Opinions de Fosters Freeze San Jose
The place looks like a hike in the wall, but it is am old fashioned kind of place. Like an old school car hop. The burgers are juicy and big, the fries are crispy and crinkeledn they also have a huge variety of desserts
A place where locals can get a blast (no pun intended) from the past! Banana milk shake is the best in town! Better than sonics! Love the fried Zucchini and fries are always HOT.
One of the few old fashioned ice cream shops left in the area. Serving up big old greasy burgers and delicious milkshakes. You can get a cone dipped in chocolate just like you remember getting when you were a kid. Seating is outdoors. The lunchtime crowd can be rather large so keep that in mind. You might be waiting in line for a while but it will be worth it!
Fosters freeze is and old school ice cream place that I love to go to. The soft serve with chocolate dip is delicious, and my favorite item to order. When I visit Japantown in San Jose, I save room for dessert here. Highly recommended!
Being in thIs city its sad to say we don't have many Foster Freeze! It's a bit expensive but on a hot day It's a good day to get your sundaes, shakes, and many varieties of ICE CREAM DESERTS. WITH VARIETIES OF TOPPINGS.
Ol time Burgers . Such nostalgic area
Krinkle cut fries are so crispy and golden, you might mistake them for your granddad's Rolex. Local burgers are better burgers! Awesome staff and always fast and clean.
I don't know what it is about this place. It's not your typical fast food. Place always has lots of people, burgers are solid for thst quick smash and grab style. Not to mention it's been very consistent for years.
If you love delicious burgers and fries, then this historic Fosters is the place to go. The staff are very friendly and kind. This is truly a little downtown gem. Outside seating is available.
We always have a great experience at this fosters freeze compared to the others on Camden and Milpitas. The workers are always on top of their game here the food is always hot and fresh the owner is always friendly and the shakes and twisters are so much better than the other Foster's freezes around San Jose area thank you for your great resturaynt.
Love strawberry sundae ! But we suggest more tables to sit and eat. Remodeling is way overdo because this place is part of our youth when we used to stop and spend time after our schools days to grab a bite and icecream. Our school was Peter Burnett in the mid 60s and early 70s.
We've only ever ordered ice cream/shakes here, but we've loved it every time. The servings are huge! And the staff is friendly. Update: the corn dogs are amazing as well.
This is definitely a good priced place to get a burger. The double classic combo is a favorite of mine. The food is always fresh, the staff are always friendly. I personally love the dirt and worms for dessert. Kind of a small parking lot but it's about the same for any other food place around this area.
Great, high quality fast food! What more can I say? I had the gardenburger and the fries. Both were very tasty. I have yet to try any of the desserts here, but they seem very appetizing based on the pictures. Will defiantly be back to try the other items off the menu. PS: There are no bathrooms here and seating is limited with just a few tables outside.
I've been coming to this location since I was in middle school. The quality of food hasn't changed. The staff is super friendly. The ice cream is the best. It definitely is my favorite burger spot in SJ.
Love soft serve ice cream. Simply a medium cone. Kids got the dipped cones. I also tried the chili burger, was very good
Good soft serve ice cream.
Its the only foster freeze I know around! 4th and taylor. Parking is on site basically park walk up order get your food and leave.
Fosters is an amazing throw back experience. Everything cooked to order and all kinds of ice cream treats like milkshakes, twisters, cones and Sundays. Really a great experience for the kids to have a sample of simpler times and decent food for the adult too. I love their burritos, burgers and hot dogs! Oh and try the fish too.
One person runs the grill so the quality feels better because it's not rushed. It taste like a burger you would get at a mom and pop shop. The fries are amazing and addicting.
Very good chicken strips and fries. The strawberry cheesecake ice cream thingy my daughter got was good. The lady who took our order and served us was very nice.
The chilli burgers omg famous food. Its great and the dipped chocolate cone is huge and taste so good. My daughter loves the ice cream at Fosters Freeze. Great service friendly workers fast service. Look forward to going again.
Didn't know there was another Foster Freeze in the area. Mine in Milpitas was closed on Tuesday and went to this one. Food was bomb. The spicy Chicken sandwich was better here and fries were delicious. Would recommend much better than most other fast food joints especially innout.
Man oh man I love my Foster's freeze. Coming here for food is quite remarkable and highly recommended. The food is amazing and most importantly the root beer freeze is also pretty Amazing as well if you've ever been here I would highly recommend stopping in at some point
Omg tastes just like it did when I was a kid! Worth the drive and wait for food! Definitely need to go again
Nostalgic from a bygone era. The burgers and ice cream are fresh and delicious. The staff totally make the place! They are like old friends who you are meeting for the first time. I couldn't recommend Fosters more!
