Opinions de Canton Santa Cruz
This place is fantastic. The food was fresh and cooked well. They appeared to be short staffed and getting a large amount of call in orders to go, however we’re still able to seat and serve me in a reasonable amount of time. The staff maintained a great personality and provided a high level of service despite the workload. I overheard one waiter tell another patron they are hiring if you or anyone you know who may be well suited to be a great addition to this wonderful staff. I got the almond chicken and was not disappointed. Even the almonds were very fresh. The quality of food is not common among Chinese restaurants, which I’m sure is why they have an overwhelming amount of orders. They are open on Monday’s which I also find to be a rarity these days in this area. If you haven’t been then you must know it may be a little wait, but great things are worth waiting for.
The food was delicious and the service was great! Everything was brought out warm/hot appropriately. Great place for lunch and dinner.
Hadn’t been here in years but under new ownership.Had the special chow fun and General Tso chicken; both were wonderful. It’s been a week and I’m back. This is the best Chinese restaurant we’ve found in Santa Cruz County. Today we had walnut prawns and Mongolian beef. The waitress remembered me from last week and had the chef make the prawns spicy for me.

It was my first time at this restaurant and I cannot wait to come back! The person who waited on us (I think their name was Isla) was super attentive and had a wonderful energy. Definitely made our visit memorable and enjoyable. Then the food. THE FOOD. I got the Chow Mein and Pork Fried Rice and I'm here to tell you: it was the best fried rice I've ever had. Period. It was so bomb. So yeah, overall an awesome experience and delicious food. See y'all again soon!
A very good takeout meal "for two". But it fed us and a friend who happened by and we still have leftovers. The service was excellent, friendly and helpful. And the food was ready perhaps a bit too fast. I was notified it was ready when I was only about halfway there. They made it right, they remade one dish and kept the rest warm till I got there and everything was excellent when I got home.
Food is so good, fantastic staff are very attentive, and nice Owner incredibly nice
I love this place! Always have a wonderful experience here, the food is constantly good. Such yummy and tasty flavors! Also the owner is very friendly. Highly recommend!
I love this place! The food is consistently amazing, and not to mention, quick. The restaurant is kept incredibly clean and holds a comfortable atmosphere. Seating options are wonderful and the menu offers many options for different needs and tastes. Liliana and Joseph are awesome and attentive servers, and the owner herself is a lovely person! I will be coming back here frequently!
My favorite Chinese restaurant in Santa Cruz (from a local) really good food, super friendly staff, definitely a must visit! :)
"I recently visited Canton Restaurant with my family, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Sarah, greeted us with a warm welcome and ensured we felt right at home. The service was impeccable, and Sarah's kindness and friendliness made our dining experience truly memorable. Despite a busy evening with a large group, the kitchen managed to deliver our food promptly, and it was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was delicious and perfectly prepared. The price was more than reasonable considering the amazing service and high quality of the food. I can't recommend Canton Restaurant enough; it's a must-visit for anyone looking for fantastic Chinese cuisine and exceptional service in Santa Cruz."
Sarah is so accommodating, professional. Good people with good vibes. Food is made with care and excellent ingredients. It is always a joy to visit Canton.
I love this place. The food is very flavorful. The staff always friendly with the focus to keep customers happy. At least, that’s what I experience. I come at least once a week. Check out the lunch specials! You get soup, one main dish with rice, sesame ball and of course the fortune cookie. You can upgrade from rice to brown rice, fried rice, or chow mein and even add additional meat or shrimp all for an additional price. Lunch specials 11:30 -3:30 Full Bar HAPPY HOUR 3:00-6:00 Open ever day. Check their website for hours. Very kid friendly and wheel chair access.
My son and I eat out a lot. We tried Canton for the first time recently and were very impressed. We went back a week later and had the same great experience. In my opinion it's the best Chinese restaurant in the Bay area. My son says that Dynasty is also very good. I have never eaten there and will take my girlfriend today; as I am curious now.

The food in my experience has been almost always fantastic. There was one time quite a while ago when I ordered to go and it wasn't very good but the last few times I've gone have been sensational. Staff is always very kind and courteous, the restaurant is always very clean and there is always a fun relaxing environment. You HAVE to try the cream cheese wontons. I know it's not traditional Cantonese but still so good! 8.5/10 Would definitely recommend.
The all-day happy hour on Wednesday is a great deal. The price is a little higher now than when we first started going there but it's still a good price. Service is usually good and they remember us every time we come in.
(based on a single delivery — we have not seen inside the building!) Reasonable portions. When a menu item is noted as "spicy" this is merely a warning for folks who avoid any hint of hotness (of which there is hardly any in, e.g., the hot & sour soup). If you *want* spicy you should be explicit about that. Delivery is currently via DoorDash. Chicken salad was all lettuce and no cabbage, not much chicken either, but tasty without being overdressed. Moo shu pork made with julienned barbecue pork — fine but not great. Beef tender, broccoli fresh and cooked to perfection. Also it's one of those places where "shrimp" might always mean "prawn" (e.g. the shrimp fried rice, while extremely simple (barely any shoyu or scallion), is decently packed with prawns).

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Santa Cruz county. Many people enjoy the takeout service, but be warned it can take a lot longer than they tell you on the phone. But the food is delicious with pretty generous serving sizes at a reasonable prices.

I've come here a few times with my wife. The food is decent, specialty cocktails alright, but the service is REALLY bad. All day happy hour on Wednesday is nice for a weekday date out. This place could really use a good manager. So much potential that is really missed with service staff that seemingly have never worked a table before.

Completely unacceptable wait times to receive your food, especially for a western-like Chinese food restaurant. The waiter tried his best to accommodate.
We would give a 3 star rating for the kitchen and a 1.5 star rating for the front of the house. We went on Christmas Eve early evening. The place was packed and very loud. It was hard to communicate. The wait was about 1 hour. After 10 minutes seated, someone (we haven’t ordered yet) suddenly brought plates stacked on top of each other and placed them at the side of the table along a bunch of forks. Beside that we never had forks presumably put on the table at a Chinese restaurant we noticed that dishwater was swimming on the plates. We dried the plates with the napkins. After 20 minutes and several attempts to get any attention from the wait staff, we finally received some water which had a chlorine taste. We were quite hungry when the food came. The cups for the soup had also dishwater in them which we needed to drain first and dry with the napkins. The waiter spilled an order of an overfilled beer glass on the chair next to me and the small glass of wine was only a third filled. We spent about 3 hours at the restaurant. The food was OK and the people are friendly. We felt that we paid way too much for the service. But to be fair: the place was packed. They probably did not have enough trained wait staff. Maybe next time we will try take out.

The first time I walked out of a restaurant without eating the food I already paid for. The service is bad AND the plates are over priced. Pictured is the Cantonese Scallops lunch special served with cold soup and three pieces of scallops for only $9! (To be fair there was about twice the amount of rice)
