Opinions de Viva Mexicana Sebastopol
This place is a sebastopol gem. To begin, the menu offers vegan gluten free choices to be at the front of healthy thoughtful food. There is a large menu with standard mexican served with a twist of west county. I ordered the super duper nacho plate with grass fed beef and it was delicious. Great flavor with freshness describes the food. In the chicken taco there were hints of citrus marinate. It brightened the flavor of chicken without being over powering. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was inviting and clean. On the walls hanged original art from a oxaocan latinx artist. The self taught artist clearly had control of his water color medium. The art seemed to synthesize Frida Khalo, tarot cards, and medieval art. It was both beautiful and interesting with a feeling of ancient civilizations. Finally, the reason I will return is for the salsa and pico de gallo. They are served with corn chips. They both had great zesty flavor with enough of a smokey bite on the salsa to keep your attention. This place is easy to miss and looks very unassuming. Dont be fooled, this place is great!
Gratitude Burrito!!! if you’re a dude. you must go gratitude!! I got it with the jalapeño sauce on the side personally. but do YOUR thing. Aiden was super helpful! and nice! Cool dude! Definitely recommend this place for out of town vegans. Wont be Disappointed!!
If you’re looking for the highest quality Mexicali / Cal-mex food in Sebastopol this is your spot! Over the years I’ve eaten here probably..:.. 150 times? Something like that. I’m a vegetarian and this place makes my favorite veggie burrito of all time. I just say “papas papas papas.” I haven’t looked at the menu in years so I forget if that’s exactly what it’s called but apparently it means something to the staff. I believe it’s a potato hash, beans, veggies, goat cheese, and mango salsa. If you’re fully plant based just say hold the cheese obviously. It’s DELICIOUS. Just so well done in terms of flavors, textures, and overall nutrition. So glad Cima and team have been offering such wonderfully nourishing food over the years. Everything here always tastes very fresh and the ingredients are clearly well sourced. I’m not sure what % is organic but it definitely doesn’t seem like your average bozo sysco sourcing which is basically required for cheap menu prices. Here the prices are definitely more than your average burrito spot but the quality is way better. Also I’ve been eating these burritos with adults over the years and no one can finish a whole one without getting a belly ache so you’re definitely paying for 1.5 meals with a single order. Enjoy!
Really great place. I appreciate the fact they have a vegan/vegetarian menu. The food is great and they're super friendly as well. Highly recommended!
Wow, this place is amazingly good. We've been here three times now and have loved everything we have tried. I've actually dreamt about the marinated chicken. Insane. Atmosphere is great and the owner is extremely sweet and friendly. Don't sleep on this place.
I love this place. I need to eat gluten free and this is the only place I can get a burrito, and they are always SO delicious!! The vibe is always friendly and chill, highly recommend.
Finally stopped here for the first time and was so impressed! Lots of veggie options, unique combos, and good looking meat options, too. I had the mushroom and broccoli burrito, and it was delicious. The owner was there and super friendly. Colorful and clean interior decorated with paintings for sale from a Mexican artist. Total gem of a restaurant, especially if you're looking for healthy organic Mexican food with true veg options. I'll definitely be back!
Just passing through town and decided to stop at Viva Mexican, so glad I did!! Instantly welcomed, a watermelon juice drink was suggested, which I had and absolutely lovED! The chips and salsa were very good, and then came the awesome Veggies From Heaven Burrito! Wow! Best vegan burrito I’ve ever had (they DO have regular burritos as well, those sounded tasty too!)
I noticed a sign for the happy hour here and finally stopped by for a burrito and a margarita. The owner was so friendly and helped me feel right at home. Every element in the burrito was scrumptious and so satisfying. It was more bland than other burritos but I found that really comforting. I liked it that way so I didn’t ask for hot sauce or anything. The margarita was delicious and came in a mason jar which I love. My friend ordered the sopas and really enjoyed those too. Excited to go back and try the Mexican lasagna we heard about. Happy hour gives you $2 off margaritas which is awesome!
