Always good food here. Wait is long but worth it.
Long wait but it worth it. Great fresh food
I just went to the one on Hillside and the service was bad!! Had to come over here. It was a better experience. Good food but unfortunately they didn’t produce the patties I was looking for
Not a place to dine in. But it's a Caribbean home cooked-style of foods and great caribbean snack options that leaves a Nostalgic taste in your mouth. Food is great. We got a bunch of options on our long drive back to Canada. It was good. But be prepared to wait in line an extra 30 mins before getting your food. Lol
Great place to find guyanese food. Good customer service. A place you must visit.
What can i say.. sybils is one of the longest running guayanese food places serving up all kinds of original guyanese foods. Their pastries are the best. Jamaican beef patties, guyanese beef patties are to die for with flaky buttery crust are just a few of the goodies they serve. They also have a full line of cooked curries and dhall puri , oil roti, and other staple foods of the country. Cheese rolls and cheese straws are delicious. Fish cakes , cassava eggball, and feeshly baked every day along with fresh gt bread and tennis rolls.. too much to list. Go and try for yourself..wont be disappointed.. also carry a full line of West indian beverages, including real bottled coconut water.. been coming here since the 90s when I first came to america. If you like Guyanese food. This is the place to start.
The food has always been good 👍 I recommend everyone to visit, you won't regret it.
The guyanese chicken patties and all the caribbean desserts are always fresh. The wait can be long sometimes which is a known thing but the staff is quick, organized and efficient on taking the orders.
All the food is delicious! The only problem it's extremely difficult to find a parking spot it almost impossible
I order from them through Uber Eats more frequently than I should (delivery fees, etc), and they always get my order right and the food is ALWAYS FRESH. The pastries are amazing amazing and the chicken plates are very flavorful! If you’re reading this, stop and go drive over there now!
The service here was very friendly and helpful. I’ve never had Guyanese food before and the woman behind the counter took time to recommend and explain a few things despite there being a decent amount of other customers. And of course the food was delicious. The Jamaican chicken patty was amazing, as was the Guyanese chicken patty. I also tried some sort of cheese quiche thing and it was excellent- recommended by the aforementioned friendly woman working there. Highly recommended!
Great curry food. Had the chicken roti and brought some for my family members. We all loved it. Good customer service.
Amazing as always but please have a sign on no doubles 9am, thank you.
What do you do when you lose 56 lb? You go to Sybil's and treat yourself. This (take out only) restaurant is top of the line authentic Guyanese food. It's hot & fresh. It's a staple in the community and has been here for years. I also had a vegetable roti which is not seen here. Do not, I repeat do not go there hungry. You will buy the entire menu. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. Photos: pineapple puff, pholourie, drink sorrel
I got the curry chicken and all I can say is WHEW! When I tell you, it was spicy, it was spicy! I wasn’t expecting it to be so spicy but it was. It was still delicious, nonetheless. I also got a Guyanese beef patty, plain roti, and dhal puri, everything was delicious. Will definitely be going back and trying something else.
Visited two weeks ago I was excited for their huge selection of delicious foods and baked goods, grab some pineapple tarts the Patties are so good. Definitely a must stop if you’re in Richmond area, It’s a super popular local spot so be mindful it will get packed ! Ordering is simple you pick a number and wait to get called up to place your order.
Note that this place is takeout only. I ordered a bunch of things. Goat curry (came with dal roti; very good), pineapple tart (very good), cheese roll (decent but wouldn't order again), tennis roll (def wouldn't order again cause it's just a plain bread roll, not worth the carbs), cassava pone (pretty good, not amazing; is filling so could share between 2 or 3ppl for dessert), and the Guyanese beef patty (very good, would order again).
Came here to try Guyanese food for the first time. I got some doubles, chicken and beef patties and my friend got curry chicken and roti with some dessert items that I got to try. They also have an excellent selection of sodas and juices in the fridge. Great value, taste, and super filling. I’d absolutely come back.
