After several days of dining disappointments across Port of Spain, searching in vain for that elusive “wow factor,” I finally discovered Meena House – and what an extraordinary find it has proven to be. My first visit began with the prawn platter, which set an impressive standard, but it was the goat curry with paratha that truly transported me. The dish was nothing short of exceptional – a beautiful harmony of flavors executed with remarkable finesse. The experience was so memorable that I returned the very next day, then again the day after that. Indeed, I’ve dined here twice already, would have made it three consecutive days had they not been closed Monday, and I’m returning again this evening. For the duration of my stay, Meena House has become my culinary anchor. Yes, the prices lean toward the higher end, but every dollar is justified. This isn’t merely about the food, though the cuisine is outstanding. It’s the complete experience: the thoughtful presentation, the inviting ambiance, the genuine hospitality, and the attentive service staff. Every element works in concert to create something truly special. Meena House isn’t just an Indian restaurant – it’s the dining experience I’d been hoping to find. Unreservedly recommended.
Outstanding food and service at the beautiful Meena House. As an Indian family we have very high standards for Indian cooking - Umesh and the team absolutely nailed it. Mary and Pratik really looked after us too with a lovely manner and genuine attention to detail. This is the only Indian restaurant in the world that were not phased in the slightest by my garlic intolerance and catered every dish for me. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Highlights were the papad basket, the kovalam pepper chicken, nariyal shrimp and the Kashmiri saffron, figs and cardamom homemade gelato. Make sure you leave space for dessert!
The food was delicious! Authentic Indian food that can only be found in Trinidad and Tobago. It was nice to have a security guard direct us and escort us to our parking area. The same security guard was also there when we exited the restaurant. We try a variety of items on their menu and our children also and enjoyed the experience. They also have live music. The food is excellent !
We had an extremely enjoyable experience. My wife and friends had dinner, and the food was delicious. The Mango Lassie was one of the winners. Ajay, our server, treated us with great respect and excellent service...very humble young man. We also enjoyed some beautiful violin from the amazing violinist, David Frank...
Top of the line, flavorful cuisine. Food took a while to appear but it was worth the wait. My only disappointment was the dessert. It fell short of my high expectations after such a sumptuous meal.
You want an upscale date night for you and hubby. Definitely go here. The food was amazing!!!!
I recommend for best indian cuisine in carribeans. Authentic indian food and drinks. Alway recommend to visit once in port of spain
Food was good and tasty. Authentic Indian food and I am from Pakistan so I was impressed. Service was slow, they took forever to clear our table and give us our drinks and the bill. They overcharged us on the bill so we had to tell them to rectify this. Would recommend but it is quite expensive. Would recommend the rack of lamb and lobster.
Did some whiskey tasting/pairing. 2 whiskeys from India, 2 from Scotland, 1 from Japan. Paired with some fantastic tapas, this was just awesome. Don't forget the live violinist.... excellent add on to this experience
The Meena House is the epitome of elegance and classy dining. The service is magnificent, the staff is extremely pleasant and efficient. The ambience is amazing. Will definitely visit again and recommend.
Hands down the best Indian Restaurant I have been to. A unique experience with bold flavors, textures and a overall great experience. Many unique menu items, the specialty naans are a must try (we ordered the Kahara and Shyamli naans, both with squid ink). Great use of local ingredients in the seafood dishes and the dal and chicken were of the greatest quality. The only complaint which I have was that service was slow at times (ie. waited more than 20 minutes to receive water), but besides this, this is a MUST VISIT restaurant during your stay in Trinidad.
Great atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. All the dishes are executed well. You don’t leave hungry or unsatisfied. A must visit, special place. I dare to say the a la carte menu is large (maybe too big), of course I understand the head chef would like to showcase as many dishes as possible. Maybe the menu could be divided some more. But it’s difficult to focus on your first visit. The culinary team are skilled. The food is all prepared, presented and delivered to Michelin standards. 🌸 The traditional Indian curry’s are delicious and packed with flavour. However the amount of sauce is too much. I would have preferred a smaller bowl with the same amount of meat but less sauce, I felt that the beautiful curry sauces were wasted at the end of the meal. The garlic naan’s are more crispy than fluffy, which is fine, but fluffy naan’s would be better to soak up all the sauces. Deserts are yummy and indulgent. The bartender(s) know their mixology. All the cocktails are blended and presented perfectly. Portion sizes are good! The live music is a subtle but most welcoming touch to the dining experience.