Quite possibly the best vegan burritos I’ve ever had. Sweet potato’s inside were amazing. Super recommend!!!
Delicious Mexican food with great vegan & gluten free options!!
Fish tacos were delicious, our server was so kind and pleasant, and there was even live music🎉
Great place, great food, excellent service. Love it here!!!
I stopped by here for lunch and had the local fish tacos. They're delicious. The staff is friendly and you can tell the food is made with care. I highly recommend this place.
Came predominantly for the gluten-free burrito, and it did not disappoint! They use a cassava flour tortilla, which was really good. I was so happy to have a legit burrito after 10+ years of having celiac. I had the carnitas tropical burrito -- carnitas, beans, rice, and an apple chipotle salsa. It was so tasty! They also had really good drinks -- we tried a cucumber mint mocktail drink with dinner and a Fresca lemon drink for the road. Both were super refreshing on a hot day. And finally the service -- I didn't catch her name, but I got the feeling she was the owner or manager. I loved her! Her attitude was phenomenal and she truly tried to take care of her guests. I overheard her tell another guest that she has special things on the menu (vegan, gluten free, etc) because she knows most restaurants won't have those things because they aren't "money makers." It's so obvious that she cares about what she does and it shows in the food and overall experience!
Fabulous vegan dishes, clearly labeled and promoted by the business. Gratitude burrito is killer. Eggplant mix burrito is great (this was an off menu adjustment). Oat-meat tacos great. Vegan horchata delicious. Vegan desserts delicious. So glad I FINALLY came into this place! Now it’s one of our go to vegan takeout joints!
Amazing place and one of our most frequently visited restaurants during this pandemic. Tons of veggie options but they also do great meat dishes which is perfect for my family since we have some vegetarians and non-vegetarians in the house. Super burrito is massive and I usually make two meals out of it. Salsas are on the spicy side but homemade and so good. Homemade chips too. Always fresh. Highly recommend!
A must for vegans. We got the butternut squash enchiladas and the gratitude burrito which apparently are the two most popular vegan items on the menu. I can definitely see why. The food surpassed expectations. I’ll be returning to try some of their other items too since they had so many vegan options.
The quality of the food is great. The meat especially. The atmosphere is amazing and beautiful. The customer service is fantastic and i look forward to visiting this place again :)
In love with the vegan butternut squash enchiladas! Delicious combination. Sauce is just on the edge if too spicy for me but the beans and rice help mitigate that. Nice folks, too. My husband gets the tacos.
Yummy! This little place is easy to drive by, as we did, and glad we turned around to eat lunch here. I had the La Grinella, a chicken burrito with white beans and marinated chicken, the sauce was outstanding! My husband had the carnitas burrito and devoured it. Service was super helpful and very nice, he even brought out water for our dog. Eat here, you won't regret it!
We have been in the North Bay for 10+ years - Can't believe I didn't know about this place! For veggie or vegan foodies looking for excellent traditional yet healthy and tasty Mexican: this is the place! Many different options for burritos, tacos, salads, etc. All deelish! Also Seema/Sima the proprietor was a really great hostess- friendly and helpful. Definitely a food enthusiast who appreciated quality creative food that is healthy and vegetarian, including vegan and G-F. Highly recommend Viva if you love Mexican and are tired of Chipotle.
What a little gem! This is why I love Sebastopol. We came in for lunch and we were greeted by the warm, friendly proprietor. She pointed us to the specials board and informed us that she also had a couple of Persian dishes for Persian New Year. We ordered those and a Tres Leches cake, all of which were delicious. The restaurant is very clean and inviting. Next time we may try the Mexican food, but we loved having an opportunity to try her Persian dishes. Can't wait to go back!
They made the best tasting super burrito that I've had the Santa Rosa- Sebastopol area. The meat was tasty. The beans were noticeably better than other restaurants. The guacamole was good. Even the rice had more flavor.
Love this restaurant and all the food, my family has been eating here for years and years, and will keep coming back!
