may take bit to be seated. You write your name and party size on the white board. The dry fried chicken wings are the best chicken wings I've had. Juicy and crunchy with a nice sweet glaze. The green beans, dry black bean sauce noodles, and hot braised chicken were all good but the dry fried chicken wings were the standout!

Believe the hype! This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in all of San Francisco. The chicken wings here are the best I've ever had in my life. Tip: Always arrive 30 minutes before they open as they're known for having lines out the door.

Yummmm.....mee. The chicken was everything that is raved about. It was sticky, sweet, and Spicey. It was on every table in the restaurant. My favorite dish was, however, the eggplant with a tasty sauce. We got there fairly early at 4:30 on a Monday. By the time we left there was a line.

Best chicken wings in town! Super recommend their string beans and sour soup as well. They get busy, don't take reservations and wait times can be pretty long. Best time to check it out is weekday lunch time. Usually no wait. Even with the wait, highly recommend them. Although they have improved a lot in the past few years, just don't expect much in terms of service. Flag a server when they are passing by and make your request.

My group arrived there around 5pm and it was packed. However, the wait wasn’t too bad and we ended up waiting about 15 minutes. Service was fast and efficient. There was a total of 3 people including myself in the group and we ordered the string beans, Mongolian beef, black bean noodles, and chicken wings. My boyfriend was going to order more, but the server stopped him to say that the items we ordered was enough! Thankfully, we listened to him and stopped ordering because we had leftovers after! Food came out quickly. This spot is a must try!!! The chicken wings had a perfect texture; crispy and airy on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside. The sauce on those wings are chef’s kiss! The black bean noodles had a bit of beef, shrimp, and squid in it. The string beans and Mongolian beef were also very tasty. I will definitely be coming back for more!

Delicious food. Had some really cool Korean-Chinese and northern Chinese dishes that aren't the easiest to find in the Bay Area. Really saucy noodle dishes with a delectable mix of flavors that weren't too bold, but still very fulfilling. Went on a Sunday afternoon around 4-5 PM. Very busy. Service was mediocre and it seemed like they were tryna rush us, but I guess it makes sense given they had a massive wait as usual.

We got takeout to eat outside in the nice weather right before they ended their lunch shift. The wings are as good as everyone says they are. Crispy and flavorful sauce. The black bean noodles are packed with seafood and meat. The hot and sour soup is perfectly balanced and peppery with lots of high quality ingredients. Overall very impressed with their execution of chinese American classics, the flavors are top notch.

I visited San Tung on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30 PM, and the place was packed. We had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. The atmosphere inside was lively and a bit loud, but judging by the crowd both waiting outside and dining in, it's clear the food is well-loved. We ordered the original dry fried chicken wings, which were delicious. They were perfectly crispy with a sweet and spicy flavor. I noticed that when you take them to go and reheat them, the spice comes through even more. We also tried the dry black bean sauce noodles, and they really stood out. The flavor was bold and intense in the best way, and the dish was loaded with seafood like shrimp, calamari, and scallops. I really liked it. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely worth the wait.

We came here on a weekend afternoon. The line was super long and we waited about an hour before getting in. The servers were very nice and fast. We had to sit on a big table with someone else, but that wasn’t an issue. They were able to recognize the dishes even though we sat together. The interior looks like a typical old Chinese restaurant, but you can tell that it was cleaned and taken care of. The food was served very fast and fresh. It’s crispy and just seasoned correctly and authentic. The price is so cheap considering the inflation. It’s popular for a reason. We ended up taking out a lot because we ordered too much. The portion was so big.

famous for the dry chicken wings and rightfully so! these were great and perfectly crispy, however, i do think they’re a little overhyped. overall, satisfying chinese food! - service was prompt, considering how busy they were. waited around 40min at 730pm on a Saturday. I would get there a little earlier to make sure you can make the waitlist before they close it. - well priced! good value for all the dishes - dry chicken wings: perfectly crispy and saucy but flavor profile was a little 1 dimensional which disappointed me a little. a must try still though - green beans: not really good tbh, expected more but it ended up being pretty bland. good portions though - hot and sour soup: as expected in a good way. exactly what I needed on a cold evening and they didn’t skimp on the toppings - braised chicken: liked the variety of veggies to balance the meats but the wings were kinda soggy. - black bean noodles: would skip. lacked some flavor but noodles were cooked well.

