Thanh Huong is a popular spot for banh mi, praised for its authentic, homemade taste and great value. Many reviewers consider it one of the best in the Bay Area. The service is generally quick, but some customers have reported negative experiences with service and food quality.

It's a hidden little joint. Delicious quick takeout nommies. Friendly staff They accept card payment
Great value. Delicious bahn mi sandwiches and many tasty dishes. Courteous staff
The flavor is excellent and price is reasonable. Service is also good although language might cause a small problem.
My favorite banh mi shop, lovely people, highly recommend.
Good food , nice place. i love their sandwiches. they are very juicy and tasty.
Delicious grilled pork sandwiches. I think it's $3.50 out the door. Edit: $4.50 now
The best for many years. Haven’t been since 2018 and still just as good as before!
One of the best bahn mi sandwhiches in town!
The Sandwich is $6.50 now. It tastes constantly good as always.
Good sanwich, friendly staff, easy grab and go items. Highly recommend
I love the bahn mi here. $6 cash and it’s huge
Authentic Banh Mi and authentic no frills Vietnamese coffee, will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.
Our friend introduced us to this place, we have tried their sandwiches, it tastes good and freshly made. I would recommend this place if you want to try out/love Vietnamese food.
They have the best Bbq pork sandwich in the South Bay, period!
Always hot food n ready fast and most of all so many new things to try. Just moved to San Jose so it was a lovely new experience I’ve never had Vietnamese food.
Great Bahn mi- one of the best in South Bay
Mmmmmmmm quality banh mi!!!!! Good hot food spread too but honestly it's always just banh mi to go for the friends who love this place, and not hard to see why!
Arguably the best banh mi in the south bay (Order #2 every time). Usually get a tray of banh cuon each time I go. Party favorite.
I've been to this place many times back on my single days. Kind of remind me Oriental Express in San Gabriel - cheap, large quantity, fast and catering well to Asian taste.
Love love love this place! Friendly, clean and reasonably priced food. Great banh mi sandwiches!
My favorite restaurant to get banh mi and other dishes early in the morning! Get the Cha Lua!!
Best Fish Sandwhich I have ever tasted yes Vietnamese Sandwich. The customer service was so friendly.
The servers here are really sweet Vietnamese ladies 💙🧡❤️ pate is the BEST and I’m viet, so I KNOW. Price are average market price 👍 always will be returning here for my banh mi ⭐️
Their banh mi is great! They have healthy portions of meat in there. It's one of the few places where you can get some pandan waffles too.
Oh man! What a pleasant surprise in the North San Jose area. Giant $5.50 banh mi that stand up to anything you can find in Hanoi. They also serve very decent bun cha. I will be back.
This place has been around for a while and the quality of the food is consistent. I love their Sandwiches, especially the BBQ pork. The meat is fresh and juicy, plus they get the seasoning just right - it's not too salty. They don't overdo it with butter and pate but add just the right amount. Despite to that their bread is always freshly baked and crunchy. Besides sandwiches they offer a good selection of other prepared, warm Vietnamese dishes such as fried noodles. While this is not the primary reason to come here, also that food is usually on point. The only thing that they could improve is their coffee, it has too much ice and too little coffee. Be prepared to pay cash as they don't take credit cards here.
Best banh mi in town! I got the thit nuong (grilled pork) and #2. High quality meat and very generous portion. I also tried their banh cuon which is made in house. Also had their eggs rolls and it’s so flavorful! I highly recommend this place. Also the owner Kevin is a nice funny guy so it is great to see him when I am there :)
Sandwich was delicious. Bread was fluffy and crispy. Meat was flavorful. Great for the price. Beef noodles was superb. Will come back.
Fresshhh bread tasty sando, yummy VN iced coffee. A little out of the way and kinda tight parking... Udderdendat GO!
Amazing banh mi - the grilled pork was the tastiest I have ever had and one sandwich fed both hubsky and me. It was huge! The egg rolls stayed crispy even after a 2 hour ride in the car. Am trying to figure out how to get back here on the way back from our trip even though that would be out of the way!
