The live band (Richmond Kings) was GREAT!!! The atmosphere was Irish American, inviting, and spacious. The bartender was friendly, fun, and attentive. They also have a pool table. Very cool place! I'll definitely be going back.

Best bar in San Mateo. Old fashioned wood bar is from another era and must be seen to be appreciated. The rest of the place is modern and up to date. Go there.

Too much testosterone in here for me but the ambiance is nice and the staff is very kind and friendly. The pool tables are a plus

Went to McGoverns due to the last time at Eddy's Sports Bar smelt like a urinal. Walked in tonight to McGoverns and the first thing we smelt was a urinal. Smelt like they mopped the bar with a dirty urinal mop. If it wasn't for the female bartender

McGovern's Bar is a great place to hangout with friends. The drinks are reasonably priced. But the place could be cleaner. The tables are sticky and the beer pong cups are moldy. Atmosphere: Has a chill and inviting atmosphere. My friends and I usually play darts, pool, and beer pong. They have a foosball table as well. Drinks: They have a wide selection of beers on tap, and an okay selection of spirits and wines. The cocktails are bad though, so I would recommend sticking with the basics. They have a shot and free 24oz PBR beer deal. Service: The service at McGovern's Bar is friendly and attentive. The bartenders are always happy to make recommendations, and they are quick to get your drinks. Parking: There is street parking available, but it can be difficult to find in the afternoon (night time is not busy). There is also a parking garage located a few blocks away. I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun/affordable place to chill with friends.

Grungy but familiar local bar. Very dark, lit by the lights of the glowing video game and pinball machines in the back. When it picks up, though, there are a few interesting characters. Good beer selection and the owner is friendly and knowledgeable.

Big bar that always seems empty. Wish they would clean the place, kinda gross. Alcohol is great!

Having a good time, and we notice a large man come in and lean against the bar and start messing around with a taser. Like turning it on inside to show it off. Not a biggie, we laughed about it, just kind of small D energy. Then my boyfriend goes to get a second round and the big guy turns around and ask him for ID (mind you they’ve already served us). My boyfriend gives him his FEDRAL ISSUED passport ID card and he says they won’t serve us. He didn’t even glance at it just said he wouldn’t accept it. Also keep in mind we moved back to our home town of San Mateo recently and since then we’ve been coming here a lot for our nights out. We have not once had this issue. Seems like security guard with some ego issues, flexing a taser and denying regulars they’ve already served.

Bar is kinda dirty , bartender is one of the worst and rude in the area . Should be fired right away . Everybody I speak to about this agrees with me . .. if they clean it more and change the bartender I would be willing to improve this score

I used to stop by this place on regular bases and always got great cervice. Friday evening, 2 bartenders. Female chit chatting with a group of her friends , making one drink after another. The male walked passed me and left the serving area. From now on, ill come in on evenings when the " dynamic " i hope they get jobs somewhere else soon, is NOT destroying the reputation of this establishment.
