Opinions de Sushi Kan San Jose
Quality sashimi, good appetizers, and creative rolls. Can't really ask for more out of a local sushi place. I have enjoyed the food every time. Service has been spotty on occasion. Took an unexpectedly long time for our second round of rolls the first time we went but it's not a deal breaker for me.
Our group of 4 had an excellent experience here. We started with edamame and sake and then shared 7 different rolls. The taste and presentation on all of that was great. The Catherine , Island Breeze, Caterpillar, Angry Bird and Royal Blast were the rolls that we got and loved them all. Our server was polite and attentive. Overall, I highly recommend this place.
The stuff is very friendly, they know us by our faces now, we go back 2-3 times/month. I think the price is good for sushi place and there are lots of options for sushi choices but there are also other kinds of Asian food so everyone can find something. What we also like is that they are open 6 days a week until 11pm so when every other place is closed there is still something to eat. Food is good quality and tasty. This our go to sushi place when you don't want fancy but still have a good meal. I would definitely recommend.
Great food and service was lovely as well. We got: water & a beer Pork belly appetizer Philadelphia roll with soup/salad And a bento box with teriyaki chicken & two spicy rolls. So good!
I'm a sushi fanatic, probably been to 20+ sushi restaurants in Japan alone. I also make very high grade sushi at home Sushi Kan is pretty good - relative to local South Bay sushi options. I recommend it. Also I find my friends who are also finicky sushi eaters like this place
This place is amazing. It's small and cozy but also light and cheery. Even with the place being busy the service was very fast. They have tons of things to choose from and even the veggie rolls are extremely good! I had the Gypsy special roll and it had great flavors and decent heat to it. The surprise was the Veggie Dragon roll. The lemon sauce they have on the plate under it makes it crave-worthy. I highly recommend a stop here.
Outstanding sushi. Always very, very fresh, and carefully prepared. We always stop in when we are coming through San Jose. May well be family owned - has that welcome feel about it. Bar area with sushi prep, and open, casual dining area. A thoughtful, 'sushi for dummies' menu - very much appreciated. A wonderful option which we take advantage of when we fly into or out of San Jose. Come for the food, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. We can't get sushi this fresh on the east coast. (As an aside, sits adjacent to a larger, more formal/plush, traditional japanese restaurant, also with a sushi area and bar. Sushi Kan, by comparison more casual with wonderful food. We're so very good with that:) Highly recommended!
Super friendly staff that was super accommodating of our weird custom sushi roll request
Great food and service. Near the San Jose Airport and a must of you are in the area. Very fresh and rolls have great combination of choices. Highly recommend this place
Sushi Kan in San Jose is a gem! Their sushi is always fresh and artfully prepared. The menu is diverse, offering everything from classic rolls to innovative specials. The ambiance is cozy and the staff are friendly and attentive. A must-visit for any sushi lover in the area!
First of all, this guys are open till 12 AM which is great, we always struggle where to eat at the late hours. Second, the service was top notch. They were fast, efficient and really taking care of us. Third, food was great! Simple and very good taste. And forth, they have a happy hour 5-7 every day for 99c sake! We’ll definitely be back!
Amazing variety with very interesting and creative names for the special rolls. The menu describes every roll well so it's tempting and also easy to know what you are going to get .. especially if you are a sushi novice. We tried their spicy garlic edamame (loved them), followed by Alaska and golden Cali rolls. Found the Volcano Island something different on the menu and quote liked it. Definitely a go to place in South bay ❤️
Very pleased with this spot. The rolls were not only delicious, but they were also good portions and aesthetically pleasing. I enjoyed the feel of the dining area; it felt quite authentic. The exceptional customer service was the cherry on top!
We LOVE this place. The fish is fresh and the rice is warm and has its own personality. They are very accommodating to my wife's allergy (both gluten and soy) and to my need to have lemon with everything I eat. Emily and Min are amazing and attentive, and they always takes care of us when my wife and I show up. Absolutely recommend the Gail Roll and the Catherine Roll. The Hamachi Kamikaze is great, too, along with the Alaska Roll. Huge fans.