Must have caught this place just right because our wait for lunch was only a few minutes. Our meal: Hot and Sour Soup - instant tongue burn with not much flavor for me. Husband liked it. Steamed pork dumplings - The star of the meal. Big and packed with meat. Great flavor. Shredded pork and garlic - tasty, not terribly spicy but it had good flavor. Cherry pork - lightly breaded chunks of pork that were sadly drowned in a sickeningly sweet sauce. Portions are generous and the service is fast (it's quite obvious they strive to turn tables as fast as possible).

Tried their famous wings. It was good but definitely over hyped. It has a similar taste to those korean garlic chicken spot. Food overall was good but the waiting in that long line was dreadful.

The dry wings they’re famous for are a bit sweet for my taste and a bit sweet for Chinese style fried chicken wings. It’s by all means not bad at all. I’ve just had better Chinese style fried chicken wings in NY (congee village in Manhattan Chinatown for example and they weren’t even know for these!). Not worth waiting in line in my opinion but I’d definitely eat here if there was no wait

Thought it was fitting to take my children to this famed restaurant given the news of Bourdain's death. His contribution to exposing an eclectic array of foods is what I will remember of him. Order: famed dry fried chicken, walnut shrimp and pork dumplings. Verdict: Chicken--plump and juicy...however too sweet for my own personal liking. Wish they were also cooked a little more crisp. Walnut Shrimp- perfect. My children scarfed them up and the balance of the mayo based sauced and spices were very tasty. The walnuts were perfectly toasted and coated! Dumplings-- oh my. What a delight!! Homemade and the wrapper was not thick. Next time we will try the shrimp. Overall a good experience. Expect a wait...the line is long. However we were seated fairly quickly and the service was exceptional.

known for their crispy sweet fried chicken and stir fried string beans, i was glad to finally try out san tung. came at 11:05am on a saturday and was seated immediately. by the time we left, there was a wait though. looking through reviews, most people rave about the chicken and string beans. we also ordered a tomato beef chow mien. TLDR; overall, the food tasted good. if you like sweeter dishes, you would like san tung- it was a bit too sweet for me though. would i wait over an hour and pay $17.50 again for 12 pieces though? probably not. // original dry fried chicken ($17.50 for 12 pcs) // this fried chicken tastes like a cross between korean and chinese. they have a sweet glaze but are very crispy and satisfying to eat. tasty, though maybe a bit on the sweeter side and pieces are small to medium size. // dry sauteed string beans ($16.00) // these tasted good but quite sweet compared to the spicy or savory stir fried string beans i am used to at authentic chinese restaurants. i wish they had a bit of spice to compliment the sweetness. // tomato beef chow mein ($17.00) // this dish was the most underwhelming of the three. we opted for the +$1 homemade fresh noodles: these were chewy but very thin, not the wide flat noodles we are used to in chow mein. the dish also just has a few wedges of tomato: if you are looking for the saucy added tomato flavor, this dish is not that. overall, i felt that this dish lacked flavor. it was an okay noodle dish, but an underwhelming chow mein. also, they incorrectly charged us $17.00 on our bill.

Got there before they opened and there was already a long line waiting. Fried rice was delicious and the wings almost met the hype (great but not amazing). Pot stickers were alright, they were too big and not fully cooked. Do expect a wait on your food to be ready after ordering and limited space to navigate as it gets pack.

San Tung! Totally worth the hype. Small and cozy restaurant where they serve one of the best chicken wings in entire san francisco. The hot sauce on the table is amazing and goes perfectly well with the honey glazed chicken. We order hot and sour soup and wonton soup as well. The chicken fried rice was nicely cooked and flavourful. The seping rolls did let us down a bit but overall we were satisfied and loved the entire experience. It is also pretty budget friendly and you can have a decent meal with your family/friends

Yeah you already know. This is probably one of the best Chinese spots in SF. Great food. The wings. Oh my gosh, the wings. They are sweet and have great flavor to them chicken. Sweet chicken wings may sound a little weird, actually I think they are sort of normal. I liked the noodles and the soup was good. To be honest, I could say the names but I have no clue how to spell the dishes and I am going to greatly butcher them. Tenjangjigge. That’s my attempt at the spicy soup. Jajameoung. That’s another attempt at this black noodle dish. The rice was good, service was decent. The atmosphere was good as well, nice spot a little out of the chaos of 9th and Irving, would highly recommend.

