Opinions de Double Rainbow Cafe San Rafael
I have come here many times since they moved to be with Artistry Studios. The ice cream tasted great. I always get coffee ice cream there. And now they serve Red Whale coffee, specialty toasts and some pastries. Staffs are also very nice.
Delightful! Stopped for ice cream and fell in love with art for sale. Beyond friendly and beautiful inside.
In quaint downtown San Rafael, CA, Double Rainbow Ice Cream is wonderful - absolutely wonderful. The ice cream tasted great, there was a wide selection, specialty items were made exactly as requested, the atmosphere was filled with cheery teens, Millennials, upbeat seniors, and a couple of chatty adults like myself, all served by a host of wonderful staffers. As other ice cream aficionados gobbled away, I took it all in. Not bad fo $3.50 per scoop, or $6.00 for a sundae, especially in today's trendy ice cream market place, where I spent $11 on a scoop of ice cream in the City. I would recommend Double Rainbow for product, service, style, and simple joy!
Great ice cream, great service, wacky atmosphere with space ships and daily trivia with prizes. I like the lychee ice cream. The sugar cones are actually tasty-not like boxed sugar cones. They have Mug rootbeer in the soda fountain, but they make the rootbeer freezes with a generic brand that is not as good. Next time I'll ask for them to use Mug. Outdoor seating is available.
Tried two flavors of their ice cream: mango tangerine and lychee nut. It was yummy! Definitely will go back to try out other flavors. The cafe is right at San Rafael downtown and it is a perfect place to hangout
Cute mom and pop feeling kinda of shop. They give taste samples. Had 5 different vegan options. Lots of spots to sit. Not a ton of variety in the flavors themselves though.
A San Rafael favorite place for ice cream, sandwiches, pastries, and etc. Retro 50's feel, and a casual place to bring the kids to have a treat and to visit with friends and family. Friendly service.
This place has really good ice cream and they put extra whipped cream on my ice cream cone so that was pretty awesome. They even let me bring my dog in and the whole problem with that was the dog ate a lot of my whipped cream that I obviously wanted. then the girl working there said she wanted to pet my dog but she couldn't get her hands dirty and she said she would totally come out later and pet the dog but she never did. That's what hurt my dog's feelings: 1. it is not a very dirty dog and would probably not get her hands that dirty. 2. she kind of left her high and dry as far as petting was concerned. So yeah. My dog enjoyed the whipped cream but probably has hurt feelings. Wouldn't you?

Very friendly barista and delicious latte. Lots of cute things to purchase; too bad the little jewelry and craft shop is closed on Sundays!
Great place for vegan icecream, vegan pastries, and other plant based goods. Shares space with an art studio/makers market. Supports those with autism.
Best vegan ice cream I’ve ever had. They had two vegan options on the day I went, and both were so yummy.
Like me, many Marinites have gone to Double Rainbow on 4th St for years including w/our kids. It has now moved a few doors to the east and shares space with Autistry Studios. To me the new location is a bit cozier and more comfortable to hang out w/a good espresso drink, shake, or their superior ice cream. Nearby coffee spots do have good coffee but aren't that comfortable to hang out especially for a business mtg (IMO). I have spent time at Autistry/2x Rainbow for this purpose and enjoyed myself. I'm going there again, today w/a former colleague. Best Affogato in Marin (look it up).
Walked down after getting Thai food for dinner. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. Loved all of the items for sale. That portion was closed off due to it being late I guess but awesome to still see while enjoying ice cream.
Now that is ice cream, plenty of butter fat. Three different types of cones to choose from, and a small is plenty. Can use a debit card, too. That place in Fairfax doesn't come close.

Amazing ice cream and employees - would come again!

Good ice cream and nice staff but the place could use a refreshing, or at least a cleaning, geez.

The staff were really friendly. There are two non-dairy flavors and the one I had was decent. I should have called first because I thought they were soy based looking at the photos and when I arrived one of them was oat based (I’m allergic to oats). Also, sorbet is NOT ice cream. Please do not list it as non-dairy ice cream.

I visited the shop last night with a friend. The ice cream flavors were delightful as usual, but we both got food poisoning! The person who scooped our ice cream was nice and courteous, but the person in charge of last night’s shift was rude. All orders were only to-go due a private event, which was fine, but some signage on the door would have been helpful.
Went late for a matcha and chai, they were really watery and lacked flavor. I love the environment and what the place stands for. Just not for their matcha or chai, will have to try the ice cream for a better review.

As a pregnant woman with a very specific craving, I made the noble 20-minute pilgrimage for a scoop of sweet satisfaction. I arrived at 9 PM on 7/2 to find the shop open but eerily empty — no staff in sight. After five minutes of awkwardly loitering like a lost cone, someone finally appeared and greeted me with, “Well, can I get you anything?” Not exactly the warm, “Oh! Sorry to keep you waiting,” I had in mind. Still, I was willing to let it go... if the ice cream blew me away. Spoiler alert: it did not. I ordered a single scoop in a waffle cone, only to discover halfway through that I was gnawing on a paper sleeve left inside the cone. That's right — my crunchy treat came with a bonus layer of disappointment. I couldn’t even enjoy the cone properly, and by the time I got home, my ice cream had turned into a sad, soupy mess. Pregnancy cravings are no joke, and this little adventure left me more bummed than blissed. Here's hoping it was just an off night — but next time, I'll stick closer to home (or bring a spoon for the car ride). 🍦🥲

Last time I came here was about 20 years ago when I was a teen & I believe it was smaller back then. Anyways I came here with my nuclear family but for some reason I felt servers were hesitant or had their guards up,not really welcoming. I knew it was a woke friendly business but for them to make me feel like our presence wasn't welcomed made me irritated. The ice cream was actually good all the ones we ordered but because of our experience,I wouldn't come back here. And to add on top of that, there was also a customer that was extremely rude to us. SHE JUST GOT THERE. I held the door for my husband as he was carrying our baby in a carseat & she just cut in front of him. I yelled at her "YOU'RE WELCOME RUDENESS!" I grew up here but the vibes have really changed. Are traditional hetero families not welcomed here because of what you stand for?

I did not like this experience. The atmosphere was dingy and tired . When I got my ice cream I ate a little bit of it but then after a few more licks I found a hair that wasn’t mine. My parents said to keep eating it, so I did. Then, I was halfway done and I found the same color hair in my ice cream again. It’s disgusting it gives me creeps even thinking about it. We told the employee and her response was “I’m bald, so can’t be me”. She offered me another cone but I was disgusted by that time. She didn’t even offer us a refund or say sorry.
