Opinions de Almaden Sushi San Jose
Our new favorite sushi spot! Everything we've tried is delicious, but our absolute favorite is the lucky salmon roll.
Great sushi, very fresh. Portions on smaller side but high quality. Not sure what a few folks are complaining about, yes you do have to be within the open hours...
I have know the owners since I was a wee lad... They always treat us with kindness and great service! The sushi is delicious and fresh!
The absolute BEST sushi in San Jose. Excellent quality, beautiful ambience and competent waiters. I love the tuna Don buri
Great Japanese food. Huge sushi variety and it’s always fresh. The crew is fantastic.
The sushi tastes great and fresh. Their dishes (like their teriyaki and rice dishes) are big and would either fill you up or you would definitely have left overs.
good service, great sushi. I've never once had an order messed up here, and they're always friendly
Love this place! Their high quality sashimi always has me happy; I also get the gyoza and nigiri as well which are fantastic.
- Large variety of fancy special rolls - Very friendly and attentive staff - Clean space and well laid out (not too cramped) - Family friendly, lots of options for kids - Fast kitchen turn around Very tasty, will be back again!
Great service and food! Rolls are always the perfect ratio of fish to rice. Service is fast even on busy nights.
Wow!!! This place has it all! Great ambience, friendly service, delicious sushi, and good prices to boot - what's there not to like?
A hidden gem! Way down Almaden Expressway, this place is worth the drive. Start with the salmon sashimi appetizer and you'll know what i mean!
Always tasty and fresh. We have been going here off and on since discovering they made onigiri which is hard to get since the pandemic started as our normal grocery store has been so busy. If you can't make it yourself they are just as good. (OK very likely much better than my sushi but mine are made with Love according to my daughter)
We've been here many, many times and would highly recommend it. The service is always excellent, the fish is amazingly fresh and flavorful. Sushi lover or not, you'll find something you'll love on their extensive menu.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Almaden Sushi. Last night I came in when the restaurant was closing feeling absolutely terrible after a 100km race, utterly needing to eat. The staff saw me in my state and let me sit down and eat and even gave me an extra big portion. I left a big tip but today I feel like it wasn't enough because such a token of kindness is really more than money can describe. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. 🧡
Almaden Sushi is our go to place. Always fresh and clean, amazing staff, and gluten free soy sauce. I’ve tried lots of SJ sushi places and this is the best especially for the crazy roll.
our go-to place for Japanese food in Almaden area. I usually order the bento box with 2 items, always good. My daughter likes the variety of sushi they offer. Highly recommended
Their food is good. Actually very good. Sushi was fresh. Tried some of the al carte menu items and all that my family and I tried were good. We left with good impressions and satisfied stomachs. But of course, you get what you pay for. It’s a little on the expensive side.
1st time visiting and it was an all around great experience. Staff was attentive, food quality was excellent and portions are large. We ended up having two rolls and combo dinner. Highly recommend this place.
Have been here multiple times, and it's always delicious. Chirashi is so good, but I also love their lunch bento. Only suggestion: provide other options than California rolls for sushi combos, because some weirdos (me, for one) don't like them, generally.
Decided to try this place out because of the mostly positive reviews and glad I was able to. Food was delicious, customer service and attentiveness was spot on, even when it was busy. My only complaint might be the special rolls we got seemed a little small for the price, but they were delicious! I'll be back to try their other offerings...
Food is fantastic, usually get take out and they always get the order right and it is always consistently excellent. For the first time we at at the restaurant on Saturday and as usual the food was perfect and the service was equally as good!
Great lunch tray , 2 and 3 items. Also, Dinner Rolls are very tasty and fresh.
I love their Bento Box. The Sushi is fresh and so soft compare to mani sushi places I have been to. The service is very good.
This place food was great. Fish was very fresh. We love here.

This place food was great. Fish was very fresh. We love here.
I’ve been coming here for over a decade and the quality of their nigiri and rolls has never missed. The fish is incredibly fresh (their salmon is a consistent standout) and the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Highly recommend!
One of my favorite Japanese/ Sushi restaurants in the Bay Area. Fresh, flavorful and well prepared sushi, teriyaki, sashimi and appetizers. Consistent high quality and friendly service spanning more than a decade.
Absolutely everything about this place is amazing. The service is exceptional—attentive, friendly, and efficient. And the sushi? Absolutely incredible, every single time. The quality, freshness, and presentation of the food are always spot-on. Even their chicken teriyaki, which isn’t something I typically expect to be a standout at a sushi restaurant, is absolutely delicious. They’re impressively quick with their service too, making it a perfect spot whether you’re in a rush or planning a relaxed meal. My boyfriend and I are loyal customers—we come here at least once a week. The poki bowl, which is bursting with flavor and consistently delicious. It’s safe to say this is hands down the only sushi spot I’ll go to. If you’re looking for a place that consistently delivers incredible food and service, look no further.
The best and freshest sushi around! I love that they have gluten free soy sauce, miso soup, and can make most of their sushi rolls gluten free as well. AND they're staff are delightful.
Everything is amazing. Service is incredible and the sushi is incredible. Perfect food everytime. Even the chicken teriyaki is great. They're pretty fast as well. My boyfriend and I come here once a week at least. He gets the poki bowl and its very delicious. Hands down the ONLY sushi place I'll go to.

