I love that Taj of Marin labels their dishes as to what is gluten-free and vegan. They may not serve organic but I'm confident they'll maybe begin to shift as that demand is growing and prices are competive.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Taj for their lunch buffet. The buffet included chai tea and hot, fresh buttery naan bread. But in addition, we also received a cheese filled, gluten-free dosa! Buffets allows you to try many items, pace your meal as you like while socializing but many have disappeared since the pandemic, so the Taj is a good place to go with a group of friends. A public parking structure is also available right behind the restaurant.

I was there picking up somebody's food during a wedding for somebody and they were quite busy. One of the guys that work there was real nice by offering me some dessert while I waited for the order, and it was really good ,something I had never tried before.

Came here for lunch on a Friday. $10.95 adult buffet, 6.95 for kids. They have gluten free naan, and most of the buffet items were also GF. The food is delicious, both adults and kids loved it. The vegan Palak with mixed vegetables was divine.

We used to patronize the Lotus and still like the waiters and ambiance, however the food for lunch buffets is much more interesting at the Taj. I particularly like that both Northern and Southern Indian cuisine is represented and that vegetarian dishes are grouped together and the meat dishes are as well. I am a vegetarian, but do eat fish and the fish pagoras on Friday are outstanding. The service is good, with friendly waitstaff. The fixed price for the sumptuous buffet at lunch is reasonable and competitive.

Great buffet featuring a variety of food. Tends to be a little spicier than the Indian buffets in town. Service is friendly but can be a little slow to refill waters, which can be an issue due to previously mentioned spicy food. Overall I would recommend!

First time customer but we will return! Downtown San Rafael has no shortage of Indian restaurants; after eating a delicious takeout meal, I'm glad we chose Taj of Marin. All dishes were portioned generously and spiced just right for our palates: mango chicken, Bhaji masala, veg samosa, and biriyani rice with chicken. Portions were generous and rice dish had large pieces of moist chicken. Customer service is excellent over the phone and in person.

This is the best tasting Indian Restuarant in Marin, hands down. It's a buffet at lunch also. I don't know how they make the fish it does.....delicious. I eat there at least once a week.

Excellent service and amazing food! I have been here several times for lunch buffet and I am fond of the wide varieties they offer here. I would like to call out for the owner for his generosity. I visited here in the evening this week and ordered a Rogen Josh with extra spicy flavor & Onion Naan (my Indian testbuds wanna go on adventure ride sometimes :-D). The food was superb as usual. As I was wrapping up the leftover food in To-go box after the dinner, the owner offered me to add extra Tikka curry and the rice, literally free of cost. I was simply touched for his kind gesture. I definitely recommend this restaurant for this fine quality of service and food.

Came here for dinner with my parents and the food was delicious. We had Aloo Tikki as an Appetizer. The Garlic Naan and Tandoori Roti went well with the Navratan Korma and Malai Kofta. The veg biriyani was tasty and didn't feel really heavy. The raita though was a tad sour. The freshness of the gulab human was conveyed by how savory it tasted. Service was good too. 4.9/5

We knew we wanted Indian food and needed someplace open a bit later than other nearby places. Turns out it was an awesome find. We loved both of our dishes - Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma - generous portions, tender meat, superb flavor (be sure to order rice). The paratha appears to be homemade and was tasty also. And the people running the place are friendly and helpful. We will make it a point to come here next time we're in town.

If you are visiting Mill Valley or Sausilito and hungry for some Indian food, I highly recommend Taj at Marins. After having a very bad experience with Star of India in SFO area, I was really very skeptical about visiting any Indian restaurants in Bay Area. After a very nice scenic visit to Sausilito we wanted to have Indian cuisine and I choose this one based on reviews. I called them and come to know that they have lunch buffet till 2:30 PM. I went there along with my two kids aged 12 and 5 and and I inquired for how many people I have to pay. Baljinder ( Owner's Son) told me that we only pay for 3 people as they don't charge for kids, Which was unusual as all Indian restaurant charge even for Kids, I was highly impressed with his politeness. We started with the buffet and believe me Chicken Tikka Masala was awesome also the Lamb Curry. My kids also enjoyed the Chicken Tandoori as it was not spicy for them. Even Veg items were delicious.. I would say we were satisfied at the end of lunch... I was even offered by Baljinder that the lunch is on the house, Which I refused and I offered to pay at least some part of it. I hope they will maintain the same food quality and whenever I will there next time I will surely visit them for sure.

Taj of Marin is some of the best and most authentic Indian food I've ever had outside of India. For just $11 you can eat as much food as you want. It may be my favorite restaurant of all time.

The staff is super inviting and helpful the food was very fresh and seasoned to perfection I have had a lot of different styles of Indian food and this is one of my new favorite spots welcoming fun and happy people are always the best to be around check them out when you can.

