Opinions de Red's Barbecue & Grillery Simi Valley
My folks who are two elderly people who live at Varenita, a home over on Cochran, LOVE Red’s, especially for the $11 lunch. Red's has great food, especially the very low priced very properly cooked, very large burgers! But don’t listen to me remember, this is a barbecue joint so enjoy their wonderful barbecue chicken, barbecue beef, tri-tip, and other great items and their wonderful garlic rolls. Red’s has been a staple of Simi Valley for a long time, and it is easy to see why: the food is great. Their service is great and there’s never a long wait.
If you love red meat like I do, this is the best spot around here. Second to none service as well. The Tri-tip is just perfect.
Good service they serve a a good garlic bread for us that was so soft and good and they give complimentary big ice cream if it’s your birthday a great place
I had a problem with a take out order. I brought in my receipt and gently explained the issues I had. They were very apologetic and issued a gift certificate for the amount and a bit more. I admire the time & courteous attitude of this long time restaurant.
Red's is a great local staple. It's not the best barbecue ever, to be sure - but it's solid and dependable. The garlic rolls are great as well, and they come in endless supply. The service is in my experience always very friendly. It doesn't feel corporate which is refreshing, it feels like a place where real people can connect. And don't sleep on the takeout! Settling in at home with a pound or two of meat is an absolute treat.
Called reds asking for a preorder for my birthday and didn’t know what to expect. I talked to Nivey and she was very accommodating and super helpful with answering all my questions! My order turned out perfect for my party and the food was delicious, we ordered a ranch style catering package with chicken and tritip. Tritip was seasoned perfectly, chicken was moist, for our sides we got mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and the chopped barbecue chicken salad. Couldn’t be happier with my decision, we’ll definitely be ordering again!! :)
We love Reds. As someone who is very particular about bbq. I am never disappointed with the way they serve the food. Tonight we had a combo plate, tri tip and beef ribs. The tri tip was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the beef ribs were exceptional which is not easy for a restaurant to achieve. This restaurant is celebrating their 31st year in business. If I could offer some advice I would say it is time to freshen up a bit. Carpet and a lighter color paint would help.
I'll make this quick and simple as I still gotta do some chores. Lemme get you situated first 🤙🏽 Ample parking lot ✅ but still carpool if possible. They can get busy. On a Thursday visit, it was somewhat packed. BUT!!!! it's worth the wait! 💯 Trust me. Got over 20M views here. 😁 Great tasting food 💯 I recommend EVERYTHING we go. See pictures. Show server and they'll know what it is ✅ You'll start with their garlic rolls. SO FREAKING GOOD! 🤤 End your experience with their CHEESECAKE. HOLY!!! 🤤 So good!!! Indoor/outdoor seating ✅ Good for dates, friends, family gathering ✅ Follow for more! 😎🤙🏽 You'll thank me later!
Kind of a strange atmosphere for a BBQ joint but it's clean and comfortable. More of a diner feel? Got the tri-tip lunch special, juicy, tender, excellent. Didn't really want to put sauce on it because it was standalone good. Enjoyed the endless and free garlic rolls. I ate up everything they gave me more than happily.
This BBQ joint called Red's is a well known restaurant in Simi. It was great to see they are still offering curbside pick up to anyone who wants to enjoy the comforts of eating at home, or still not completely comfortable eating out. We had lunch today and per usual it did not disappoint. The menu looks revamped and they have added a few specials. I like that they offer a full size and half size to their delicious salads. And who can resist the garlic rolls. Such a tasty starter to whatever you pick from the menu. Our waiter was attentive and on a hot day like today, he offered our drinks to go. This is the perfect lunch spot or dinner spot. Stop in to eat and browse the many shops nearby. A really great rolled ice cream shop is a few doors down and Homegoods. Who can resist ice cream and shopping at Homegoods?
Excellent Service I ordered the beef ribs. They were about 1/4 the size of Texas BBQ beef ribs. I think they are the leftovers from the prime rib...short on meat but good flavor. The price was okay for all you can eat. I have never been to a BBQ restaurant that didn't have brisket on the menu...and peach cobbler... but I guess we're not in Texas anymore ToTo!