Truly classic Bahn Mi and other Vietnamese fare. One of my favorite weekend lunch spots. Just be careful, the parking lot is very small and is often packed. You might want to consider parking on the residential side streets...
The sandwich was delicious and the bread was freshly made. All the ingredients were fresh and savory. Make sure you ask for the special sauce, it's like a red chilli cup and make the sand 10" better.
They're open super early and unlike other sandwich places they actually have other items available, not just the sandwiches, at that hour. The food quality is solid and consistent. Prices are reasonable and customer service is good.
I ordered the special rice combo. The broken rice was cooked just right, the meat very moist and delicious, the fish sauce perfect for the right balance of sweet sour and salty! Love it!
Have loved this place for years. My go to for banh mi. Also like all the snacks I find. They offer pho. If anything, you need to also try their Vietnamese coffee.
Where else can you go at 6am to eat Vietnamese food? And for that they get 5 stars. The sandwiches are actually good, but it's hard to complete against Duc Huong. Go for the entree dishes instead.
Delicious! Good priced and accept credit card! Love their spring rolls. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The food is so fresh - my dad loves the vietnamese sandwiches - he goes here literally 3 times a week!
Banh mi for $8. It wad decent but I prefer Duc Huong (not the location next door). The egg roll for $1.35 was one of the best I've ever had. I believe it includes taro
One of my favorite places to get a banh mi in this area. I always try to drop in whenever I can to get one of their big sandwiches. Its a flat 8 dollars for any of the sandwiches they make. My favorite and recommended are the good ol combo and grilled chicken with pate ( #2 and #13 respectively). The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect vessle to hold all the delicious, fresh, and tasty ingredients added. Its quite bigger than most banh mi's in the area so you will definitely get your money's worth. The sandwiches usually span into a 2 meal sandwich for me. Theres also an a-la-carte station thats besides the banh mi area that sells Vietnamese side dishes to go. The a la carte area and sandwich area have 2 different lines.
I don't like the inconvenience of cash-only establishments. I rarely ever have cash. But if they're accepting cash-only payments to keep their prices low, I'm A-okay with that. This Vietnamese deli does have quite a bit of space and a few tables, but it does show its age. The menus clearly haven't been updated in a long time. They've crossed out the old prices with black Sharpie. I'm loving all their cost cutting practices. If I do say so myself, the hard plastic seats, sticky tabletops, and low health score, are indicative of traits we tend to associate with a more authentic establishment, are they not? They offer hot food combo items, banh mi , pre-made delicacies, sweets, tea-based beverages, and last, but not least... $0.50 cent baguettes! They stick the baguettes in a bin, so they may not look like much, but they are thick and pillowy, with a crunchy crust. It's very convenient when you want some bread at home, but can't finish a two-foot long baguette. Well... who am I kidding? Of course, I can finish a two-foot baguette, but that's besides the point. I've only ever had the banh mi, which are around a friendly price of $5 (outdated menus say $3.50), and they do them pretty well. These are about the size of a forearm, and made with flavorful meats, crisp pickled carrots, daikon, topped with lots of cilantro and jalapenos, and most importantly, they are very generous with the pate. Some of my sandwiches had pate oozing out. My favorites of the bunch are: Banh mi Pate Xa Xiu - BBQ Pork w/ Pate, Banh mi Thit Cha - Ham & Steamed Pork w/ Pate, Banh mi Thit Nuong - Grilled Pork. Thanh Huong's selection is plentiful and varied, so naturally I find all the food piled around the countertops quite overwhelming. But I am curious to try something different and would love recommendations for something other than banh mi here.
Favorite bánh mì spot in San Jose and I’ve tried plenty! Thanh Huong has the best pate. My entire family craves it! I always ask for extra pate and even take a tub to go with some bread for family parties. You can’t go wrong with any of the bánh mì. Some of my favorites is the ham, seasoned pork, and combination.
This is probably one of the best hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurants I’ve been to in the Bay! First time here and I wanted to buy everything. There’s so many options to choose from. The pork bahn mi and the beef noodle soup were sooooo good!
Great banh mi place in East san jose. Prices have gone up since 6 but still decent value compared to other restaurants. They also take cards, unlike a lot of other banh mi places. Bbq pork banh mi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: still good as ever with crispy bread and tender meat. Just a solid banh mi that I don't think you can go wrong with.
