The chamgpne milk tea is very unique. They come in a ice bucket and it is been chilled by the ice. They have a lot of special meals and my favorite is the teppan rice with beef. They are serve with sizzling iron with raw beef with rice in the center, so you are eating while the beef cooking. Must try if you come to this resturant.
I recently had the pleasure of trying the sizzling beef with rice, and it was nothing short of spectacular! The beef was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection with a delightful sear that added a wonderful texture. The flavors were well-balanced, with a savory sauce that complemented the meat beautifully. The rice was fluffy and absorbed the rich, savory juices perfectly. The dish was served piping hot, with a delightful sizzle that heightened the dining experience. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal!
great service. very friendly and helpful when deciding food dishes. highly recommend. we live in sf for eight years and this is our go to place for restaurants and desserts
Having left San Francisco and moving to another state, this place hit the spot for me. Went with my friend and ordered 3 dishes and HK style iced milk teas. The Teppan Beef was lip smacking delicious. The Hoi Nam chicken was tender and full of flavor. The salt/pepper chicken wings were fresh and flavorful. Yummy all around. Not sure why this place has a lower Google rating. HK style milk tea hit the spot too! Didn’t have time to order dessert as we were strapped for time. I’ll be thinking about this place until the next time I’m back in San Francisco.
Great food. Quick service. Highly recommend the Hong Kong milk tea.
They are like the Cheesecake Factory of Chinese food with a huge menu of options. Always reliable Chinese cuisine. I ordered the bittermelon. Spicy beef tendons for appetizer. People love their teppan beef and hoi nam chicken.
The service impeccable food impeccable. Go to spot in sf.
I read about this restaurant on one of my foodie Facebook groups and it did not disappoint. I would've drove right by it and not noticed. We ordered: Salt & pepper string beans with crispy pork belly. That's not how it was worded but it was divine. Ma po tofu with rice. Cooked to pagination with just the right amount of spices. Crystal pear stew with almond snow fungus. Sooooo goood. I'll be back to test some different dishes. The menu is limited and dishes smaller than the pics but I'll still go back.
I ordered the beef stew & tendon with dry noodle + cold milk tea. Everything tasted well. The beef stew and tendon is well done - tasty and tender. The noodle is chewy and it comes with soup. The milk tea is well made too. They also have a welcoming atmosphere and good service. I ordered bake pork chop with rice to go and am enjoying it at home as I write this review 😅!
Updated Review: We had the Taiwan braised noodles $14.25, pan fried chili prawn noodles $15 and spicy wontons $10. Everything tasted great. Updated review 12/12/2021: Smile House Cafe has an impressive Hong Kong style menu. I'm amazed at the variety of dishes that little kitchen can produce. There weren't that many dining indoors tonight. Lucky for me, there was no wait on a rainy Sunday evening. Usually, there's about an hour wait. The beef brisket toss noodles $14.25 were excellent as usual. I asked for no tendons and there were so many pieces of meat. The spicy wontons $10 were also excellent. The only drawback about this cafe is that, they don't do a refill of the milk tea. They did refill my regular tea. Great job everyone at Smile House Cafe. Thank you for always making me feel welcomed. Updated review 11/15/2021: Smile House Cafe is like one of your old friends opened a restaurant. The young waiter guy is always welcoming and chatty. The guy is knowledgeable about his menu. If you get in before 6pm for the evening meal service, there should be no wait. After 6:30pm, the place fills up until closing. Tonight I had the baked seafood cheese curry spaghetti $14.25 w/milk tea. It tastes better than it sounds. It had carrots, fish, imitation crab, mussels and shrimps. What made it great was the curry sauce. It was topped with baked cheese. Great job everyone at Smile House Cafe! Updated review 8/11/2021: Wear your fat stretch pants my Yelp friends, the portions here are generous. I started off with a wonton soup $10. The flavor of the soup is different than what I'm used to from a HK cafe. They have their own distinct soup. It came with nine wontons filled with shrimp and other meats. Very good wontons. Next, I had the baked pork chop spaghetti. It had a light tomato sauce topped with a layer of cheese. I liked how they put fresh slices of tomato under the pork chops. It was a nice surprise. There was no wait when I arrived at 6pm but there was a line when I left at 6:45pm. Smile House Cafe is