Pretty quiet, when I was expecting izakaya vibes. But, friendly and hospitable service and wonderful sushi. The Hamachi was stellar.
Fantastic home style Japanese restaurant. In town and found this restaurant on Google. We were able to get in late. The service was very accommodating, the setting was very comfortable, and the food was comforting after a long day. Very fortunate to have stopped her.
Great place to eat or drink. They got good sake deals if you’re looking to get rowdy. The servers are cool too
It’s hard to find excellent quality sushi like this and they are the nicest mom and pop owners.
Great place for Sushi. Friendly service and top quality for a decent price.
Amazing Staff, Service, and Food. By far the best, and my personal "go to" spot in San Jose. UBER SPICY ROLL IS AMAZING.
Perfect service, delicious rolls with high quality fish, and relaxed interior with a homey vibe.
We had a late dinner here with my friends. Liked the food and service! Was tasty. Try it.
I love treating myself to sushi after work sometimes. The fish and quality of the rolls are great. Wonderful service from the staff. Always seeing the lady in front smiling and making sure everyone is treated great! From the phone call and when I get there it is usually ready which makes me super happy!
I stopped by late night and hit the spot. The waitress was great, food was delicious at a clean sit down restaurant. Worth checking out if in the area.
We went early as they opened and service was quick and straight to the point. The lady who helped was very helpful and efficient checking up on us. The food was great and really enjoyed their sushi despite not liking seafood very much. My favorite entree from this is the Ton Katsu that includes Miso Soup, Salad and White Rice. The atmosphere was great nothing too fancy but very authentic. The important part was it being clean and it very much was! Highly recommend just make sure you arrive while they are open cause their hours are strict.
It was the first time to try out this cuisine and as soon as we reach there we got a very warm welcome with the server and very soon they got us seated with water although it was busy. It was just like the positive vibes so then we started to think what can we order being pure vegetarians. We ended up ordering vegetable yakisoba ( noodles) which was so yummy and veg rolls - artichoke and avacado and both weee equally good . I think I will go again to try more rolls but with same yakisoba as veg don’t have much options in main menu (plate)
The manager is very friendly! Also the ambiance of the location is super fun. If you are looking for a good time come here and make sure to order extra sake bombs haha. Sushi quality is good, rice to fish ratios are excellent, and the presentation of the food is well put together. 10/10 recommend to a friend also bring a friend haha also the photos is the aftermath 😜…
The food was really good. I had a combo meal with 3 different rolls and it was delicious. Only weird thing was when it was time to pay. I was using my Apple Pay and didn’t properly activate it when I was about to place my phone on the scanner. Instead of just telling me like a normal human being, the server pushed my phone away and told me rudely that it wasn’t activated properly. Please don’t touch me or my phone. Besides the server being weird, it was good.
We visited Sushi Kan because of its great reviews. We were overall quite happy with our experience but the sushi and sashimi could've been better. Just to get clear, the other dishes we had were quite delicious - bulgogi, udon, rolls, etc. But they weren't special nor authentic. Just a good decent tasting food. But obviously a sushi restaurant must be judged by its sushi. We did the chef's special nigiri+sashimi. Everything felt average. Decent fish, decent portions... but nothing to command such a high Google review score. I wish they'd have more "high end" pieces (ie. hotate, toro) rather than sprinkle with regular tuna varieties. The server was super nice and friendly which added to the atmosphere. Don't get me wrong. Definitely one of the better sushi joints but nothing worthy of 5 stars...
We came on a Friday evening and we're seated immediately. The tofu stews came out like 15 minutes after we ordered it but then my bikini sushi roll took 30 minutes. The server had mentioned that the baked roll would take a while longer and that the restaurant was quite busy at the moment. The salmon on top and the tempura tasted good. The menu had advertised "real crab" but unfortunately the crab in the bikini roll was imitation crab. Overall, pretty tasty tofu and roll.