Best Indian buffet in town. The spices and selection are not just the typical Indian fare. The vegetable and meat dishes were delicious and fresh. They have free coffee AND chai. (Check out the photos!) The samosas were good but could be crunchier and include potato/pea filling. I should also mention the staff were wonderful, checking on us regularly. We loved the 90s Indian music, too; the volume was just right. The buffet menu changes regularly so (although we were satisfied and happy) we will check back for days they also have fish. We give this place an A and will come back weekly.

Taj of Marin is a hidden gem in San Rafael! If you like Indian food, a cozy atmosphere, and amazing service, this is the place for you! Each time I’ve eaten here, I’ve had a great experience. Nala, the owner, welcomes all her customers as though they are family. It’s affordable, family friendly, and just built a beautiful deck out front for customers to enjoy socially-distances dining (and will be great for summer). If you haven’t checked this place out, it is worth it, and then worth coming back to again and again.

This place has a great lunch and dinner buffet with multiple vegan options. Everything is clearly labeled if it is vegan or not and that makes me so happy. It usually safe to assume most Indian food is vegetarian but rarely ever is it safely vegan. This was a nice find we stumbled upon during our first visit to San Rafael. We cross the bridge from San Francisco on occasion to come here because the atmosphere, staff and food does not compare. The staff is very nice here, very polite, and attentive. On some nights they have live sitar playing and it's beautiful. The food is so yummy, everything tastes so good!

Absolutely loved this place. Food was excellent, service was fast and friendly. I was getting take out and they told me how long it would take and they were right on the money. It was packed great for driving home with and when Ingot home, 10 minutes later, it was still hot and all of what I ordered was there. One thing......if you like spice, order it hot because medium really didn't have any kick at all. But that's no fault of the restaurant, that was my choice.

Love their food, discovered it after a beach trip and I will be returning here everytime I am in the area. You cannot go wrong with the food and service. I ordered some lunch for pick up. I got the butter chicken (mild) with garlic naan and a mango lassi. It was really good. It did have a little spice to it which I liked. It was one of the best butter chicken dishes I've ever had. Very flavorful and full of spices. I could tell they really took their time preparing the food. Aside from that, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were really nice and welcoming. It's a shame I ordered takeout. I plan to come back and dine-in with my family.

We’ve tried many of the local places. We usually go to another well ranked restaurant a few blocks away but now think that Taj is the tastiest. It has a good amount of meat in the dishes. The garlic naan is also our favorite here. It’s now become our local go to.

It beaks my heart to write this but it needs to be said. Taj has been a major part of the soul of Marin County and San Rafael. When I walked in today for dinner, there wasn’t a single human being at the tables. Their food is phenomenal, their service is tremendous, their servers are very kind. They deserve better from us Marinites. I’d love to see the entirety of the restaurant with filled seating, bustlling with business and commotion. I visited this restaurant for the first time recently and will definitely be coming back! I went for lunch and was lucky enough to try the buffet. The selection was impressive - there was such a wide variety of dishes, and everything I tried was absolutely delicious. I was especially impressed with how well they accommodated my friend who has celiac disease. They even made her a special gluten-free bread/naan, which was such a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere inside is beautiful - the décor is stylish and high-quality, and the chairs themselves are gorgeous. The service was excellent as well: the staff were attentive, helpful, and genuinely friendly. If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend checking this place out. You won’t be disappointed!

I've been to this location several times, even when it was an Indian restaurant under a different name with different owners. The flavors and heat level are dialed down to please a larger audience, but less so than some other nearby joints. Indian food is supposed to be spicy with some heat. This is an all-you-can-eat buffet with a good selection of the most popular North & South Indian dishes. With buffet restaurants, it's important that they keep the stations full and neat, which they do well here. It is family-friendly and kids will love helping themselves to foods with exciting flavors and spices. And who doesn't like eating moist, well seasoned tandoori chicken off the bone?! TIP: there's a back entrance with plenty of metered parking, free on Sundays and evenings.

Good Indian food, but go during the lunch buffet for the best value. The delivery is not really worth it, as you apparently have to ask for rice, they don't give it to you automatically. So you'll have to slurp your curry like a soup and hope you remember to order a side of rice next time.

Its an Indian buffet. I always get two plates of food, a vegetable plate and a meat plate. At this point in my life it's too much. Most of the vegetable dishes are vegan and well prepared. Some of the sauces have a nice bite. The meats include a lamb curry, which is quite tasty. Worth a lunch every few months, on a day when you only want to eat once!

Def impressed with the range of cuisine. Dal tadka and jeera rice hit the spot. Kadhai paneer was homely, not too spicy. Dosa was pretty solid. Paneer Tikka had great flavors although the paneer could be softer. Fried idli was okay. Spring roll was oily and probably had mashed potatoes filled in, not expected. Overall a solid meal though.

