It was our first time in Panama and a friend recommended that we go here. The food was sooooo good. We had the patties, both beef and pork. I preferred the beef, only because I'm not a huge fan of BBQ sauce. The pork tasted like it was made with BBQ sauce. If it was more savory, I would probably enjoyed it more. We also had the ceviche, the clams, and finished with a pear mamallena. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful with little surprise fried squid on top, served with plantain chips. The clams were served with a coconut curry sauce. The mamallena was a surprise I didn't know I needed. I likened it to bread pudding in pie form but I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding, but definitely a fan of this. They paired it with vanilla ice cream and a crunchy crumble. It was my favorite part of the meal. All of the flavors went well together and the crunchy crumble added a slightly salty texture. It was perfect. If we lived there, I'm sure I would eat here at least once a week.
The service was outstanding. The atmosphere was very pleasing and enjoyable. I thought it was going to be hot, but the fans made sitting outdoors very comfortable..The food was totally delicious. I had the oxtail stew. Oh my, was it good. I wanted to return the next day. I tasted the jerk chicken also. It wasn’t too spicy and the seasoning was perfect. I can’t wait to return.
La Tapa Del Coco was absolutely one of the best restaurants in San Francisco, Panama area. The service here is impeccable - from the greeter to the waiters/waitresses. They were all extremely attentive even though it was a busy night - packed with folks from the inside to the outdoor seating area. We were celebrating our 16 year Anniversary and were delighted that we chose this place. The food is top tier here. We had the Whole Sea Bass fish with Coconut Rice and peas, Maduros (sweet plaintains) and cole slaw. We also tried the Cod fritters (dipped in their blackberry/habenero sauce) which were delectable as well. The Coconut fish soup and the pickled pig feet/pig tails were an exotic treat and did not disappoint. The coconut lime drink and the Sabril with ginger pair well with any of the dishes. They also have a nice bar for those who enjoy libations. We are definitely putting La Tapa Del Coco on our list of "must-haves" when in Panama!
Caribbean cuisine at another level! We had Salted Cod Fritters with dipping sauces, One Pot Colonense, and Catch of the Day Fillet (Corvina). Great service, friendly staff, fair prices. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Parking across the street from the venue. We will certainly be back!
Chef Issac and team is amazing. This place was super exciting with its energy and top notch food choices. I highly recommend this restaurant when in Panamá city. You won't be disappointed and most importantly its one of the top restaurants in the whole Latin America!
I will be back! The food is full of flavor and the service is attentive and knowledgeable. The ceviche is phenomenal and they prepare a very special dish... One Pot Colonense... that is sublime. The delicious combination of flavors is hard to describe. If you're in Panama City you definitely want to stop in.
The service and food were excellent! We were concerned with not making a reservation. However, upon arrival, we were immediately seated. Everything we had was so delicious and perfectly flavored.
Excellent Panamanian tapas restaurant with a very authentic atmosphere. The empanadas and ceviche were outstanding, full of flavor. Good selection of drinks and excellent value for money. Highly recommended.
This place lives up to its reputation. Everything was phenomenal!! I wanted to go back the next night. My only issue was i wish the jerk chicken and the beef patty had a little more spice to them. I'd have to give them both a 9/10, but with a little added spice they would be perfect
One of the best restaurants in the city. I tried multiple dishes across multiple meals and all were amazing. The one pot is highly recommended
Awesome vibes! Excellent service. Good range of menu variety with intricate and differing flavours. Best sorrel margarita. A must visit restaurant in Panama!
The house bread is TO DIE FOR. The most crunchy, perfectly salted, buttery bread. The food is delicious. The service is fast. One of the best in Panama!
Walking into La Tapa Del Coco felt as if i was walking into a family gathering. It was packed, there were tables outside filled with people and happy laughs echoed throughout the restaurant. Then inside which is a little small was filled to capacity. I sat by the kitchen and my one intention was to try the souse as we all do it differently in the Caribbean. A friend also recommended I tried the patty. So all together I had the souse, the chiccaron and american cheese patty and the fluffy dinner rolls. Although the souse is labeled as a small dish, it is so filling and the fluffy rolls live rent free in my head. Finally the patty was chef's kiss. This restaurant has perfectly captured the traditions of afro households across the world and made it theirs. Kudos to the owner and the chef.
Food and service 10/10. Highly recommend. The owner is extremely friendly as well. As a Caribbean with high expectations this blew it out the park for me. Will be back!
I visited here during my first night in Panama. The food, staff and atmosphere exceeded expectations. My food was seasoned to perfection!
A really great evening….the service was excellent as all the team working (Inc door/bar/floor) were all friendly, knowledgable and attentive. All the dishes that we had were tasty, fresh and beautifully presented. Thank you!
We had a large party and they accepted our reservation. We did family style/chef's choice food (they brought out multiple dishes without us ordering anything specific) and it was all very good and reasonably priced per person. By far the best food we had in Panama!