I love Foster's Freeze! It is my go to place for quick burger, crinkle cut fries which are my favorite. They don't skimp on the fries nether. There ice cream is good and milk shakes. The people that work there are always nice and get your order right the first time. I will miss them when I move.
Great spot for a burger after the 9er game.
Great old school soft serve and burger joint. Been coming here since I was a little kid as I’m sure my parents did too. The chili burger could contend with the best of them.
Good old fashioned ice cream experience. This place is a landmark that I hope will never go away. We need more businesses like this - the staff was helpful and my order was completed fast. Plenty of parking but I can see it may get busy at times. There was a short line, even when it was an off time on a Sunday evening. But, everyone was happy to wait for great ice cream and food.
This ice cream is hard to beat. They have fantastic smooth and creamy soft serve, and they do all the standard ice cream creations, shakes, blizzards, floats, splits, parfaits, etc. It's an unassuming local joint that has pretty great hours and there's also savory options. It doesn't look all that special from the outside but I think it's a hidden gem that is great for treating yourself whenever the cravings hit.
Good and service are always good. Some downtown foot traffic and characters lingering, but that’s to be expected. If you take your ice cream to go, just double check it’s the way you ordered it.
Fosters is that place where you can get all the things you were told to stay away from, but you can't because it taste so good. From the ice cream to the cheese burgers, chicken sandwiches and those crinkle cut French fries I love, boy you just keep coming back. What I like is everything is cooked to order. I have never been there and my fries were not piping hot, or the ice cream was not up to par. It has the hometown corner spot vibe with great fast food and service. I think the people work really hard because when I go the same people are always there, ready to take your order and they get it right every time. They are a winner in my book.
The service is great, the food is excellent and the wait time is minimal. The french fires are amazing, large and crinkle cut. In fact I went today for lunch and enjoyed the Big Boss combo. Corn dogs are tasty as well. I have been going to this place for years now. Recently I started working only a few minutes away and I come at least once a week for lunch. 👍🍔🌭🍦 Sean
This is the Fosters location if all locations. It just has that feel. The food is amazing. Burgers and fries are yummy. Crinkle fries perfect hot and fresh. Any sweet treat will be a delight! And you get old town ambiance.
This place has the best burgers hands down! Absolutely nobody comes close to how delicious thesea burgers are! Mouth watering, THE ABSAOLUTE BEST EVER
love it but... they have no idea how to run a business. they put like $20 worth of mayo on everything.
My wife and I go once a week, their root beer freezes are the best.
I loved the chocolate dipped cone. Cannot go wrong with it! I didn’t get a chance to try the other stuff on the menu but they did have burgers and other drinks I want to try!
Kicked off the year with a Fosters Double Decker in Japantown—double patties, double cheese, bacon, veggies, and that tangy Fosters sauce. Juicy, cheesy, and messy in the best way. Only two staff members were holding it down, and it’s good to see Kabayans (Fellow Filipino) running the show. Classic drive-in comfort food with a side of Filipino pride and friendly vibes. 🤙🇵🇭
Fire, it's always fire.... burgers remind me of like old fashion burgers and don't get me started about there shakes... I get one to eat now and one for later.... (movie night) lol never disappointed when I eat there....
This is a great place that serves more than ice cream delights. The chili burger is an upgrade over my usual chili dog and here they are 100% Nathan’s beef dogs. The popcorn shrimp looked good too but the chili burger won So many choices for my u e cream PBJ, Heath, brownie Cherry, Oreo Mint so I went old school Brownie. Yummy This venue has no inside venue or service. It’s takeaway or dine out on their non movesbke tables. It’s on the corner of N 4th street and it’s a busy intersection. Accessible height corner to order and to pick between PBJ, Heath, Oreo Lime or Cherry Brownie just to mention a few on the long list. So I choose old school Brownie shake. Yum yum. Service is efficient. Order and pickup counter are accessible tables are non moveable Accessible parking in the street with somd spots free for 2 hours and some charge paid by app or credit card.
Classic Fosters freeze!! We have had the burgers, and the deep fried burritos. Both items are delicious!! Don't forget to also get some ice cream when your there!
Been coming here since forever it seems, not as often as I used to in my younger years but when I can afford to eat out, then this is always one of my favorite options, so much that it turns into a flip of the coin decision. New staff needs a little counter customer service skills sharpening but the place still makes good food and shakes.
Foster freeze and Dairy Queen bring nostalgia from back in the day of a burger stand. I just love chocolate dipped ice cream cones. Always great deals on burgers cooked while you wait.