A great place for lunch and experiencing a widespread authentic Indian Buffet . The courteous wait staff are many and it doesn't take long to get your needs met . When my friend and I peeked in to smell the aroma ( which we did for the two blocks as we walked along 4th St. to decide where to eat ) the place looked full . We stopped in our tracks. It smelled delicious and I was ready to eat . I immediately met the eye of a staff person whose eyes directed me to a table for two along the wall. From there we went straight to the buffet table . All my favorites and more. Indian tastes are never boring .

Went for a dinner tonight and food was way below expectations. Potato in the Aloo samosa was definitely stale, plain naan had 2 pieces burnt and everything else was meh!!! Only plus was the ambience.

Came in 1hr before closing time of buffet. Food was a bit stale. North Indian food was ok. South indian food needs a lot of improvement. Dosa was a joke!

I used to love this place before the pandemic hit and then it was forced to shut down like all the small businesses were made too during the reign of tyranny or Psyops as I call it( pandemic). Unfortunately I was there for the first time since the plandemic ended a couple nights ago and the food was just not as good as I remembered it to be. This used to be one of my favorite Indian restaurants to go to in San Rafael however over the last few years it has taken a real turn for the worst. I was there in January and the food was good they don't have their all you can eat which is sad but their food was still good however I went there a couple of weeks ago and it was terrible. There were only a couple patrons in the restaurant and the servers were standing over us like they were our boss waiting for us to finish our meals so they could clean up and get us out. It's sad how our politicians are creating scarcity of products so that their political donors can profit the most but it has the most effect on small businesses and local communities. I'm not sure if this is the reason for their downturn but I know it's the downturn for a lot of small businesses

The food was alright but not good. Rice is $4 extra and does not come with any of the entree dishes. I've eaten at a couple dozen different Indian restaurants across 6 major cities in the US. All of them rice is included with the entree dishes, it's literally how those dishes are meant to be eaten. Place was also literally empty at 6 pm.

On Monday night the waiter was more interested in texting than serving the guests. Food was good... just not served in time... service was poor

Service needs a lot of work. Servers mean well but are not effective - it took too long for us to attract someone's attention to place an order, then only one beverage arrived and we had to ask twice before the second materialized. The samosa appetizer arrived promptly but without plates, which we eventually got up and went in search of ourselves. The menu is very vegan friendly but execution is just average. The baigan bartha was okay but lacked the charred eggplant flavor one finds in really great baigan bartha. My companion's chicken tikkah masala was just meh, and he left most of it uneaten. The roti was dry and flavorless. I cook a lot of Indian food and have eaten plenty over the years, and Taj of Marin is just average.

Tried buffet on a Sunday. The taste of Indian dishes have moved away from their authenticity n is very much customized of American taste. I didn't enjoy the food here just from an north Indian vegetarian foodie perspective. Tried lotus cuisine of India in the same vicinity. They are much better.

Ordered food from this place for delivery to try it out. They called to say it would be a little later than expected (90 minutes instead of the 60 minutes originally estimated). 3 hours later, when I called at close to 10 PM, they said they had no idea what order I was talking about, and that they're closed now, even though they had charged my credit card.

Rude women at front desk. Extremely slow service - 40 minute wait for food. Chicken tikka was more like soup, very thin consistency. No apologies for ridiculously long wait and bad attitudes.

even though there is an array of dishes both vegetarian and non veg...the taste is not authentic at all....great bang for your buck the buffets are and great variety but its not indian food..i am indian and this is a huge dissapointment.i understand not making it hot as not all people can eat hot,but why the dumbing down of spices and the layers of flavour? teach americans what indian food is..its not this bland fare..

Had barely any food at 1pm mostly bean plates. Very disappointed. New owners. Hardly any meat dishes I won't t go here any more. Lotus buffet down street far better. Sad use to come here Taj for yrs won't return.

Food was warm not hot. There was food on the floor underneath our table. We had empty water glasses which were never refilled. There were food stains on the table cloth. They had a TV going with scenes of assault weapons, knives, and a bloody man who looked to be dead. Thank goodness the videos were to the backs of our kids and they could not see them. To top it all of, we saw a Waiter picking his nose. We are never going back.

Terrible service. Will lie straight to your face several times in a row about your food being ready. When they forget to make your order they will say "We are packing it up right now." Twenty five minutes later they will still be saying the same thing. When they pretend to apologize for the 50 minute wait, they will say "We were a little bit busy". Hate to wonder how long they will lie to customers when they are more than "a little bit" busy. Previous Review: Good food....quiet restaurant. Not open late so, get hungry early. :)
