We ate at Roots with our family of 18. Initially the reservation manager had told us that we would have to have three separate tables at two different times but when inquiring with the hostess, the restaurant manager, Yesenia Pastor, heard our request, she immediately set the team to work setting up one big table for 18. We were so excited it was the first time during the family trip that we had all been able to sit together. My in-laws were thrilled to be surrounded by family. Karla was our waitress and took excellent care of us. We have many allergies in our family, including gluten, dairy, soy, shellfish, etc. and she worked with the Chef to make sure we were all very clear on what we could order and everyone was very pleased. No one got sick. We couldn’t have had better service even with all the allergy questions. We immediately made a reservation to come back later in the trip. Everyone agreed it was the favorite meal. Thank you to Yesenia and Karla!

Date night was amazing. The food was so good we ate here twice. We were in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 for vacation and this was one of the best restaurants we ate at. The guava ribs, Mac n cheese and loaded Mash potatoes were amazing. Dessert had some interesting item but we were opened to trying new things. Popcorn ice cream for him and banana bread with oatmeal ice cream for me. I was so upset I was so full I couldn't finish my dessert. Lol.

Delicious! Husband and I came here for dinner during our honeymoon, he had the ribs and I had shrimp tacos, and the flavors were lovely. I’d never had a hard-shelled plantain taco before either, and it worked surprisingly well. Service was great as well.

The service was excellent and the meals were delicious. It is recommended that you make reservations in advance. The Tai style clam chowder soup was next level of tasty. We also ordered the chicken empanadas as the appetizer, and they turned out to be delicious. For main courses we ordered the special of the day which was steaks and pasta. The swordfish with curry was delicious. The wine was exquisite. Recommended.

Delicious meal. We really enjoyed the grilled octopus - perfectly done and NOT rubbery. The squash and plantains were a very tasty surprise. The locally sourced sword fish was one of the best prepared we’ve eaten. Perfectly seared most yet firm. Incredibly well done. Cheyenne is a professional and meticulous server. Pro-tip do not arrive exactly at 5 pm for an early reservation. They usually need a few minutes and the reception was rather assertive. When we had breakfast the next day Angelo was a wonderful server and Magda Williams was very helpful.

Good gluten-free options for my wife. They offer a gluten-free cauliflower crust for their pizzas, and gluten-free buns for their sandwiches. She chose a gluten-free pizza and quarter lettuce wedge, and I enjoyed a fancy green salad (healthy arugula lettuce) and the double smash burger and fries.

Mac & cheese super cheesy love it! doubled meat burger and Wedge salad portion was good but the pork belly on it was fire! The bartender took good care of us. Oh yeah I forgot to mentioned we got peanut butter ice cream which is not blue bell but still great!

Excellent food, wonderful ambiance and great cocktails. Our waiter was amazing as well. The restaurant is a little hard to find when you enter the main entrance of the hotel, but if you ask the staff they will direct you easily.

We came here because Iguana restaurant was booked. My wife is vegetarian and the menu options sounded appealing. We were very pleasantly impressed with the ambience, service and food! So much so that we are planning to go there again. We got the Empanadas, Naan, Deviled eggs for apps and everything was delicious! The Raita with the Naan, while opposite of chunky, was flavorful and tasted pretty authentic Indian. For entrees, we ordered the veggie pizza and the chicken pasta with chicken on the side. Pizza was amazing. The spicy peppers made all the difference - I don’t like spicy food, but this had the right tanginess to it. For drinks, we ordered wine, the mango rum drink and the rum old fashioned. All drinks were very well made. Overall, the staff was great and attentive. The ambience was very pleasant. A must if you are staying here.

Espectacular experiencia!!! Su oferta gastronómica es muy buena y todos los platos tienen una receta muy especial con sazones, salsas o glaseados diferentes. La calidad y frescura de todo es notable y el servicio excelentísimo comenzando por el Gerente el Sr. Pabón. Equipo de trabajo muy amables todos y atentos a los detalles de cada comensal. This restaurant is excellent. Everything ordered from appetizers to entree to the desert (portions are huge) and drinks were wonderful. The tuna, Salmon and swordfish were perfect, and we also had the shrimp and grits that was tasty and flavorful. The deserts - two scoop chocolate and chocolate layer cake were huge and it too a while to finish everything. I think they make the best chocolate corals at this restaurant- the old fashioned and martinis were great. It is not inexpensive but definitely worth the price.

We had breakfast here the next day and Victoria was a joy to connect with as our server. Kept good conversation going and recommended some of the best juice. She also recommended another restaurant which ended up being our favorite while we were here. The last day we had Axel as our server and he was on point from start to finish. Shoutout to Judy for the delicious omelets. The all you can eat breakfast was the way to go. Oh I forgot their coconut ice cream and taro root was on another level of flavor! The to go crew was as kind as can be! Keep smiling you all did great!!

Hands down THE BEST SHRIMP & GRITS we have ever tried. The grits were so creamy.. The cheese wasn’t too overbearing. Then to top it off. The roux was amazing & it was red! I don’t like the dark brownish roux. This one had fresh tomato 🍅, corn, shrimp, sausage & purple onions. Omg delicious 😋.. definitely having again before our trip ends. Plus our server was amazing as well! Oh & can not forget about the Swordfish, Curry Squash & Coconut Rice. Dessert was awesome!

For the price, we were pretty disappointed. Our $18 Caesar Salad had no dressing at all and was just the worst part of the lettuce, including 2 cores. The apricot chicken was actually very delicious. I recommend! My whiskey sour was subpar, but my husband enjoyed the flavor of the roots old fashioned. The staff was friendly, although, I do wish there was some kind of reaction when I said the salad wasn't great. I'm not good at being confrontational about that stuff, but he should have asked, what was wrong. Based on the unique menu, and the fact the chicken was really good, we will give it another try. Quite disappointed with my $18 salad having so few toppings - it's pretty embarrassing to skimp on such high margin vegetables at a resort. 2 stars because my husband's fried chicken was pretty good and they are open late.

No apology. If you’ve viewed my other restaurant reviews each review earned a 4-5 star rating - with a 4.9 average - says a lot. My wife has already finished her meal, and I’m still waiting for my cooked meal. Been here before- always average , ergo I didn’t post - the last two times have been worse. Message to owner- overall restaurants at rio mar are subpar - don’t strive to be best of the worst- instead make a difference. When the restaurant first opened years ago, it was very good- it’s been downhill ever since the beginning.

The location is beautiful and the drinks were good. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was lacking. Despite making reservations in advance for an indoor booth, we were seated outdoors upon checkin. Thankfully, the weather was decent and our children appreciated the opportunity to run around outside while we waited for service/food. The service was very slow and we spent a considerable amount of time waiting to place our order. Our waiter was friendly during the limited interactions we had with him. The portion size/quality did not align with the cost. We ordered biscuits for the table however the portion size is small (2 biscuits) and not worth the price. The swordfish curry was dry and the burger was average. Our children did enjoy their kid burgers. We were disappointed with the quality and enjoyed the local cuisine off resort more.
