Opinions de Regent Thai San Francisco
Update 01/21/23 We came on the Chinese New Year’s Eve…food’s still amazing and the service staff are always attentive. Reviewed 3 years ago. The food has always been good..they portioned the dish sizes well to match the price (not expensive). So, we always order 3-4 dishes to try different things for 3 people. My favorite dish is the tofu churro!!
One of my most favorite Thai restaurants ever. Not in SF- ever. The staff is warm and welcoming, the owners are there daily to greet and chat with you, the food is fresh and flavorful, and the ambience is modern yet so simple. It's as if they're welcoming you into their home for a delicious meal. This place is really busy come dinner time so come in early or you can order to go to ensure you get a chance at the yummy foods without the wait. I love the golden bags and lightly friend shrimp, both are lightly friend with bold flavor.
Just how I like it regular everyday people with excellent service and excellent food. The portions sometimes seem small but it's well worth it. Definitely one of my go to's for Thai food or just for food in general! Delicious!!
I come here at least once every week. Kid friendly with affordable and super delicious Thai food! Lunch is a steal at under $8! I like Pad Kao fried rice, duck curry, BBQ chicken, salmon...basically everything here is good. Staff is friendly and has high chair. No changing tables. Stroller and wheelchair accessible but place is small
Everything that I ordered was delicious. The chicken satay were flavorful and had sides of peanut sauce and cucumber salad which was a nice blend of flavors. The red curry with tofu was working for me (caution: I don’t do spice and the mild was sliiiightly spicy for me. But definitely I still ate and enjoyed the dish).
Love this modest Thai place with excellent food. This restaurant has been here since the late 70's. The food and service is excellent and very reasonably priced. Alot of the customers are regulars. Parking maybe difficult at times but worth the extra couple of minutes.
Talking about consistency... I have been coming here now for almost ten years and never ever had food or service that was not good. The staff is always doing the best and in my opinion you get the best Thai food outside of Thailand
This place is awesome. Got the green curry and it was tasty. Had a nice heat to it but not to much. Rice came in the shape of a heart which was cute. Awesome service and super cheap for a thai place in the city. I think my dish was like $7 and some change.
Cozy place with good quality food at reasonable prices. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Great neighborhood spot. Fans of Thai food will be pleased.
This has *the* most delicious Thai food I’ve had in US - I miss quality Thai food since moving from Australasia and this is absolutely great so happy I discovered it !
Lunch specials were very good. I had a shrimp and squid basil dish which was very good.
Absolutely delicious. Thai is my favorite cuisine and I've been to most of the notaable Thai restaurants in the city and baya area. Regent Thai most definitely supercedes other Thai restaurants in the bay area.
Our favorite Thai restaurant ever! We have been loyal customers for 25+ years. The food is always delicious and the service is always great.
I come to San Francisco often to visit and every time I come, I visit Regent Thai! The food is always hot, flavorful and brought to the table fast! The staff always greets you with a smile and is helpful when you’re looking for something to eat. I highly recommend Regent Thai!
Wow, let me tell you, everything here is absolutely top-notch! The food is beyond delicious, and the staff members are incredibly friendly and attentive. They really take care of you here. And you know what's even better? It's super easy to find parking. I can't wait to come back here again, no doubt about it!p
Have been ordering from Regent Thai for years and their dishes have never disappointed. Very flavorful, extensive menu with quick and friendly service. The pricing is better than most places in the city (though the portion sizes are smaller, as well). Definitely a hidden gem of a restaurant.
This is the best Thai reataurant!! My family and I have been going here for over 15 years. We refer to it as “good thai” to distinguish it from the other thai places around. The food is delicious and so flavorful. Our favorites are the yellow and green curries, pad see ew, and eggplant with tofu. Everything on the menu is delicious!
10/10 food and takeout and service, but what made me review it is they left a tab when taping the rice container together so it would be easy to open and you don’t have to struggle
I've passed this place numerous times without batting an eye, so after our kids doctor appointment, we decided to grab lunch here out of convenience... I wish we'd had gone sooner! The food was awesome! I ordered the Pad Thai with Duck and it was out of this world!!! All of the ingredients were fresh and quite honestly made it the best pad Thai I've had in the City. We also ordered the Golden Bags and Shrimp Chips, which was spectacular too. The quality of food was on point! The service was awesome as well! There was one waitress (as we were there for lunch), but she was attentive and friendly, even bringing kids plates to the table. We are definitely going back!!!
No wait and lots of open tables. We came around 6:00pm on a Monday. We have been coming here since the original location was on Monterey Blvd. All their food is delicious and not Thai spicy unless you want that burn and I am sure they can help you with that. They start you off with a basket of fried shrimp chips and a tamarind dipping sauce. Plus water for everyone. Their Thai ice tea is always on point. Pad Se-ew with Chicken has been my go to dish. Double cooked Duck. 😋 Their whole menu has wonderful options.
Beautiful restaurant with good day lighting. Pretty fancy feel to the environment and utensils however not bad prices. Service is excellent, we had a kind server who was very attentive to our needs. Menu was clean and well organized. Food and drink satisfied my craving and the portion is good for one or two people to share. Would definitely come back.
I have been a fan of this spot for many years after a friend of mine got me hip to the skip. The food is always fresh, well presented and flavorful. You never taste anything odd or mysterious as it is prepared with such care. All of my friends, family and general loved ones know that this is the place I go out to dinner. I am pretty familiar with the staff although I only eat there a few times a year. The people are warm, kind and very attentive. The level of friendliness has always been sincere. I always feel like I am visiting relatives because the experience is so easy. I highly recommend this spot. It is some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten and I grew up in San Francisco. YUMMY!
Originally from SF I always loved this restaurant and it's whole vibe. I'm so glad I stopped in again, just as good as I remembered. Delicious 😋
One may argue about if the food here is the best, but one thing I can say for sure is that this place has the most beautiful menu lol. Plus the restaurant interior is very nice, modern, and welcoming. Of course you come here for food. So let me talk about food. The menu is quite extensive and have some authentic dishes. I tried an innovative chef's special and it tastes great: the fried shrimp topped with red curry sauce on a bed of Kanom Jean, the rice vermicelli. It tastes well rounded like traditional central Thai food. The mango and sticky rice here is legit. What surprised me is that the food here is quite well priced. Many seafood dishes are under $20 which is definitely worth it. Highly recommended if you want Thai food in a slightly upscale setting (they serve wines by glass too!) yet affordable.
One of our favorite Thai restaurants! They have the best Tom Ka Gai soup. The Pad See Ew is super flavorful, we always get the vegetarian option. Yellow curry is great too. They have a nice rice plate lunch special too. Nice atmosphere, good service, and super clean and easy parking.
Delicious! Every dish we ordered was excellent: presentation, taste and food quality. Spicy level was just perfect. I'd recommend trying the Pad Khe Mao.
Delicious food at fantastic prices. We went for lunch and most dishes which came with a side of rice were <9$. The flavors popped out with each bite. Very enjoyable experience and friendly staff.
Food is good. Affordable prices. Extensive lunch menu!
Great service. Great atmosphere. And great food. 4/18/25: still exellent service. But I do miss the shrimp chips they would serve before.
Very good food and friendly service. We had a group of 12 and ordered a variety of dishes and everything was very good. The food is fresh and not greasy. Better than some of the famous Thai restaurants in thr city!
Shocked by how tender the chicken was in the pad see ew ‼️

