Great service, good food, smells amazing. They have a taconomics happy hour on weekdays. It's amazing. Dollar tacos and aqua fresca. The meats are tender and really flavorful. I'll admit their spicy is fresh jalepenos. Which is too intense for me.

Pancho Villa is an awesome taqueria. We love their burritos, portion sizes are great and it's full value for money. We have tried the deluxe spicy chicken burrito, chicken quesadilla and the super vegetarian burrito. The garlic mushroom is a good addition to the veg. burrito. The salsa bar has some really amazing salsa. If you like it spicy, they have a couple of really nice ones that make the burrito taste even better. The chips left something to be desired. But overall, super delicious, perfect spice level, which can be adjusted per your needs.

On the way to SFO we stopped by this place and no regrets. The tacos were absolutely amazing. We tried beef, chicken, salmon and veggie tacos, all tasted very delicious (we loved beef more though). If you check this place make sure to try the pickle/sauce bar as well.

My friend and I had the pleasure of dining at this taqueria on a Saturday evening. The interior design of the taqueria reminded me of the other Pancho Villa Taqueria in the Mission, but with a cleaner and brighter atmosphere. A simple, unpretentious place with large portions and reasonable prices. Their guac and salsas are amazing! We tried the veggie and prawn tacos and both are quite good. Two thumbs up for service. Only one feedback- the veggie tacos had a lot of zucchini and yellow squash, wish they had bell peppers and mushrooms instead.

I've been eating here for more than 20 years food is just as good as the first time. I even drive over 30 miles every now and then, because it's my favorite Mexican restaurant. Prices are so reasonable for the high quality and quantity of the food. Wish they would open one down in the San Jose area if they did I'd be there every week. Can get busy but the line moves quickly. Parking can be a hassle being a popular downtown area. If you are in the area I would highly recommend trying them out.

There's a reason this place gets so packed, especially on weekends! You can order online but I didn't (tech incompetence) and even though I ordered at the restaurant, the wait was only like 15 minutes. Totally worth it! We had chille rellenos, enchiladas, burritos, tacos, all was delicious! Also love the agua fesca.

Yummy Mexican restaurant located in the heart of downtown San Mateo. Bright and airy interior, you can watch your protein being freshly grilled in front of you, and there’s a lot of veggie and condiments to choose from for tacos, burritos, and rice platters. Efficient service. Tables are small and low to the ground, though. Parking can be hard to find, although there are several paid parking lots within a 5-minute walk.

What’s not to love about this glorious little slice of heaven? The food is so good I’ve seriously considered proposing to the chef — or at least writing them a very emotional thank-you card. The place has that perfect mix of cozy and chaotic, like your favorite cousin’s dinner party where everyone’s having a great time and someone’s always laughing too loud (usually me). I go there for the fish tacos every. single. time. I tell myself I’ll try something new, but then the tacos show up and I remember who I am as a person. The horchata? Let’s just say if happiness had a flavor, this would be it — creamy, nostalgic, and slightly addictive. I like to sit by the window, pretending I’m mysterious and worldly while watching the yoga folks next door glide by looking all serene and stretchy. One day, I might actually join a class… but let’s be honest, I’d probably just show up afterward for more fish tacos!

We ordered tacos and they were very good and I know I’m always wondering if it’s not a street taco is it gonna be worth the money because tacos usually range anywhere from 4 to 6 dollars each these were very large and had a lot of meat in them my son ate all of his taco and it filled him up and he’s 10 years old. The meat can be a little salty on its own but with everything else it's a perfect symphony! The employees are really wonderful and so efficient! You can see them preparing everything so it's very reassuring to me that everything is being made correctly. The new salsa cart is also fantastic! Did I mention they have a made at order juice bar? Super refreshing! The chairs could be better but that's not the employees fault. Plus It is easy to forget about them when the food is so great :)

If you grew up in San Mateo, you know this place is a local institution! Great mexican food, fast service, and a nice atmosphere. I usually get a burrito or tacos or a quesadilla, all fantastic. Today I tried the torta ahogada. It was good but I will be asking for mediano next time for the salsa haha. The picante was a bit toooo picante for my taste!

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the US! I recommend the burrito mojado style. Great vibes and delicious food! Good vegetarian options too. When I used to come here years ago they had a really good salsa bar. Not sure if they removed that or just wasn’t here this time.

We came here for a quick lunch. This restaurant has always been so busy. Now, we finally paid a visit. They have large food selection and an extensive menu for both food and drinks. Service was quick. At first, I thought it was a self serve restaurant. You order and get the food at the counter. However, they actually brought the food to our table. The food was tasty. We only ordered 2 shrimp tacos and 1 plain rice with chicken. Chicken was salted enough to go well with the rice, but the rice was good on its own even if being eaten alone.