You know how in commercials they show those really good looking burger shots but the real burgers are a huge disappointment? Right here you order something on the menu and you get exactly what is pictured there. I ordered a boss burger and fries there with a chocolate shake. The burger was big and tasty, the fries were hot with a nice pinch of salt(could use some pepper imo). The chocolate shake was the star of the show despite how good the burger and fries were, smooth and not too sweet 👌
This was a blast from the past. My grandma used to bring me here for a treat sometimes after going to San Jose Japantown. I took my mom, wife and kids as a treat for shopping in Japantown. My mom and oldest son both got a root beer float, a classic. They both loved them. My youngest / my wife shared a sundae with chocolate syrup and sprinkles and was in hog heaven. I got an old school favorite a chocolate dipped soft serve cone. It brought me back to spending time with my grandma years ago. It made the stop even better because of the nostalgia. I was happy the quality was still high and the service was above average. The place was steadily busy, not sure if that's regular or because it was a hot day.
Perfect for those hot San Jose days and you need a frozen treat. Easy parking. Great prices. There are seats in front. The hamburgers are a good deal and if I had to choose between a Big Mac, I rather have a Foster Freeze burger.
It's tasty for a tiny burger stand. A little slapdash and messy for the price, but tasty nonetheless. Especially the desserts--I feel like they have that on everyone else. Their shakes and ice creams are quite varietous. Foster's has a very old school, drive-in vibe, but could use some updating. I feel like they're probably just staying afloat amongst the competition in the area. Like a little chain that could. If you order the chocolate dipped soft serve ice cream cone, ask them to double dip it.
Looks sketch, but it's a pretty solid spot if you're looking for a burger and a shake. The Old Fashioned is a bit plain, but it is what it is. The Big Boss really hits the spot. I guess I'll eat here more often and update accordingly.
They ran out of chocolate ice cream, which is understandable since it was a nice summer evening. Ended up with a chocolate dipped vanilla cone. The lady who gave us the food was very nice and pleasant. The lady that took our order, not so much.
Fries are awesome - Super crispy outside and soft inside. Shakes and freezes are also pretty good. Burger was okay, bun wasn’t dry or stale.
I love this little place. A slice of nostalgia
You'll wonder why I give 4 stars for expensive and slow, but the Bay Area isn't cheap. I enjoyed my parfait, and realized it was a lot. My husband's triple berry cheesecake twirl was good enough he said. But for all the flavor and ice cream, I enjoyed mine quite a bit.
Love going here in hot days, I love their vanilla and chocolate swerve soft served ice cream, with good prices. Friendly staff and new ice cream machines. The food is ok, but I definitively recommend the ice cream and shakes. The sitting area is small, and the parking might have more than one pot hole😅. But I still enjoy the ice cream! Enjoy!
I really liked the chocolate dipped cone I had tonight &, judging by the reaction of those eating burgers & banana splits, everybody was happy & satisfied with their orders. I also saw 3 of the hardest working people I've ever seen... a fry cook making burgers, a clerk taking orders, & ice clerk making the fountain drinks & ice cream treats. They worked in tandem & were very efficent! Great experience & I'll be back!
The burger was made to order with fresh, real ingredients and was very tasty. The fries were fresh and the portion was generous. My only issue was that the fries were just a little off; maybe the oil was a little old? Anyways, it was cool to have regular old fashioned fast food, not that the stuff you find in the large fast food chains using over processed ingredients. Not gourmet, but good for what it was.
I ordered an ice cream cone here and crinkle fries but somehow it takes so long to receive your food. I got my crinkle fries but still have to wait for my ice cream cone. Overall I would go there again.
Double cheese bacon burger was really good. Krinkle fries were good. Banana split, nice presentation and yummy.
Used to go to this foster freeze back in the days. Still looks the same and taste the same. Even the guy that works here is the same. The worker really loves to interact with their customers. There also appears to be locals who goes here all the time. Menu is pretty big. Food: The old fashion is always my go to choice. The Fries that comes with the meal is pretty good. They tend to give you a lot of fries. Their onion rings are always good as well. Service: They are quick to make your order. Food is always top notch here and beats other big chain restaurants. Don't always see the helper to the cook wear gloves. The cook always wear it, though he should wear a hair net. Never had hair in my food though. Parking: Parking can be limited, but no one really stays at the location long. Parking is free as well. I find that most people order to go though there are two tables to eat at. Seating: The workers don't maintain the tables throughout the day. It's more of the community self regulating. Overall, it's usually clean. Amenities: No bathroom. Condiments are by request.
