Super delicious Taishan dishes. The lady that served us was very friendly and kind. Only minus point is the portion for the dishes are on the large side. We two girls had to pack half of our food home. Would be better to have smaller portion choices. But overall very recommend if you want authentic Chinese clay pot rice.
Had the steamed vegetable fruit rice. I loved it. The rice complemented the turnip, dried shrimp, cilantro, and also the banana leaf!!! The banana leaf was steamed with the rice giving it a fragrant smell. The flavor palate was light and complementary. Not greasy or heavy at all. It was enough for 3 people, or 2 very hungry people. We also got the beef bone soup. The soup was cooked for hours and it comes across in the taste of the soup. Something my mom would make at home!!
Holy moly. Had the privilege of trying this place out with friends and every dish was delicious!! They are even open till 3am to satisfy late night cravings! My faves were the coconut chicken soup (so delicate and creamy), the sweet and sour fried eggs (holy texture.. seriously get this), and the roast chicken (a lady comes to the table and pulls apart the chicken to order). Everything tasted so fresh! Also it's BYOB! The owner is so cute and passionate about sharing her cuisine. While I'm Chinese myself, I've never tried Taishan cuisine before and loved trying so many new dishes. Will definitely return!
We had the roasted chicken (which they break down right in front of you!) and the clay pot eel. Both were very well balanced and delicious. I came here with a friend from the Taishan region and they walked me through the history of the restaurant and how it’s one of the most authentic Taishan flavors you can find (even compared to in Taishan today!) The restaurant is run by a lovely & warm family where everyone is contributing. Overall an excellent experience.
Amazing Tai Shan restaurant!!! Recommendations: 1. Taishan beef bone soup (we also were told coconut chicken soup is their specialty) - this wasn’t salty, perfectly herbed, so yummmmmmyv 2. yellow eel clay pot rice - fresh water eels! 3. pork noodle roll - house made! 4. purple potatoes sesame balls - rare find usually it’s red bean They said all dim sum is made in site and they use free range chicken - don’t get preserved pork cake There as only 1 waitresss who was also the host and cashier. She was amazing and kind - management should hire at least 1 more person And of course this place has less stars cuz it doesn’t cater to westerners but their is the obligatory kung pao plate but just ignore that. All the surrounding restaurants have tourists whereas this one is filled with Taishan people.
I decided to check this place out after seeing it recommended a few times on an online forum. I was not disappointed. I had the roasted chicken and rice and it was incredible, and a giant portion of food. The staff was also incredibly friendly and the place had a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in town. Forgive me for the terrible picture, it’s the only one I could manage to take before digging in!
Open late (3am) & delicious! Fabulous dumplings & fast, efficient service. Place was busy after midnight; would return even if it wasn't late & there were more options open. Recommended! Pan fried pork buns (meat had great flavor), fried pork dumplings tasty, & steamed chiu chow yummy!!
Awesome spot for late night eats! They open until 3AM!! I think we probably came around 2:30AM or so. The place was packed with folks eating inside. We ordered the century egg porridge, house special fried rice, and string beans. Portions are large. Each dish is on the higher end, but in my opinion, I think the value is still there. Brought the food back to the hotel and ate, and it was still piping hot. Definitely appreciate hot food on a cold night! Street parking only. This spot is definitely good for your Chinese food eats! Went late night after Warriors Game, an enormous Claypot with Pork riblets/pork belly and Chinese sausage- so very good!! Hit the spot!!
Incredible food! As a Taishanese, this food is not only authentic but so delicious, one of the best meals i’ve had in SF in a while. Yellow eel rice was phenomenal, crispy, well seasoned. Roasted chicken was juicy and moist. Clam taro soup was hearty and clean tasting. Beancurd morning glory was well cooked and tasty. also got the spicy fish in chili oil which was crisp grass carp, surprisingly fresh and good for a non-cantonese dish. Overall I would come back with my taishanese parents. Don’t be fooled by the unassuming atmosphere and un renovated interior, food is dank!
I came here on good reviews and I was not disappointed. I got the hot and sour soup and the beef and chili oil. The wintermint bao buns hit my sweet tooth and my absolute favorite was the siu mai. Bursting with goodness and full of flavor! Will be back. A neighbor for the chicken and it looked phenomenal.