After getting an oil change we debated what we should do next. Being we’re fat boys my friend took me to a spot that was good. He started telling me about some rolls. I guess like the garden place has bread sticks and well known for them but hat is how Reds. I like to challenge places like this. Not because they have one thing down does it mean all their menu is top notch. With that being said I ordered the mesquite burger which came with two sides. I choose scallops and Mac n cheese. How can you blame I said I am a fat boy. I know it’s not the healthiest but they are my favorite and it they serve it I’m ordering it. So I ordered mesquite burger rare, yes I said that right rare as in bloody pink. Like I said if they offer it , I’m ordering it. Now standards are pretty low meaning there are some mistakes and I’ll let it slide some having the restaurant redeem themselves by fixing the issue. Now it was close to closing so I get scraping the bottom of the pot. I’m not going to expect a new batch when all they are going to serve is a spoon full. But I got to say if certain foods are breaking down say “we ran out” and save yourself having the customer getting an impression of the food. I’ll explain. Mac n cheese breaks down making the cheese get sort of hard the oils or grease in the Mac start seperating and even though the Mac is full of liquid it can still be dry and the way it clumps. You get one spoon full and the bowl comes attached to it he spoon as if hanging for dear life. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has eaten old Mac cheese. Further more you leave in heat and it gets a sort of taste on the cheese. So how can you come back from that?the scallops were not any better. The one thing I thought was going to be different is the mesquite burger. But no. The burger was not special you can tell the meat was some store bought patty. Maybe a big box brand. But had no flavor. The burger did not condiment as in ketchup or mustard . The only reason it was not dry was because of the tomato and the grease on the cheese. As rare as the burger was it was dry pics included. Now for some of the plus sides of this Yes!!!! They have some really good rolls tasty and buttery with garlic seasoning on it. They are sooooo goood! With some ranch dressing to go with the roll OMG!!!! The reason this place got so many stars is because this review was redeemed by the rollls. Not saying all on here menu is alright. The other thing that surprised me was the cauliflower hot wings. They were good like really good. I was tricked into eating something healthy. Now the server made everything so much better. I haven’t laughed that hard. He was really positive. If you are having a bad day he would be my go to person to get cheered up. As soon as I remember the name I will post it I should written it in my notes.
I try to love this please but the bbq ribs are disappointing one more time, there ware not cocked enough, feel raw and cold. I order today after one year for the same problem. The staff are nice and polite but they need to put more attention on the food
My wife loved the beef ribs. My burger was awful. Ordered medium the first one was so overcooked and dry. They made me a new one and that one came out very much undercooked rare.
Service has gone down hill. Consistency in food has gone down hill. It is not the same restaurant that we used to love. It’s so sad. 3 stars because of the past and the odd occasion the meal is prepared as ordered and consistent to what we remember and loved. Disappointing.
First off, customer service here is above and beyond. Staff is very helpful and my food was cooked fast. We ordered a half order of babyback ribs and a petite tri tip order. Got 4 sides and 4 rolls, and we were on our way. Upon arriving home, I was a little disappointed that my ribs weren't soft but rather felt tough to eat and dry. I'm assuming on a weekday night they're not as busy, food probably seats there for a bit, but these were gocery store pre-cooked quality. The tri tip was decent. It had great flavor, but it wasn't soft and tender lile other bbq places. As a reference, I want to use Woodranch (same price, portion size, food presentation). As far as sides go, our mac n cheese was dry, and it felt old. Mash potatoes and all the other sides were great, including the garlic rolls. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but I was expecting a little bit more. Maybe next time I'll visit during lunch hour when the food is fresh.
First time visit to this place in Simi Valley California. Tried it and wasn’t over keen. Two stars for the service. The server was really nice and sweet (additional star) for Food served hot from the kitchen that we could see right into. No problem there really. It was very busy with takeaway, so obviously a lot of people do like the place. Unfortunately not myself or my hubs. We are BBQ fans and maybe it’s done differently on west coast, who knows?? Salads were good and garlic bread was served hot and fresh. Three different dishes ordered. Two combo and one beef rib. Chicken breast was tiny, thin and a bit dry so if you don’t mind bones get the half chicken instead. Same price, I believe. The bbq beans were not very nice either. Tasted more like ketchup than anything else. Although food served hot, it wasn’t for me. Average at best Surprised at how popular it was for the experience we had. Could have been better and definitely for the cost
Ordered to go, so chewy and fatty, I felt like I needed to check my dental insurance before the second bite.
I recently visited Red’s BBQ and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. To start on a positive note, the rolls were good—fresh and tasty. Our server, Meela, was also great. She was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. However, the food itself was a major letdown. We ordered the BBQ beef sandwiches, and the tri-tip was undercooked and extremely chewy. It was so tough that I couldn’t even finish the second half of my sandwich. On top of that, my wife found what appeared to be a raw potato in her coleslaw—it looked like an uncooked fry. That was definitely unexpected and not appetizing. Between the undercooked meat and the raw potato in the coleslaw, the quality just wasn’t there. Sadly, despite the good rolls and wonderful service from Meela, we won’t be returning.
