Opinions de House of Bagels San Rafael
Best bagels that I know of in Marin! People there are super nice and they have a fantastic selection of bagels. They also have a great selection of deli foods. Just love, love, love!
Really cute little bagelry.
With recent change of ownership the bagel quality has SOARED. Honestly these are the closest to NY bagels I have found on the West Coast.
This place delivers on taste!! Quality tasty bagels done right, plus tons a yummy classic sandwiches and breakfast dishes - hash browns, eggs, the works- something for everyone reasonably priced.
Omgosh matzah ball soup like grandma made, true N.Y. bagels I drive from Petaluma to by my bagels. Potato Knish too! This place was owned by a Jewish N.Y. couple for ever, when they sold to current owners 15 years ago they taught them all their recipes and they have not deviated one bit. A true Jewish deli.
A fixture here in San Rafael. I don't know if its the bagels or the authentic Jewish cuisine but our town wouldn't be the same without this little place.
Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. Good service. Will definitely eat here again!
Awesome Bagels! Toasted enough to melt the cream cheese, not chewy! Service is super!
Best place in Marin. Better than Noah bagel by 800%. Food always hot. I recommend here than noah begel.
Great food and these guys went way out of their way to make sure everything was right. They jumped into their car to bring me something the driver had forgotten, great customer service. We will patronize them a long time.
Best service ever!!!! We called in 10 minutes ahead and everything was ready even with a big lunch rush. 5 stars all the way around! Will be back.
Great little neighborhood breakfast & lunch place. Mostly regulars grabbing coffee and breakfast to go. I love the bagel dogs with mustard and a pickle. Friendly atmosphere. Service with a smile and quick, too. Right across from the train station.
The best bagels in Marin County, no holds barred! Service is great, always with a smile and they will make your bagel, sandwich or breakfast any which way you like! Getting addicted and loving it!
I’ve been coming here for many years and they are consistently my favorite bagel in San Rafael. The owner can be a little short with you sometimes but he’s a nice guy, just busy!
Excellent place for breakfast and coffee!! Very customer oriented and friendly!! Love this place!
Bagels are quite good for California. Service is good, fast and friendly. Always have received the proper change for a purchase in spite of what another reviewer has said. Most fun part of House of Bagels is that the 'everything' bagels are listed as being 'seedy'. So appropriate for seedy San Rafael. :)
I love this place! I live in Seattle but come to the Bay Area and Marin County quite often. I make a point to stop here for breakfast or lunch at least once during each visit. I usually bring someone with me and they love it too.
Breakfast burrito, coffee and cookie at a great price in San Rafael? It is possible!!!! Staff is amazing, food is delicious, everything is great! Good thing they have Mexican / American breakfast
Absolutely the best bagels in San Rafael and perhaps all of Marin county. Great homemade cream cheese and excellent fresh lox. Hard working family run business. The Ferrari of bagel shops in Marin. Best wishes for many years of continued success.