Scrumptious food; their ice cream is to die for; excellent and friendly bar tender thanks Vishnu Ustad Ji, excellent service and great ambiance; best Indian clean restaurant I have visited so far. Please keep up the good job.
So I was in Trinidad and decided to invite some local friends and family for something out of the ordinary....and it was extraordinary. I may have stumbled the best Indian restaurant in the Caribbean...it even beats most of the spots I frequent back home in Florida. Very very impressive. It is a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for here and I would go here regularly if I lived here for sure!
Long over due review. I had the pleasure of visiting for my birthday 2020. It was nothing short of perfection! From my arrival to departure, the service was outstanding. Even tho we had to observe Covid protocols, it was a pleasant experience. The drinks were well mixed and flavorful. The food's presentation was spectacular as I didn't expect my meal to be served as fancy as it was served. The taste was on point with its authenticity. I was serenaded by the sounds of soothing piano music in an already peaceful environment. This restaurant has made it to my list of favorite restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant for their authenticity in their dishes.
An Absolutely amazing experience!!! The attention to detail was truly remarkable, along with great service and a peaceful atmosphere. The food was extremely delicious, however the portion sizes for the appetizer were extremely small (as in two pieces of chicken). With that being said, it was the most tasty two bites, and after my meal was completed we left feeling extremely full and satisfied. I highly recommend their homemade cardamom and fig ice cream… I can’t wait to go back to try their afternoon tea menu and house chai… just be aware it’s expensive, however you deserve it and won’t regret it…XD
I had a wonderful experience at their afternoon tea. The tea service was exceptional, every item was delicious and surprisingly filling. The atmosphere/decor inside was beautiful and the service was very attentive. I'm looking forward to doing it again soon. Definitely recommend!
What a hidden gem! This place is amazing! The service is impeccable. Everyone, from the valet attendant to the bartender to the waiter to the chef goes above and beyond…with a smile. The food is amazing. The drinks are imaginative, expressive and delicious. You can’t find them elsewhere. That passion fruit chutney is TO DIE FOR!
Visited this wonderful and immersive restaurant that hosts a plethora of intricate flavors. Not only was the staff professional but the food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Everything ordered tasted distinct and unique to other indian themed restaurants. This place definitely deserved it's Trip Advisor awards and I'll definitely always return.
Been here twice and can say without a doubt it is perfection. We ordered butter chicken, lamb curry, lamb biriani and butter naan. The food is delicious and full of flavour. The lamb was tender and the curry was spiced to perfection. The mango lassi was excellent. The service here is stellar especially from Ajay who made both times memorable with his kindness and attention to detail. We will definitely be coming back.
The only word that can describe here is exceptional. The Food is simply amazing, especially for vegetarians. The decor and ambiance is exquisite. But the service is second to none. From the moment you step walk in to the second you leave the staff makes you feel welcome and comfortable. I will definitely be going back regularly.
Incredible dinner at the Meena House. We went with the chef's tasting menu and wine tasting and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. We would highly recommend this restaurant if you're staying anywhere near Port of Spain in Trinidad.
Are you ready for the best authentic Indian food you've ever had (in the Caribbean at least)? Well, welcome to Meena House! Upon entering the humble foyer, you'll be warmly greeted by your helpful server who will take you on a culinary journey, guiding you through the ins and outs of a richly complex menu. We paired our delicious cuisine with an appropriate wine recommended by the waiter. Although the initial ambiance was rather quiet, live music from local legend Nigel Rojas started at 7pm (check availability). In terms of the menu, you must try the chicken tikka 3-ways, the butter chicken, and the gulab jamoon cheesecake. Their tandoor chicken just melts in the mouth. Don't worry if you order too much - you'll love the takeaway containers. What are you waiting for? Go book your reservation now!
~5 Trip Advisor rated restaurant. Exquisite dining, superb service and delicious Indian cuisine. We had the tea service and a naan served like a pizza with parmesan and arugula. Very tasty food in a comfortable and elegant dining space.
Every aspect of this restaurant was top notch. It was excellent! Excellent ambiance, excellent food options and flavours, excellent presentation and the customer service is almost unparalleled in TnT, it meets international standards. This restaurant is a fine dining experience and they mean it! Fortunately you can still have fun eating with your hands by virtue of the nature of the cuisine. I will forever recommend this restaurant, the chefs were basically showing off their skills. It's expensive and worth every cent! I had a wonderful time, we went to celebrate an anniversary and got complementary deserts, which was really appreciated.
Excellent service. Nice portions. Modern Indian Upscale setting. Beautiful presentation of food. High-quality ingredients. Lovely afternoon tea. Overall Impressive!