Solid place! We always get the family meal with the Pollo asada and then some of the orange volcano sauce and a large bag of chips. Usually costs about $60-$70 but that's because I always add on extra like the Chile rellenos or quesadillas for the kids. Double check your bag though, I feel my orders often are missing an item

The food is delicious and fresh! They definitely need to replace their small and uncomfortable stools that are used as seats (no backs) that have been there for at least 20 years. It would be much more enjoyable also if they could chop their meats in the back or find a quieter way to do it. We were there for 40 minutes and the pounding on the large cutting board when the staff are chopping the meats was very loud. It was virtually non-stop. I ate as quickly as I could and still left with a headache!

I've recently revisited this joint, introducing my son to different kinds of Mexican food than just taco from Taco Bell. It was a hit!! 😄 Portions are good. Lines are long especially on the Sunday's that we go. You order your food first then grab yourself a table. There's a small kiosk of different sauces and sides that you may like. I'm still trying to see if I can try most of their menu, but I'm still partial to the super burrito!😉 (I'll try to take a pic of my food next time, i just can't seem to stop myself from eating right away as soon as they deliver my food.) Service though is not as friendly. Sometimes I attribute it to the long lines that they have.

I've been coming here for years. Usually order the 3 taco deal with Carne Asada and refried beans along with an Agua Fresca. The salsa is very tasty here. The baby burrito is another favorite of mine. Make sure to order the refried beans as they do a good job here. The beans aren't like paste and slimy like other taqueria beans. Disappointed that they got rid of the serve yourself pico de gallo salsa bar. Overtime, I feel like the portion sizes have been decreasing, however, the quality of the food has remained consistent. Downgraded to 4 stars as what made this place wonderful many years ago doesn't apply today.

Oh my G! This place is great! Quality food for a fair price. I mainly go twice a month for the fish tacos. The lines are long at peak hours but well worth the wait. Business is booming and the location has heavy traffic; diverse crowd. It has a Mexican vibe, meaning your here for the food an not the leather wooden back breaker chair with large paintings on the wall. And like anything in this SF Bay area, the price is creeping up.

The carne asada dinner plate, and the chicken taco were delicious! The navhosnwith cheese were terrible. They brought out nachos pasted together by dried out hard cheese and when we inquired about it, the lady told us that they put the mozzarella shredded cheese on the nachos in the microwave... they brought out a second "fresh" order (this one still warm) but for a plate that's $5 it's not worth it...everything else was delicious! Best smoothie of my sons life. He had the number 1 that has bananas, strawberries, lime, OJ, and yogurt. Husband had chicken tacos, son had shrimp and steak burrito, I had cheese enchiladas and sister had chile relleno (pictured). No lard in the whole pinto beans so vegetarians can have them and they offer black beans as well. They mixed up part of our order so we got extra food and we weren't the only ones, at first it was annoying but then became charming after seeing the lady walking around with plates of food calling out numbers and names of food. They need better organization with bringing out the food, not all of our food came out at once but we ate the extra food that we didn't order while some of us waited for the food we did order. When we are back in town, we'll be coming back for more. The kitchen is open and you can watch them preparing the food and they all wear gloves. Husband's review: he's a meat eater and was impressed with the amount of chicken in his tacos as well as shrimp and steak in my sons burrito. They were impressed with the mounds of beef they saw being chopped and chicken being grilled. They have a Huge menu and my husband had visions of going there everyday for 2 weeks without repeating a dish.

This is my all time favorite Mexican place. The staff here is super friendly and fast. Their zesty volcano orange sauce is the best. I also like their fresh juices and drinks. This place uses all pure ingredients and doesn’t add any MSG. The portion sizes are also huge here. I would like to give it 4.5 stars but unfortunately can’t award a half star. Cutting down one star for the seating arrangements the seats are little uncomfortable.

Walked in for the first time and it really wasn’t clear to me where I should order, so that was probably the hardest I’ve had to work to or tacos, but boy were they juicy. Ask for hotter salsa than normal to balance out the richness of the meat. Super clean place, roomy, even has a juice bar.

There were a few pieces of gristle in my chicken but other than that, the staff were super helpful. I wanted to help clean up after us but it didn't seem like there was an obvious garbage can anywhere near by and I felt bad as when we were leaving it was pretty busy with most tables occupied in one way or another.

Got the beef fajitas and they were less than fresh. The vegetables were soggy and mushy not like fajita vegetables rice and beans were really good.

The food is solid and we go there regularly but be prepared to wait for 40 mins for your food. They are working a lot of doordash and uber orders all the time. Walking in is generally not advised. Order online 40 mins before you actually want to eat.

