Opinions de Samikacha Momo San Mateo
This restaurant came highly recommended by my Nepalese friend specifically for their momos — and let’s be honest, if a Nepalese person says the momos are legit, you know they’re the real deal. I recently visited and tried the Jhol Paneer Momos, Chilli Chicken Momos, and Tikka Masala Paneer Momos — every single one was absolutely immaculate. I also ordered the Chilli Gobi Chowmein, and it was bursting with flavor — spicy, crispy, and perfectly balanced. It is on the pricier side but the Momo’s are filling and big. If you’re on the hunt for the best momos in town, this place should be at the top of your list. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed my Halal Chicken Paanak with Basmati Rice. Freshly prepared, a little spicy. Very good service. The restaurant was tidy and each diner was enjoying their food! I’d like to return to taste more Indo-Chinese cuisine!
We had the jhol chicken momo and then the tandoori momos. Both of them were excellent and tasted very fresh. Piping hot straight from the kitchen. Definitely a restaurant worth visiting again, I would like to try other things on their menu
We liked the food! Tandoori momos were delicious!
A delicious Nepalese restaurant that is open late. Might be easy to overlook given it is tucked next to some fairly busy restaurants in San Mateo, but their food is definitely worth checking out. Service is friendly and personal, and the dining area is VERY clean. The menu has an array of Nepalese dishes as well as various familiar Indian and Chinese items. Of the many dishes I had tried -- all which I'd have again -- the Chicken Momo is what I'd certainly come back for. Think chicken dumpling, but with a distinctively different set of spices and a chutney. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options here. As far as meats are concerned, you will find chicken, lamb, goat, and fish.
We were in downtown San Mateo looking for a place to eat on Saturday night. We stumbled upon samikcha momo and knew we had to order some momo dumplings. We got the chicken dumplings steamed, the lamb biryani, and the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The momos were big and came with a curry sauce dip, it had plenty of meat and some juice inside the dumplings, highly recommend it. The lamb Briyani was okay, we have definitely had better and the lime was interesting. The garlic naan was amazing and fresh, thin, and fluffy. It went really well with the chicken tikka masala dish. I would come back here again.
Enjoyed veg chowmein and Paneer Tikka masala with Cheese naan. Service was good and enjoyed the environment. You can also enjoy a variety of Nepalese cuisines along with Indian foods.
Reminiscent of momo places in Kolkata and Nepal Tip for those not familiar with these foods...just stick to the Nepali , Indo-Chinese or grilled fare. Delicious steamed and fried momos Fantastic authentic butter naan..not the thick dough served in most places, but the way naan is meant to be..thin and buttery The noodles were fresh, tasty, and not oily at all. Eating this food hot and at the restaurant is best

Off-the-charts Himalayan-Indian food! The best I've had. Dreaming about their must-get tandoori veggie momos. This spot makes you feel like you traveled very far, to a tiny village in Nepal, when all you did was drive 10 minutes. It has nonstop homemade delicious dishes, like their sumptuous butter chicken, buttery and crispy roti, tandoori momo (one of five different kinds of momos you can choose from!), masala chai, and their samosa chaat. Loved everything and would get most of it again. Real kind guy served our food and checked in on us, never felt rushed, played cards and enjoyed. Recommending this tiny spot to everybody. 5 stars!!!!
Highly recommend this place. The food quality, quantity & taste was good. Liked the hospitality and fair-priced. Service at point and friendly staffs. I have had a lot of indo Chinese food but this steals the show for me. Especially the chicken manchurian and zhol momos was out of this world. I’ll say the best Momo place in San Mateo. Must try.
This place is such an underrated gem! The butter chicken is honestly the best I’ve ever had in my life. Do yourself a favor and get the cheesy naan to dip into that buttery goodness, it’s incredible! Everything we’ve tried here has been delicious from the fried chicken momo and masala garlic fries to the tandoori lamb and more. I haven’t tried their Asian dishes yet, like the chow mein, but that’s definitely next on my list. The customer service has always been great, the place is clean, and the prices are reasonable. I also really appreciate that they offer halal options, which can be hard to find in this area. Definitely treat yourself and experience all that flavor!
I just ordered their Lamb Biryani and the reviews did not lie… The food was amazing! I just found a new go to spot and it was very random too. Well seasoned, tender with a nice level of spice.
Amazing food! Their momos are excellent. Very authentic. My favorite is their tandoori paneer momo. Very unique to this place. Haven’t had anywhere else. Overall, highest recommendation.

My husband and I frequent this restaurant on a weekly/once every 2 week basis - consistently excellent food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and good pricing. We highly recommend the Paneer Tikka Masala, Mirchi Naan, and their momo selection. ❤️