Homestyle cooking of authentic taishan food. My favorite is their salt and pepper ribs and their spicy sliced pork belly. Add a bowl of rice to complete the full meal. Though a bit greasy, it’s what’s needed for the “wok hey” (flavor to come out of the ingredients). I for one would be coming back here to try their other foods. I love that this place is open late night till 3am and service is swift. Lots of indoor seating for small and large parties.
The restaurant is a bit noisy but food is definitely superb! We had the yellow eel rice clay pot and it came in huge portions (prolly could feed 5+ people) and was really delicious. The vege and Chinese broccoli are also very flavorful and freshly made. We totally enjoyed our time here.
I had a fantastic dining experience at Taishan Cuisine, an authentic Taishan food restaurant. The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decor was simple yet elegant, with traditional Chinese elements that added to the charm of the place. I ordered the five-flavor goose, which was a signature dish of the restaurant. And I have to say, it was beyond amazing. The meat was so juicy and flavorful, and the goose skin was perfectly soft and fatty. It was one of the best goose dishes I've ever had. I also ordered the yellow eel clay pot, which was equally impressive. The yellow eel was fresh and cooked to perfection, and the sticky rice on the bottom of the pot was crispy and added a great texture to the dish. The service was also excellent. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, making sure that I had everything I needed throughout the meal. They were also knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. Overall, I would highly recommend Taishan Cuisine to anyone looking for authentic and delicious Chinese food. The quality of the food and the attention to detail really made this dining experience stand out for me.
There's multiple Taishans (and they keep expanding!). Compared to other locations, the Broadway one has the biggest bonus of having the most tables and is my go-to for when I grab a larger party during dinner rush hours. The food is mostly the same across the Taishans; it's comfort food and the price is good. However, the menu is a mix of hits and so-so dishes and I stick to what I know or what my friends recommend when I order. I personally love the baked pork buns and recommend all their clay pot dishes. The clay pot dishes all have great crispy rice and the flavor I look for when I get a clay pot.
Excellent cuisine and authentic, I was the only non Asian in there. Shared a table with some people from Taishan and they said the food here was better than when they lived there in china. I had the yellow eel fried rice, potato leaf vegetable, winter Mellon buns, and fish head soup….all amazing and very different from any other province’s cuisine in SF. Not fake Chinese like Nanking down the street, this is authentic. It was interesting to try an authentic Canton place for once, did not disappoint. I’ll go back again. There are many treats on this menu.
Food was really good. We had the Taishan Chicken, Chicken Fried Noodles, spring rolls and dumplings. We got there close to when they were getting ready to close for lunch so it got a little awkward. They also automatically add the tip which was a bit awkward too.
There's a new Taishan style Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Taishan is a region in Guangdong. They have an unique menu specific to this region. The restaurant was full on a Saturday night with about a half an hour wait. We started off with two pots of soup. Both the beef bone with lotus root and clams with taro soup were delicious. Very clean tasting. Next we had the duck, eel and shrimps. Not bad. We finished our meal with two clay pots of rice. I like how the bottom rice pieces were crispy because of how it was cooked. Taishan Cuisine is the type of restaurant where you bring the entire family and chat for hours. The staff was very accommodating.
It’s a long-standing & super famous restaurant in SF China town, and its fame is of no doubt honestly earned & lives up to. It’s a long drive from Bay Area but it’s 100% worth it. It is one of the very best Cantonese restaurants in Bay Area, I would even say it would make its name back in Canton Guangzhou. The menu selection is down to earth & truly authentic, no fancy fusion here, all real hometown food. Might be leaning towards a higher priceline, compared to China town average, but again, worth it. I would say, no specific recommendations on what to order, just order whatever you want, it won’t disappoint! Might have some limited street parking during the night but it can get difficult during the day, normal SF parking situation. Doesn’t hurt to park further and take a small stroll thu!
Literally one of the only places we eat out at nowadays. I love this place so much. The clay pot rice is outright dreamy, and I'm pretty sure my mom dreams about it. She says it's just like it was in China. The kids all love coming here too, and you can just tell it's a family run business, very homey. I love it!

Affordable prices & delicious food. Very friendly owner & all our food was made to order. Off the beaten path but glad we found it! It was away from the large crowds. Try the claypot rice and the pan fried buns! The Chrysanthemum tea was so good!!!