Parking was a bit empty when I arrived to this place and it’s close to Great Mall. I was looking around Vietnamese restaurants that serve Bahn Mi sandwiches around where I live. I wasn’t really surprised when the interior of this place has products all over the lobby, but that is considered fine since some of these restaurants are like that. They also serve pho and rice plates too, but this is a more of a take out place mainly Bahn Mi sandwiches. Vietnamese sandwiches are much cheaper than regular ones, which is why I decided to have one of those instead.
Tried a lot banh mis in the bay area and the banh mis here are amongst the best. They taste very homemade and remind me of the ones i’ve tried in Vietnam! They’re also a great value, about $8 for a good portion.

Great value and tasty food. I always go to for their banh mis, especially #1 with an egg. Really appreciate the fast service and their friendly employees.
Great banh mi spot, no frills, quick bite there or to go! They have other premade packaged foods, fresh baked bread & Viet coffee too.
Great prices and quick service. I ordered the grilled pork Bahmi. Tasted great. Not mind-blowing but reliable for a quick lunch on the go. There's other Vietnamese good as well.
The pork banh mi sandwich was the best one I've ever had. The bread was perfect soft inside and crunchy on the outside. All the veggies were fresh and tasty. The pork was very tasty and a very large portion. My wife didn't enjoy her tofu sandwich but she should know better. I told her pork would be better.

Really good sandwich #2 with extra pate and cilantro Mmmm looked so good I couldn't take the picture before I bit it lol sorry. Coming back
Best viet sandwiches in town. Need to ding them 1 star for being a cash-only joint.
Authentic recipes full of native flavors. This is one "Vietnamese" place that haven't changed their flavor to "Americanized"....yet.
Been here since before great mall was constructed, I think. Nice old fashion VN food.
This little bahn mi place is tidy, clean, and inexpensive, with friendly helpful staff. And their sandwiches are giant! I'd recommend takeout over dine in because seating is limited and doesn't look very comfortable.
Service with a smile, fast, hard to find in most sandwich restaurants. Food is good, sandwiches have good flavor, this properly my favorite place for banh mi!
Watch out for the small parking lot. It gets pretty busy and it's a high traffic store. Try the iced Vietnamese coffee and a banh mi sandwich. If you're into eggs and taiwanese sausage, then I highly recommend the #20.
Very good sandwiches. The service is fast. Even the menu has only iced coffee (cà phê sữa đá), you can ask for hot coffee (served with condensed milk)
A Traditional Vietnamese sandwiches and meal restaurant. I ordered No.17 cause I love the sandwiches with pate
On west bound of N. Capitol Ave. close to Great Mall. Go to place for Bánh mì sandwiches. Also large selection of hot dishes and sweets. Small store front parking lot.
Quality and hours are decent. Prices keep going up though. More than doubled in 10 years. If only my wages or investments followed the same path...
They have so many varieties of banh mi. #6 and #12 are vegetarians. Staffs were great.
Banh mi sandwiches are the best here and very cheap. Around 4 dollars. Cash only
In and out. Quick and easy. And decent selection of good amount of typical Vietnamese food dishes, appetizers, drinks, desserts, and snacks. Popular quick bites are: banh cay (spicy cassava fritter sticks), egg rolls, banh cam (sweet mung bean sesame balls), banh cuon (steamed rice rolls), and ready-made wrapper meals such grilled shrimp/grilled pork with vermicelli noodle, roasted chicken with rice, shrimp spring rolls, vegetarian spring rolls. But if you are not in a hurry and have 5 to 10 minutes to spare, Thanh Huong offers a pretty good selection of delicious Vietnamese baguette sandwiches (banh mi) which I must say, tastes better than sandwiches from other Vietnamese fast-food restaurants. Actually, I visit TH a lot for their sandwiches and quick appetizers...yum yum yum. They also offer hot 2-item combo to-go meal for $9 and 3-item to-go meal for $11. Because each to-go meal variety went up by $2, I knock off 1 star for this TH location review. PS: for buy 2 Vietnamese sandwiches, get the 3rd sandwich free, go to Banh Mi Baguette (formerly Saigon Bakery) in the Asian Plaza on Tully Rd and McLaughlin Ave in San Jose:). Bon appetit!!
