Opinions de Helena Avenue Bakery Santa Barbara
As a biscuits and gravy fiend, I am drawn to but naturally skeptical. Amazing. Great biscuit, nice spice on the gravy and a perfect sunny side egg. The cheese danish is top five I’ve ever had. And the ambiance is exactly what I needed to decompress with a coffee. Don’t miss this spot.
Wide variety and healthy selection for vegetarian diets and those that are not on one. Not only the bread and pastries are freshly baked the fruit and vegetables are just as great.
The breakfast taco is so good!!!! So is everything including the coffee and pastries, but my go-to is the breakfast taco with scrambled eggs
Love the vibe of this place and how many different things they offer on the menu. The hash browns literally come as a brick and they’re so perfectly seasoned. We shared the breakfast sandwich also and as someone who isn’t a big egg person I love the baked egg patty in there. Biscuits were delish too. Ambiance is so adorable and earthy.
Beautiful bakery with delicious breakfast & lunch options for all palates. I really liked their biscuits & preserve, breakfast sandwich, orange chocolate cruffin, & ricotta pear toast. The prices are tad in the higher side but the food quality is great. There’s a local wine store adjacent to it as well which adds to the charm. Definitely a fav brunch spot in SB!
We had a relaxing breakfast at Helena Avenue Bakery. The bakery space is a really neat industrial building with very tall ceilings and large doors that open to outdoor seating. The space is decorated nicely. The coffees, baked goods, and breakfast sandwich were all delicious. Neither of us were able to connect to the Acme guest WiFi network, but that was a relatively minor detail since we were just stopping in. I’d definitely recommend stopping by!
My wife and I were visiting Santa Barbara and if this tells you how we feel about this bakery: we came here 3 out of the 4 days! The coffee, pastries, and breakfast were fantastic. You definitely need to try the morning bun, the passion fruit poppyseed muffin, and the blueberry scone. I also got the maple sausage breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, which was very tasty. It had a nice, sweet flavor, and was huge! This place is big - it has both indoor and outdoor seating, and a whole wall full of different wines for tasting events I believe. Anyway, the decor and vibe was perfect, and I’d absolutely recommend coming here if you’re close enough!
As someone with autoimmune issues that impact my diet, I was utterly thrilled to hear the majority of their baked goods are made from sourdough discard which is my saving grace for gluten-sensitive restrictions!! I will definitely be coming back to Santa Barbara specifically for HAB!! My husband, daughter and son-in-love shared the delectable buttery Chocolate Chip Cookie, scrumptious Passionfruit Poppyseed Muffin, the balanced sweet, savory and creamy Goat cheese Toast, and the creative Elvis Banana Bread which were all fabulous! My personal brunch item was the breakfast tacos on corn tortillas which were delightful with crispy bacon, a generous layer of cheese, and over easy eggs with just the right kick of spice and seasoning. The staff was very welcoming, accommodating, and informative. I wish I could order for delivery to the San Francisco Bay because I definitely would!!
This bakery was crazy good. Although the line was atrocious at 10AM and took us around 35 minutes to order, the baked goods were unmatched. We were in line originally for their cinnamon rolls but they sell out within the first few hours of opening so I would recommend getting there early. However, we were able to snag a pre-made cinnamon roll kit and we baked it back at home. Everything was pretty expensive but so is everything in Santa Barbara so it didn’t phase us. Would highly recommend trying!
Awesome Place! The best brunch restaurant I found on my way to Northern California from SoCal! We stopped by to reflect on my husband's college memories and found it! There's changed a lot and it's busy, so he was surprised. Coffee is delicious and avocadot toast. And yogurt was the best! However, it is a hot place, so you have to line up. But it is worth it. I strongly recommend that it is a must-visit place in Santa Barbara.
It was by chance that I was in the area and found this casual vibe eatery with a nice outdoor seating garden area. Their decor brings an inviting atmosphere with fast friendly service. Fresh bread, and pastries!
