Louies Backyard in South Padre Island is a fun spot for the whole family! Even with the crowds, the staff was efficient and the food was delicious. The live music added to the vibrant, beachside atmosphere — perfect for relaxing or dancing in the sand. Plenty of parking available for $20 a day, but keep in mind there’s no re-entry without paying again. Overall, a great location to enjoy the beach, music, and good vibes! Enjoyed the fire works @ 9pm

This is split up into a few areas, there is an outdoor eating area where there is live music from time to time (there was when we were there), and an indoor area where they have the all you can eat seafood buffet. This is the reason we went. The buffet is amazing with quite the variety of food to choose from. We had a coupon from a local tourist information booklet that told recommended the buffet. They were right, it was incredible!!! There is a small gift shop on the way out to get a souvenir shirt, mug, magnet, or other items.

Had their all you can eat seafood buffet. It was amazing. Snow crab, shrimp (several different ways), prime rib with fresh horseradish, ribs, fish ( grilled or deep fried). I eat two plates, one with snow crab and prime rib, and one with snow crab and ribs. Wife, not a seafood person, had a prime rib sandwich and could only eat half of it. Well worth the price, based on market price.

Even though I’ve been going to SPI for years it was my first time eating at the beach. I looked for places nearby, couple of research I finally chose this place because it was recommended by a friend of mine. It did not disappoint.! My first requirement when I asked my friends for recommendations was “I want to eat next to the ocean” This place has a beautiful view either on first or 2nd floor. It was a partly cloudy day and around sunset, it was stunning! The food was also good. I would like to point out for the first floor there’s a menu and the 2nd floor is another type of menu. I went with family so I chose the first floor. They mentioned second floor is mostly appetizers and drinks. They do have a salad bar, several things to. choose from, salads, cold salads, different type of shrimp, fresh fruit, etc. All plates we got were good portion, good flavor. Service was good. Try it out! I recommend this place 👌

The service was pretty good. I asked for another drink and never got it. When we asked her about it later on she had no idea what we were talking about. I never even got a water. I was so thirsty. The crab legs were delicious! The buffet is a good deal. The place is really dated, but it works. It's a great place to watch the sunset.

Louie’s Backyard offers a great dining experience with delicious food and strong, flavorful cocktails. The outdoor seating provides a stunning view of the water and South Padre Island’s beautiful scenery. While they don’t serve crab legs or garlic potatoes before buffet hours, the rest of the menu did not disappoint. We visited as a large group, and although one meal took so long to arrive that most of us had already finished eating, the staff remained friendly. An unexpected bit of entertainment came when a bold bird swooped down and stole a fry right off a plate! Overall, we truly enjoyed the relaxed, waterfront atmosphere and would visit again for the views alone.

Mid experience. Expensive but not worth it. Ordered the salmon and sautéed veggies on the side & the veggies were very mid, should’ve just tried the mashed potatoes. Went on a Friday at 8pm and the 1st floor was dead/empty yet food took a while to come out. Live music was loud but sucked tbh… couldn’t have a conversation with how loud it was. Only upside is we got a free firework show from the neighbors. Wouldn’t be back. Server Chris was sweet.

Came there last night for our 43rd wedding anniversary. Very disappointed with the staff last night we have been several times and this was by far the most unpleasant experience. We were seated and then proceeded to wait 10 minutes and a young man came over to us after we flagged him down he was very nice and in training. He took our order. We waited quite a bit of time for our drinks. The buffet was not quite up tothe standard it has been. Shrimp , mushy, or tough. Crab legs were very good, prime rib was very goodStill very good. But the people down there at the buffet did not even look happy to be there at their job! At one point my husband got his own mac and cheese because the gentleman had his back turned to him for so long. Hopefully this was just a bad night, just a little disappointed because not many smiles going on! Still enjoyed our dinner blessings to all of you!

This is a massive restaurant. Plenty of seating for our large family of 14. We were seated right away. Food was good. They are known for their seafood buffet. I was slightly disappointed that the buffet didn’t include lines on both sides. When the place was busy, you’ll have to wait a while in the buffet line. Limited salad bar. Need to organize that area better.