They close @ 2 and we arrived about 1:20. The service was fast and very courteous. Everything we ordered was good and fresh. They actually turned on the "closed" sign on @ 2 straight up. They did a last call before they did so. Good experience.
Still has issues with the ginger (always tastes old, borderline rotten), but the rest of the food is fresh with not exciting but very good roll options.
I come here every now and then to grab a quick bite for dinner. The sushi is always fresh, consistent and reasonably priced. The only slight downside to the place is it gets a little slow both for eat in and pick up during peak meal times. Otherwise, no complaints.
Good local sushi option for people in the San Jose Almaden area. Service is pretty good, although sometimes there can be long waits. Food quality seems high and everything tastes excellent. Can't help but feel that portions are relatively small, but I find myself returning often and am never disappointed.
Small place with good quality food and friendly service. Fish has always been fresh and nicely sized portions-not too large. Chicken has never been overcooked and dry-always just right. Lunch selection isn't huge but a good selection of dishes.
I've frequented Amadon Sushi approximately a dozen times with friends who reside nearby, and they consistently relish the food. While it's not my top pick for local sushi, I prefer Sanraku in Oak Ridge Mall for its superior freshness and impeccably balanced rice. Nonetheless, the service and hospitality at Amadon Sushi seem to be the primary draws for my friends, along with its convenient location for them and plenty of parking spaces in the plaza. I recommend Almaden Sushi if it’s close in proximity to someone or last minute plans where reservations aren’t required.
Good experience, the portion size is great at a reasonable price. The teriyaki sauce and tempura sauce was not overwhelmingly flavorful. You can decide if that's a positive or negative. The sushi was very good.

We have been here several times before and enjoyed the food. However, today we walked out after waiting 30 minutes and observing seemingly random seating order (At least one party which arrived after us were seated and had food before they even had a table cleaned for us). Maybe we will consider it for takeout again but the restaurant will definitely not see us again as the service was notably slow even on previous visits.
Only meh. Sushi is decent but not spectacular. Good location and seems to be busy most nights. Annoyed that kids can't order kids portions if over 11 years old. What a stupid rule to force them into a bigger portion if they want chicken teriyaki. Probably my last visit due to this stupid rule and them actually enforcing it.
A little on the pricey side. Left there annoyed because two 49er rolls, one hamachi sashimi, jalapeno poppers and two hot saki + tip $100!!! That's insane! The 49er roll had way to much mayo and they aren't attentive. I had to flag the guy down 3 times and then after they brought the bill then they kept coming back really quick to get the payment trying to rush us out. I think they changed the receipe for their poppers because they didn't taste right. They were so gooooood in previous visits. All in all, first week in Feb my fifth time here this by far was the worst experience.
This place has gone down in quality. Ordered three poke bowls and the portion of fish meat was disappointing. Compared to how much fish we had in our poke bowls a year ago, the portion of meat has gone down. I spent 100 dollars including tips for three Poké bowls, and was hugely disappointed.

While the quality of the food and service was good. I thought the prices were way out of line...15-20% above equivalent places. The sashimi offerings were limited...no chance to order one's preferences...just their group selections. I was disappointed in the offerings of their bento box...most others offer a much wider selection. AND...no Hoki Guy...what kind of sushi place doesn't offer clams of any kind?
I think it’s criminal for a pokibowl to cost 30 dollars with tax and tip and only get fish and rice.. theres much better options nearby for cheaper. I think the fish quality is pretty good but to get a pokibowl consisting of just fish and rice isn’t a pokibowl, theres barely an inch of rice as well, you will not be filled up at all. If you want toppings such as mango or avocado with it you have to pay 3 dollars for each topping which you could buy an avocado next door at safeway which i did to put in it. It’s ridiculous I’ve never seen an extremely sad pokibowl especially for this price I expected more..

I ordered the lunch special with salmon sashimi. The sashimi is too cold and don't have the usual taste of salmon. The chefs and owner have much to learn from Sanraku, which is run by Japanese. The quality and price in Sanraku is much better.
The place is pleasant but the food is not so much. Simple Rainbow roll shows off the fish quality … or lack of it. I really wanted to like it.

This place sucks and the old man in the front is rude! Refused service to us because it was 1:55 and they stop seating at 2. I argued a bit but decided it was not worth the bad food and service together! This was my second experience with them and I will Never go back! The food is average to bad and not worth the outrageous prices for a cold piece of dead fish. Hell they don't even have to cook anything! The ambiance is bad like their cheap construction decor. They really pissed me off...
My family and I came to this restaurant for dinner and left disappointed, service was cold and food did not taste good. One of our orders was the chicken teriyaki, which came with a bowl of salad. I politely said “excuse me” to a server walking by and asked if they had chili salt. She looked at us but didn’t say anything, walked away, and brought it back without a word. I said “thank you,” and she still didn’t respond. At first I thought it might be a language issue, but I later saw her speaking warmly with the white people in the table next to us, which made the difference in how we were treated feel uncomfortable. When the bill came, I left a 10% tip because we were unhappy with the service. Another server came back and asked if the amount was correct, then told me this is a “high-end” restaurant and tips are usually 20%. I explained why I tipped less. There was no apology or effort to understand what went wrong—she just walked away. Tips are optional, and if a guest tips less, it’s more appropriate to ask respectfully about their experience than to pressure them about the amount. I won’t be returning and don't recommend this restaurant to Asian people like us.
sushi was okay (safeway quality) but the service was passive aggressive and the server forced us (teenage girls) to tip 20% and wouldn't let us leave without. won't come here again.
The sushi was fresh and very good, but the payment experience completely ruined it for me. Our bill for four people was $388. When I went to select the tip, I entered my own amount for about 14%, but the server brought the bill back and insisted that l change it to 18% - right in front of my guests. That is absolutely not acceptable. Tipping should be a personal choice, not something a restaurant pressures you into, especially after spending almost $400. It was embarrassing and unprofessional. I will not be going back despite the good food.
Spent 40 dollars and got just a small box of sushi and taste mediocre. My kids are saying they feel the sushi from Safeway next door tastes better than what we got today. I do not understand the 4.4 tar review here honestly l. First time google review score does not reflect the food for us. Definitely will not come back again.
