This is close from the San Jose airport. I used Lyft to reach here. My Taiwanese friend ordered dim sum (shrimp dumpling, siu mai, BBQ pork steam ban, and so on). I enjoyed every single one he ordered including dessert dishes!!
We had an absolutely fantastic lunch here with the family. From start to finish, the experience was wonderful. The service was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome the entire time, which set the tone for a great meal. The food itself was outstanding. We tried a variety of dishes, including the barbecue pork bun, siu mai, beef rice noodle roll, and a vegetarian fried rice. Every item we ordered was flavorful, freshly prepared, and beautifully presented. The pork buns were perfectly soft and savory, the siu mai delicate and satisfying, and the rice noodle rolls and fried rice were full of rich, balanced flavors. It’s rare to find a place that combines consistently delicious food with such excellent service. This spot is perfect for a family outing or a casual lunch, and we’ll definitely be coming back to try even more from the menu.
10/10 Recommended. Shoutout to Ms, Grace! A few of us nursing students were on lunch and we decided to go have dinner at the restaurant. We only had 1 hour and they made sure our food was out in a timely manner so we could eat and get back to class. I was actually a little hesitant but it turned out so good. We paid $61 for 5 ppl and all the food is shareable portions. We have definitely decided to make this our regular dinner spot for school.
A Hidden Gem with Outstanding Dimsum and Dedication I visited Jade Cathay on a busy Wednesday afternoon, and despite the packed dining room and an understaffed floor, this place still managed to impress me. Let’s start with the dimsum—absolutely incredible. The siu mai were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly steamed, with that ideal balance of pork and shrimp that melts in your mouth. The BBQ pork buns were a highlight: soft, fluffy exteriors with rich, sweet-savory char siu filling that had me craving more. And the beef chow fun? Hands down one of the best I've had in the area—tender slices of beef, perfectly chewy noodles, and that unmistakable wok hei flavor that’s so hard to find these days. Even though the restaurant was clearly short-staffed, I still feel service were very attentive. As someone who has worked in a busy restaurant myself, I could see the mental and physical effort they were putting in to keep everything running. It takes real dedication to stay composed and still provide good service under pressure—and they absolutely pulled it off. I'll definitely be back again. Not only for the amazing food but also to continue supporting a restaurant where the team truly cares. Highly recommend Jade Cathay for anyone looking for authentic, high-quality dimsum with heart.
We wanted dim sum but didn’t really know which one. We decided to give Jade Cathay a try. There’s plenty of parking next to the restaurant. We were seated and we scanned the QR code and started ordered. We ordered jumbo fried crab claws, siu mai, black bean ribs, baked bbq buns, and beef chow fun with tender greens. The dim sum came out relatively quick, the black bean ribs were a decent size and tasted good. The siu mai was smaller than some places but not bad. The baked bbq buns had this amazing glaze on it and was super fluffy with great cha siu inside. The fried crab claws were huge!! It had minced shrimp and in the very middle there’s crab meat attached to the claw, it was fun to eat and very delicious. The beef chow fun was a big size but we were already pretty full after two of us ate 4 dim sums. We ended up taking a lot of the beef chow fun home to eat. The noodles had wok hay and there was plenty of beef and bok choy. Overall, pretty satisfied with the dim sum here!
Dim Sum served ALL DAY!! Finally, some quality dim sum in the South Bay! All of the dishes we got had sooo much flavor!! The deep fried items were the best we've had compared to other restaurants and of course I had to get my two favorite dishes - Chicken Feet and BBQ Pork Rice Noodle! This was my first time here. It was for a red egg and ginger party on a Saturday for lunch. The restaurant shares a parking lot, and there was plenty of parking. (There is a lightrail stop right outside, so make sure to take all your valuables with you). The food is pretty good. We had 10 courses, which were baked bbq pork buns, broccoli beef, salt pepper fish, beef chow fun, salted fish chicken fried rice, lemon chicken, mapo tofu, stir fried string beans, egg tarts and mango pudding. Our table's favorite were the string beans and salt pepper fish. I liked the mapo tofu, the egg tarts, and the mango pudding. I would come back.
Authentic dim sum restaurant experience with tons of great tasting food served hot and fresh. If you're offered the in house tea, say yes! It's amazing and goes well with the food. Service is stellar with lots of seating and servers always coming by with fresh options to try. Excellent restaurant!!
Large portions but on the expensive side so you definitely need to go with others when trying their dim sum items. Plenty to choose from by using their QR code to order. Check your items print out because the app is a bit sensitive and it’s hard to tell if the order went through. I couldn’t tell from the app. It’s pretty quick with plenty of parking and seating.
We ordered mixed chicken vegetables, beef chow fun and vegetable pot stickers. They close early — 8 p.m. You order on the mini machine at the table and then it gets sent to the kitchen. A bowl of white rice is $3. Overall great food, except the taste of the vegetable pot stickers was a bit too health.
Pretty good dim sum with all the classics. Their lobster was also executed well. Our favorites were the large shrimp dumplings and pan-fried shrimp & chive dumplings. Service was friendly and there wasn't a long wait for food. Prices were reasonable. Overall, we weren't particularly impressed but it was good.
Authentic Chinese food in a convenient location in the heart of downtown San Jose. Plenty of options and our food was tasty, but no lunch specials. Also, the appetizers came out last, several minutes after our main dish came out. So, better coordination on the food preparation would make for a 5-star experience next time. We surely would come back and dine there again, thanks to the quality of the food.
First time at this place. The general experience was good: service, food, cleanliness of the place, COVID19 restrictions. For me, to have 5 starts, they need bigger portions for every plate or be less expensive. I am aware that my options could intervene in my last point (I stuck to the dim sum section). Next time I will order different items to reaffirm this or correct it. I had: Daikon Radish Squares Sticky Rice Wraps BBQ Pork BunsFish-stuffed mushrooms Sweet & Sour Pork dumplings
This dim sum restaurant has undergone some changes. We ordered dim sum directly from a device and paid through the device. This part is convenient. The tables are well spaced too. The quality of Dim sum is a bit disappointing so it seems the improvement has been on the setting rather than the food. Among the dim sum, we like the congee and the fried shrimp dumpling. Overall expensive considering the offerings.
This Dim sum place is ok, not great nor bad. I had hot & sour soup, it was ok but not authentic due to added sugar. That pretty much destroy the sour & spicy taste. The shrimp & chives dumplings were good because due to their size but the taste was also blend of somewhat. The shrimp dumpling was also ok but size was big. Over all would I come back again, if I was close and desperate for Dim Sum then yes but if I live far the choices were no. Also price is a little deep. All that for 44.50 include 15% tip for just one person Dim sum lol
No worry for parking at all. We did go around 1230 on a weekday so maybe that's why there was a lot of spots, even on the street. Food was good, but we did have late breakfast so I was not too hungry for dim sum. Staff and services were good and fast as well. Price was decent, $65 after 15% tips OTD. Portions were big too. Not sure I would go back simply there are plenty to try out.
Dishonest female server!!! I had a very poor experience at Jade Cathay today. The food was average at best, but the service was unacceptable. My total bill was $42, and I paid $50 in cash. The female server took the money and walked away without giving me the change, even though I never told her to keep it. At first, I thought she was just busy, but it became clear she intentionally kept the change. After I waited and made it clear I expected it back, she finally returned the money — without a single apology — and with an attitude. A tip is earned, not taken. What she did was disrespectful and dishonest, and no customer should ever be treated that way. Because of this, she got no tip but this review instead. I’ve already told my family, friends, and coworkers about what happened, and we will never dine here again.