Staff was friendly and helpful, especially as a first time visitor and not being familiar with the menu. Great suggestions regarding dishes and desserts.
AUTHENTIC, CREATIVE AND DELICIOUS. Simply put. I ordered Biryani through a food delivery app and I was super shocked when I got my food in its clay pot! It was so awesome. Made with love and attention to detail for sure.
Absolutely loved this place. Great service. Food was beyond amazing… Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. The freshly made juices were refreshing and the gelato ice cream was so good. Highly recommend the House Vindaloo, chili garlic naan and the Trini cocoa gelato. They were a bit pricey but trust me it’s worth it. After eating from The Meena House, Mee-na eating authentic Indian food anywhere else again 🤣 10/10 recommend 🥇
Reservation process was thorough and efficient, service was top tier - shout out to Vinod who took wonderful care of my mum and I for her birthday! The complimentary welcome drink, amuse-bouche and cheese cake with birthday candle were lovely touches. Starters were absolutely fine dining quality (tandoori chicken 2 ways and tandoori paneer), sides were great (garlic naan and cassava fries). Mains were good (veggie briyani and chicken vindaloo) but I feel there were more impressive dishes we could have chosen. Definitely not the best vindaloo, very runny, though I feel the lamb might absorbed more than the chicken. Would go again to eat my way through the rest of the menu.
Had a dinner celebration with family. Ambiance is great. Really nice place (we felt underdressed). Perfect for dates! Food was great. Service can be improved
Classy and unpretentious. The way welcome, understated service and decor are the perfect canvas for food, all artistically presented and perfectly prepared. Security escort to your car after dining is a thoughtful extra and was appreciated.
Excellent menu, service and setting. The food was among the best Indian I’ve had and beautifully presented. There are Sula wines by the glass. Loved the experience and crave to return for more as the menu is quite extensive.
An exceptional experience. Would recommend highly.
The food was phenomenal and met the owner/chef himself. If I ever find myself back In T&T again - I’m definitely coming back to eat! It was busy when we were there but enjoyed it nonetheless even with the wait.
Great food, and very good service from Zahoon! We enjoyed the lamb vindaloo and butter chicken, with saffron geloto to end, very good!
The Thali Trays I ordered were excellent. Enjoyed them tremendously. I have no complaints whatsoever about the quality of the food. Great value for money as well!
You walk into an experience! Some very attentive and knowledgeable staff. Interaction from the door with the young lady was note worthy. Food is reasonably priced for the level of culinary art tou received on your plate. We were offered a sort of pre appetizer as we waited on our orders. The menu does a great job of explaining most meal items and you can also ask questions. They have a few tasting options on the menu which is awesome. The Mint Chutney is divine! 2 person table was a bit tiny but the servers handled well. My partner and I were both satisfied with our meals. Meals are visually impactful so is the overall space. Edible Flowers and beautiful colours on every plate! Ambience was taken up a notch with live violin! If I had to nitpick my only wish was that the naan was served in a way that better kept its freshness.
I had lunch here. It's regular Indian food but more expensive and the cocktail drinks tasted like there wasn't any alcohol in them. The dessert was delicious and I loved the presentation! I would say the food isn't worth it, but I'm willing to return to try the afternoon tea. Ambience is lovely and service was good.
Authentic Indian food. Great ambiance and presentation of food. Service was slow for a week night.
Food and ambiance were excellent but the service left a lot to be desired. Our group was seated immediately but we did not receive enough menus, and the waiter took a long time to come back for our drink order…and somehow there were a number of mosquitoes (and this was inside seating). We reported the mosquito issue but nothing was done to address it. We also had to remind the waiter about small things needed for the table (which is something that should not need to happen). As a vegan with a vegetarian in our party however, I was impressed that there were many options for us and that they were labeled on the menu. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, which made the experience worth it! We loved the bindi and dosai (the sambar was excellent), the dal was great and I loved that there was at least 1 vegan dessert.
"It was in 1840 that Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, noticed she felt a 'sinking feeling' around mid-afternoon.Once served with a pot of Darjeeling tea, some bread, butter and biscuits, she felt decidedly better. The afternoon tea was born." It is truly a high tea experience one should enjoy more than once, friendly staff good service, excellent food and a great time ☕
Went for afternoon tea which starts at 2:30pm. They serve a choice of meat or vegetarian tea service, with an assortment of teas and coffees to choose from, as well as the option of adding bottle service. Plus a full cocktail menu as well. They offered a great mix of savoury and sweet items - mini chicken tikka tartlets, smoked salmon open faced sandwiches, mini falafel burgers, mixed nut tartlets, red velvet cupcakes, opera slices, chocolate mousse, and several other delicacies. Individually each item was bite sized or almost so, but the quantities served ensured you were adequately full by the end. Was a surprisingly delicious afternoon alongside great company. Would def return for tea here again.