Love their vegan options. The lentil soup is the very best I’ve ever had.
Been going here for years and years. They're the best! Mushroom madness is absolutely delicious.
A delightful little Mexican restaurant that offers a vegan menu! I had the butternut squash enchiladas with fresh avocado and spicy chipotle sauce, plus veggie refried beans and Spanish rice. I enjoyed every bite. I also enjoyed a Vegan coconut horchata— this had to be hands down the most delicious and tasty horchata I’ve ever drank!! So good! The staff were very friendly and hospitable. They also offer a couple of vegan desserts. I enjoyed my meal and felt the price point was well worth the price. A healthy meal that felt satisfying and nourishing. I highly recommend this cute dining spot located in enchanting Sebastopol.
We had dinner at a delightful restaurant in Sebastopol! The food was really delicious and well prepared! They take care to offer vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian options! Solid place for anyone. The staff was exceptional! Super friendly and knowledgeable, plus while we dined in, the server greeted everyone by name! They seem to have a dedicated and devoted following! We had vegan tamale plate, vegan sopes plate and a vegan elote! All so good! Their watermelon aqua fresca was next level! So fresh and tasty! We really enjoyed our experience and would recommend this place to anyone! Viva good food!
I really enjoyed this place, which has been in this town since 1986, and it is a great choice for all interested in clean Mexican food. I have had both takeout and delivery (which arrived piping hot). Sima was so nice to meet, thank you. I ordered the gratitude burrito 2 x in a row that was recommended by others on the "happy cow" vegan food reviews. She suggested some other items, including the butternut squash enchiladas, which I can't wait to try next time. It is/was outstanding, with its blend of thoughtful ingredients. This is a worthy vegan menu that is separated from the rest and stands on its own. Excellent sauces and chips and salsa. I didn't have any worry or question about the knowledge of veganism and the desire for clean eating. Sorry, I could not review the meat side, but imagine it's worthwhile as well. Side note... My friend did get a white bean, cheese, and rice burrito, which he thought was amazing as well.
Best Mexican food in Sebastopol, hands down. Clean place, fast service and very delicious dishes. Server wore mask and gloves when serving our food. They also have beautiful and colorful posters for sale as well as wine, cheese, and much more. Highly recommend this spot. I'm definitely coming back.
Super friendly servers and great service. Delicious Mexican food. Enjoyed a Tres Leches dessert. Right next to the car wash.

Wonderful lunch! Had the quesadilla and it was great! The chicken was in their special marinade. Food came fast and service was great!
One of my favorite places in town. Healthy and delicious, and the kindest owners/workers you'll meet. The butternut squash enchiladads and the gluten-free burritos are *chef's kiss*
We used Viva Mexicana catering service in Bodega Bay for six days (lunch and dinner) and everything was excellent. The team was very flexible with dietary restrictions and special requests. Meals always arrived hot, and the meals/cuisine varied from day to day! Communication was lovely throughout, and they quickly adapted to the right portions for our group. We’ve already worked with them twice and look forward to doing so again!
Viva has been my favorite since the nineties… long time… love their rice and refined beans and their salsa. The new owner is really nice. Glad she hasn't changed recipes. Good portions and meat is always quality without fatty bites. Quality ingredients.
Went on Persian night - amazing food served by a very caring and attentive staff - solid Persian cuisine made with love. We’re lucky to have this place in Sonoma County
Incredible burritos, especially vegetarian (gratitude burrito!). Looking forward to trying out their Persian menu!
A tried and true staple here in Sebastopol. The healthiest and freshest Mexican food around. They use organic ingredients, the flavors are well balanced and not overpowering or too spicy, and they use oil very minimally so you can actually taste the individual ingredients. They use locally caught fish, grass fed beef, and they have a lot of wonderful vegan and vegetarian options as well. I also have to stick to a very special diet due to some health issues and this is one of the only places I can get takeout from because they don't use excessive seasonings. I found a couple dishes that I can eat from time to time and I'm really grateful for that.
