If I could give Dong Nai 10 stars, I would. It has the most delicious food. The most accommodating staff and the ambience is incredible. The portions are out of this world, the love in the food is abundant— eat here, just do it.
Really good Viet-Asian food with courteous severs and timely delivery of food from order to table! Only tried the combo pho and it was piping hot 🔥 and deliciously seasoned right, with no need for me to add any extra condiments! Will be back for banh mis, spring rolls, rice platters and your other traditional Viet-Asian cuisine!!!
Dong Nai is the spot! A hidden gem in Austin, serving delicious and authentic Vietnamese food. I discovered this establishment on New Year’s Day, when my usual go-to Vietnamese restaurants were closed. And I’m so glad they were, leading me to this spot! The interior design of this restaurant has a “Mom and Pop” feel to it, and the food is absolutely amazing. I ordered the “Beef Rib” Pho (Absolutely amazing and highly recommend) and Pork Fried Egg Rolls. Both were authentic and absolutely mouth-watering delicious! This is the high quality caliber of Vietnamese food I am accustomed to growing up in Southern California. Absolutely recommend this place to all my Pho Lovers. Friendly and timely service. This place needs to be rated much higher than it is!
Great food. Fresh veggies. Friendly and attentive service. We’ve had the pho, the special and the grilled chicken with rice. Very ver good. A big shout out of appreciation to the Vietnamese pork egg rolls. It comes with 6 pieces with thin wrapper layers that I believe is rice flour. Something different and well made. It came with fresh lettuce, shredded carrots, mixed spring greens and sprouts. A must try!
Me and my bf try out the pho called (PHO DONG NAI) yes that’s what is named after the restaurant, let me tell you, it was sooo yummy and very flavorful, they added egg in it, that’s was fun surprise. The broth’s depth of flavor was an overwhelming cornucopia, boggled the mind and baffled the senses, the umami!
This place is so good! The service was good and the food came out SO quick! We came on a Friday night and it was pretty busy! The Pho was so flavorful with the perfect ratio of noodles and meat! We also had the Pork Belly bao and it was delicious! 100% will be coming back as this is our new favorite spot!
They just changed the menu. Super authentic. Definitely get the Canh Chua (needs 20min so bring a card game), ca kho to if you want something authentic and what viet people usually eat at home. The Banh mi is actually good - the right length, right fillings. Before this, I was t a huge fan because it looked like they catered too much to American tastebuds but now? The menu is what brings me back.
One of very few places I've visited in any number of cities that has chinese broccoli! Deliciously prepared, not over cooked or undercooked, with just the right amount of bite to it without being raw. Their fried pork spring rolls are amazing. I also got their pepper calamari and pepper shrimp, both of which were very tasty, but could have been a bit spicier, but that's just my preference. Very clean place, decent prices, and prompt service! I placed the order for pickup at 715, and it was ready before I arrived at 715. The food was enough to feed several people with enough for left overs, the experience of ordering was painless, easy, and with no wait when I arrived to pick up the food, I couldn't ask for much more. Great little place!
Ate at Dong Nai in Austin about an hour before closing, and there were still plenty of guests dining in. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. There’s a great variety of dishes to choose from, and everything tasted fresh and home-style, which I love. The wings were so good omg. The salt and pepper calamari also 10/10. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their dishes!!
My friend and I originally wanted to go to a different restaurant today, but they were closed so I found this place on google. Let me tell you we were not disappointed at all! The portions were massive (neither of us finished our food), the Thai tea wasn’t overly sweet which I loved, the food was delicious, and the staff was quick and attentive! We got 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 Thai teas for around $60 total! We will definitely be back!
Had an amazing bowl of pho here. I ordered the Dong Nai special which came with tender brisket, filet, and a perfectly cooked soy marinated egg. LOVED. The broth is legit! You know it comes down to the flavor of the pho broth and theirs is authentic and very tasty. They have gluten free egg rolls!! Rice paper like traditional egg rolls and they separate pork from shrimp which is really nice for people who cannot eat both. The service was good too. Will be returning (today lol). Yum!
Got the Dong Nai pho and it was amazing. So were the brisket bao buns. Second best pho I've had in Austin. Very affordable, super fresh, ready very quickly. Broth is really good and it's more geared towards Austin folks who like beef more than spices, but still has a good spice blend. Service was fast and friendly. Will be coming back again and recommending to friends. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you are nearby!