We tried Samikcha on a whim while walking around downtown San Mateo for dinner. It took a bit of time to decide which momo to order, but we ended up with the tandoori momo. It arrived on a steaming iron plate, similar to Korean BBQ, and was delicious. This was a first for us—Chinese dumplings with Indian curry—and the flavors worked together really well. The dumplings were cooked perfectly. The mixed Sichuan chowmein was overall peppery with a familiar, slight electric pepper buzz, though we wished it had more vegetables mixed in. The halal chicken curry was flavorful with tender meat. Unfortunately, the naan was a bit dry with a burnt garlic taste. Despite a few small issues, it was a good value for the money and the taste. We'll definitely have to go back to try their other momo flavors and dishes.
I recently ordered dinner to go from Samikcha Momo and tried the Coconut Chicken Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala. The service was friendly and efficient, and both dishes were flavorful and well-prepared. My only minor critique is that the portion sizes could be a bit more generous for the price. Overall, I definitely recommend this place for anyone craving tasty and authentic dishes.
We had a good lunch at Samikcha momo recently over the weekend. It was not crowded at all for a Saturday however I did notice quite a few takeout orders with an hour. My husband has been here multiple times and recommended that we try it out especially momos and gobhi machurian. We tried paneer tikka masala momo version and gobhi manchurian and both were delicious. We also tried vegetarian fried rice and chowmein which were ok. Overall the service was decent and appetizers great.
At first, I thought we would have Indochinese cuisine, but it turned out to be Indian-Nepali. The food was good nonetheless. The store gave off a cozy and warm feeling even though the restaurant was small. The staff were nice and friendly. The food was good. It was my first time eating the Nepali cuisine, but the dishes were up to my taste buds. My favorite out of all the dishes would be their steamed paneer momo. It tasted really good. If I returned, I would order it again. The second dish I liked would be chicken manchurian. It tasted quite similar to sweet & sour chicken in a Chinese restaurant, but the taste was not really the same. It was delicious nonetheless. The other dishes were up to par. We ordered one shrimp biryani, one lamb curry, plain naan and masala chai.
In search of a late night restaurant as I had to work late, so we decided to check this place out as the momos were what caught my attention. The menu has quite a few items that it took us a minute to decide what to order. We went with: 1) Lamb biryani - hubs really liked this dish, especially paired with the cucumber yogurt sauce they brought or with the tikka masala. Quite flavorful. 2) Lamb Tikka Masala - the lamb was tender and enjoyed the sauce with the Naan. 3) Butter and garlic naans - both arrived hot. The garlic naan was full of garlic flavor - more so than others we've had. Yum! 4) Momos - Didn't realize they had a variety of ways in which they prepare their momos in addition to the steamed or fried versions that we're most familiar with. So, we decided to try the tandoori style chicken momo. This dish arrived last and was served on a sizzling platter - probably my fave dish. Very flavorful - so good with the onions from the platter. If I wasn't so full, I would've ordered more different versions of their momos to try. The waiter was very attentive and checked on us very often. Can't wait to return to try other items.
Ordered steamed chicken momos and the jhol chicken momos. They were both delicious! Insider tip - they have spicier sauce for the momos as well but you have to ask for it. The jhol momo was better than most I’ve had. Service was great as well!

Samikcha Momo has fantastic food and is absolutely worth visiting—especially for anyone who has tasted the delicate, balanced flavors of Indian-Nepali cuisine in India and struggles to find places in the Bay Area that truly replicate them. The chili paneer is lovely, nicely spiced without being overly hot, so you get the flavor and warmth without the uncomfortable after-burn. The egg fried rice is super well done, with crispy bits of rice that add texture and depth. It’s flavorful but not spicy, which makes it approachable for a wide range of people. The dumplings are made with halal meat, and they’re juicy with just the right amount of seasoning. Good, solid momos. The jhol momos are especially great, the broth adds another layer of flavor that elevates the dish. The combo plates are a smart option if you want to sample multiple items in one go, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions. Overall, a strong choice for comforting, well-executed Indian-Nepali food.
We had chicken steamed momos, chicken tandoori momos and chicken chowmein between 2 adults and a 4 year old. Food was tasty and enough for us. We also ordered chai but it was too milky for my taste.
This simple and small place stays open late night :) it was a busy for a Monday night but we got our food fast! Had gobi Manchurian, samosa and Chana saag. Food was good 😊 I’ll say for me lacked a little flavor and salt! Mom had the tea masala chai and she said was delicious. As for prices I think is average most things cost about $15 and samosas I thought it was a bit over priced $8 for 2 small samosas.
We went to this place after reading a lot of positive reviews. I wish I could rate this place with negative stars. We had ordered Garlic Tikka Fries,Chilli Paneer Bhaat Bowl and VEG MOMOS. The Garlic Tikka Fries were under seasoned fries sprinkled with some garlic. There was no Tikka seasoning in it which made the fries bland. Chilli Paneer Bhaat Bowl: The paneer in Chilli Paneer was hard and chewy. But the fried rice was good. VEG MOMOS We had specifically ordered VEG MOMOS because we are vegetarians. The lady in the restaurant brought Momos and when we tasted it,it tasted unusual. We were in doubt because Veg momos didn't have any vegetables and there was something chewy stuffing in it. So when we asked the hotel staff(lady) she told casually that it was Chicken Momo. We had specifically ordered VEG MOMOS and the staff gave Chicken Momos. They were not even sorry about it. She asked if she could get another order but we had already lost interest to eat there so we asked for bill. We couldn't eat fries nor Chilli Paneer Bhaat Bowl nor the Momos. But the staff billed 21.95$ and told that she had billed for Bhaat Bowl n fries and gave 10% discount. This was like rip off because it was their mistake to mess up the order, spoil our dinner and then also charge for what we couldn't eat. So guys if you have dietary restriction then either double check what is served or avoid this place. We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was pathetic experience for us..