I've been eating Viva Mexicana's delicious food for years, usually take out. I'm vegan, and I love the variety of vegan options. my favorite: very vegan burrito. The owner is delightful, and the whole staff is friendly and skilled. I like that the restaurant doesn't close between lunch and dinner, so we can eat whenever we want. I feel lucky to have Viva Mexicana in our town!
Dined at Viva last night with friends from Petaluma. We absolutely loved our experience. It was chef and owner Sima’s Persian Night, something new she is doing on Monday and Tuesday nights. Sima is Persian, and although she has served amazing Mexican food since assuming ownership of the restaurant, she has always added a twist that reveals her Persian influence. The new menu offers a great selection of traditional Persian cuisine, sweet, savory, tart and includes wine, beer, and specialty drink pairings. My party enjoyed a crisp Sauvignon blanc, but next time I will try the Santa Rosa plum fruit roll up margarita as it looked beautiful and the woman at the table next to ours said it was delicious. We ordered an herb and cheese app, sima brought olives in a walnut sauce, the cucumber yogurt dish, lamb and quince stew, lentil and rice, and chicken pomegranate stew. All was delicious! We rarely order dessert, but were curious about the menu so had the pistachio ice cream, havla, and bread pudding. Sima brought an herbal tea that was a perfect compliment. Each dessert was incredible-the ha la my favorite but my friends voted the bread pudding. Amazing! The portions are just right which allowed us to try many different things, including desserts, but leave feeling satisfied, not “stuffed.” Sima made everyone in the restaurant feel as though they were in her home. Persian music was playing in the background, and although she was busy serving, supporting staff, helping with takeout orders, she spent time visiting at tables, sharing food and her extensive knowledge about the traditions behind the meals on the menu. I noticed some customers arrived expecting her normal Mexican fare and she honored it. This is not a “get in and get out” experience- come for a unique, sobre mesa experience. Highly recommend.
I ordered delivery but this easily became one of my favorite spots around! not only do they have amazing mexican food but the persian menu on mon/tues is amazing. some of the best gheimeh i’ve ever eaten in my life. love the persian menu love what you guys are doing thank you
Viva Mexicana has an amazing variety of burritos that work for all kinds of dietary restrictions. Whether you’re looking for vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options, they’ve got you covered. The flavors are absolutely fantastic—fresh, bold, and so satisfying. It’s rare to find a place that balances variety with quality this well. Highly recommend! The Traditional Medicinal Employees love it

Love Mexican food but it's difficult to find it without dairy. We drove a long ways to enjoy the food. Also love the paintings and lamps!

I love the food here, and the staff is always friendly. An important however note is that the menus do not reflect the recently raised prices… I noticed the price for the super burrito was two dollars more than what was listed, and I only caught it at the register before paying.

Fish taco kind of blah. The pico de gallo was sautéed, not crunchy, sauce was blah. Refied beans were good, coconut horchata was great.
The food was below average for such a high rated restaurant. We specifically went for vegan options. We also took non vegan food and both were equally poor. The service is excellent, the host/server was great. I'm was also annoying that tip option was pre programmed. I'd recommend to drive 5 mins more to sebastapool downtown and eat and many other options.

Service was awful in that there was one person working. He had to manage those seated and orders online. We had a 6:15 reservation. Got our appetizers an HOUR later. Then dinner and finally our drinks. One couple waited 20 minutes and left without being waited on. He didn’t clear tables and was not attentive. That aside we were there for the Persian menu (yes, at a Mexican restaurant. The owner is Iranian). We shared 4 small plates and then had our own small plates. Plenty of food. The only white they had was a rose. Bleh. So food was good but man the service was rough. It was also very loud so it was hard to talk and listen.
My food was served cold and tasteless. My husband’s dish was besides being cold, parts of the ingredients were burnt and soggy. It did not taste anything like Persian food. The sever was completely absent minded and lazy. Complete lack of atmosphere!!!