We randomly stumbled upon this place and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was very clean and quite big. Every table has an induction stove because they offer hotpot where you buy stuff ala carte. We didn’t get it but it seemed great for large groups or couples who wanted soup on top of their other menu offerings. We ordered the noodles with shrimp, deep fried pork chop, and pan fried noodles. Everything tasted delicious, but we especially loved the dry noodles. Make sure to ask for some chili oil. Oh, they also offer free tea. Food was served fresh and quickly. They’re also attentive to their guests’ needs.
Located in China town Slightly old But the food is great
Food was really good! Had the Yellow Eel Clay pot, which was expensive at $48, but could feed 4-5 people. Service had opportunities, because they had two people working the front of the house and they was hustling to sit, take orders, and serve the customers. When trying to ask for condiments, they didn't have chili oil, hot sauce, or pepper. I found that odd. The ambience is definitely different. We, as a group of 3, sat at a family-style circle table that normally would seat 8-10 people. The caveat, is that if another party of 3-4 people come in, you'd have to share the table with strangers. Don't expect a nicely decorated dining area. The room we ate in was outdated, felt like it needed a deep clean, and made me skeptical of what we were going to eat. Let's just say that if the food wasn't as good as it was, then we wouldn't come back. We will definitely come back because the food is five-star. We just will have to expect low customer service, and a dining area that could use some updating & cleaning.

A very specific regional style of cooking, a good option for the adventurous seeking to veer away from the standards found in Chinese American cooking. Spicy Fish in Chili Oil was unlike the Sichuan version — having almost a medicinal flavor and a crunchy texture of fish. Definitely an acquired taste and feel. Salt and Oil Sautéed String Beans, however, were savoury and yummy. Great for late night, open till 3am.
So many restaurants to choose from in Chinatown. You can order family style, dim sum, hot pot and variety of foods. We came at 8:30pm and ordered a bunch of dishes before the chef went on a break at 9pm. -Melon soup - hit the spot on this cold night -Beef stir fry noodles - basically instant noodles -Clams - these were huge! -Intestines - love the texture and seasoning -Whole chicken - they are known for this dish and they debone it for you -Chinese sausage rice clay pot - also known for the eel clay pot but we went safe and got Chinese sausage Overall, great dishes. We had to move to a larger table to fit all the dishes.

Can totally understand why this is a beloved spot for many, love that they are opened til 3. The reviews are true, they are a litte rude to you but honestly, I think that's part of the charm. That said, the food just isn't that good
When I got here I didn’t expect much, because it’s late night and all. Ordered food in Cantonese with a friend, food was so so. Service was none existent. Didn’t even check on us once to refill water or napkins. At the end I asked do you have change so I can tip you. Auntie said oh gratitude is already charged . (18% is what they charged. I was going to tip 16%) Lady I never agreed upon this and shame on you for doing so without asking. It’s the principle. It was just me and a friend, not a table of 4 or 5 ppl and more. I did not argued with the old auntie. I just won’t come here again. Folks if you do come here double check your check, they might charge you gratuity on top of your bill.
Old family restaurant with so so food. The clay pot chicken came in a metal pot and was tough (is this what they’re famous for), the lamb on rice came with 1/2 portions of lamb and a lot of rice so it appeared generous but was not, and the dim sum appetizers came 10 minutes after the main dishes. No tea was offered. The family was nice.
brought my taishan native companion with me and there’s just a lot of disappointment when it comes to this place. my biggest issue with this place is that everything is not seasoned enough and one note. ninety nine percent of the stuff we tried were too bland and does not have any wok or depth in flavor. the sauce to pour on the rice is not salty enough, practically had zero flavor, the meats were also not fragrant and bland at best, and vegetables in the claypot were in the menu photo yet we did not get any. so it’s just bland and disappointing food. what was good or not bad were crispy bottom and the soup we got on the side. i recommend the signature snail soup. perfectly flavored and good for you. the crispy rice was unexpected as the clay pot itself was not hot to the touch so quite bizarre. atmosphere itself was chilly, very squeaky door and it is LOUD, and plenty of flies bugging us. service was fine but they never really asked if we liked our food. so idk if they know that their food is really mediocre. i think at the end of the day, if you advertise something, you got to do and execute it right. do not list so much on your menu but underdeliver on those promises. if anything really specialize in a few things and make them great. that is all.

