More traditional and even better with pricing than any other Japanese restaurant here!! Never disappointed. Love love LOVE IT!
One of the original and best authentic Japanese cuisine restaurants in the Santa Maria area. My personal favorite and top recommendation!
Very relaxing atmosphere when I went for lunch with a friend. The service was great and everything we got was delicious.
Best Japanese food in town! Service is always wonderful and you can't beat the amount of food you get for a great price!
The best katsudon I've ever had. The ramen is great, good sushi, I come here once a week.
Love the firecracker roll! Sushi chef Yoshi is sometimes entertaining if you sit at sushi counter.
excellent food, very good service and nice atmosphere! absolute enjoyable dinner!!
After a million times comingo here we finally brought the whole gang and rented one of the private rooms where you sit on the floor. Kids had a great time! Food is always great, service too.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed eating here. The food, the service, the atmosphere- it was all spectacular! It brought back so many memories of my trip to Japan. I will definately be coming back with family and friends!
Best Japanese food in town no other can out beat the power of Hamasoto pig you are another Japanese restaurant in Santa Maria, please don’t even try to size your self up to this place cause you know this is the best Japanese food in town and if I could give a million stars I would my family loves it and I do as well thank you for the best service very friendly and when dining in feels like your eating in Japan lol sounds corny but it’s true if you haven’t tried yet please do and when you leave happy please give a review and let me know cause I do come back every now and then to the check the reviews .
Great Don Katsu. The best ive had. They put it in a bowl and cook an egg over plus add green onions. A great value. Service was excellent. I'll be back.
Great food and service. Highly recommend. Tempura, miso soup, California roll, bean sprouts salad, gyoza, bowl of rice and hot tea. All this for under $10 during their lunch special.
Fantastic. Some of the cheapest Japanese good I have seen particularly in Cali. Obviously not of the HIGHEST quality but don't let that deceive you into thinking it is bad. 10/10 would go again.
Wonderful sushi! Really enjoyed the Japanese Nacho roll, I had two! I also liked the Rock ‘n Roll and miso soup.
Best place in town, definitely a great whole in the wall. Everything from the Sushi to meals is wonderful. The Sushi is the closest thing to the sushi I ate in Japan.
I have been coming here for years. For as long as I can remeber. It is always fabulous food and great service. Very reasonably priced. I love this place.
Good, plentiful and tasty food for a reasonable price! Service quick and friendly :) Def would go again!
Tops my list of favorites. Food, staff & other diners make for a great time. My husband gets to practice his Japanese which he enjoys.
The servers are so sweet! I love going here. The food is great! This is the only place I will order spicy tuna from!
Service was great, sushi chef was friendly, and resteraunt has a relaxing atmosphere. The chef even let me sample the octopus when I wasn't sure if I'd like it
Just ate here for the first time and the food was delicious! We took a chance after reading the reviews online, but we will definitely be back when traveling through Santa Maria.
Great sashimi. We had the lunch special, which was a small portion (12 small pieces), but a great value for what we got at $13.
A Japanese food joint that's more faithful to the original experience. Even the waitresses dress in kimono-like outfits at times. The atmosphere is true to the culture, and the food resembles actual Japanese food than other places that have more Americanized versions of orders. My go to is the Hama Special Noodles, can't go wrong with a nice bowl of ramen!