Small Thai restaurant on the corner of Church and 29 street in San Francisco, we sat on the far corner of the place and order our food. We shared an order the Ton Yum Goong (spicy and sour shrimp with mushrooms, tomato and lemon grass), followed by Gai Him Ma Parn ( sliced chicken with pepper, onions, cashews and crispy chili), and the Pla Dook Tod Gro (catfish filet with egg plant, zucchinis, basil and house tamarind chili sauce) and Steam Jasmine Rice, you have to choose the level of spicy of heat from mild, medium or Thai Spicy, the food was served after waiting a few minutes and was cooked with the Thai flavor and creative presentation. The only thing that was not of our liking is the we felt rushed by the staff.
I got the pad Thai and some seafood curry. The pad Thai was really good but the seafood curry didn't have any liquid in it at all. It seemed mostly like a bunch of seafood and spices. They did have these rice shrimp chip things that were really good.
What a refreshing experience, I was craving for some good Thai cooking , the weather was rather cold and gloomy. As I entered Regent Thai. I was greeted with this so unique, only in Thailand smile. Within minutes I felt transformed from a person that is bombarded with negativity from around the globe and especially on local shores to an individual that sensed humanity still exists. If you read this and have been to Thailand before then you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, pack your bags and give it a try. And for the food you might ask, right on target, simple but distinct with its flavors and textures. Red duck curry was lovely and the Tum Yum salad reminded me of having lunch at a street corner in BKK. Love it Thank you chef and staff for holding onto your traditions and transforming your guest for the short period of time to a better world.
This is one of my frequent go-to Thai restaurants in the city where Thai places are common. One of the things that I value in a restaurant is consistency of quality and these folks always roll out high standards in their servings. And while there are so many Thai eateries in San Francisco in plenty of pockets around town and everyone has their favorites, I submit this post as a simple endorsement as a great place to try or include in your rotation. The food is very good with plenty of selection, the place is clean and the service is prompt with reasonable pricing. That about checks off all the boxes.
Six years ago, I used to come here once or twice a week for lunch. I was in the neighborhood today, and feeling nostalgic, so I came for lunch. I had the roasted duck curry. It was so good. The slickness is just right. It was spicy without burning, and the flavor is spot on. I’m always worried that the duck would be old, and it wasn’t the case. The duck was fresh and plentiful. I ate every single bit of curry and steam rice. I also had Thai iced tea with light ice. Perfect amount of sweetness. For dessert, I had sticky rice with Thai custard. It was good but I’ve had sticky rice in other restaurants that tasted better. The service is excellent. All in all, I’m glad I came here, and highly recommend this restaurant.