My go to spot for Viet cuisine, mostly due to convenience. I live hella close! The food here is very good tho! Over the years I've seen prices steadily rise...adjusting for inflation. They aren't the cheapest Viet spot around, there are few others, but the quality of food and the the consistency is very comforting. The Vietnamese Sandwiches are generally my go to. Try them with a Fried EGG! GAMECHANGER...Your'e welcome! The staff is fast, efficient and always busy. I do have some communication issues at times. English is definitely not their first language. Usually customers jump in and help me out when I'm looking for something I don't. So I don't really have any complaints ~ Vietnamese Sandwiches - 4/5 I think I tried all of the over the years! Just depends on preference. The Bread is always fresh and the Fried Egg...OMG!! They actually tell you not to buy the old bread / yesteryears haul if you pick it up by accident. ~ Bánh Cuốn - 4/5 (Pork & Mushroom Rice Rolls) Brilliant! I always look for these. Tasty and light. I can eat the whole tray to myself! Still CASH ONLY!!!
Had a #1 bahn mi, yummy. Parking is a little tight, but doable. This place has a good assortment of other dishes besides bahn mi's.
Nice, decent place for lunch or take-away orders, with variety of reasonably priced, good Vietnamese foods. The downside is the restroom which should be better taken care of. It's a pity that credit cards are not accepted here (which would have otherwise gained more revenue for the owner).
Our family likes the sandwiches, pandan waffles and the eggrolls. The prepared food always looks interesting, but have yet to try it. The prices are ok. I really hate the fact this place is cash only. That's one reason we haven't bought any of the steam table food. We don't really carry to much cash with us and honestly who does anymore. There are tables there if you want to eat your food at the restaurant or just take it with you. Drink selection are limited.
Great Vietnamese sandwiches (prefer the bbq pork with pate). Also, like the ready-to-go meals and jelly drinks too. Cash only. I prefer this location compared to the Senter Rd. store. Parking lot is a bit small during lunch rush.
Clean restaurant. Respectful staff. No chefs here, but it's "perfectly fine" Vietnamese foods and sandwiches. They were out of a fish sandwich I wanted, but I was brave and tried their sardine sandwich. It was sardines, after all, but I was glad to try something new. If you don't like peppers, remember to pick them out of your food because they're all pre-made one way unless you see something being made in front of you for you, like a sandwich. Tell them, "please, NO PEPPER, Thank you ma'am!". (One in my party was sensitive to peppers.)
Like most Vietnamese restaurant/store. Food is great, staff is nice enough for you to ask what is what.
My family and me have been visiting this deli since I was young. Nothing much has changed if not pricing to adjust for inflation and post-covid supply chain disruptions. I do notice a Chinese man standing outside asking for money which I found odd. Allegedly, the staff told me that his issues were either gambling debts or a drug addiction.
Decent vegetarian banh mi, I feel I’ve had better in SF but love the authenticity of the store! They have a lot more Vietnamese speciality foods and drinks. I need take one of my Vietnamese friends here to explain me what each thing is :) and whether I can eat it haha. Really cool place!
Bread could have been toasted a bit more. Sandwich is well balanced with meat and veggies. The shrimp pork goi cuon was very good and fresh. A bit pricey, $6 for the sandwich and $6 for spring rolls. I would return.

This place is a fantastic spot for authentic Vietnamese food! The moment I walked in, the cozy atmosphere and the smell of fresh herbs and spices made me feel like I was in Vietnam. I ordered the pho and the spring rolls, and both were amazing—the broth was rich and flavorful, and the rolls were fresh and crispy. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable, which is always a win. The staff was friendly and attentive, though the service was a bit slow, probably because it was busy. The only downside was that the place is pretty small, so finding a table during peak hours can be a challenge. Also, the parking situation wasn’t great, so I had to circle around for a bit. But honestly, the food more than made up for it. If you’re craving real Vietnamese flavors, this is the spot!

