Opinions de Leon's Deli Sandwich Shop Staten Island
The best sandwiches in Brooklyn! Very plentiful on the meat and the softest bread. You pay for quality, so don't expect to get a $7 sandwich but you WILL be full after eating one half. Go with an appetite.
I had an incredible 5-star experience at Lioni Italian Heroes! The food and atmosphere were absolute standouts, both earning a perfect 5-star rating. The service was also solid with a 3-star rating. If you're looking for amazing food in a great environment, this is a must-visit local spot!
Stopped at Lioni's on the way home from Manhattan to Baltimore. I'm not sure which hero we ordered. My friend requested a hero similar to what is made at another popular place in Atlantic City. Looks like an Italian cold cut. The sandwich/hero was tasty. I heated it the next day and it was even better. They sre very large. Definitely enough for more than one serving. It cost $24.
Lioni’s is one of those spots you have to come to when in the area. These types of deli’s are a dying breed but glad this one is still here. There are too many sandwiches to count but all are good. The chicken cutlets is what I love to order. Anything with them in a sandwich is good. Mozzarella is made fresh and has a milky smooth taste. They also have olives and all the other italian fixings you may need.
First time in Brooklyn, first place we stopped. Didn't disappoint. Heroes we're delicious and huge. We knew about the size, but we each bought one anyway. It worked out for lunch later. There are about 6 seats inside and more outside. Seems like a nice neighborhood place.
I got the #62 Alyssa Milano it is the best sandwich I ever had. It was recommended to me by some kid named Frankie. He couldn’t be much older than 16 or 17 years old but let me tell you he has the sharpest mind in the world. Everything Id talk to him about he knew about. And to top it off he was very funny. He got my humor almost perfectly.
This is the place to get your hands on hearty Italian heroes that will ruin other heroes for you. Their ingredients are fresh and each hero is stuffed full. These heroes can easily be split into two meals. If you don’t find a combination out of their many combinations of heroes, you can also make your own like I did.
There’s not a lot that goes into it. You come in, place an order, wait 5–10 minutes, and have yourself one of the best damn heroes you can imagine. I went with roast beef, fresh mozzarella, and roasted mushrooms. It did not disappoint and always gets it done. This place has the perfect comfort food. While you’re at it, grab a few rice balls and a Boylan’s Cream Soda and ENJOY!!!!
My go-to sandwich shop when I lived in Brooklyn. My Go-to for fresh mozzarella. My Go-to for everything Lioni. All when I used to live here. No, I come as a tourist. And I sound like one when ordering. But they are patient when taking my order. Can't go wrong. And the kids don't bug me every day to go to Lioni's. Look at the 150 plus sandwiches, know what you want, and then order. We had 138 veal culet 108 chicken cutlet 57 honey turkey Stuffed peppers Prosciutto rice balls Prosciutto bread Marinated mushrooms and God knows what else.
Great place to grab Italian heroes. The choices can be a bit overwhelming. I used the online ordering to help me narrow down the options (since I wanted pesto). I love the theme, naming heroes after notable Italians. I got #21 Jerry Vale, it was light and refreshing since I wanted something heavy. I recommend this place.
My buddy told me this place doesn't disappoint- let me tell YOU- It doesn't. This is the best damn chicken Parm Hero I've ever had. Took the crown off Sassys head - i was shocked. Solid portion, excellent quality chicken, hand made, breaded to perfection- plenty of meat on each cutlet- the cheese was legit, the sauce was perfect- the BREAD- MY GOD THE BREAD. Fresh, a little Crunch on the outside, nice and dougy in the center- not too much dough- just enough to compliment and carry the sandwich. Look, this place is really out of my way, but I'm gonna be back to try at least 15 of the damn near thousand specialty subs I see on their wall because this place is legit. When you want a good sandwich, this is exactly what you want. PEREFECTION.
With over 150 heroes to choose from they have something for almost everyone. I stopped in to pick up lunch for my sister & myself. The heroes were made pretty quickly & we decided to try some of three of their rice balls (pepperoni/ prosciutto/ cheese). They had an area for coffee & a small selection of baked goods (cannolis & cupcakes. It may vary daily. I’m not sure). The hero’s were so large we only ate half. So go extremely hungry, split one with a friend or be prepared to have the other half for dinner.