Food here is amazing but they need to stop taking online orders when it's busy. This place turns into complete chaos during peak hours, 10-15 Door Dash and Uber eats drivers are trying to get the orders, walk in customers trying to order something but every employee is too busy. Last time I waited for 20 minutes just to place order, never happened, I went to another place few blocks down the street. Prior to that I waited for 45 minutes for my food and my order was wrong. Food here is great, but they are too overwhelmed with online orders.Complete mess. The San Mateo location of the Bay Area chain is okay given the price of the food. The meat is usually overcooked, which I guess is better than undercooked... Lengua was in big overcooked chunks drowning in sauce that made a mess of my tacos. The chicken was grilled, but then cut up on a dirty wooden butcher block with lots of bits of grilled beef from the last use. Guac was very pale green, freshly made but tasteless. Staff are efficient and friendly.

Generous portion size, good taste, very slow service. I ordered four tacos for about $20. Their size was on the bigger taco side I've tried. The flavor was good; I especially enjoy their carne asada taco due to generous seasoning, and slight crunchiness. Their service was below average. Even though the staffs appeared smiling, I didn't feel welcome since they didn't explain anything to me plus they were talking among themselves while I was trying to order. Furthermore the food took about 30 minutes to arrive (I ordered at 6pm on a Monday). I don't know whether I want to come here again or not.

Pretty cool place. I liked both ordering since it seemed pretty fast and efficient. I got a torta which tasted pretty good. The salsa provided really helped enhance the flavour as well. Unfortunately since they cut it I had to pick out some of the tin foil before eating; maybe I’ll get try the burrito next time. It was also nice and bright in there; pretty cool.

I made my order 20 minutes before picking it up. Got to the register. The guy completely ignored me when I asked to pay for my order. I had to wait 10 minutes for him to finish talking to his friend. I asked someone else to help me to get charged and to give me the food. He ignored me as well. Really bad customer service. It is not the first time the cashier has done this. I expected better customer service as the place was almost empty. But not at all.

Some people get chips for free others dont. Weird. The service takes so long because they take mobile orders so if you dont have time to burn keep in mind it took them 20 minutes to fill my one burrito order.

Good tacos but they keep screwing up online orders. Just recently, I bought a 4 taco and also a 3 taco special and they only gave me 3 and 3. They also used the wrong beans for my girlfriend's order, they were supposed to be black beans not pinto beans. The gentleman that usually is running the register has a poor attitude toward black people. ORDER & PRAY! If you’re ordering via Uber Eats or DoorDash, BEWARE! Chances of your order being correct are close to zero% (0%). The food from Pancho Villa is fabulous! If you’re there eating in-house, no problem as long as you don’t mind a wait. If you’re ordering via a delivery service, PROBLEM!! There’s no QA of orders, chips (including extra chips), sauces and other order specifics. You’ll always have an issue. We have had an issue ranging from small to large on almost every delivery order we’ve ever placed. Skip this place and order at any local taco truck unless you plan on going in person.

Ordered a few times from here and both times had to wait so long for my order. First time it was 1+ hours and second time 30+ minutes while they served everyone ahead of me. I also ordered a mild burrito and they gave me the spiciest jalapeno filled salsa that my mouth was on fire and gave me heartburn. Their only saving grace is the meat they put in their tacos. But the burritos aren't that good because the rice is too dry and salsa is all jalapenos

Came here for one taco with my son. It took forever for them to take my order and the man at the register was extremely rude. Food is mediocre. I will never come back.

I wish I could give them a better rating, but I had a horrible experience today. I went in during my lunch break and it took at least 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me waiting to place my order, and then another 20 to make my 4 tacos and hand me a churro (which I was never given)! After waiting I got my food in a to go bad, and mistakenly didn’t check before rushing back to work. My churro was never given to me!!! I was ripped off! The food was good but wow I was disappointed, especially after waiting so long? The store itself also seemed not very well cleaned up… it is not cheap and I will not be going back :(

BUYER BEWARE. We've been getting takeout from Pancho Villa for 5 years and then on the 3rd of this month we suddenly get billed twice for a single transaction; I find both payments on our visa card a few days later. My husband goes in and says there was a mistake and the guy he talks to says he can't fix it and that hubby should come back when the manager is there. He goes in a couple days later to talk to a woman who says she is the manager. He explains what happened and he shows her the printout with the 2 transactions on the same day. She says she'll take care of it. Well, it's the 15th now and there's no credit on our card. Take your business elsewhere if you use credit cards or phone pay, because even if you do keep an eye on your billing and give them a chance to fix it- they definitely won't. I'll be sure and take this down if it's ever fixed, but I'm not holding my breath. They just lost long-term customers. We'll take our business elsewhere, and so should you (unless you use cash).