Perfect for dinner with friends or date night. Food was delicious, I had the one pot colonese and a margarita. Friends had oxtails. One of the best places visited here in Panama
La Tapa Del Coco is a great place for small bites. The food is satisfying and tasty. The service was impeccable with immediate seating, attentive servers and a fast turnaround for orders. They offer table fans if sitting outdoors. The atmosphere is Panama chic and the music sets the vibe.
The food is amazing! I wish I could grow an extra stomach to be able to fit everything on the menu. Our server Edwin was fantastic, attentive but not invasive. The staff is on top of it. Even the uniforms are handsome on everyone. It's no surprise that this restaurant made the Latin American Best restaurants list.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Recently recognized as one of the best restaurants in the world, this spot offers authentic yet creative Afro-inspired flavors right in the heart of Panama. Every dish is a celebration of culture, tradition, and innovation, delivering a truly unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, perfectly complementing the bold and unique flavors on your plate. One must-try is their signature margarita made with a Jamaica flower base—locally known as Saril. It’s refreshing, flavorful, and the perfect pairing for your meal. Visit, indulge in the rich Afro-Panamanian tastes, and thank me later. This is culinary artistry at its finest.
This place is so good I would hop on a plane and fly halfway around the world just to eat here. Jerk chicken was fabulous, and the bbq sauce on it was the best I ever had. The sea bass was fantastic, red beans and rice… more please, not to mention the house made hot sauces. Seriously put the phone down and scoot your ass over here for one of the best meals of your life.
Delighted with service, delicious meals, amazing vibes - most definitely a must visit.. totally recommend reservation ❤️
Our first time in Panama and for this restaurant alone, we will be back. Wow. The food. The service. The quality. The atmosphere. Everything was the right taste, temperature, texture, just PERFECT. The in-house sauces were so good. Tasted organic and not forced. They were perfect. The homemade rum punch was delicious. And the drinks were NOT weak at all. Such a great place. And the first time won’t be the last time!
Someone said Panama City is not just a place to live...it's a VIBE! La Tapa Del Coco is a restaurant with a Vibe! This place is located in the San Francisco neighborhood of Panama City. But when I sat in there, the restaurant gave me that Miami South Beach Vibe! Being that this is burger month, I had a bacon burger on an artisan bun and it was delicious! I also tried the Salted Cod Fritters, my taste buds wanted more but my stomach was satisfied! For me the entire experience was terrific! Looking for a place to go eat, that can put you in a good mood and a nice vibe? Also good food and a top-notch staff. Visit for yourself. Thank you Kenny and Tracy for the invite! @GLOVER'S GETAWAYS
Amazing Sunday Dining Experience! We visited this restaurant on a Sunday and were lucky to have Liz as our server—she was fantastic! We sampled a variety of dishes, and each one was a delightful surprise. Every bite was flavorful, and the presentation was spot-on. This place truly exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend it and am already looking forward to my next visit when I’m back in Panama!
"Tapa de Coco in Panama City was an unforgettable experience! The service was superb - everyone had a warm smile and a welcoming attitude. We had lunch with our toddler, and the staff were accommodating and friendly. The food was incredible! The appetizer clams with coconut and curry were divine. For main course, I had the oxtail, which was tender and flavorful, and my wife loved the sea bass. Everything was perfect, from the flavors to the presentation. We can't wait to come back and recommend Tapa de Coco
Food is delicious and I will recommend this restaurant to all my friends.
The food was Amazing! Highly recommended. I had the oxtail and it was so delicious and savory.
One of the best meals I had on my Panana trip. The coconut calms served with a side of bread that melted in your mouth 10/10 My daughter had the one-pot meal she loved it minus the plantains she said it made it too sweet 8/10 I had the jerk chicken 9/10 just wished it was more spicy Overall highly recommended
The food was amazing! I got too full and couldn't finish. And that berry sauce is incredible!!! Ask for the Picante sauces if they don't give them, they are spicy but you'll thank me later.
La Tapa del Coco is a true cultural and culinary treasure in Panama🇵🇦The Afro-Panamanian flavors were unforgettable, and every dish felt like a celebration. Edwin, the manager, was absolutely wonderful—warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about sharing the restaurant’s rich heritage💖The service, food, and energy were all top-notch. A must-visit experience😘
Such amazing food! Everything we had tasted simply great. Service was very friendly, fast and attentive. Even the ower stepped by to say hi. I would recommend everyone to come here to experience this tasty food
This is literally some of the best food I've ever eaten. The food was Amazing. I came with my friends on a girls trip and had dinner at LA Tapa Del Coco. Ww tried the selfish fritters. They were soo dilish especially with the sauces. The wings were also really good, as well as the one pot dish. My friends had thedevices, and patties. They were also really good. Forgot what it was called but will post a Pic. Roberto was the server and was so sweet. The owner and Chef Issac stopped by and introduced himself. Finally, get the rolls. They are like Hawaiian rolls but 10x better. We topped off the meal with the pair dessert and the pancake desserts. They were both yummy 😋. Would definitely come again!! Would love for this to be in the U.S. in Miami!!!
