After just visiting Japan for two weeks I needed to get my Japanese curry fix. Menya's pork katsu curry was sooooo filling! Great value for the money, and maybe even too much food. Also it was delicious, and scratched that itch from my trip to Japan. The decor in the place is also pretty close to what I saw on my visit to Japan. Plus the menu has a LOT of ramen options, including some very spicy ones, so I'll definitely be back soon to try them out.
Ambiance and space is so beautiful, and the food is delicious! Lots of ramen types, vegan ramen types, and katsu curry rice is delicious too! I love the purple/black rice that is an option with it. Curry rice also comes with miso soup which was delicious. Portion size was also great. Parking is tough in the area. The only minor surprise was the tip options were 18, 25, and 30% 😳
My new favorite Ramen joint! This place is such a cool hangout. It feels like your transported straight to Tokyo from the moment you walk into this Japanese street culture dream. There is not a more cool place to grub in the city than this place. The seaweed salad was so dope, and the Black Miso Ramen has made this place a regular stop for me going forward. Looking forward to coming back to try the karaage.
Always excellent. I’ve been ordering only their Ebi furai curry with veggie base curry and white rice. I like how they have vegan, veggie options too. Also try their yuzu peach sparkling drink. I love it! Staffs were friendly and attentive. Ambiance is great with some outdoor and lots of indoor seating. It’s always never busy each time I was here (which I prefer) and so food was served quickly about 10-12 mins.
Phenomenal! That’s all I can say each time I took a bite! Got vegan broth and gluten free noodles and I couldn’t believe all the flavors in there! I would give more stars if I could! Wait staff also very nice! Update to my last review! This place rules! Had the vegan curry ramen with gluten free noodles, I was so hungry and excited I forgot pics! It was amazing!
Love this place! It’s exactly what you want from a ramen joint: big portions, chewy noodles, and perfectly cut meat. Got the Takoyaki and the spicy pork ramen and both didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere is laid back and non fussy, and everything about it makes you want to come back to try another bowl. Highly recommend!
This place is exactly what you want a ramen place to be. Cozy. Oddly decorated. Friendly service. An adequate amount of toppings. Chewy noodles. Flavorful broth. Normal pricing. Marinated eggs. It checks all of the boxes. I can always tell that a place is going to have good ramen when they have good chicken karaage. Fantastic.
We ordered 2 different kind of karaage, tempura cauliflower, spicy bean sprouts salad, tonkatsu bento, yuzu shiso ramen, spicy miso ramen and donabe ramen. I really like that they have not only ramen but variety of bento options so that my kid who doesn't like ramen can enjoy his meal too. My whole family enjoyed everything we ordered. Tasty Japanese food and friendly service.
The owner was so nice! The food was great and their $25 deal was worth it! They give you really big portions, i was stuffed after eating
Outstanding! Delicious. Delicate flavours. Perfectly cooked protein. Noodles great. Egg jammy and perfect. Spices just right. Service calm and attentive. Wish I had this in my neighbourhood.
They have a great selection for Vegan Ramens. Would be back here to try other options.
Have been coming here pretty regularly for the past couple years. We always get the Spicy Garlic Black Sesame Ramen and we're gutted to find out it was taken off the menu recently. I got the curry this time around which is also delicious when I'm in the mood. Posting a photo of the black ramen as homage to a fantastic dish. Please bring it back! They also have vegan ramen which is really cool to not have to settle with vegan friends ;). The Asahi is cold and ready for you to come in and enjoy with an appetizer of karaage, seaweed or cucumber. It's all great
I doordashed so cannot comment on the service or atmosphere. But their packaging was quite unique. They even had an instructions card with it which felt like a really nice personal touch! The miso broth was definitely one of the best I have had. I would surely try more from this place!
A lot of great vegan options! It seems to be less populated than other ramen places I’ve been. At around 6/7 the place is bare filling up. Honestly, I think I don’t know why this is the case. The ramen tastes great and the price is also very good. Enjoy it while the crowd is not piling up yet!
Came here on Sunday night. The food was DELICIOUS and homey and the service was amazing! There was one server, bussing, waiting, and seating tables and she crushed it. Would definitely come back and recommend if you’re looking for Ramen. We loved the shishito peppers and hamachi apps. I came here for the GF noodles and they did not disappoint.
This is one of my favorite SF Ramen spots. If you haven’t been here yet I highly recommend it. The menu has both great vegetarian and non-veg options so there is something for everyone. My top dishes -Spicy Miso Ramen: It has a chicken based broth and spicy minced chicken topping. There is a plant version which is also excellent. -Vegetable Croquette Japanese Curry, I enjoy the chicken version as well but the vegetable based curry is slightly spicier which I prefer.