First time we ate at this restaurant and we just wasted our $50 for our meals, we couldn’t eat the food. Their food is extremely salty, we order super nachos carnitas and super shrimp burritos. I was so excited to eat it but after a couple of bites of burritos I couldn’t eat it at all and also the carnitas nachos. It’s probably good but they made everything extremely salty it’s impossible to eat it.

Terrible. I was looking forward to some yummy enchiladas but got a dry, sauceless mess. The 'salad' on the plate was not fresh and there was a fly.. the churro was stale and the whole experience was just.. terrible.

Had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, it fell short. First off, the guys who work at the counter are super stingy and cheap. When I asked nicely for extra salsa they said that’s all I get. What is salsa like 50 cents? Their sister restaurant in San Francisco has free all you can get salsa bar but not this location in San Mateo. The service was incredibly slow. It took nearly 30 minutes just to get two tacos, and the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. When the food finally arrived, the tacos were cold, and the tortillas were soggy. The meat was undercooked and lacked seasoning. I again asked for extra salsa, and they gave me the tiniest spoonful, which didn’t help much anyway since the good was watery and bland. Overall, this location of Pancho villa was a huge letdown. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for authentic or even decent Mexican food.

Messed up my order. I paid extra for super tacos and they gave me regular. Make sure to check if your order is right when you get to go. Also cashier is super rude. I was ready to pay but he was talking to his friend and after 5 minutes he stuck his hand out to take my receipt, didn’t even acknowledge me or say anything.

Service is horrible! It's slow, they seem to be prioritizing online orders over in person orders. T cashier is rude. We spent about $75 on the food here but they are really stingy with the salsa. They used to have a self serve salsa stand that they got rid off and the only way to get salsa is to request the rude cashier. We were 5 people eating and we got 1 container of the orange and 3 containers of green salsa! This place used to be good but not anymore. Time to find a New Mexican fave place.

Rude staff. Poor customer service and a ridiculous wait. Everyone got their orders before mines and I only ordered 2 burritos. Food is decent but not worth the rudeness.

Foods are good. Portion is big too. I want to like this place, however, the cashier, always the same guy standing near the till, is rude to everyone, like a child never learn manner and respect

I used to come here weekly to order combo meals. Recently the price hike was simply exorbitant. There really was no communication on the price increase. I totally understand they have to rise price due to inflation, but no communication for a 30%+ change? Staffs are generally super friendly, but the owner always puts on a snarky attitude which honestly is not very pleasant. Food is decent, good salsa, but not worth $30 bucks for one combo meal. Honestly overrated.

Seriously don’t come here. I ordered a 6oz chips and they gave me one 1oz bag of chips. And the cashier had the nerve to tell me the 1oz bag was a 6oz bag and that I was wrong. I went home and put the chips on the scale… 1.3oz does not equal 6oz. This isn’t the first time this happened. They always mess up orders. And you can never get in touch with someone to make things right. Avoid.

Very, very, poor service its an hour we waited for our order and still not here. They are prioritizing the online orders rather than us who are here waiting. I asked the cashier and was just being told that's it's busy and we could see in our seats that the workers were grabbing the orders online. Never come back here you will pass out of hunger.

They raised their prices!!! so now its $8-$10.00!!! more per plate and $4-$6!!! more per other items. (I will be making cooking at home great again) It was good while it lasted. Adios Pancho Villa!!!

I want to start by saying the woman who took our order was truly great. She was kind, patient, and actually paid attention to us. I really appreciated her attitude. But the rest of the experience honestly wasn’t good. The two guys by the register and drinks seemed way more focused on talking to each other than helping customers. We were standing right there, and it felt awkward like we were interrupting their conversation just by asking questions. When I asked what flavors of agua frescas they had, he listed four and then just said “and many more” before turning back to keep talking. That didn’t feel helpful at all. It felt like he just didn’t want to be bothered. I also ordered chips and guacamole. He nodded, but kept talking, and nothing happened. We had to ask three times before we finally got it. I understand everyone has conversations at work, but customers shouldn’t feel ignored. It just made the whole visit feel uncomfortable and frustrating.

Just horrible. Their quality control and standards have went down so much over the years. Mostly because of the fact that they have no competition in the surrounding area. If La taqueria from mission were to open a 2nd location anywhere south of SF pancho would be out of business in a heartbeat. The salsa is watery, the carne asada always too chewy and full of cartilage it’s like biting into rocks, their chicken pollo asado is good but that’s about it. Chips are too thin and they are stingy with their salsas. I had it yesterday and completed vomitted everything the morning after and still have stomach cramps all morning. Never going again.