One of the best vegetarian sushi rolls selections in the San Jose area hands down. Kan also has very fresh raw fish, uni, shrimp selections. They even have a fresh catch board. Sadly I had to take one star away because they often don't have kampyo which is part of their vegetarian sushi menu and they also run out of tamago sometimes. Service is very nice, especially if you're return customer and the service staff recognize your face. Environment is cozy and homely. photo was from Dec 2019, side order of yellowtail sashimi.
The portions were pretty small though everything tasted pretty good. The fish on the sushi was particularly tiny and esp. the toro pieces were also super thin. The toro itself was top notch though, just overpriced for the amount you get compared to other places. Because of how tiny they were, gyoza barely had any meat inside as well.
Entire menu photographed and attached to this review. Food was very good and we were seated in their small but comfortable dining area. There is street parking out front or a small lot in the back. 4/5 stars because of the raised prices being stickers on the menu and taped over. If you’re going to raise prices because that’s what’s happening in 2022 everywhere then redo the menu properly. Otherwise good experience. The optional 3-roll combos are nice.
I'm giving this place four stars based on the sushi being good, maybe not great, but the people that work there are pretty cool. This place has been struck pretty hard by COVID, so you see a lot less people there than normal. Above the sushi bar, there's a collage of photos from when this place was generating a lot more business, and now the slowdown can be seen in how the ingredients are stored at the sushi bar. Instead of having everything sprawled out across a platter where it's easy to see, most of the items are partly wrapped or found inside of Tupperware. I can't say the sushi was bad, because it wasn't, but considering the situation, I surely haven't tasted it at its best. The people there are extremely nice, and since there were not a lot of other customers in the building, they spent a lot of time conversing with me about some pretty interesting subjects. The sake special is one of the best reasons to visit this place, as it's buy one get the other for like 10¢, and overall, it's still one of the best experiences you can have in the Bay Area.
The traditional Japanese interior caught our attention and we had to give Sushi Kan a try. Pretty good sushi and donburi...great Korean pancakes, which was not expected for a restaurant that is primarily Japanese. I had an unagi donburi, which was served with only ginger. I’d prefer it with a bit of toppings like green onion to help give some flavor since the unagi is missing that real barbecue taste of a specialized unagi restaurant. The cucumber salad was decent too, but nothing special. Everyone who ordered a roll was quite happy and the fish quality on the sushi looks excellent.
Great service and atmosphere; food was a mixed bag. Sushi was of decent quality, but the oyakodon was easily the worst I've had in my life (it was basically an unseasoned, overcooked omelette with undercooked mixed vegetables mixed in with the chicken).
Darn...I walked a half mile from the hotel because I really wanted it to be good...well, the hostess was super sweet and polite. Sat at sushi bar and the chefs hardly said a word. I'm used to sushi bars being lively. Food came out very quick and was just average. Fresh, but average. I so wanted it to be better. Really lack seasoning...For the area, not bad, I mean it is downtown San jose after all. I would come back if in the area, but would not make a special trip....
Wow. I flew in abt 8:40pm and was looking for some sushi. Lyft dropped me off at the wrong spot, little did I know there were two sushi places literally next door to each other. Ok, so tonight I was going to try them both! Both had great service and very comfortable atmosphere. The friendliness of the sushi guy here was much better. However the taste and apparent quality of the sushi was lacking, just ok. Missing a little on presentation of the dishes and variety. Prices are more expensive here. It's all about food quality at sushi joints, would recommend but probably not go back.