Food is definitely above average, not the best, but it's good enough to recommend. I enjoyed my meal. Very fresh ingredients. Fresh spring rolls and vermicelli. Good portion of protein, veggies and noodles. Equalized. The vermicelli and order of springs rolls, water and tip came to about $20 and some change. I was very full.
I can’t believe we hadn’t been here until recently. And then when we went once, we came back later in the week. It’s an easy meal when you’re looking for a quick lunch/dinner. The vegan pho is packed with veggies and vegan meat, it’s a hefty bowl and the broth was delicious. I was so impressed with the salt and pepper tofu, it’s fire. Soooo crispy, crunchy, soft inside, and perfectly salty. Recommend the eggplant with chili garlic, sweet and savory, comes with bamboo shoots too. Buddhas delight was a good balance but I wouldn’t order it again when I know their other dishes are much better. Around $15-20 a dish.
Food here was excellent! Every dish we tried surpassed the previous one. We started off with Vietnamese coffee which was perfection. The fried dumplings were fresh and hot. I had the Buddha pho which was perfect. The portion size was HUGEEE! I ate it for three meals. My husband had the tofu banh mi and he was saying that if they can make tofu taste this good, this chef can achieve anything! Seriously the tofu was so flavorful and SOOO good. Finally we split a tofu bao amongst us and man, we could just eat six plates of that for a meal. Soft pillowy bao’s with delicious ample filling. 10/10. Their vegan/vegetarian options were aplenty and man we can’t wait to try them all. The portion sizes for the pricing is very very generous. We’re so glad to have discovered this place and can’t wait to come back and discover more.
I wanted to like this place bc I heard it was affordable on Reddit. Unfortunately when I got there the bahn mi prices had been raised by almost 30% even though the menu pic with prices had been uploaded only 7 months ago 🥲 I guess that’s the price for quality. I wouldn’t have minded if the waitress hadn’t laughed at us for having questions about the menu, and then another server came up to tell me i was the first female he had seen who finished the 15(?) inch bahn mi😭. I feel like that means I should have got it for free? It was very good tho. Will probably go back and try to save room for the mango sticky rice. Sorry for being a fat American
I'm not a sandwich person, but have to admit that Dong Nai's shrimp Bahn Mi was outstanding. The bread was crispy and hot. It was sweet and fresh, filled with a whole bunch of crispy shrimp. It was as long as my forearm, and large enough for two. We shared the crispy pepper calamari, egg-drop soup, and the shrimp vermicelli. All these were decent. The wide array of $6 glasses of wine can't be beat. The staff were very attentive and nice. This restaurant was nothing fancy but definitely worth another visit in the near future...
After waiting for half an hour for a different restaurant, we decided to give this place a try. We were able to be seated right away which was very nice. It’s a simple restaurant that has some good Vietnamese food. The service here was great and so was the food. If you are looking for a casual bite in Austin, this is a good place to check out.
This food taste so good and decently priced. The only problem is that they don’t give you much. We got the drunken beef and got maybe 8 small pieces of beef. They also give you less than a cup of rice for each meal and charge $2 for extra rice (even though it’s not even a cup full). They don’t let you make substitutes for fried rice so you have to get white rice. We got the curry chicken which was really good and the combination pad Thai was just okay. I really like the food but it’s just not much and each time I’ve placed an order they always take a very long time.
recently visited Dong Nai Restaurant, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing overall. When we arrived, there was a long wait even though many tables were available. The issue seemed to be that tables were not properly cleaned after customers left. After finally being seated, it took about 10–15 minutes before anyone came to serve our table. The service was very poor throughout the visit. Our appetizer arrived cold even though it was supposed to be steamed, and the chicken bao barely had any filling — just one small piece of chicken that you could hardly taste. We also ordered hot tea that never arrived, and our server never checked back to see if we received it. The pho was honestly the best part of the meal. The beef pho was excellent and full of flavor. However, when we ordered egg soup and orange chicken to go, the server forgot to place that order as well. Overall, if you’re coming only for good pho, this place may work for you. But the service needs major improvement. There were no napkins on the table and we had to ask multiple times to get some. The sauce bottles were also very dirty, which did not feel sanitary or safe to use.