not at 100% capacity yet. They left some tables empty for Covid distancing. Good job Smile House Cafe for keeping us safe. The service was excellent as usual. Updated review 7/16/2021: Smile House, you did it again. I'm still thoroughly impressed. This evening, I was privileged enough to sneak in before closing time after waiting for about 15 minutes for a table. They are still enforcing the 50% dining room capacity restrictions to keep us safe. Getting a table can be a challenge. Some other Hong Kong style tea cafes like S&E cafe on 19th and Taraval are still closed for indoor dining. Tonight, I had the teppan chicken steak $14. It no longer comes with soup. The waiter was super nice about it and was apologetic. The teppan chicken steak arrived sizzling. I love how it makes a grand entrance every time I order this. It is a head turner. The black pepper sauce mixed with the cabbage and chicken is certainly satisfying. The finale of the meal is when you get to the bottom pieces and they are slightly burn from the cast iron plate. Amazzzzzing. It is almost like crispy jerk chicken. Great job everyone at Smile House. Especially the knowledgeable waiter. Original review: Indoor dining 5/25/2021. Best sizzling beef with rice in San Francisco! Smile House Cafe is a Hong Kong style tea cafe. The staff was super friendly and I was only customer when I walked in at around 6pm tonight. There were plenty of seats. The waitstaff can speak both Cantonese and Mandarin. The kitchen staff only spoke Mandarin. My sizzling beef came smoky with that attention grabbing cooking sound. The beef was thinly sliced and hint of Korean style sweet marinate. Your supposed to mix it all up and not wait too long depending on how rare you like your beef. Great job everyone at Smile House Cafe. My meal was excellent.
Soooo delicious 😍 and super flavorful 🤤 Beef and tendon stew, pork chop curry, pepper chicken, pork neck, eggplant, redbean and matcha dessert and mango grapefruit dessert!!!
Busy Saturday lunch. Wait for 20 minutes. Service very nice. Order Hainan chicken on promotion buy one get one free.
I loved this place. Not a ton of Hong Kong style restaurants in the Sunset and this is on point. First, the service was great. Super duper friendly, responsive, and entertaining. Seating is limited because they seat at half capacity to ensure distancing, which is nice! It was lunch rush hour so we had to wait outside while they cleaned tables a while and the server brought us a menu so we could look ahead and checked in with time updates several times. The food was all awesome. We had the beef brisket which was tender and sooo flavorful. The beef tepan fried rice came searing hot and smokey with yummy sauce. Spicy green beans weren't actually spicy but still really good, a nice charred pork flavor. The baked pork chop was a tiny bit sweet for my taste but sooo tender and delicious. We also had some yogurt drinks (strawberry and mango) and a matcha strawberry dessert. The drinks were great, the dessert was better! So nice matcha flavors! Will 100% come again. Also cute cat decor on the counter made me smile.
It was pretty good! We got Teppan sliced beef with rice, Teppan sliced salmon, spicy wonton, and a spaghetti dish with bacon and other things. I went with my family who has been here before and they said we had to mix the beef/salmon or one side could be burned/stuck to the hot plate.
I was really excited that a place that served sizzling beef with rice was opening near me. However, I was taken aback by the low reviews of bad food and service. I still wanted to try the food since it looked good. I came in around 12:30 pm on a Saturday and got seated immediately. I never saw a long line waiting, but definitely saw a consistent amount of people coming in. I actually have no idea why service was considered so bad. The main waiter/host was so bubbly and super friendly. He was constantly running around and helping everyone. We ordered one beef sizzling plate with rice, string beans, pork pan fried noodles, toast with peanut butter and condensed milk, and a sesame dessert (a lot i know). The beef plate came out super fast. The quality of the beef and rice was actually really good. It was a little saltier than I liked, but still tasted really good! The plate was pretty big; I could only eat half of it. The pork pan fried noodles came in a kinda small plate, but had a lot of pork and sauce with it. The string beans were also really good. My grandma really liked the toast and sesame dessert and said it was good quality. I definitely want to come back again since they have such an extensive menu. I saw a lot of other people eating their soup noodles, beef brisket, and ginger chicken. I also saw a lot of people getting their drinks. I thought the food here was really tasty and service was amazing. I can't wait to come back.