Every table here has the dry fried wings. They also used to have "wet fried" wings (what happened to those?) that are no longer in the menu. They come out super hot and are guaranteed to burn your mouth. Be warned that if you order the lunch size (6 wings) they skimp and give you much smaller pieces, although taste is pretty much the same. Potstickers are house made, huge and very good. Lots of ginger flavor! The menu concept is actually Korean-Chinese food with some items from Shandong ("San Tung"). The famous wings are described in the menu as 깐뿡기and they serve a "black bean noodle" that appears to be their version of 짜장면.

You need to enter and write your Name and Number of guests in your party on the whiteboard. We had to wait about 40 minutes on a Sunday night and were one of the last to be seated. We ordered the Original chicken wings, string beans, pot stickers, dry fried shrimp, hot and sour soup, and bean sauce noodles. The dishes came out quickly. The chicken wings and dry fried shrimp came out with similar, sweet/savory glazes. This restaurant uses a lot of sugar in their recipes. Pot stickers were huge, but not juicy, as I had expected. They almost remind me of Shen Jiang Bao in Shanghai. The waitstaff were all very sweet and accommodating. Food is just better than ordinary for me. Nothing really outstanding. Might try again for pickup instead of waiting for a table. Prices are reasonable for San Francisco.

I've been hearing the hype around this place for a while now but haven't gone until today. We went on Sunday for lunch shortly after it opened and did not have to wait. Service was super attentive, so there were no complaints there. We got the original dry fried chicken wings, dry sauteed string beans, and the wonton soup. Everything tasted good. The wonton soup tasted homely with its vegetables. In summary, it is above average in terms of taste, but I personally do not think I will make a trip out just for it.

Fried rice was very tasty. Texture and umami levels were spot on. The garlic eggplant was also very good. The filling in the veggie potstickers was yummy but the wrapper kept falling apart. I could be a noob though.

San Tung in San Francisco is a must-visit if you love comforting Chinese food with big flavor. The food comes out hot and fresh, and the dry fried chicken wings are definitely the star — crispy, savory, and super addictive. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable for the city, and the casual no-frills vibe makes it feel authentic and welcoming. Service is quick and efficient, which is perfect when you’re craving something delicious without a long wait. Overall, a solid spot for tasty, satisfying comfort food in SF.

i decided to try this place out after hearing people rave about the chicken wings online, and they definitely deserve the hype 👌 me and my friends got the dry fried chicken, black bean noodles, and sauted string beans, and we absolutely devoured them (as you can see from the photo) everything was delicious and well seasoned but not too salty only thing i have to say are the vegetables are a little bit on the higher end, with the green beans being about the same price as the chicken and noodles (~$17), but other than that no complaints!

Last time I came here was many, many years ago and the lines weren’t as crazy as it was coming this time around. The food is solid, no doubt. But is it worth waiting 1.5+? I don’t think so, personally. It just comes to show how deprived SF is of good jungsik food, cause a place like this is a dime a dozen all over SoCal. But still, respect to this place serving up a million dishes a minute, while keeping prices accessible.

The OG chicken wings haven't changed a bit over the past 15 years I've been coming here. High in fat and MSG but oh so delicious. You can make same day reservations for parties of 6 or more if needed.

The fried chicken is definitely a hit! Something you should give a try, The fried chicken looks like a lot, but my boyfriend and I finished all of it, while the other dishes ended up with leftovers. The chicken was so good that the rest felt a bit average by comparison. Be careful with the soup though, it’s way too salty for my taste. The eggplant is good, but quite oily, so it really depends on whether you’re into that. The noodles are solid with a heavy flavor

I've been here a few times, but the last time was before the pandemic. The food is as I remembered. The dishes are good. Everything came out hot and fast. I would say the longest wait time for one of our dishes was 10 mins. The parking situation is just like how I remembered it. Very limited. We circled a few times but eventually found parking a couple of blocks away. We ordered the popular dishes which includes the dry chicken wings, dumplings, garlic green beans, and the black bean noodles. We also ordered the fried fish. We thought the black bean noodles were on the salty side. Overall a solid 4 stars.