Sybils is one of the best restaurants in New York, and I make sure to visit every time I’m in the city. They’re one of the only places that sell the original Guyanese patties — the real ones I grew up with. Not the soft, floury, yellow-looking versions that some places offer, but the authentic, firm, flavorful patties that remind me of home. This is the only spot where I can get the true taste of Guyana, and that’s why I keep going back. The food is always enjoyable, and I recommend them 100% to anyone looking for genuine Guyanese flavor. Whenever I visit New York, I eat there until I can’t anymore — and I still make sure to take some patties back home with me.
Where do I start with Sybil’s? Do I begin with my childhood in the ’90s, tasting their incredible baked goods like tennis rolls, Guyanese patties, the end piece of the pone (my mom’s favorite!), and those unforgettable pine tarts? Or should I talk about the late nights traveling from Crown Heights to their Church Avenue location in Flatbush, only to find they were closed, or the food runs in the afternoons and late nights through rough, rural parts? My mom made sure her kids knew our culture through its food, and that tradition has definitely been passed down. Now, as an adult, I’m still coming to Sybil’s restaurant. The food and bakery still have that same delicious taste. I’ve been coming to this location for some time now, and I’m no stranger—their baked goods and food remain top-tier. Every time I visit, I see women my mom’s age shopping here at all hours of the day, which shows that Sybil’s is a staple in the Guyanese community. I lean more on the American side, but coming here brings back an array of childhood memories, culture, and amazing food. Ps- it can get super busy at times!
Please give Ashley a raise, she has good customer service and was very friendly. Hired more people like her. I called and ordered and then add food to my order ,when I got there and it was not a problem for Ashley . Thank you Ashley ❤️
On behalf of The Center for the Women of New York, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Sybil’s for their ongoing generosity and support of our Taste of the World at Fort Totten gala. Once again, they donated their delicious chicken patties, which have become a beloved staple at our event. The chicken patties were perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. Their consistency and quality never disappoint, and it’s clear that Sybil’s takes great pride in their food. Our guests always look forward to enjoying these savory treats, and this year was no exception. We deeply appreciate Sybil’s continued commitment to giving back to the community. It’s because of dedicated local businesses like theirs that we can raise essential funds to support women across New York. Their unwavering support makes a meaningful difference, and it’s why we’re proud to highlight and recommend them. Thank you, Sybil’s, for your kindness, reliability, and outstanding contributions. We’re already looking forward to next year!
Sybil’s is the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more! The pastries are the real stars here flaky, flavorful, and baked to perfection. Whether it’s a patty that melts in your mouth or one of their sweet treats that hits the spot, every bite feels like comfort and joy. The staff deserve a shoutout too always polite, courteous, and genuinely kind. You can tell they care about giving you a good experience, and that makes all the difference. Pro tip: if you’re on the go, order ahead and pick up. It’s quick, easy, and means you get your goodies without the wait. Best part? The prices are affordable, so you can treat yourself without feeling guilty. Great food, great people, and great vibes Sybil’s really is a neighborhood gem!
Talk about curry? Yea this is the place!! Great authentic Guyanese cuisine. Great portions, and if you don’t like spice then don’t go, the curry will explode them taste buds. The more you eat the more you feel it, I went around 7-8pm there was a wait. My number was 21 and they were only on 12 which is expected with great food. Would definitely go again. Can’t forget GREAT FRIENDLY SERVICE.
Great place to come for authentic Guyanese delicacy.great variety of everything/ every kind of food and snacks you can think of having from Guyana . Just com here you won’t be disappointed. Very fresh and delicious food . Also they have all kinds of drinks you can think of that you miss having back home you can find it here. It’s always busy here because people just enjoy the culture and the food and the drinks. When you go in you take a ticket that has a number on it and just wait for your number to be called and then go order prices are good too . There is also parking infront but just pay the meter before going inside. Very delicious would definitely come back when I’m in the area great food
I ordered Cassava Pone, love how they make it, I was craving it. I've had their version of Jamaican Beef Patties, it's decent. I tried their Cheese Roll, it was just okay for me, I was expecting to taste more of a cheese consistency. Bake & Saltfish was good. The bread/bake was soft & the saltfish was seasoned right. One of my favorite thing to eat is Doubles. I liked it. Maybe next time I'll try their version of Roti.