Just as good as I remembered it. The bacon breakfast burrito is a MEAL! Service was fast and friendly. People were knee deep but in a matter of 10 min the placed cleared out. You have to try everything!
Use To Live In San Rafael Went To House Of Bagels All The Time My Daughter Her Family We'd Meet Sunday's For Bagels The Asian Family That Owned It Became Our Family Asians And Jews. I Loved The Rubens Sandwich Too! Well To My Surprise Yesterday Dec 16th I Found Myself Back In San Rafael Not Knowing It Had Been Sold To A Hispanic Family But Everything Is Terrific The Son A Very Nice Fellow Put Up With My Sardonic Sense Of Humor. I Ordered 2 Rubens To Go Had One Last Night It Was Terrific Like Nothing Changed. So From Asian Jewish Cuisine To Hispanic Jewish Cuisine Hooray!!!
The best NYC type bagels anywhere in Marin County! Friendly owners and reasonable prices. Just be mindful of shortened hours as some days they close at 1pm. The bagels are made on the premises. Boiled before being baked. Try them... you will like them!
It's similar to New York style but not anything like a real New York Deli if you've ever been to New York. The bagels r so good and they have a large selection of breakfast items prepackaged and ready to go. The location is excellent. Its s right across the street from the Smart Train terminal. I really like that.
Backpacking, had 15 min to spare between buses. Gentlemen behind the counter noticed I was in hurry. Got my sesame/cream cheese bagel with ice coffee within 3 minutes. This bagel was so fresh it was warm. Highlight fo my day. I may comeback to San Rafael just for those bagels!
I get the bacon, egg, and cheese with avocado on a croissant and I swear it’s one of the best breakfasts of my life
First time stopping in, great menu, delicious food, and friendly people ❤️
Review: I recently had the pleasure of revisiting the House of Bagels in San Rafael and was thoroughly impressed by the transformation it has undergone under its new ownership. The place is now run by two young, passionate entrepreneurial brothers who have clearly poured their hearts and souls into reviving this local gem. From the moment I walked in, the improvements were noticeable. They've given the interior a fresh coat of paint, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. One of the most significant upgrades is to the coffee station. The brothers have ensured that all the coffee machines are in top working order, guaranteeing every cup of coffee served is piping hot and delicious. This commitment to quality extends to every corner of the establishment, including the refrigerators, which have been meticulously cleaned and organized, showcasing their dedication to providing the best for their customers. What sets this place apart, however, is the infectious positivity and smiles from the owners. It's evident they take pride in their new location and are eager to make every customer's experience memorable. Their hard work and dedication to revitalizing the House of Bagels have not gone unnoticed, and it's heartening to see such commitment in our community. If you've visited this spot in the past and left feeling less than satisfied, I strongly encourage you to give House of Bagels another chance. Supporting hard-working business owners like these brothers is not just about enjoying a great bagel and coffee; it's about fostering a sense of community and backing those who are genuinely invested in making a difference. Let's show our support for their incredible effort and make House of Bagels a staple in San Rafael once again.
There are plenty of places around that serve bagels. As a former New Yorker, I have my own opinion about bagel quality and whitefish spread. This funky place has been around for years, and for a good reason. The bagels actually have been made properly-boiled, then baked. They have just the right amount of tooth feel when you bite into them. The whitefish spread actually tastes like white fish and isn't over salted. This is one of those little local places off the beaten track that is really worth discovering.
I love house of bagels. The owner and his son are super cool. They were the only place in town that had easy grab and go gluten-free bagels. Unfortunately, the previous reviewer ruined it for all of us. They no longer carry gluten-free bagels because this person went AWOL contacted the city and the business said - you know what? This isn’t worth the hassle. Rightfully so. I’ve been gluten-free for over a decade. What I realize, a human among other humans, is that people make mistakes and that especially happens with gluten cross contamination. Anytime we go out and eat you run that risk. I’m really sad this person is bulldozing businesses because of that human error. How are they going to function elsewhere in the world? More importantly, I no longer have a place to get my gluten-free bagel. Thanks a lot. For everyone else, support this awesome business— enjoy your bagel.

Food and coffee great but the guy that took my order was super curt and tried to give me my total before I was even done ordering. Still worth going
Pretty solid breakfast place. Fast service, decently priced. I eat here--mainly breakfast or lunch--about twice a year. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but they're fast and adequate, with lower-end pricing.
A touch of NYC in San Rafael! Amazing bagels that are soft, chewy and delicious plus many spreads and other options. And they also have other deli cookies and a slightly aged poster that I remember from my childhood promoting Levi's rye bread So cool!
I stop in between my train and bus commutes in the morning for their egg and cheese bagel...because it's fresh, super delicious and convenient. The staff is friendly and while it's not the speediest service, it's always with a smile. I am greatful they are where they are.

Place was busy!!! I'm glad to have a second option for bagels in Marin. Sadly, most varieties were sold out when I arrived at 9am.
Somewhat tough, mediocre bagels, and very hit or miss. It can either be pretty good or pretty bad. Won't stop me from getting a bagel in between bus transfers from time to time.
The food is usually yummy, but my order has been wrong the last couple times I've gone in- may not seem like a big deal but it's a bummer to order sausage and get ham. I don't like ham.
Website doesn't have hours listed and Google says they close at 2... Walked up at 1240 and dude was putting away the chairs and said they close early. Who closes at 1240?! 3 stars cause maybe it was just one of those days... Idk
Enjoyed a delightful brunch experience at this spot! The food was fantastic, and the staff provided excellent service. To enhance customer service, consider more attentive staff training and faster response times. Overall, a great place for brunch with the potential for even better service!