Such a gem in the mission! The vegan options are sooo good and well-crafted, they are thoughtfully made like the rest of their ramen options unlike how other restaurants that do a sad bland vegan version. We had the vegan Shoyu and creamy miso (gluten free), seaweed salad and tsukune yaki starters. The broth for both ramens were very flavorful, not too salty or oily like some other places. They were packed full of the best toppings like bamboo, spinach, and corn. The creamy miso broth was unassuming and the star of the two - seriously addicting! The shoyu had a spicy oil that I didn’t expect but it was a good addition and there was a refreshing hint of yuzu. The soy meat was marinaded soo well and grilled which gave it an amazing charred flavor. These Noodles were the medium wide flat style and the proper generous amount. I’ve eaten ramen in Tokyo many times too and this certainly hits the spot! The tsukune yaki (with beyond beef) was an inari skin covered marinaded beyond beef patty that tasted really savory yet slightly sweet with a patty that had something that tasted like ginger and radish mixed in. Very unique dish Ive never had The decor vibe is feels creative and urban with very friendly and attentive service. We came on a Friday night at 7pm there was no wait for 2 ppl but buzzing and lively. You could easily eat solo here with a good amount of well-placed high barstool counters in and outside Great drinks and sake menu too - you could totally have a izakaya type of meal here too with small plates and drinks all night. We can wait to make this a new regular dinner spot in our neighborhood ☺️
We are picky about our Ramen, with only a few places really making the cut but I think this is one of them. At first I was bummed they werent curly noodles but they ended up being handmade which definitly makes up for it. They had a great bite to them and good flavor as well. The vegan option was great and the broth was rich and worked well with the vegetables. The atmosphere was pretty spot on as well. A great view of the kitchen from almost anywhere, with spray paint art lining the walls and big windows and ceilings. They had a projector playing anime but it wasn't too distracting if you didn't want to watch it. The service was the only thing that could have used a bit more. They were friendly but we had to ask for stuff like water, Ramen spoons, and other stuff a few times. I'm sure they are busy so I don't fault them. Overall a great place for some Ramen.
This is my second time eating here. But this go around I brought 2 family members with me. The food was delicious I asked for mines to be extra spicy and it was 😁.
Got the vegan miso spicy ramen and vegan tuna salad and literally both were sooooo good!!! Vegan tuna was delicious - as a vegetarian, I’ve always wondered what fish tastes like so really happy they had it and per my friends who eat fish, it was pretty close to the actual tuna. The owner is the sweetest and came to check in many times ☺️ We sat outdoors and despite it being a chilly and windy day, we felt so comfortable because of very effective heating! Highly recommend checking this place out :)
Still one of my go-to places for several reasons like you don't feel out of place if you go by yourself, their food is hitting the spot on a cold evening and you crave for noodles or in this case for ramen. The price to quality and quantity is well maintained and somehow the combo of their vegetarian dishes with a cold beer and some sake doesn't fail. Neither do the various ramen bowls. My local neighborhood joint , I recommend it.

Spicy vegan miso ramen had so much depth of flavor. Noodles were firm, soy meat was yummy

It was so cute and chill I was recommended to this place using the Blackbird app. And I don’t regret it also my waiter was so sweet. Very laid back hole in the wall spot for some good ramen
The owner was so nice! The food was great and their $25 deal was worth it! They give you really big portions, i was stuffed after eating
The food is good, I could feel the taste of each one of its ingredients, the service is good but not excellent, and the place is a nice atmosphere but a little uncomfortable in terms of chairs and tables. The decoration is quite striking and typical of the style of Asian food, the prices are in accordance with the food. Might go again, what I would recommend.
Looks like this place replaced Orenchi Beyond? Unfortunately I never made my way to try the original one but my understanding is that it’s essentially the same but rebranded. The interior feels a bit cramped but overall a cozy vibe. We started off with the sake flight and tako wasabi. We did not get to choose the sake 😂. The tako wasabi consist of raw octopus and chopped wasabi roots. This was surprisingly really good!We went for their classic ramen and agreed that they rank below Marufuku. However, this is not to say the ramen isn’t good. The shoyu ramen had a hint of smoky taste when I initially tried the broth. The egg was just a teeny bit over cooked, but that may have to do with me saving it for last. Her egg was definitely runny when she ate it halfway through. I’d definitely recommend this place!
Ordered the chicken oil 雞油 flavor ramen and Tonkatsu bento . Portions is not that big , but each dish is test great ! Especially the Tonkatsu tender inside and crispy outside , come with six kinds of side dish and rice . Updated : Ordered Yuzu Shio chicken ramen ! I love this soft texture ramen ! And soup base was so Yuzu , lol For the ramen , noodle is the skinny one which I like . I saw now they have new flavors ramen , will try next time .
Menya Kanemaru, also known as Golden Ramen, is a standout ramen restaurant that deserves high praise. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a cozy and welcoming atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The star of the show is undoubtedly their Golden Ramen. The broth is a labor of love, simmered for hours to achieve a rich and deeply flavorful base. It's a harmonious blend of savory and umami notes that will leave you craving more. The noodles are cooked to perfection, boasting just the right amount of chewiness to complement the broth. What sets Menya Kanemaru apart is their commitment to quality. The ingredients used in their ramen are top-notch, from the tender chashu pork slices to the perfectly cooked ajitama egg. The attention to detail shines through in every bite, resulting in a truly satisfying and enjoyable dining experience. The service at Menya Kanemaru is exceptional. The staff is friendly, attentive, and well-versed in their menu. They are more than happy to provide recommendations and ensure that you have a memorable dining experience. Even during busy times, the wait times are manageable, ensuring that you can indulge in your ramen craving without excessive delays. In addition to their outstanding ramen, Menya Kanemaru offers a selection of delectable sides. The gyoza and karaage are particularly noteworthy, adding extra layers of flavor and variety to your meal. All in all, Menya Kanemaru, or Golden Ramen, is a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts. With its superb broth, impeccable ingredients, and attentive service, it's a culinary experience that will leave you fully satisfied and eager to return for more.