I finally ordered some food here after seeing the lines outside the door for years. The food is good, pricing is fair. Its not worth waiting in line for me. I've tasted better curry but I won't hesitate to order from there if I have to. Good selection of dishes.
Their food is good but if you like spicy food it's great. I don't care for spicy food, but I'll so addicted to this place I deal with the spice. I love the number system it keeps everyone in order. The servers are quick. If they could tone down the spice, oh my God, I will eat here every day.
Good tasting food and snacks especially when you're missing the Caribbean flavour. Double check your orders when you collect as it's so busy in there most times and the girls, who do a fantastic job to serve quickly and maintain a friendly environment, might just miss something. PRO TIP: Call ahead if you can!
First time there. Friday Sept 12 2025 Food was EXCEPTIONAL I HAD OXTAILS. RICE AND PEAS.....I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK
Visiting from Australia( only Guyanese living downunder..hahaha), saw Sybil's Bakery on Utube and endeavoured to check it out when I got the opportunity. So, was taken by dear family friends and bought most of the items I have been longing for: Guyanese Beef patties, pineapple tarts, tennis rolls, ( gotta go back to get Cassava pone,Peanut punch )!!!. I saw the trays of cooked foods waiting to be had,,,but I had already eaten). Thanks to Mignon and her son Lee for taking me there.
One of the best places for West Indian foods. We came here before but were too busy eating so couldn't do the review - so came back to get more delicious food and finally doing the review. The food was amazing and their service was great. We put the order ahead of time and by the time we got there my package was ready! They were nice and professional. They don't have a place to sit - only take out. A must go-to restaurant for mouthwatering food and dessert.
Service was good. But the downfall was the food. I been wanting some Chowmein and I found it to be dry n bland. Next, order was the roti w goat not enough food for the price. Gave me big potatoes then meat. Pepper pot wasn’t giving flava or heat. I am disappointed thought this would take me back to my childhood. Overall their bakery goods are the best thing there.
Their roti is full of ghee and so is the dhal puri...it gets so hard in the fridge...this can't be healthy
Went there 3 times to buy food in my lunch break and unfortunately never got the food. Actually never even get to order, that's how big is the line and also line is not even organized, people can skip you and you wouldn't even tell. Food must be so good that's why all the crowd but they do have pickup option but last time I called around 8pm they said phone order closed so I'm assuming they close that early. As a suggestion I will recommend have 2 different line one for bakery and one for cuisine. Place is not very big so it's get ready crowded even only 10 people inside. Will try again.
The waitress finished my sentence in her head and never confirm or wrote anything down. No pepper and all Ii got was heavy pepper
Bought a large Chicken chownein and a couple of fish cakes. The Chowmein was not that great. It didnt have flavor and was a little too salty. The Fish cakes unfortunately were no better. They were hard, fat and tasteless.. .Too many fillers! I have to say for the amount of people, the small area, and the noise level, the ladies behond the counter do a great job of staying focused and meeting everyone's needs/orders. Thank you ladies!!
On 10/14/24 at 4 :15 pm ..I call several times to place an order on the phone, but wasn't getting through .The last try, the person taking orders pick up and said hold . I was on hold for over 15 minutes . I got to the shop, approached and confronted her that she put me on hold ,also showed her the amount of time I call and the amount of minutes she have me on hold. I ask her to please take my order. She responded, and said it's not her . I said but are you not the one working in this station taking orders . She responded with unnecessary attitude.. and lastly said to me you better take a ticket because I'm not going to help you. I walked away, took the ticket and waited. After a few minutes another customer came in to her and was speaking of the same situation I had on the phone .To my surprise she took the oder from that customer . Questions are running through my head now, Should I be harsh, loud and cause a scene in order to have a good service provided? Was she being racist because I'm a different race? Or is it because I'm a woman? I'm very confused and disappointed with the service, that was very much uncalled for. I'm a customer and should be treated as such. Sybil's Please look into this and finding some solutions so customers won't be struggling to place orders . Also a better service definitely needed here.