Called to place an order, but unfortunately, there seemed to be an issue with the lines. Decided to make my order in person as I was greeted by the attendant at the front desk, and the order took roughly 10 minutes. The presentation is beautiful, as shown in the pictures, and the cost was $118. You are able to choose various dishes, and they are portioned in a sturdy container and covered, which kept the temperature well for the ride home (roughly 45-minute drive). Will return for an in-house dining experience.
A very high end indian restaurant in Port of Spain. The food was the greatest. Quantity is good enough Papadam basket is unique with many different papadam varieties Very nice and rich decor Well with all this one more things comes , the place is expensive but worth it
Excellent service from a well trained Oberoi employee. To further gain another star I would have liked a starter ( though not papadoms) gratis . Also the soup selection could be increased. But a beautiful setting and excellent service and taste.
This place needs to invest in an extractor fan for the kitchen. You should not be leaving a "fine dining" restaurant smelling like the food. Food was decent. Service absolutely sub par.
Food was ok but there standard has dropped especially with waiting time for your meal i arrived at 7 and waited 45 mins for a simple appetizer, the main course took even longer they did not have the lamb i ordered and gave me something that was not what i ordered or even remotely close to it, ive not gone here in many years since the owner’s attitude has deterred me and many of my friends from here and elysium but nether the less i gave him a try again and was disappointed, the security was very friendly and accommodating.
*Disappointing Experience - Overhyped and Underwhelming* I had high hopes for The Meena House given its reputation, but sadly, my visit was a huge letdown. The food was far from what I expected from a renowned restaurant. Firstly, the dishes lacked authenticity and were overly modified to suit a generic palate. The chicken Korma tasted more like a sweetened cashew soup rather than the rich, flavorful curry I anticipated. The biryani was very dry and lacked the aromatic spices that are essential to this dish (had to add Chicken dakbunglow to make it flavorful) Service-wise, it was sluggish and indifferent. Our orders took an eternity to arrive (50+ mins), and when they did, the dishes were already cold and the Naans (bread) were raw. The ambiance, although initially promising with its stylish decor, soon lost its charm as we struggled to enjoy our poorly executed meal. Overall, my experience at The Meena House was a stark contrast to its hype. It’s a shame that such potential is overshadowed by mediocre execution. I won’t be returning anytime soon and would advise others to manage their expectations if they plan to dine here. 3 Main course + Bread + Biryani + 2 Starters costed us 300$ USD, and more than half of the food was untouched.
Review for Meena House My friend and I visited Meena House for afternoon tea as part of a larger party of about ten people, and it was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the start, the service was appalling. Despite arriving before others in our party, we were ignored, while those who came after us received their tea plates first. We waited for 40 minutes with nothing, and only after the host of our party intervened were the plates brought out—another 10 minutes later. When the food finally arrived, it was a huge letdown. Everything was cold, unappetizing, and lacked any real flavor. For a place that promotes itself as an afternoon tea spot, the quality was severely lacking. The service was even worse. When I ordered a hot chocolate and didn’t like how it was prepared, I politely asked for another. The server, a tall, dark-skinned Indian man who appeared middle-aged, took it back with a clear attitude. He returned with a slightly better version, but his rudeness made the entire experience uncomfortable. Later, when we requested water, we saw this same server standing by the bar chatting with other staff instead of helping us. After asking again, another server eventually brought water, but the original server continued to ignore us, choosing instead to serve other members of our party who hadn’t even asked for water. When I directly addressed him with “excuse me,” he gave me a dismissive attitude. It became painfully clear that my friend and I were being deliberately ignored. Compared to how other members of our party were treated, the difference in service felt racially charged. We didn’t fit the “look” of the other guests, and the discriminatory undertones were impossible to ignore. Even the host of our party acknowledged that the orders were mixed up, service was slow, and mistakes were made. The only saving grace of the visit was one kind waitress—a dark-skinned woman with braided hair pulled back. She was polite, professional, and a rare bright spot in an otherwise terrible experience. I truly feel sorry that she has to work in such a negative environment. Overall, Meena House was a disaster. Between the cold, bland food, the rude and inattentive staff, and the racially charged behavior we experienced, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. If you care about good service, warm food, and respect, avoid Meena House entirely.