I support this place. Their food is consistent. I bring my family here for a quick meal. They close every other Wednesday. Today is 6/30, they are open so next week 7/7 they will be closed. Staff here says that can’t really fix it with google to change hours every other week. 🤷🏻♀️
Had a nice baked cheese tomato pork chop rice! Hong Kong milk tea was quite authentic as well. Didn't get to eat in but the staff was friendly.

I satisfied overall, visited there many years ago and came again - service actually has a lot of improvement, new items appear on the menu. The sauce of food maybe a bit too sweet to me-I got salmon iron plate

Service is excellent! Attention to detail and super nice staff. They have a variety of HK food. The food I will rate 3/5, and service 5/5.
Love the pork chow fun! It has just the right amount of flavor and isn’t too oily. The fish fillet was amazing! Fresh and crispy. Lots of food options that caters to any time of day. The service is okay- some waiters are friendlier than others. and food comes out pretty quickly.
This place has some cool HK style cafe with some infusion to it. I tried their steel plate raw beef and spaghetti and the flavor was on the mild side which is how I like it. Not much MSG was used in it. You get a lot of food for your money but be warned it's a cash only place. Their almond pudding was on the grainy side with a mix taste of almond and walnuts. It wasn't overly sweet. Staff here can be on the blunt side of things but have good intent
It you're looking for a casual diner that serves wide selection of Hong Kong western style food, looks no further! My favorite is beef brisket and tendon soup noodle - Best in town! However don't expect high quality of customer service.
HK style cafe with good menu selection variety. But wasn’t too impressed with their baked pork chop flavor. Was comparing a bit to the cafe on Noriega. Would still return to try their other dishes though. It was quite a wait for a Sunday lunch so be sure to factor that in when visiting.
I liked this restaurant. It is under new ownership and the staff was very friendly and enthusiastically welcomed us. They were really cute actually. The menu is huge. Reminds me of shooting star in Oakland. I order Singapore Laksa which was good and really big. I also ordered sliced spicy tendon as an appetizer. The spice was a numbing spice and served cold. Bonus point about this restaurant is that it is next to Mr. Bread where you can also pick up Portuguese egg tarts too.
Beef noodle is quite authentic. Hai nan chicken is tender, though a bit bony. The special rice that come with the chicken could be improved. Bake pork chop is too dry and a bit disappointing. The best of our order was the almond milk. Rich and full of flavor. Milk tea (hot) was pretty good, too. BTW, service is very nice & quick.
The beef tendons were ok. The best dish was the iron sizzling plate beef with spaghetti. The flavor was amazing. The baked pork chop needed improvement. They didn't put the tomato in, in the beginning, so it was not melted. The fried rice should be fried rice and not white rice. There wasn't enough sauce for the rice. The e fu beef noodles is good on its own but when compared to the sizzling beef spaghetti that was the winner. I love that they gave us a huge teapot to pour our own tea.
Service is good, they have friendly workers there. The atmosphere is good for fast food Chinese food. 茶餐廳style. Food is ok. There are a variety of food options.
Great menu selection for HK style cafe food as well as some Southeast Asian food like Singapore Laksa Noodle, Assam sauced dishes. All servers were jolly and prompt.
Solid four stars for pretty reasonable prices and I had a honey steak rice plate that was very tasty. The meat was soft and the flavor was on point, lightly greasy but very flavorful. Really the minus one star is because that milk tea did not taste very good, HK milk tea has a silky and creamy texture to it, this had the aftertaste of a Lipton tea bag

Service is pretty good here, but much better only if you can speak Cantonese. The food is pretty good as well, but the fried rice is excellent and is consistent in taste, which is more rare than you might think. Sometimes the order in which the dishes are served is atypical (dessert first, for example) but in general a recommended place for a quick meal.