The shakes there are great, but the burger was made with old bread which was falling apart. Also one time we showed up about 25 min. before closing and they refused to service us, saying that they were already closed. The shakes are the only reason I gave e it three stars.
Haven't been to a Foster Freeze in a long time and decided to stop by with my family. They had signs for twister flavors that they were no longer serving, which I should have known since all the signs are old and faded, and the twister I did get was pretty much ice cream with Oreos sprinkled on top. Would have gotten two stars but the burgers were actually pretty good.
The strawberry cheesecake parfait was pretty good, but the cheesecake was way at the bottom of the cup.. Every time I go to this location, there's a cleanliness issue. Last time I had to bus my own table. When I asked for the table to be cleaned, the lady hands me a wet rag so I could clean it myself. This time there was a big sticky mess in front of the ice cream window that none of the employees bothered to clean up, so it felt like I was standing on fly paper while waiting for the parfait. It feels like a fast food joint in a third world country...right in the middle of Japantown, USA
Was ok. Nothing special. Mind you i only had a banana split so this review is based on that only. Banana split had ALL vanilla ice cream lol. Was very disappointed. Typically banana splits have vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream. Would never buy it again. The ice cream tasted cheap. Wasn't impressed. Service was soso. Would probably return to try something else.
Good for ice cream and not much else. They used to have insanely good spicy chicken sandwiches for a reasonable price of like 7-8 bucks. Then they changed from big thick fried chicken patties to some processed small flat patties, not worth it anymore for taste or price....
I got the Old Fashioned Cheeseburger Combo with Diet Coke. I also got a chocolate banana shake and fried zucchini. Wait was longer than I expected. I waited atleast 30 mins. 🤨 ONLY 3 people were before me. It was busy after me. Still waited a long time. Burger was cooked excellent. Diet Pepsi tasted flat ( no fizz) with very little ice. It was watered down probably from sitting so long. Shake was really melted down too. The zucchini sticks were only warm but not long sticks, but rather squished together and weird shaped *see picture* I felt amount of zucchini 6 pieces was too little for almost 4 dollars! The staff tried to give me cold fries that had been sitting in the warmer for as long as I had waited... I returned them and was given fresh hot fries. Over all, I like this Foster Freeze... but improvement could be made. There was only 3 staff for dinner time rush, maybe that was the issue.🤔
Food was okay, burger was a bit dry. Was shocked to see a Foster Freeze not offer free refills on soft drinks. Chocolate milkshake was amazing though, made with a vanilla soft serve base and chocolate sauces added. Just the right amount of added to make it smooth and easy to drink through a straw.
Place is by itself so I think unless you heard about it you are not going to find it. They have limited parking spot on site and a few spots for you to sit out. They accept credit card here and we're pretty quick to put out the orders. They have lots of options of sizes for both cups (junior, small, medium and large) and cones (small, medium and large).
They are too overpriced and charge you for everything except ketchup and napkins. Even then, i asked for extra ketchup with my large fries (they gave me two packets) and only gave me one more. They skimp on the actual stuff on your order (chili cheese dog) and then charge extra for more. Crazy...
The burger I ordered wasn't very tasty. It wasn't absolutely terrible, but just about any other burger place would be better in my opinion. They used to have pretty good burgers, so maybe this was just a fluke?
Love the ice cream hate the prices.
Milk shake was more like 🥛 milk No shake Super watery and terrible Asked for burrito well done came out super white not even even fully fried 🙄 Young girl working counter seemed like she was having a bad day because her mood was a lil rude Was denied being bale to add toppings or make cages to items even when we offered to pay extra We will stick to the Milpitas location . This place isn't the same any more shame.
Normally I have good things to say, however I went to foster freeze tonight and they closed 10 mins early. There was people waiting in line outside. I asked for service but no one came. They told me they turned the machine off earlier. But it wasn’t 10pm yet. I understand that wanting to close early and get home, however the open sign was open and I was ignored when asking for service . Sounded like they didn’t wanna service their customers. There was other people there as well waiting in line. As I mentioned earlier. The girl was rude and not understanding didn’t want to work with us. Also normally I have no issues, but today the girl with the orange hair was rude and didn’t even try to work with me. Just insisted that that they were closed before their time and they shut their machine down before I got there which was 9:50pm and there was nothing they could do not even an apologize. This was a sad day for us.
Garlic ice cream is not for me lol
I no longer feel safe to get ice cream from them again. I am super highly allergic to nuts and so is my son. I specifically told them to make sure nothing with nuts. When I got my ice cream they had nuts, I asked him if they can remake them without nuts they refused and said I It’s not there problem then asked for a refund they refused again.
