Love Mr. Wasabi, a great little spot on Union St. Food is always made right but done in a fast time frame. Lots of different varieties. Good size menu. Wait staff is super friendly. They also have a great to-go option too. Grade A service!!!

Mr. Wasabi is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. The food is delicious and the waitstaff is very nice and attentive. The menu has a wide variety of items from sushi, sashimi to Thai favorites like drunken noodles, Pad Thai and curry. I highly recommend this establishment tucked away in Schenectady.

Frist things frist, the service was out of this world. I was struggling with some red chilis (wasn't use to the spice. That is on me) The waiter asked if I was okay and if I need a meal replacement. I thanked them and I told them I am okay with the meal. The meal is fantastic. (Again, been a long time for myself with eating such spice. It was the spicy ramen. With the red chili's.) We got some sushi and Tempura. 100 out of 10. The Atmosphere is very pretty and dim. Which is a great thing. The only down side (most places has this issue as well.) Is that the restaurant itself has an echo like environment. Doesn't take much for the place to get crowded and very loud. Or not busy, with a handful of people to get loud. Ether way, I'm gonna go back! Oh! Very affordable for this type of food! Two meals and sushi with tip was 47$. I got the green tea as well. That was very good.

The new place is great, the food was fast and tasty, especially the 塩焼きあじ special which was melt in your mouth delicious. Food came out professionally, we had two under 5 who got their food first - no waiting on the adults more complex dishes - which means someone knows keeping the kids happy is rule #1. Great place!

I don't love the new location. The layout seems odd. Pickup of food is always frantic and seems disorganized. But my goodness, the sushi is excellent and that's what it's about really. It's one of the free sushi places that really sure excellent veggie sushi too if anyone in your life needs that!

The waitress is hilarious! Totally rude, she could care less. She actually wears a black t-shirt that states, in writing, that she doesn't care. When we asked where the drink menu was, she said they only serve standard soda drinks. I asked for an Asahi Japanese beer, and she said they don't have it. I was just about to give up and drink water when I saw the stainless steel shape of a Sapporo peaking out of the shelf on the wall behind the sushi chefs. She did bring me a cold one of those with a glass. When she brought out my miso soup, she plopped it down, spilling some on the table, but she was already looking and walking away. She pretended she didn't notice. The place was not busy. There were other wait staff. It felt like a Seinfeld episode. The sushi was good, the menu was great except there was no drink menu. I've had sushi in Tokyo, Japan, numerous times, and this place was pretty good for being in Upstate New York. Kudos for the obnoxious service! Thank you, Mr Wasabi, for a memorable restaurant experience.

Mr. Wasabi is my first choice for Sushi. I especially love their rolls and sashimi. Their food is always fresh and delicious. I often order take out to bring home and the food is prepared quickly and always ready when I get there to pick it up. If you love sushi and other Japanese delicacies, then you must try Mr. Wasabi on Union St. in Schenectady. It's the only place I go for sushi.

Our go to sushi spot in the area. We go pretty much every Friday, never disappoints. Consistently good fresh sushi. Once in awhile we'll switch it up and get fried rice or dumplings and they are always also very good. Good service when we dine in as well.

The food was delicious. My entire experience was awesome. I haven't had sushi as good as this in a long time. The miso soup is good and so was the ramen. Pretty chill atmosphere, and nice decor. The presentation was spot on as well and the food was just as I'm feeling to the eyes as it was to the mouth. 5 out of 5.

Great service I eat a lot of Japanese food. Really enjoyed the yellow tail and jalapeño. Their baby octopus was some of the best I ever had. Not sure what that sauce was but there was almost a hint of peanut butter.

I sat at the bar and got to see them do their prep work. Soup is standard they you would normally get. I enjoyed all the rolls I got. Was a bit sad they didn't have a Philadelphia roll on the menu

We had the sashimi appetizer, crab rangoon appetizer, Angry Dragon roll, and the pork ramen bowl. Food was fantastic and fish was fresh. Rangoons were not our favorite but still good. Presentation was beautiful and elegant. The service was quick and attentive. I was impressed with how well the staff worked together to cover our table. We never felt neglected or interrupted; beautiful balance. Would visit again in a heartbeat!