Dry fried chicken flavor was good, meat a bit dry and overcooked. Used to be very juicy inside and crispy outside. String beans were excellent. Pot stickers and black bean noodles were also very good. Lots of meat and seafood in the black bean noodles. Long line outside and put your name on the sign in board. The line moved pretty fast. Servers were efficient seating customers.

Just a heads up, waits could take up to an hour sometimes. I specifically came here for “Americas Fried Chicken” and I left disappointed. It’s just normal chicken with a bunch of overly sweet sauce. Also, I got their Mongolian beef and wasn’t too impressed. Definitely think there is better Chinese food in SF.

J
Jane Dough

Overall a decent place for food but is not worth the wait (~25 mins at lunch time on a Saturday). Expect the wings to take a while. They were good but not special by any means, a bit too sweet & syrupy for you to taste the other ingredients. Eggplant was soft and not too salty.

J
Jim Chan

Unlike before, the food quality seemed to have gone down. The signature chicken did not have the same taste and spicy kick to it like before. It tasted more like the "non spicy" version that my friend used to order. The steamed dumplings also were not as tasty and flavorful like before. The fillings seemed to have changed. The place is still as crowded as ever though.

N
Naythan Rasquinha

My experience at San Tung was average overall. The tables were crammed together, and I kept getting bumped into while trying to enjoy my hot and sour soup, which was a bit frustrating. We tried the lunch special, which included white rice and a stir fry with chicken, scallops, shrimp, and veggies. The stir fry was decent but nothing spectacular. We also had the pork and leek dumplings, which were okay but didn’t stand out. If you’re looking for a quick bite, it’s an option, but the tight space made it less enjoyable for me.

M
Mel Nguyen

We waited 45 minutes to be seated. We ordered the Dry Fried Chicken Wings and Vegetable Egg Rolls. I would order the former before the latter. The Dry Fried Chicken Wings will burn you on its way out if you know what I mean. The service was ok.

The wings are amazing, don’t get me wrong. They are an overly sweet, super crispy, Asian inspired savory glazed donut of a chicken wing. It’s a delicious combo although you do feel the sugar crash after. I also wish they were a bit less sweet and more spicy/savory but that’s just a preference. The main problem with this place is it’s just chaos. The table system is not well thought out, you just write your name on a white board and stand outside hoping for the best. The phone ordering is even worse, you need to pickup on the back corner walking through the jam packed resultant and sometimes grumpy employees (which I understand given the chaos inside). I was told 45 minutes, arrived in 50 minutes, paid and told 5 more, came back in 10 minutes and was told 15-20 more minutes. Finally the food was ready and I feel empathy for all the employees dealing with the crowds and constant questions but they really need to help themselves and implement some organization in here. Otherwise, great dry fried wings and their menu overall is fairly tasty. If you have time to kill it’s certainly worth a try and I recommend this place to anyone, but it’s not a life changing wing as others say.

What happened to this place? Have not been here for a while and the food quality has dropped. The chicken is dry and too sweet. The noodles are not the same as before, use to be hand pulled noodles. Even on Sunday noon there are empty tables where they use to be an hour wait. After maybe 20 yrs of coming here, this might be the last time.

This place is good, but definitely not great. Even if it didn't regularly have really long lines, which I don't get, I still would not go often or even return. I do, however, really enjoy their cold sesame noodles. That said, there are many other really good games in town. After another visit: I've been to San Tung 3 times, but I won't get duped by positive reviews or lines out the door again and won't return. We had to write our name on the board, wait for a bit, and for what? Seriously, what are people raving about and waiting for?!? Has the cult of San Tung brainwashed that many people? The look, feel, service (indifferent), and food (meh) are mediocre at best. especially in SF, where there is *much* better food in lots of places, even some nearby ones. Noodle dishes have been OK here, pot stickers large but not great, tofu with bean threads funny tasting and I didn't even take home the leftovers (when the food is really good somewhere, there's less likely to be leftovers, but if there are, I would most certainly snatch it and savor it the next day). The free little plate of spicy kim chee was the best part of the meal by far! I don't get it, but at least I won't get it again. 2024 update: I don’t know why I thought to give it another chance, but I made that mistake again. Service was fine, food was meh at best. The mu shu vegetable was alright though not great, the veggie dumplings were interesting but I don’t need more, and the eggplant in garlic sauce was undercooked and crunchy, way too oily, and not flavorful. I liked the white rice.