The place was ok, honestly I had a bad experience here. Me and my co worker stayed at the Holiday inn and we decided to have dinner here. We ordered drinks and let the waiter know we still needed a couple of minutes to decide what to eat. It took them 30 minutes to get our order down because of how they kept forgetting us, I even tried letting them know we were ready to order several times. After they took our order it took another 30 minutes for our food to arrive to the table. I was ready to eat when I was presented with our food. I was disappointed at the presentation. And honestly I've had better sushi from sam's club. This was a real bad experience for me and my co worker.
Unfortunately just not great. Inside smelled something like urine, the floors were so dirty the tiles were almost black but aren't supposed to be. The ramen was very strange tasting, inedible really. The sushi was okay but felt like room temperature. Went somewhere else to eat afterwards.
we expected a lot more from this place considering the google rating, but the food was just okay at best. oregon roll (pictured) was decent. beef teriyaki was lacking flavor and more fat than meat. the food came out fast but i think the quality wasn’t there. overall not worth the price. we spent $50 to need another snack afterwards.
My wife and I ordered to chicken teriyaki bento boxes with avacado rolls. The chicken was way over cooked and dry. Avacado rolls taste very fishy and old. The fried wonton was hard and fishy. Not good experience. This place should lose their license. Food was horrible. I used to come here in the past, and something has really changed on the cooking and gone wrong. NEVER AGAIN. I warm anyone eating from here.
We came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. I chose here because of good Google reviews. This restaurant ruined our night. First, we ordered Tonkashu Ramen, and it was not Tonkashu at all! The noodle itself is made up of instant noodle! and the style of that noodle is an Korean-style noodle! The waitress was in quite a rush. She gave us the bill when we were still eating. Because of the impatiently waitress, and the weird, Korean-style Tonkashu Instant-Noodle Ramen, I gave them around 13% tips (usually I gave 18% -20%), then the worst thing happened. After taken the bill, that waitress came to our table several times to check if we have done. Last time when she came to our table, she directly took away the noodle my son did not finish. She didn’t even ask us whether we are done or not! I was furious. This thing happened a year ago, and I still remembered detail of that horrible night. Don’t trust Google reviews too much, that’s all I can say.
Ordered two California rolls and gyoza with Miso soup. The gyoza and miso soup tasted as normal as they should taste, but the California rolls had a very fishy after taste that didn’t sit well for me. I ended up getting food poisoning the next morning which was absolutely awful. Had other people in my group complain about their stomach not feeling good as well afterwards. Also service seemed a bit awkward or anxious in attending to us and would constantly stress touch their hair as they were writing our order. Personally not worth it.
The "Happy Hour" that wasn't so happy! I saw this place on 1st Street when I was on my way to the office. I noticed a sign that said 99 cent sake and 20% off sushi... happy hour 5 pm to 7 pm. The exception being sashimi and nigiri. No problem, we go in to eat. Have our "Happy Hour" sushi and saki. I find out that everything that I ordered was full price! I mention to the waitress that people should be notified on what is 20% off and what isn't. Not that I'm a cheapskate... but this is deceptive advertising. I even took pictures of the place and the banner to show proof. Granted I only had one item that was Nigri (okay, no problem). My problem is... the waitress should inform everyone when they sit down during 5 and 7... what the happy hour 20% items are. I suggest you go to Kazoo Sushi on Jackson Street in Japantown. They have fresher Sushi, better prices, great customer service and no deception. This was the first and last time I will be going to Sushi Khan. Sushi Khan is probably thinking, "who cares we don't need people like her"... But they are wrong... they do. Because dining and social media is all part of the experience, right? Bad experience = bad review. Sushi Kan accurately lives up to it's name. You've been conned at Sushi Con. Diners beware...
Do not order their daily specials. You will get 4 pieces of half-frozen, half-thawed otoro sashimi that you only find out is $42 ON THE BILL, not up front. Such a scam. The other rolls need better balance on sauce to fish ratio. When you drench the fish inn sauces, you can hardly taste the fish at all. And maybe that's the point - so you don't taste the half-thawed texture and get ripped and cheated