The ramen I got was delicious! It was the Vegan Curry TanTan. The one my friend got was the Vegan Shoyu Ramen which was a little sour for her and the vegan imitation meat was chewy and she was not really a fan of it. The appetizers were good, especially the Tempura cauliflower. The chili oil was not spicy and had no chili flakes in it. It’s ridiculous that a small bowl of ramen is now $22. The service and food was good, the atmosphere like use a little work. Bathroom a poorly functioning toilet that doesn’t flush. Therefore, giving it an overall 4/5 star review. :)
Great spot to grab some vegan ramen. They also have vegetarian curry which is hard to find. Place was clean and bright. We came at a slow time in the afternoon which worked out for us. We ordered their curry plates which came with shredded cabbage, rice and fukujinzuki. The only thing that would had made it better if they had a choice for spice level. It wasn't spicy for us but we wanted it to have a bit more kick to it. Overall this is a great spot.

Menya Kanemaru Golden Ramen is a really good ramen spot in SF. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles had a great texture. I also liked that they have a good variety on the menu (including options for different preferences), so it’s easy to come with friends. Service was friendly and the food came out hot and fresh. The only downside is it can get a little busy, and prices are a bit high, but overall it’s definitely worth trying. I’d come back
The food was underwhelming. And the service was particularly slow. We tried the black and red ramen. The broth was bland. Bambu tasted a bit like canned food and the pork was chewy. The starters were slightly better. We had the squid, which was fresh but a bit plain. The spicy aburi tuna. And the sampler karaage was very tasty.
Walked into this ramen joint thinking I was about to get a steaming bowl of comfort. Instead, I got a front-row seat to the saddest kitchen theater imaginable: ramen yanked from a plastic Tupperware, still frozen, dunked whole—plastic and all—into boiling water before making its way into my bowl. That image never left me, and it sure as hell didn’t help the taste. Thirty-three minutes later, after being the first through the door and somehow the last to be served (three tables total, mind you), the food finally landed. The broth? Rich enough, creamy enough. The meat? The kind of tired, freezer-burnt reheats that taste like déjà vu—probably not its first thaw. Three bowls and a shrimp tempura later, the bill punched in at a cool $100, tip included. The place itself felt like it hadn’t seen a deep clean in a while. Being the first customers of the day, you’d hope for a fresh reset, but the bathroom already told a different story. The staff gave it a go, but the service was out of rhythm, like a band playing two different songs. Bottom line: if you’re in the neighborhood, starving, and not in the mood to nitpick, this will quiet the craving. But if ramen means more to you than hot noodles in broth, keep walking—you can do better.
At 1pm on a rainy Saturday, there wasn't any wait and I was able to be seated. Our server was very nice but she was very busy because she was the only server at the time. The vibe in here is great and there's a lot of seating inside; The outdoor seating has good heating even. The karage sampler looked good, but - the chicken was raw in one of the pieces. I repeat the chicken was raw! I pointed it out to our server, and she immediately took it back to the kitchen and we got a new sampler but they did not comp it which would been nice because I took a huge bite of that raw meat :(. The ramen was nice. That's wouldn't be my first choice coming back, but I could see myself eventually coming back in the future.
The decoration of the restaurant showed a very strong Japanese vibe. The noodles were good, and the soup was ok but lack of depth and authenticity. Overall, I’d say it was not bad for a ramen adjusted to fit the American flavors.

Whatever this place used to be, it’s not that anymore. There was not a Japanese person in sight in the kitchen and the single wait staff was struggling to service the whole place. Food is average and they got several things wrong in our orders when it wasn’t that busy. Bathroom looked janky, toilet was broken. Extension cord mounted in the front of the restaurant with silver duct tape, chairs dirty. Even the lid on the iced tea carafe looked dirty. If you want ramen go to Japantown where restaurants actually care about what they’re doing.
Update 2/2025 - we’ve been coming here since it was Orenchi Beyond and the quality of food and has taken a significant nose dive. I ordered the special scallop ramen which was good but the shrimp had a weird freezer taste. My wife ordered the standard salt ramen and the soup tasted bad and the pork “chashu” came out looking like this. It tasted old and ruined the soup flavor. We did let our server know and she gave us a 15% discount which was appreciated.
Service is variable, first time it took forever and was very difficult to flag down the waiter. Second time was better. I found a hair in my ramen at the bottom of the bowl the second time so I won’t be eating here again. No parking in the area, not even a garage