Decent american chinese food. Don’t come if you’re expecting anything remotely close to authentic northern chinese cuisine. San Tung Noodles: Some kind of Korean gochujang flavored noodles that tasted meh. Pork Dumplings: Dumpling skin was a tad soggy and meat fillings were tasteless. Fried Chicken: Wayyyy too sweet. Jellyfish: I expected clear jellyfish but what we got was nothing like that. Service: Abrupt and not helpful.

SanTung 山東小館 is located on Irving Street (between 11th and 12th Avenue) in the City’s Inner Suset neighborhood. There are always lines being formed as early as partially close to 5 pm and it would get worse on weekends (usually young people in their 20s or 30s couples or in groups sometimes with families through my observation. [Note: SanTung closes on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Also, I have noted that they have taken weeks long vacation at least once thanks to their internet fame that beckoned “large following” relentlessly aiming to achieve the vanity in pursuing such a fame without substances.] After more than one month of attempting to enter I finally made my way to SanTung on a Monday morning before noon. I ordered Chǎomǎmiàn(炒碼麵) (Jjamppong) as I normally would do at SanWang, another SanTung style Chinese Korean restaurant located on Post Street in the heart of Japantown, albeit it was my first time in this average Google rating of 4.4* restaurant. The overall environment in comparison to SanWang is that seating area is smaller but clean and boisterous when it gets crowded. There is no complimentary "Panchan" side dish of Kimchi or Kkakdugi served but hot tea. The noodles were served rather quickly perhaps the crowds have not yet arrived. The noodles itself were actually pretty good and the soup was also decent albeit lacked spiciness and seafood flavor. The ingredients are cheesy: a few small pieces of Calamari and literally 3 pieces of small “farm raised Mexican white” (possibly size 41/50 the best that’s exactly what I have been preaching for you to “raising the eyebrows” on any dish at any Asian restaurants over 20 or 30 dollars for two or three small farm raised tasteless shrimps. 🤦) Moreover, slices beef served in the noodles appeared to be made by “water injection,” which is stereotype Chinese restaurant cooking technique for “stir fry” to enhance moisture and tenderness. However, the genuineness of the taste of beef is compromised. More importantly, these water injected beef can be used in “multi-task” fashion cooking for different dishes. [Note: “While water injection is a common practice, it's important to be aware of potential concerns related to food quality and safety. Over-injection can lead to a loss of meat quality and texture, and some individuals may be sensitive to added salt or other ingredients,” according to AI.] In sum, imhv the real gastronomical test regardless of “social media” fame should be solely based on the quality, freshness, and originality of ingredients, the skill and creativity in preparation, the authenticity, as well as balance and harmony of flavors, presentation, service, and value for money that you spent for your plate. Regrettably, my skepticism about “social media frenzy” restaurants becomes yet another sad reality. [Note: I would rate SanTung 3* the most but chose 2* merely for the noodles that I ordered in comparison to 4* of the same noodles that I ordered at SanWang.] As always, that is my candid yet unbiased “two cents” to humbly hopefully guide you to “bang for the buck.”

This place just isn't that good. I've lived nearby for 4 years, and been many times. I love Chinese food, Cantonese food, Shandong food (I've been to Shandong several times!) and I just really don't understand why this place is crowded. The popular chicken dish is just way too sweet, it should be called sugar chicken. It's got so much bone in it that is not really worth the effort to eat it. Just go eat dessert instead, it'll be easier and probably have the same amount of sugar. The service and atmosphere is fine, that's generally not what you come here for. But in recent years there's been an insane crowd around here all the time. It's pretty frustrating how they block the sidewalk and don't have much regard for people who live in the area. I've seen lots of these people _drive_ to the restaurant. Take the muni!!! Anyway, go to basically any other Chinese restaurant in the city, and you'll have a better time.