I haven’t shared a review in quite some time. But I just have to. I chose six different rolls. The Alaskan, California, Miami, spicy lobster, avocado, and the spider roll. I also got two Boba tea’s. The teas were a hit. Not my thing, Im just drinking bottled water, but the kid loved them. The sushi? The sushi is out of this world. They are portioned well, they are rolled nicely, and they didn’t skimp on the fish. They didn't skimp on the sauces either. Best sushi I’ve had in Schenectady, hands-down. I’m literally chowing down on it right now! Note: The picture I took does NOT do it justice. In order to appease the masses, I pulled and rearranged the sushi into three different servings for three separate people. Some got knocked a little bit loose from being transferred back and forth until everyone was pleased with which ones they had. So it may not look as aesthetically pleasing as it did when we first pulled it out of the DoorDash bag. But y’all, it’s worth every penny. I am hooked now!

This should be a 4 star restaurant in our opinion. We have eaten at most of the sushi and also Thai places in the area, and they are by far the best. Consistently fantastic quality, their service is great, and they are reasonably priced. I can't say enough good about them. I almost don't want to give out this tip, but if you are 21 or older and interested in Saki (which I am not usually a big fan of) do yourself a favor and try their black label in the small bottle. You have to buy what looks like a small wine bottle @$20 and worth every penny. You can take it home after, if it's just you or u don't finish it. I don't even like saki but we loved that one. It didn't burn at all, and is made of all organic ingredients.. Don't usually get drinks w dinner there, but that was as good as their food. Top shelf 👌

They have a great selection and I've never been disappointed. The staff are eager to explain the menu and take pride in their offerings. You don't have to give their food a soy and wasabi soaking - the flavor is just right.

We ate at Mr. Wasabi this past Saturday evening & it was delightful as always the food was delicious & they now have outdoor dining which was a plus. I was disappointed that they now have a limited selection of teas & dinner items not the same as past years but still worth visiting when in NY. The staff are still friendly & efficient, & helpful with recommendations.

The salmon hibachi was very tastefully done and presented. I also liked their California rolls. Waitress was willing to customize my order as well. Food was served quickly. Good atmosphere.

I have had a delightful experience every time I have been here. The food is great. The sushi melts in your mouth and is the perfect temperature - a juxtaposition of warm and cool ingredients - and the shrimp hibachi and fried calamari are to die for. The seafood was as good as any I've had in the area and the sauces for the hibachi and calamari took these dishes to another level. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. I have been offered free dessert more than once and it's working because I will keep coming back. The only reason I can't give it five stars is that I can't help but compare the sushi to the transcendent and unusual sushi that I had while I lived in Washington, DC, and it couldn't possibly match that.

The roast duck fried rice was good. Loved their dumplings 💯. Took a while to bring our food because they were busy, but the guy made it up with 2 $20. gift cards. 🎁 Would go again and eat.

This new location is larger and has outdoor dining available, good service, delicious food....I tried the fried calamari and it was a good appetizer. I ordered 2-3 different entrees and the portions were good for two.

The restaurant is very nice and modern setting. The food was great. We had bang bang chicken for appetizer. I had spicy crunchy kani roll and Boston roll, they both were pretty good. My husband had a big roll l forgot the name but he really liked it too. They are little pricey and they don't have bento box type of menu so l took one star off. We'll definitely go back.

Hello, This is James Jr, and this is my review. As per any sushi restaurant, I had to try their Raw Salmon roll, and Miso Soup first and foremost. I was not disappointed in the slightest, the food melted right in your mouth. A mix of salty, savory goodness with the ginger palette cleanse being perfect after you’ve taken 8 sushi rolls in your mouth. The speed of which the food came out is very swift as well. The atmosphere is phenomenal, not only is the outdoors surrounding area beautiful, but the music and jazzy vibe inside makes me feel right at home in New York with modern Asian culture shining through. The Service is incredibly friendly, good mannered and holds a top cleanliness standard. The only thing I could maybe improve upon is the soy sauce containers as it is very easy to spill on the table (or on yourself, haha. My shaky fingers). Overall though? If you want a pleasant dinner or lunch date with your significant other? This is the place to go.

Loved the food which was priced, prepared and served well! Located in the heart of Niskayuna on the Union Street. Although it lacks a own parking spot but you can park on the street for up to two hours without having to pay for it. Restrooms are clean and overall experience was a pleasant one at that! There is a outdoor seating as well that is extremely neat and clean. Coming from NYC (and heart of Albany) Niskayuna and this restaurant gave a clean touristy yet enjoyable vibe!

Clean and nicely decorated and the service was excellent. However my meal was just ok. I had spicy Ramen which had zero flavor so zi asked if they had a sauce I could add so she brought me something that made out spicier butt did not add flavor. I also had the apetizer fried oysters which had way too much breading and very little oyster.