Not a fan of this place. My fried tofu Banh mi tasted very bland and just had lot of flavourless shredded fried tofu. Chicken plate was ok.
Good food, but they have consistantly over charged me and left food out of my order. I have decided to drive a few more miles to get my bahn mi and not give them my business again.
This is my new favorite Vietnamese sandwich place. I like that they use a Mexican bolillo for the sandwich. They are also open at six in the morning.
I'm usually not negative but....I came to this place because of the reviews and primarily prices. Their hours of operation are excellent which is another reason I came. I don't like breakfast foods and this place is open early and late.Online prices in Google reflect 8.99 for soup and 4 bucks for a ban mi. Also the link for the menu has the same prices. In the store, all prices are marked out with a black marker. I ordered #1 pork leg. The picture on the TV menu inside look amazing for this item. There are about 1/3 of the toppings on it and they were 4 shrimp, 2 blood cubes, 2 pieces of pork loin, cilantro, lemon, bean sprouts. Like receiving the WISH version of the meal. The picture is a pork leg with bone, loin and covered completely in other toppings, the sandwich is decent size, on the larger end. The soup was decent. The issue I had was that when I ordered, they charged me $15 for the soup and $8 for the sandwich. That's nearly double. I don't know if it because I am only half asian and only speak English, but I hope not. That's a completely different issue. Or its that prices just went wayyyyy up and theybhavent updated anything. So I'm paying full restaurant prices for street food service and product, except the food average. They do offer a variety of food and it all seems like it would be good, but don't think I'll be back. I had really good PHO down the street at a full service place for 13.95, which is pretty standard. Cash only not an issue for me because I don't want the government to take it from working people. So I understand.
Pretty great Banh Mi , pretty bad pandan/coconut waffles. However I don’t like that it’s cash only (seems a bit shady in 2020, and a little meh during corona) But the the grilled pork in the sandwich has a good marinade and the bread is nice. Sandwich : 4.1 Waffle : 0
Small selection the bigger one is on tully way better
Our go to place for Vietnamese sandwich. They have ready cooked food for take out( sell by weight) or order from the menu and eat there. Some selection of drinks and dessert. Service is fast, small and narrow parking lot. Cash only sell.

They used to be my favorite in the area, but they have gone down. There was chicken bone and tendants in my sandwich, as if they chop up a whole chicken nice and good, then throw everything in the sandwich. It was not pleasant to eat. The pork bahn mi was still good, as well as there seasame bread.
Low Quality and over price. Expired food, rude, incompetent. Dirty and filthy bad parking!!!
This is terrible place - terrible customer service. If there is zero star, I would give to this place. If you come here around 7pm, better dont come, nothing left except Banh Mi. They will close at 7:30pm but they cleaned everything at 7pm (actually 6:45pm). Plus the lady at the food counter (not banh mi counter) have bad manners. I would not recommend anyone to come to this place!
Would not recommend this. Maybe it was just an off day but the nuoc mia, sugarcane juice, was disgusting. Really dark brown in color and tasted nothing like what I am used to. I think it had been left out and went bad, not fresh. Bahn mi, is average here. The bread is too sry for my taste and too much of it for the quantity of meat inside.
We got Grilled Pork Banh Mi and Grilled Chicken Banh Mi for to go. The Grilled pork one was very dry and not seasoned at all, the chicken was little better than that. The bread felt like it was of good quality. Atmosphere and ambiance felt okayish and we felt a strong smell as we entered. Overall do not recommend this place.
I was told a Vietnamese coffee was 7 dollars - expensive right? Anyways I asked for light ice. The coffee was not full and came with 2/3 ice. Basically was given an answer of tough luck. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Go somewhere else!

Becareful w/ their grilled chicken. Some of grilled chickens tasted like it was left over many days ago. I couldn't eat and had to throw away a few purchased from this place. I lost trust and won't come back.
don't go there unless you speak their language! service there was lousy; even the other customers were unfriendly!! the food in warmer trays didn't look fresh & sitting there unappetizing!!! should've walked-out instead buy something; but, I was hungry
The woman serving rice to customers had very rude and unprofessional gestures, and her face looked unpleasant and unfriendly. I will never come back.