Lured by the west facing outdoor patio, we came for dinner hoping to dine during the sunset. The setting sunlight was a bit too harsh for us, so we moved inside. Other customers seemed fine outside. Inside had the dinner buffet which won us over because of the variety of food they offered, especially the steamed crab which is my son’s favorite. Ultimately, the food was a bit disappointing. Everything was over cooked. Prime rib was basically well done and shredded when cutting it. The pork ribs were pretty dry and leaned heavily on the sauce. The crab meat was stuck to the shells, which is fine just usually shredded and harder to peel. The mac and cheese beshumel was a bit grainy. My favorite food items were the sausage and baked fish. Our waitress was very nice trying to accommodate our friend who is vegetarian. The servers behind the buffet seemed a bit more moody basically throwing food on our plates. Maybe it’s just an off day. We all have them. The buffet itself was crammed in a corner with the protein in the back most corner which felt like a trap when other people were crowded behind you waiting for service. $33/adult and $15/child for buffet.

Our waitress was excellent and kept checking back in on us and the live music was very good. However, the buffet left a lot to be desired. The baked fish was overcooked, the vegetables were undercooked (to balance things out), the roast was so-so. The shrimp scampi was bland at best. The corn and sausage was ok. For the money, there are better options on the island. The birds were also ever present, looking at us as if they were miffed or incredulous that we were not feeding them.

Only reason I am giving two stars for food is because the chocolate cake is amazing. I ordered prime rib and it was served well done (should be mid rare) took server 15+ minutes to check on us and by that time I didn't want another and told the server this. After 15+ more minutes she brought me a new one. I again said I didn't want another. My dad ordered salmon and said it was very dry. Chocolate cake was amazing and huge otherwise overall I was disappointed.

We had never been here We took my spouse for his bday last night, price was reasonable, $35 for buffet. Waitress was nice. The food though...the fried shrimp was good, but the crab legs were tasteless and cold, ita fine. The ONLY problem we encountered was the guy serving the food at the buffet, SO RUDE. He was the older man with gray hair. No smile and he looked SUPER BOTHERED when we would go and ask for more. He would serve us one crab leg cluster, which were thin and like 2 fried shrimp. I mean, we are paying 35 a person. Very bad experience just ALONE with him. Even the other gentleman w black hair serving noticed the rudeness in that man. The business should switched his position and out him in the back, very bad service In his part.

I have never felt the need to post a restaurant reveiw but this place is so bad, DO NOT waste your money here. There are so many other great choices for food in south padre. Made mistake of making new years reservations. The crab legs were cold, they had run out of shell crackers so attempted to break what we got open with our silverware. They completely overbooked what their cooks or servers could provide. They had run out of crab legs on return to buffet, managed to get last peice of prime rib, but no crab or even baked potatoes for the baked potato bar. We came early for our 730 pm reservation. I feel sorry for the people who paid 45 bucks each and got nothing they wanted as there were several. Buffet line was long and slow and people were only getting whatever cook brought out at the moment as buffet was empty, not exactly the advertised buffet. We were half done with our meal before we got drinks. Our server was also the bartender for all the wait staff on the lower level. So she was mixing all the drinks for all the wait staff and trying to serve tables. Not completely her fault, an impossible task. All the staff looked unhappy, and overwhelmed. They advertised a party with champagne, party favors, etc. Was literally no entertainment on lower level, the party favors and champagne were on the bar, with no one to serve them. We could not see fireworks from our table as was blocked by the stage wall which no one was on. Was blind sided by the bill not only was there an 18 percent gratuity added on for little to no service but an additional service charge equal to the gratuity for what? So basically almost a 40 percent up charge by the time we paid with credit card instead of cash? Dessert was also extra, the death by chocolate cake was good, but we would never have ordered had there been anything on the buffet. We come yearly to padre and this is our 3rd attempt to give this place a chance, never again. Go somewhere the gratuity is based on the quality of the food and service. Every other bar in district had some type of entertainment. Literally nothing on new years eve? We went back to hotel after fireworks for drinks as was never going to happen here?

Experience was not the best, food was okay, service was horrible, ants in our drinks, no apologies for it, the buffet line well let's just say cafeterias lunch lady and not the nice one. It seemed we were a bother to them, definitely will not go back, is seemed like a cool place😢