Have always loved fosters freeze but this is by far the worse visit I have ever had... Not only was the complete order wrong.. but to add the burgers were horribly dry. Had onions when I specifically said no onions. I originally ordered 2 triple old fashion combos but was giving the single. The lady obviously wasn't paying attention to a damn word my husband said.
Every time I feel like trying this place out, I make my order& then i actually look , none of the employees ever wear gloves !!! Super unsanitary!!! This lady dropped some bits from a milkshake and tossed it back in the cup, I had to tell her to remake it. I get it its supposed to be quick &cheap but that's just nasty!!!
We got to this Foster's Freeze around 9:30pm on 09/07/24, Saturday. We were behind 5 people who were ordering smoothies, desserts, and twisters. When it was our turn, we ordered Fish and chips and Fish Sandwich. Not the combo. Then we waited for it for 25minutes. Then around 10:05pm...a Caucasian lady came to order Mozarella Cheese Fries and 2 Ice Creams on cones. There were 3 hispanic ladies working in front doing the smoothies, desserts, and drinks , (one of them took our order, the cashier), and 1 Hispanic man cooking I the back. After they gave the desserts, ice cream, and smoothies/twisters to the 5 people ahead of us at 10:10pm, the Hispanic cooking called out "Mozarella Cheese Fries" out which is the lady who came after us and she got her order right away at 10:15pm and they even gave her 2 ice cream cones. Me and my family were confused so I went to ask the cashier what happened to our order since we have been waiting for more than 30 minutes and the lady who came later than us got her order right away around 10:15pm. We have been waiting since 9:40pm . Turns out, the Hispanic man cooking in the back ignored our order because the cashier went to ask him but he walked away from her and did not answer her. The hispanic man (the cook) went outside to take out the trash and replaced the trash bags while staring at me, and my family. The cashier said sorry but we are upset for waiting for too long. Cashier said she will get our order done but wait for another 10 minutes. We have to use the bathroom and this place has no bathroom. So imagine how we feel. I do not recommend this Foster's Freeze. We got our order without giving our receipt around 10:30pm. GO TO OTHER FOSTER'S FREEEZE BUT HERE. THE WORKERS AT NIGHT HERE SUCKS. I like Foster's Freeze but not this one on 4th Street and Taylor in Downtown San Jose... especially at night on Saturday Nights. I am disappointed.
We were at Jack's Bar on a Saturday night and noticed online that the Foster's Freeze across the street closes at 11pm. It was 10:50pm at the time and one person in the group desired a burger. I craved a milkshake. So we left and crossed the street at 10:56pm. As we walked across the street, they turned off the open sign. I walked up to the window and asked what time they closed and if we could still order. Knowing it wasn't 11pm yet. The lady said "Ice cream only. NO FOOD!" I asked so a milkshake was okay? She said "I guess". We left! I'm so sick of these establishments charging outrageous prices and providing such poor service. I know it's hard to find good help these days. To the lady working there on Saturday night September 23rd, take some pride yourself and your work. It doesn't matter where you work, you can still have some pride and integrity and provide great service. I worked in food service for over 20 years. I know it's tough. But you can do better than this. You probably wanted to go home, but cooking one more order isn't going to get you home that much later. It's like running a red light. Okay, you saved 30 seconds but probably stopped at the next light. Last time I was here, I stood at the order window and the same lady would not help me. She would not even acknowledge me. So after 8 minutes of being ignored, I went across the street to Wienerschnitzel. They gave me fast, friendly service. Maybe the staff at Foster's Freeze just don't like me! I'll never go back. Why would I? They don't want my money. They have no interest to serve me!
Service is consistently glacial. Order a banana split, but don’t hold your breath. The French fries are already cooked, what am I waiting for? The burger is more or less tasteless, don’t expect anything resembling fresh. Am I crazy to expect some eye contact and maybe a thank you when giving a tip? I’ve just given up on this place. It’s a shame my girlfriend likes the ice cream, and the outdoor seating is nice when the sun sets, or I would never return. At least I can get a hot dog and shake with something closer to a human interaction across the street. Am I grumpy and hungry? Yes. Does this place deserve any praise for their service or food? No.
I’ve been here twice. The first time I ordered food it was meh. I only came back a second time to try a milkshake with my gf which has sealed the deal for me to never go back 😂 The workers were just talking with each other which is whatever. I can wait, but while they were talking, the girl standing by the order window looked at me and then went back to their conversation. I continued to wait, but once their conversation ended, she just walked away LOL After zero acknowledgement, I looked at my gf, laughed, and went across the street to get Weinerschnitzel. Which is what I’d recommend to anyone thinking of coming here. 🌭 had better service, food, and cheaper price 👍🏼