Some of the best Japanese food I've ever had
I'm a big fan of Japanese food and I've been to several Japanese restaurants in the area. Out of all of them I must say that I like Hamasato the most. They have the best miso soup in my opinion. Yoshi (owner) and his staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere.
Always a delicious meal. Only available for take out because of Covid but they will take phone in and walk in orders. The service was fast and friendly. For a top notch sushi restaurant the prices are very reasonable. I have been a frequent customer for over a decade.
My friend and I recently had dinner there. I ordered the chicken katsu dinner. My friend ordered salmon sushi and spicy tuna sushi. The food was delicious and the waitress was friendly and nice. We felt very welcomed.
Excellent food and service EVERY TIME! Love this place!
Another favorite for over 20 yrs. Food is excellent. Awsome order the lunch specials. Sushi 🍣 not great. Owner is the same lady for 20 yrs. Always perfect! Hot, good quality.
Loved it ...will be stopping by again very soon
Have been coming here since I was a child, the most authentic Japanese experience you can ask for in Santa Maria. Reasonably priced, kind and accommodating staff with an authentic Japanese atmosphere.
Best japanese restaurant in the area, i have been visiting quite a few places around but I always go back to Hamasato. Service is always good, food is affordable and very tasty, the atmosphere is usually quiet and relaxing. If you like sushi and good japanese food this is definitely a place to try
I’ve eaten here about a dozen times now. I’ll just say the food is very good, exceptionally good for the price. Today I had the chicken hamagozen lunch. It came with miso soup, gyoza, salad, along with tempura shrimp, broccoli, and carrots. All this and green tee for just under $15.
I visit Hamasato at least once a week, on my lunch break. It is by far my favorite place to go! The pros list is endless- tons of food for the money, healthy, delicious, very friendly service, quick turnaround. Great, relatively unknown place- for lunch, that is. The dinner service is another great animal of its own. Once I visit for dinner, I will update this review! For now however, do not hesitate to come here for lunch!
This is a solid Santa Maria find. It has been a regular in my rotation for over thirty years and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal here Consider the Family dinners to go and the Teppan Tables for special occasions.

The food and atmosphere is welcoming. The prices for the dishes are reasonable. The sashimi is fresh and yummy. The Teppanyaki was not open though.
Great food at low prices and friendly customer service. Check out lunch specials or specialty rolls. My go to for good Japanese.
1 food was okay. Donkatsu was not traditional japanese donkatsu, which was quite disappointing. Oyakodon was plain 2 i liked the interior of the store. A lot of Japanese vibes! Pretty cool 3 service was overall good.

Pleasant service and authentic Japanese food. Reasonably priced and a great selection. Would return when in the area again.

I had high expectations for this place considering the other Japanese restaurants in the area. I ordered to go around 1pm and was told it would be a 15 minute wait which turned into 25 minutes. I ordered a lunch special at a good price, around 12 bucks however, the side soup was the best part. The sauce that came with my meal tasted a lot like A1 steak sauce mixed with something else. I liked the interior decoration. Willing to give it another go at a later date. Friendly service

Not happy with lunch today...not happy at all! First, if your restaurant opens at 11:30am, the it should be ready to go with all itemsix on the menu. Today, no California Roll lunch special because the rice wasn't ready. Second choice was Miroslav Soto...the Tempura was horribly greasy and under cooked. We've loved this place and have been coming here for over three years...it will be a long time before we return. 😢😢😢
The service was very good. It is a comfortable space. The dinner for 4 included a little cup of what was called vegetable stir fry. We were then served a huge plate of tempura, mostly starch, soggy with oil. Then a plate with strips of tough beef and tender chicken, swimming in teriyaki. I also had 2 orders of sushi which was quite good, though smaller cuts than most places.

Their food doesn’t not taste good at all.
Says it closes at 9pm, and I got there at 8:25, wanted to order something simple for takeout, but they said last order at 8:30 and it's almost 8:30, right? 😒
The bill came out to 33 dollars for the smallest portions I’ve ever seen, two shrimps one slice of potato and one slice of zucchini. The beef penan had 5 slices and all bean sprouts, don’t recommend.
Food, nope. Service, nope. Atmosphere, nope. My boyfriend and I went to have a nice atmospheric dinner. We got the calamari and it was terrible so we told the waiter who said “well i can’t do anything about it”. Okay whatever, then our entrees come, also terrible just so bland and poor quality but there was nothing they could do about it so we had to just pay the bill and leave still hungry. Never going back.
They're lucky I paid for the garbage they served me. Calamari was impossibly tough and rubbery. Took me 4-5 minutes to chew my first and only bite of my Chicken Udon. Server said "well there's nothing we can do about it". Also everything outside of the small dining room they stick you in has worse ambience than a cheesy horror movie. I was seriously sitting by the emergency exit wondering if I should make a run for it or not, instead I paid $52 for inedible garbage, humiliating service, and a scary, unsettling atmosphere. Ended up going to trader joes and making my own chicken miso soup. Don't get trapped in this place like I did.