A completely wonderful meal. All the food had delicious and complex flavours, which paired very nicely with a cocktail too. Armando brings an infectious energy to the place and is so attentive and passionate about the food they’re making. All around a 10/10 dining experience, would love to come back again
Had a fabulous dinner and wonderful service from Ismael. He made wonderful recommendations for dishes like the cod fritters and the ox tail stew. Highly recommend.
Found restaurant after searching for best in Panama. Read about this chef. Great service with server suggestions for apps and main dishes. No language issues which was appreciated. Nice visit food delicious.
Had a pretty good meal. Very well prepared. Pay attention if you get the jerk chicken. It says mild and they mean it. It's a cultural choice not a bad choice. Still very enjoyable. Wasn't a big fan of the seating, but we were in good company, so no major complaints. Positive rating for service.
Definitely a spot worth checking out. The food was delicious and had so much variety. The beef empanadas were our absolute favorite, super flavorful with perfect dough texture. The chicken wings hit the spot too, and the lemonade was insanely refreshing. Totally worth the calories!
This place came highly recommended by friends. So we went as a group. They serve fresh coconut whole inside the shell, buffalo wings and oxtail. The servers were amazingly hospitable, friendly. The food was just ok. The oxtails were a bit underwhelming especially compared to Jamaican cuisine. However the atmosphere and owners attentiveness truly made up for areas. Cheers to trying visiting different countries and sampling their cuisine!
I recommend La Tapa Del Coco. The food was very good. The jerk chicken was big as well, very juicy and delicious. The only thing I could complain about was the service. When we got settled in they took our drink service. Then our food. They were not rude but not nice. The wait was about 35 minutes for the two jerk chickens. The chairs, at least outside, were so uncomfortable. The price was high but the food makes up for that.
Don't let the smaller portions fool you; this restaurant delivers big, bold flavors in every dish. I really like the curry clams, shrimp curry, and beef patties which are all outstanding. The cocktails and sangria are equally impressive. It's an intimate spot with mostly outdoor seating, so reservations are highly recommended to avoid a wait
This restaurant came highly recommended so we decided to check it out! My wife had the Atlantic Puma Wings that didn't have much flavor to them and a bit messy. She also couldn't taste the wings because of the sauce. They were cooked well though. The One Pot Colonense was delicious! I had the Cod Fritters that we're cooked to perfection and tasted great with the blackberry sauce! The Camarones de Curry Rojo I had with the Beans and rice was yum! A Drinks were ok. My Moscow mule was light on the rum but still refreshing! Wife had the Seril con jengibre with tasted great! A plus to see MLK in the bathroom!
The dishes are small but flavorful, great ambience.
It had a lot of good reviews so we decided to give it a try, went as a group of 4 but they had no indoor seating (apparently all reserved) so we sat outside, food is rather pricey for the portions, my seabass was $22 and it was the second smallest plate on the table! Service was okay, the host noticed we spoke English and did her best but the waitress didn’t bother trying to communicate but the food is okay
Really enjoyed my time here at this black owned restaurant in Panama. Upon arriving, I was sat immediately but did have to wait quite a while for someone to come to my table and take my order. Once I was greeted things took off pretty quickly as I was able to order my drink and food and receive it rather quickly. I ordered the Caribbean sangria as my drink, the beef patty (empanada) as my appetizer and the half jerk chicken with the coconut rice and pecans with plantains. Although the jerk chicken wasn’t the best I’ve had, they give you huge portions! That beef patty though was the STAR of the show. I should’ve ordered three to go! Lol! The staff were friendly and extremely attentive for the duration of my meal. The aesthetics were also very modern and chic. Make sure you stop by here and grab a filling bite to eat while in this beautiful country!
We were referred by Crystal at W Panama. She said this was an Afro Panamanian restaurant and the food would be great. The food was okay & over priced. I had fried Sea Bass & rice & beans. My husband had smoked Pork chop. It wasn't anything ti write home about. If I come back to Panama, I would not go back.
Its fine. The prices are higher than they should be and the oxtails are just ok. The tenderness is on point, but the flavor is a little off. Its missing something, Im not sure what but if you've had great oxtails you will know what I mean. The ceviche is overpriced IMO maybe got 6 bites for 17.00 it was the best thing I had there though. The Free Cuba was ok. Thats it, everything was ok. Some of my party said the fish balls were bad, I didn't taste them. Overall I'd give the food a strong 6.8. Staff are all very cool. Make sure you book a reservation.
We made reservations, but the atmosphere felt a bit off. I ordered the curry dish, which honestly wasn’t great. My partner had the oxtail with white rice 🍚 the oxtail was burnt and lacked flavor. The only decent part of the meal was the sweet plantains. Overall, a truly disappointing experience.
Tourist trap at its worst. The food was extremely disappointing — the curry lacked flavor, the seafood tasted off, and the vodka tonic was basically just tonic water. The only decent item was the bread, and they brought out just three small pieces at a time for a table of seven. To make matters worse, the prices were nearly double what the quality justified. Overall, a horrible experience. Save your money and go elsewhere.