3/20/21. CoVid made this place worst. Long wait lines. No phone or customer service. Super slow service. It's like they don't care..... Don't forget to take a number at the door. Crowded. Long wait times, especially during the weekend. Don't mind the West Indian peeps blocking the counter despite their number not called yet. With that said, the food is worth the wait and Sybil's has remained one of the best places for food in the area.
No parking . Line for service is a mile long. The wait was definitely not worth it for me. All I wanted was their black cake. I am used to a homemade black cake baked with love and representation of Guyanese culture and pride. The one I purchased was not it. Disappointed to say the least.
I've heard good things about this restaurant so I decided to try it , so I ordered 4 doubles and boy oh boy was I upset when I got to the car!! Curry channa and fried bake and it didn't even taste good and I bought 4 !! Why make a dish for the Caribbean community if it's not to be made like that, that is not doubles . Now maybe their other food is good but I drove a long way just to get the doubles and was utterly, highly disappointed 😔☹️
Food Was Not As Expected Or How I Know It To Taste.... My Channa Was Hard And On The Way To Sour.... My Fishcake Was Chewy.... Only Thing I Enjoyed Was My Egg Ball.... Return The Original Chef Or Change Back The Recipe.... All The Money I Spent And Didn't Enjoy Anything But A Eggball....
Food is usually very good.. it's chaotic figuring out where to order. Very frustrating. Better to order ahead and pick up.
I’ve been going here for years, the food still tastes good. They just didn’t give that much food for the price I payed ($50). It was a pickup order so I assume that why they didn’t fill the bowls. It was still 2 and a half hours before closing so I don’t think that’s why the bowls were empty.
After seeing viral pastries I tracked the location to this establishment. Oh my what a waste of time and energy. As I entered I waited behind the line, I was not greeted nor even recognized by staff only stares of uncertainty. I walked to the other side to ask if I order here, one woman just pointed to the same side I came from. So I continued to wait and watched as new customers were served and I waited looking lost until a kind patron told me I needed a number. Staff was rude and unprofessional. Need customer service training
I just left sybils and the worst food ever, i got 2 bake and salt fish with a doubles. Poor quality of salt fish and poor quantity, hardly any salt fish in the bake and charging $7.00 dollars for one. The channa in the doubles is so hard and no taste . Never going back there ever again. I call them and all they can say is sorry . Do better sybils, the quality has gone down over the years..
🚨‼️Be very careful with this place there stealing your credit card information and using it for such a big name and place where a lot of ppl buy from them they need to be investigated for this matter it was 2 occasions they stole the information and when u call them to let them know they have nothing to say this matter will be reported !!!! Don’t recommend buying anything from them unless you’re using cash. They also have the credit card machine behind the counter they want u to hand them the card why is it not at the counter ‼️
I was there last Sunday and its the last time i will ever go there. They have no structure where you wait in line after taking your number. Then when its your turn everyone and their mother is coming and cutting in front of you when its your turn to be served.I voiced my disgust and they were like thanks for the suggestion and a bitter Queens rat said they should spit in my food.I instantly lost my appetite and i gave my food to a homeless man as i don't want to eat negativity.FYI SYBILS the reason i came there is not because you have the best food but because its identifying with Guyana.Nothing personal just business and i will take my dollar where its appreciated.
The ordering experience online is horrible. There are limited menu options compared to other places, like thriving. The menu options here are very limited and illogical. But the main issue is the food quality, and it's bad. The chicken is dry and bland; it's lacking seasoning; and the fried rice is a joke. It's like someone just did it fast with no thought or skill, so it's bad. And the prices are unreasonable when ordering online. I do like the presentation of the delivery, but that's all that was good about this place overall. I give it a 0/5 star rating; it needs major improvements. I will not be getting anything from here again. It was my first time trying this place, and it was very disappointing. Trash food and low quality service 🤦♂️
My husband bought chicken curry and goat curry and let me tell you,it was horrible!!! I’m very disappointed. I thought it was be very tasty and flavorful but I got the opposite of that. And the worst part is,they didn’t even used farm chicken,it was supermarket chicken,as I bite into it,I knew right away, the pastries are the only thing that’s good there, otherwise than that it’s a big NO.