Ordered the sautéed shrimp and squid - the overall flavor was fantastic and the squid was tender BUT the portion size was about half of what I expected. I was also surprised that for $10 it didn’t come with a side of rice, so I added that too. After finishing both, I was about 70% full (I’m a small girl). Overall, would recommend but make sure you order enough food.
So we live very close and Regent WAS our go to Thai restaurant. At some point either just before or during the pandemic they must of changed hands. We gave them several trys and have sadly decided to never eat there again. The staff used to be just straight up warm and welcoming and the food always fresh and tasty. Now that is DEFINITELY NOT the case. The chicken satay has been consistently dry and the peanut sauce super watery. The curries have proven to be inconsistent at best, varying in spiciness and salt content. I could go on and on but you know what they say about beating a dead horse. Regent Thai is that horse. So sorry so sad.
While it’s standard to get rice with a Thai curry dish, this place doesn’t let you know that you’ll be charged extra before asking “white rice or brown rice,” which I thought was shady. I ordered the Gaeng Dang (red curry) and it was fine - it lacked spiciness despite being a 🌶️🌶️-rated dish and the portions were less than expected (i.e. don’t expect to have enough for leftovers). The service was good, but for the price and taste I’d recommend Chili Cha Cha 2 in the Mission instead.
Ordered just one thing (i was craving) panang curry with chicken. It was good but it seemed like they over charged me compared to their other chicken dishes ($15 other dishes vs $18 for mine)?? it was good, lots of veggies, but small portion (especially for the over charge) and they didn’t ask how spicy i wanted it and it wasn’t spicy enough… PROS -service -lots of veggies CONS -portion size -cost
Came in with a girlfriend for the lunch special. It's a really cute corner place, lots of natural daylight & the decor is simple, yet elegant. I ordered the lunch special tofu pad ma kuer & asked w soft tofu and vegan. Maybe because I asked for the dish to be changed, I found it tasting plain. There was not much flavor in my dish. The waitress was very sweet and I will give this place another try. Wanted to split our bill & were asked to pay with one card. CC accepted
Was kinda disappointed in this place after the relatively good reviews. I got takeaway, so I wasn’t expecting anything presentation-wise, but I was disappointed in the portion and quality for the price. I got the pad kee mao, and found it rather bland and oily. It had lots of warm romaine lettuce in it, which was a first for me. It had about three small pieces of beef. Really not impressed.

Very nice staff, but their vegetarian menu is misleading. The curries that are listed under the vegetarian section have fish sauce in them! Luckily I called to double check and they were very sweet, but highly recommend they label their menu more clearly.

The inside looks much nicer than the outside sign would make it seem. Servers were all very nice. Worst pad thai I've had so if you're a thai place and can't do thst right, I'm worried.
Used to really love popping in here, but really don’t recommend ordering pickup. Took a full hour and a half to complete our order during relatively off peak hours. 5pm. When asked if they could do something about the long wait they just shrugged it off. Clearly not equipped to handle any sort of volume.

My daughter went to Regent Thai to pick up some lunch. I couldn't believe that the man who rang her up had the audacity to say that "they don't accept more than 5 pennies". Her meal came out to $7.97, so she gave him $20.07. I guess he does not know how to do the math in his head. It must have confused him so. It's a shame because the action of this one individual, makes me not want to do business with them. I had wanted to try it, because I was told the food was decent for Thai food. I would give them less than one star for his attitude. There are too many good Thai restaurants in SF to deal with nonsense as this. I do understand if they had something stated somewhere in the restaurant or menu. I still would consider it ridiculous, but at least they let you know ahead of time.
Possibly one of the worst take out experiences ever in SF. Vegetables were clearly frozen, tasteless, and soup was made days ago. The food was absolutely inedible. We have been ordering takeout from Regent Thai for over a decade and this clearly is not the same Regent Thai ownership, or they just don't care. While we love to support our local restaurants during COVID, this is one establishment we will never revisit.