3 stars because the food was good. 2 stars taken off because the prices here are not cheap and its cash only. If you are going to make it cash only, you should at the very least charge less for your meals and this is how i see it for any business. If you are going to make a place cash only in 2020, you better charge less for the food. I could go to another restaurant and pay 13 dollars and be able to use my Credit card. I am positive that the people here are paid very little too, which explains why the service is not so great.
Food: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Overall: A HK style restaurant with all the options you could want. The extended review… Food: Beef noodles - 3/5 - Fairly tasty. Pretty standard fare. Service: 3.5/5 - Pretty friendly staff for a Chinese restaurant. Ambiance: 3/5 - A typical HK cafe feel.
First of all, this restaurant closed down during the pandemic and it just reopened this year. What you see on the menu from the other reviews are not up to date since the restaurant was transferred to another owner and there are not as much selections as they used to have in the past. It is a Hong Kong style western fusion meal restaurant and here’s what I thought after revisiting since their reopening : B+ customer service, the staff was very warm and welcoming, we were there on an early Monday evening and was seated very quickly. B+ atmosphere, everything from the ceiling lights to tables and chairs are modern and new, table was spacious and clean. C for their baked spaghetti. What we ordered was an ox tongue spaghetti baked in curry sauce and ox tongue spaghetti baked in tomato sauce. The ox tongue was much chewier than what we had at other places, and the spaghetti didn’t have any sauce except for the top as you can see on the photo. It was more like a stir fried spaghetti and spaghetti shouldn’t lack any aside even if it was baked.
A standard Hong Kong style cafe that was really popular in the 90's with some Korean fishing dishes mixed in. The food is average at best, the desserts want very good at all. It's usually busy around 6pm and then again at 9pm for late dinner. Service is subpar as we had to try to flag the waitress just to order.

We were surprised how many food items they could put in their menu, but not all of them were edible. We ordered 3 dessert dishes and 1 drink. The drink with what supposed to be salted crema was awful. It's like they didn't know what it should taste like. The silky tofu dish was horrendous! INEDIBLE!! It had a funky smell almost like chemical and raw beans combined. We also didn't like the durian with black glutenous rice and ice cream. It just tasted weird. The only okay dish was the dumplings with ginger syrup although it tasted like coming out of frozen package.
The food was a bit inconsistent. Some items were very salty and some were completely bland. We ordered the curry beef and it was so salty I felt my kidney call out for help. The fried rice was completely flavorless. And the HK milk tea was way too sweet. The lady felt bad about it and it seems like a couple of tables nearby had similar issues. There were a lot of yelling back and forth between the waitress and the kitchen.. it made the experience a bit awkward and uncomfortable.
Order BAKED Portuguese Chicken Rice and baked pork chop rice. The BAKED PORTUGUESE chicken rice came out with a bowl of soup and a box of plain rice. When I went back to the restaurant with the food untouch and ask them for an explanation. The owner said this is what Baked portugese chicken rice is now as this is the best way to eat it. And he completely avoid me asking him why the word BAKED is in there. So we went home, and tried it. And it is the most water down sauce ever with 4 piece of chicken in there. The owner def do not know what baked Portuguese chicken rice is suppose to be. One might wonder how can a place that make atrocities daily like this stay afloat. Ghe baked pork chip rice is dry and sauceless as well. 1/10
The piece of meat I got in the beef stew tasted and smelled sour. The guy who was probably the manager or owner refused to admit the mistake and said it was impossible for them to have spoilt food because of how busy they were. He pretty much called me a liar and said there was no point in discussing the issue. I was a regular patron even though their food wasn’t great but will never return because I can still remember how disgusting that piece of sour meat was in my mouth.
This place is disgusting. I ordered the chicken curry rice and it was SOUR! I informed the waiter and he told me the cook was from Macau so the curry is “intentionally” a bit sour. WRONG. It went bad period. Also I found a pubic hair in the fried rice. Disgusting. The waiter didn’t event replace or remove off the bill. Please close this restaurant down it’s a health hazard serving spoiled and rotten food.