DO NOT EAT HERE even if it’s the only place open late It’s not worth it AT ALL We ordered: Walnut Shrimp & Veggie Fried Rice Both dishes were 50% LETTUCE the WALNUT shrimp — means walnuts mixed in ?? Correct? Not at this restaurant We got shrimp covered in gobs of what we are 90% sure was custard and candied PECANS on the side of our bed of lettuce the VEGGIE fried rice was plain fried white rice with a bit of cabbage and a lot of LETTUCE… When we got our food it smelled like a Cesar salad that roasted in the sun for several hours and not at all appealing, yet we still tried it…. There was no amount of sauce or spices that would bring it back. Unfortunately this won the award of WORST FOOD EXPERIENCE in San Francisco to date….
You know when a restaurant is no good when you come inside and there’s a certain smell of uncleanliness. The table still smells and feels a little oily from an old stinky dump washcloth. The food was terrible. Pork belly with black beans was rubbery and the taste was 👎. The Sichuan fried chicken didn’t taste like Sichuan at all. This restaurant opens till 3 am and you will think it might be a good Chinese restaurant that opens that late, but NO. Don’t waste your money here. They add gratuity to your bill automatically.
This is the second time to this resaurant. First time the food was very good, but service & atmosohere not so great. Second time, the lady was RUDE. I ordered Wonton Noodle soup & Green onion pancakes. The pancake was good. The soup was AWFUL, no flavor, tasted like water. Asked to exchange soup, "No change!" Lady brought pepper & soya. Tried to add soya & pepper....no better. Save your money and try something different....it is San Francisco which has many restaurants with better food and service. Now I understand why the restaurant is open so late, to reel in the hugry unsuspecting diners.
I saw the advertisement on the red note so we drove all the way from San Jose to here. I was so disappointed. The food taste so bad, we order the eel rice(黃膳飯), it was so fishy and the rice is so oily, we could not eat , I just havd a few bite and wasted it:( I don’t know why this restaurant got that high rating but for sure it isnt worthy.
I ordered 3 sets of dumplings on the phone. I got there and the lady was already being rude. Once I went to pick up the food she gave me a weird look and when I went to look inside the bag to check if everything is right she yelled. “ITS THREE ORDERS”. Also the dumplings were mid.
Seriously a fraud lol. Ordered online and they accepted the order charged you and didn’t make your food and told you ‘Oh, it’s the platform’s problem’ It happened TWICE to me, TWICE to my friend. FRAUD. Don’t give money to these cheaters.
We stopped by Taishan Cuisine for a supper and ordered the beef fried noodles and char siu wantan noodles. We were shocked to find both dishes made with instant noodles, not fresh egg noodles like the menu photos showed which was a huge letdown. When I asked, the owner said, “Yes, but we use EGG instant noodles.” For $38+tax for two dishes, that’s really disappointing. The taste was okay, but using instant noodles at that price point feels misleading. Just a heads-up, if you order noodles here, they’re instant, not fresh.
The only good thing about this place is that it’s open late. But honestly, if you’re craving late-night food, you’d be better off getting a bowl of pho or ramen elsewhere. - Food Quality (2/5): The claypot rice was missing the signature crispy bottom layer. The beef bone soup was just plain broth with ginger and lotus root, absolutely not worth $24.95. The “Five Flavor Goose” turned out to be sweet-and-sour goose, which was way too sweet. They should’ve just done a proper Hong Kong-style roast goose. The clams? Way too salty, completely overwhelming. - Service & Pricing (0/5): The worst part? They automatically add tips to your bill without notice, even though tipping is voluntary in California. Not only that, but they included takeout items in the total bill to calculate the tip, which is completely unfair and deceptive! Tipping is meant for service, not takeout. On top of that, they still print suggested tip amounts to squeeze even more money out of customers. - Ambiance (1/5): The place is old and dirty, adding to the disappointment. For the price, the food was disappointing, the service was rude, and the sneaky tipping practice was unethical. Save yourself the frustration, go somewhere else!

Flys all around, service was quick only good thing. Worst canto Chinese food I've had in years. Chow fun was gooey, Beijing pork was sweet and sour pork and not fried, coconut shrimp was just mayo. The only reason this place exist is because it is open till 3 am. Do not eat here even if it's late it is hilariously bad.