My first takeout experience was not great. The sushi was good, but being ignored by every employee soured my experience.

Appetizers were good but drinks were weak, miso was flavorless, and dinner was overcooked. Servers were really nice but disorganized, we had 4 servers come to our table separately asking for our order even after we already placed it. But it wasn’t loud, it was calm and quiet so that was nice.

Unfortunately, our recent take-out experience from Wasabi Asian Bistro was disappointing. The food was bland and lacked flavor, leaving us feeling underwhelmed. While the order was ready on time, the quality of the food did not meet our expectations. We were hoping for a flavorful and satisfying meal, but unfortunately, this was not the case.

This was NOT donburi! I am actually giving them 2.5 stars, but since that isn't an option it gets rated down. I ordered a katsudon. Here are my pros and cons. Pros: 1. The salad wasn't just cheap lettuce. Cons: 1. It was not even close to donburi for many reasons. It wasn't even served in a bowl! It was like a normal entree. Anyone who knows anything about this dish will understand. 2. The pork was overcooked (meat was dark brown), was really cheap meet, and there was this weird glaze to it. Is this suppose do be some American spin to the dish? 3. Egg is supposed to be mixed all throughout the dish. There was one circular egg piece in one little spot..seriously? 4. The onions should be in with the egg but that was deposited on the opposite side of the container lol. 5. Price. This restaurant is very expensive as these same dishes are much cheaper normally (even in NYC). Don't get me going on the crazy Ramen prices (plus that isn't part of this). So the price was set for a much better quality dish than what I go. I called to complain about the food to at least give them a heads up before I rip them apart in a review...they responded "okay". LMAO! If their food quality is on par with what I ate then I feel sorry for people who actually think this is Japanese food. Mizu Sushi is much better (but no donburi) and they are much less expensive for the same dishes. Worth the extra few miles in some cases. ** I DO NOT RECOMMEND DINING HERE**

Due to the high ratings, I decided to go to this sushi place and of course my craving for sushi today! Poor and I mean very poor service: the waitress never bothered to ask if we needed anything or pour glasses of water throughout our meal. I called her a few times but being the only customers in the store, she still pretended that she could not hear me until I screamed out loud. Last comment on the waitress is that her mood was super off since we walked in. Don't know if she was having a bad day in general, but she was a bad waitress overall. Food: terrible small sushis that were poorly made. They used very small amount of rice which hardly stuck together and broken sushi by the time it went in my mouth. However, the shumai, miso soup, and kani salad were good but not the hibachi steak and the sushis. Tip for the restaurant: get better waiter/waitress with possibly a smile on the side and get the chefs to be better at rolling the sushis.

Tonight’s dinner was disappointing. It wasn’t their usual best. Greeted by un friendly faces food was ok but not up to par. Last part of the meal they started cleaning and started closing routine You could smell cleaning products while eating and the air conditioning was shut off early along with the tv. We felt very rushed being that it was close to closing time. Mr wasabi is classified as a higher end restaurant but tonight’s experience did not meet expectations. Too bad because I usually have wonderful service and delicious food. 😐

Have been going here for years and really looked forward to some great food and friendly staff. Something has shifted in the last few months. The service isn't as friendly and the quality and presentation of the rolls has dropped. I used to bring all of my out of town guest here for great sushi. I live 1 hour and 15 minutes away. Now I'm not sure if I'll be back.

Used to get rock shrimp all the time it was so good! Tonight both my orders were undercooked and mushy :/ I ate my order because I was super hungry and my friend threw his out and said I will probably get sick. I hope not! I have a stomach of steel so I should be good. Lol. He said his dumplings were good tho! But yea, please fry shrimp longer.

We went on a random Wednesday bc we were in the area. This was our first visit and unfortunately probably last. We ordered hot tea bc it was cold and while it tasted good it was not even as hot as the hot water out of a tap. Basically room temp. The food was ok. We got rock shrimp, tasted like the batter, crab Rangoon, again tasted like the outside very heavy and three roll special. The rolls were good but nothing special. Server definitely had a dismissive attitude. Wife and I shared and he? seemed annoyed at that.