The quality of the cream cheese in the bagel is not good although I believe if you like to have a good business u need a good communicators employees and good language with all the respect of all people who do not speek good english. They made a mistake for my fordee just because no good communication language.
I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and it wasn’t warm at all:( it used to be very good though, but now it changed.

Really bad service I ordered a bagel and p2 dish The guy he gave me to me the wrong order and then I bring it back and then he call P2 again and I say oh that’s my order and he was so mad he say all this way you confuse me The guy he gave me to me the wrong order and then I bring it back and then he call P2 again and I say oh that’s my order and he was so mad he say all this way you confuse me as not That’s why I said since this guy have the store that’s not the same he act like he can do anything he want with the customer, which is not right
No vegan options whatsoever. How inclusive of them. They have oatmilk at least if you want coffee.... Super lame and disappointing.
NOT COVID SAFE! if you check out their yelp reviews too there are more like this. It was my first and last time visiting this place today. I ordered a latte and egg/cheese bagel. Instead of announcing when either of my items were done they left it on the counter, where other customers grabbed my coffee and bagel on accident. The shop owner grabbed them from their hands and then handed it to me. I was in a rush so I didn’t want to ask for another one, but I was really surprised they are allowing that. The bagel itself was greasy and the scrambled egg didn’t taste very good.
I used to buy bagels here regularly. The last time I was there a customer brought their basket back after eating their food. The owner threw the paper away, brushed away crumbs with his bare hands and put the basket back in the pile for the next customer. In the midst of a pandemic, I opted to leave without breakfast. The place was never overly clean but this was too much for me.
After 25 years going there, today was the worst possible experience. Indifferent to almost hostile service with long delays. No tables wiped between people. Good place to pick up a virus. I won't go back. Bagels not fresh and they spray water on them as they put them in the toaster.
I came in to buy a breakfast burrito this morning. As I’m entering, I trip on an awkward step that’s inside right as you enter. NO ONE asks me if I’m ok.. I get laughed at by the employees and then I get yelled at buy the cashier with a very aggressive voice for not reading the sign on the door that says watch your step.. It’s 6:40am. The sign is very low on the door with a bunch of other signs. So no, I did not read it obviously.. accidents happen.. I can laugh at myself also.. but to not get asked if I am ok.. that is mind boggling. I will not be going back.
My boyfriend went to this place to get us bagels, ordered two everything bagels with scallion cream cheese and an asiago bagel no cream cheese, with a SMALL coffee. they charged him for a large coffee, but gave him a small. the cream cheese had no scallion cream cheese at all. AND the bagels were burnt!? He had also said they were just rude to him, not very talkative, lacked customer service, made him feel like he was bothering them for being at their place of business GIVING them business. make it make sense. Parking lot blows.
I went on DoorDash to order a bagel today. I selected a gluten free seedy bagel which is an option. A few weeks ago this same thing happened, and I have a severe gluten allergy and got extremely sick for a week. I noticed the bagel smelled like wheat and there was no way it was gluten free. I thought I'd give them a second chance but received the same bagel as last time today. I called the store and asked what brand of gluten free bagels they use to double check and was told "they're out of gluten free so they gave me a regular one". This is completely UNACCEPTABLE. I was not told this before I got my order, no call or any notification. I told the guy on the phone I have a severe allergy and that's not ok. I simply would've taken a refund and ordered something from somewhere else but there was zero communication. Thank god I noticed the bagel didn't look gluten free and it was also suspicious that it wasn't seedy and just a plain bagel and I called to check. The guy on the phone was extremely rude and told me this wasn't his problem and he didn't care after I told him I have an allergy and they can't just be giving people who order a gluten free bagel a regular one. House of Bagels: DO BETTER. Giving someone who has a gluten allergy a regular wheat bagel without notifying them is a BIG DEAL and not ok. I cannot believe I was treated the way I was on the phone. I will never order from here again. Anyone who has an allergy, beware of this place. I am absolutely horrified.
been coming here for a very long time. and it's gone downhill fast. ever since the new twin bros took over the bagels have gotten worse, my order is always wrong and the place has turned into a community center for the cleaning lady community. it's gross and I'll be finding a new breakfast place sadly.
Went to get lunch at 1:15 and the guy said they were closed despite the hours noting they’re open until 2.