Very beautiful decor, and lots of birds chirping around. Food was good but pricey. The hashbrowns are worth every penny. The fried chicken breakfast sandwich is very good as well. The service was fast but it was not very clear it was Cafe service and so when asked if I needed anything and I asked for a fork, I was surprised by the employee's offended expression. I was not aware of the cutlery and water station and was left to find it on my own. Employees were hard to track down or speak to, other than at the register. Also the self bussing station was in the back of the room through a tight space with full tables of customers. Multiple bussing stations would have been nice, or more clearly labeled if I missed another one.
Came here for breakfast. They have counter service here but they do bring the food to you. There was already a huge line by the time we reached here. Table was surprisingly easy to find. Food came out fairly quick. Coffee was really good. The sourdough on the breakfast sandwich was a little too crunchy but overall it was yummy. Also got the avocado toast which was also good.
We went on Wednesday for brunch and there were a few empty tables. We were lucky to snatch a parking spot next to the bakery. We ordered a pull-pork sandwich, cinnamon roll and a chocolate crossaint. Cinnamon roll was the best: outside layer was crunchy and warm, the frosting wasn't too sweet, the amount of frosting was more than enough foe the whole roll. Chocolate crossaint was alright: pastry was soft and fluffy, chocolate wasn't melted all the way. Pull-pork had a goof spicy kick to it but it was a little too salty for my taste. Staff were so nice, respectful and welcomed. Service was quick. Love their decoration. We would try to sit outside next time as the flowers in the flower box were lovey on a nice day. These seats got filled up real quick though. Bathroom was not the cleanest.
Came on a Saturday around 11am and it was busy but the line moved fairly quickly. Had the scone, avocado toast and biscuit. The flavors on the avocado toast were ok. The bread didn’t fit the avocado. The highlight was the biscuit and the strawberry jam. The cappuccino and iced chai latte were also on par with other places. This place is cute for a casual coffee date.
Casual counter service eatery. Self serve water station with a tiny tap. It was bustling at 10am on a Sunday- but we were lucky to grab a table outside as someone was leaving. Others had hyped the avocado roast so I was looking forward to it, but I found it a little bland and the bread hard to bite into. It looked beautiful though! Coffees were good and the ambiance was fun and relaxed. Cinnamon role was good for “breakfast dessert”. 😊 oh- 2 slices of bacon were a $8 up-charge, it wasn’t on the menu but they did accommodate a side of bacon. The bacon was really delicious and I can almost admit that it was worth the 💰
We stayed very close and this place was well rated that we decided to visit. The setting is very beautiful with indoor and outdoor seating. Their croissant was okay and get them to warm it up if you're eating there. Their whipped honey ricotta toast was wonderful. We asked for a small flat white and it was served like a latte in a big cup (ya I know we are a coffee snob!) that tasted milky. I wish they were more careful about this. Otherwise this place was definitely worth the visit for the ambience and the baked goods variety.
I loved the food and the subtle twists on the plates to keep them refreshing and tasty. The taco had a nice citrus/lime twist that surprised me but was very delicious. The toast had the cucumber slices that complimented the avocado but gave it a nice crunch. Coffee drinks were on point and as expected. I think the portions can be just right to slightly smaller than expected for the price point. (The Egg on the taco plate is from the avocado toast plate). I would eat here again.
We got catfished! We really did want to love this place. The great reviews, the long lines, the lush vegetation and outdoor scenery really lead us to believe that the food here was going to be something special. The food was so unbelievably mediocre. The worst offender was the fried chicken sandwich, which was so incredibly salty that we were not able to eat it at all. Bread was dry and came with no sauce in it or on the side, it was the saddest excuse of a sandwich. Honestly, fast food establishments put together better sandwiches and significantly much less expensive. When we complained about the salty sandwich, the server did promise a refund. So far our account does not reflect such refund. We had to ask twice to get our table cleared from prior guests food scraps and dirty dishes. There was no shade for most of the outdoor seating and the sun was shinning right at us.