This Italian spot in Dyker Heights is a real treat. They make fresh pasta, ravioli, and a variety of Italian specialties that taste like they came straight from Italy. I tried their homemade ravioli with ricotta and spinach — perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and served with a fresh tomato basil sauce. They also have amazing rice balls, deli meats, and freshly baked bread. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the portions are generous. Prices are fair for the quality — expect to spend around $15–$25 for a hearty meal. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Brooklyn.
The sandwich shop is located in the Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn. They prepare large Italian heroes named after famous Italian people. They have an additional location in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. Customers take out their orders. Various appetizers, desserts, snacks, party platters and beverages are also available. I ordered the large rice ball that included chopped meat and peas in the center. The Sophia Loren hero which I selected is named after the Italian actress. It included prosciutto di parma, fresh mozzarella, sweet stuffed peppers, olive oil, salt and pepper. The hero was very good. Prices for the heroes can range from approximately $15 to $30.
Great place for some good Italian heroes 😋. So far I've tried around 4 of there heroes out of their 137 different kinds of sandwiches 😅... haven't gotten disappointed yet so... I'll probably try my way through their menu 👍. Their appetizers are great too! I recommend trying their fried prosciutto balls 👌. My only problem with the sandwiches is that they are too big (almost 16 inches).... I can't finish one sandwich by myself 🙃, so I had to share 3 sandwiches among 4 ppl (still soulnt finish everything).
Lioni Italian Heroes is a must-visit for sandwich lovers, offering massive, freshly made heroes packed with high-quality meats, cheeses, and toppings. Known for its generous portions and authentic Italian flavors, this Brooklyn spot delivers both taste and value. The menu features a huge variety of creative combinations, each made to order with care. The friendly staff and casual, welcoming atmosphere make it perfect for a quick bite or a hearty meal. Many locals call it the best hero shop in the area. If you’re craving a true Italian-style sandwich, Lioni Italian Heroes will not disappoint.
I've ordered the same sandwiches many times in the last 6 years so I know what they're supposed to look like. The portions have definitely gone down while prices go up, but a lot of places have been doing that with rising costs. However, when I paid to add meat to one of my orders recently, I noticed they gave less of prosciutto than is usually in the sandwich and substituted with salami. So basically I paid to get less prosciutto and a little bit of salami instead of what I paid for (adding salami on a sandwich that comes with prosciutto). It feels like I was tricked/ripped off. Tldr; paid extra to add salmai but got ripped off (less prosciutto than normal and a little bit of salami)
Don't use them for your catering. The owner was also really arrogant. I ordered over $200 worth of food for my daughter's 5th birthday. Penne vodka pasta and also mix of Italian and American heros. The pasta came absolutely cold. Heros were also small portion. When I called the owner he sounded annoyed. He said I'll just bring someone with hot water and candles to light it up and reheat it. Didnt offer a refund nor drive back with anything else. Driver was 20 minutes late. Mind you it was a timed birthday party. The food didn't even heat up at all. My guests didn't have enough food to eat and had to order pizza elsewhere. Not even an apology. I just had my friends book the play place for their kid's party so I will spread how horrible your restaurant is and not to use you for catering as they are also looking to order italian food. Work on your attitude because business isn't always forever.
I’ve been ordering Lioni sandwiches for over a decade. They’ve steadily increased their prices while decreasing their portion of meat. You’re looking at about 25-40% increase in price, for about an equal decrease in quantity. This place went from being a bargain to what it is today. If you’re looking for service, get ready to be put on hold without any warning. When they’re ready to take your order, and take you off hold, do be sure to order a “sufficient” amount. I wanted one sandwich, for which I received a sarcastic “you called for one sandwich” and an unceremonious hang up. All without the slightest attempt at service. There’s no reason to return.
Ordered a sandwich for pickup and it came with a side of attitude. Literally toss the sandwich on the counter for me to pick up like it was a privilege to hand it to me. Ordered the 7a, chicken cutlet was dry and flavorless. Almost no smoked cheese and pesto. Don’t buy into any hype, you’re better off going to your local deli instead of going out of your way for this type of disservice.