Overpriced tasteless junk food really. The salt fish and bake was tasteless that even pepper sauce can’t rescue. The bake was a sugary buns and not a true bake. This place is killing out the Guyanese community in Richmond Hill one stroke or heart attack at a time.
These Jamaican beef patties I bought from Sybil’s at 132-17 Liberty Avenue Richmond Hill Queens NY is not good for human consumption it’s dry, hard, overcooked and burnt. I’m so disappointed with their standard getting lower and lower every time I visit there. It’s seems as their only concern is money and not what they’re serving to customers. They should be ashamed to sell something like this.
You guys have no regard for customer service. You need someone to take phone inquires. You all screwed up my order and I called to make sure this doesn't happen but I couldn't even get through to the store. This is so easy and you guys cant get it right ever. It's very dunce the way you all manage it and it shows a lot about the staff and owner. Needs way more training if not then you will never be what you all want to be
Bakery products are delightful! However, the Phoulourie is quite disappointing; it is truly unfortunate! Yet, when that is the sole establishment available at 9:38 PM, one must take a chance..
The veg fried rice was stupid spicy. My mouth was on fire. Who makes veg fried rice spicy? They forget items so make sure you check.
I went here from Long Island for some beef patties. They used to have wonder West Indian beef patties. Now I ordered the other day and received Tower Island patties, both beef and curry chicken. It even had the tower logo stamped on it. I'm so disappointed in this place. I'll save my beef patty cravings for Kingston Bakery in the Bronx.
My first and last time going here. The food was very disappointing and frankly a bit over priced. I don't usually leave reviews but this was upsetting. I ordered a curry goat roti with some chickpeas. The chick peas were 3 dollars extra which is odd in my opinion because its been an included addition at other restaurants. More than half the dish was chick peas (It's supposed to be an addition not the whole dish) and maybe, 4-5 small (and I mean small) pieces of actual meat, there were quite a few big bones. I basically paid 18 dollars for curry chickpeas and roti bread.
My husband and I ordered Phlourie, and GT beef patties from Sybil’s on Ubereats. The mango sour smelled frowsy, and the phlourie was hard, worst yet the GT beef patties we ordered was replaced with Jamaican Beef patties. I know what I ordered, this is not the first time they are messing up our order, but it will definitely be the last time my husband and I will be ordering from Sybil’s because you’re standards have dropped.
Waited awhile worst order taking system . Ordered the oxtail , tipped 38% . Got home in the city , 3 pieces of bone only no meat less than 5% and it was fat . Spinach rice was hardened dry . My sister recommended this spot . I think very overrated shameful the dude plating would pull a stunt like that . What a waste! got off the horrible jfk expressway to try this spot and a huge regret ! Never again
I waited forever just for them to call my number, an absolute ridiculous amount of time to take simple orders. They have so much people working and they take so long! The place is packed to the point of chaos yet there’s zero organization. The people taking orders look completely lost and moving slow as hell with no sense of urgency. By the time I got my food the experience was already ruined and this isn’t my first time coming here. Everything was just salty like someone dumped a shaker on it to cover up the lack of quality. This place desperately needs to better their management style, better organization, and faster service. I don’t have time to wait around for hours to call my damn number.
I ordered a large chowmein through Uber Eats, with channa as a side. With the high cost of food, I was given HALF of the container with channa. I paid for a LARGE chowmein. This is deceptive behavior. Do not buy from there. I didn't order a small chowmein. In essence, that's exactly what they did, served a small. I feel robbed. It is very likely that this is a steady practice. Do not spend your money there!
Honestly I didn't see or feel the hype about this place. Lines were not really long, they had a take a number routine, which was good. But it was slow, by the time I was called I lost my appetite. I didn't get what I originally wanted because I felt rushed while ordering. Pastries was on the very expensive side. I definitely would not return. Especially driving from jersey I'll pass to Singhs.