The service was pretty slow but I did sort of like cranky waiter when he came. He wasn't bashful without scolding the children for nearly tripping him. A plate of curry chicken rice was $15. It would have been enough as a side dish for two people. I couldn't really taste any Curry and I couldn't really find any chicken in it. I ordered a roujiamo, essentially a Chinese Burger. It was cold. The meat was very low quality with gristle in it and in diced chunks rather than shredded. The dough was chewy not flaky like I think it is supposed to be.(I've actually had this in China) It was also really small and could fit in the palm of my hand. It was $8. The atmosphere of the restaurant was trendy and nice. The tea was good I didn't enjoy the meal. In my opinion it was a bit expensive coming in at $30 with tip. I don't plan on going back.

Poor service, did not feel welcomed by waitress. The tempura was overcooked and soaked in oil. The oil had a strange taste and we felt sick after leaving. Don't plan on returning.

I have had them deliver to my home a few times. Always ordering something different hoping it would be better. But it never is. Poor food quality and the wassabi is to weak I each time went and made my own to used with the food they brought. I do not recommend to anyone who knows what good sushi is. You will be disappointed.

Previous Ratings deceiving. Tried to place cause of its high rating and was highly disappointed. Order very standard, spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll and the rice was hard and not fresh. I wish I could have tried the sushi. After almost 75 minutes of asking when my "special roll" was coming and being told "its coming from 4 different staff," all while the 3 other guests at my table ate their food and waited and waited and waited. We asked and asked and nothing. Then when the bill came, we complained and they took $10 dollars of a $90 bill. Shame on you Wasabi. That is terrible customer service. I am in the business of customer service, if you had been my staff and done that and then not comp'd the entire party, your job would be on the line. Shame on you. I will not return.

Arrived at restaurant, walked in went directly to the restroom and came out showed my phone. Stated im here to pick up a "named the company" for "gave customer name". The one staff member passed me the food bag as he looked at my phone and receipt to make sure he handed correct order to me. I hit "CONFIRM" on my end touching the bag to leave out. Out of no where another staff member come and grab the food bag and asked me to confirm. As everyone in this conversation can clearly see on my phone that I shows on the way to customer. SMH! The RUDE, AGGRESSIVE, ARROGANT, DISRESPECTFUL, INCONSIDERATE, ANGRY, ARGUMENTATIVE staff member says no your not leaving with the food. I told him hey its not my order to argue over I will contact customer care and let them know what's going on and have them cancel on my end so I could move on. I also contacted the customer to let them know what's happening. I felt bad for the customer she stated she was a mom and I was pouring down raining this particular night. The staff was actually laughing like it was a joke. I'm thinking they must feel their messing up my money, but no they did not all they did was mess up my time. Reason why is I had to wait there at the restaurant to get on the phone with customer and customer care before leaving location. Eventually the customer had to come and pick up her order and apologize that this occurred and hoping to get a refund. Please refund that customer her money. Mr. Wasabi you guys are wrong for that. You get 0 stars

Went with a date we got seated, then 15 minutes went by no one came to take our order. Restaurant was about 30% full. I finally went up to ask for the manager then all of a sudden 2 server suddenly became available. I told them we were leaving and they need to have better customer service. Not trying to bash this establishment but come on you're not busy, yet customers had to wait 15 minutes and still no one came over to check on us.

Ordered for pick up and got bunch of food (teriyaki chicken, sushi, pad Thai) and everyone was disappointed with the lack of flavor and the portion size. A medium size container filled 1/3 with food. I can’t speak to the service and atmosphere.

Never again. I brought potential partners here for an initial meeting and left embarrassed by the experience. The staff and service were far from mediocre they came across as borderline rude. I chose this bistro based on its reviews, which in hindsight was a mistake on my part.

Hung up on me. I demanded my money back. That’s right—after being a loyal customer who’s dined in multiple times and called in orders, Wasabi Asian Bistro decided the best way to handle a minor order issue was to simply hang up the phone. My wife ordered my usual sushi roll—the “Angry Dragon roll,” which is supposed to have fried shrimp in it. After being hung up on and confronting the staff, I found out they served me eel instead. My Stomach was hurting for 2 days…… This blatant disrespect and lack of professionalism is beyond unacceptable. As a business professional with 8 years of hospitality experience along with being a Real Estate Broker, this made me FURIOUS . It’s astonishing that any establishment would treat a returning customer this way. If this is their idea of customer service, then they’ve completely missed the mark. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone—professionals, couples, or frankly anyone who expects a shred of courtesy. The food might be decent, but the attitude and treatment from the staff is absolutely not. I’m done with this place and I’d suggest others steer clear unless you want to eventually be treated the same way.
