I can’t say enough good things about this place. We loved the food and wine... AND the staff is incredible!! We loved them so much we took photos with them. Ryan and Paige thank you so much for taking such good care of us. We had a few stragglers to dinner and these guys made it work. I am so grateful.
This was so much fun. I was here because of a company event. The food was great. The event was in the basement and it felt kind of like a speakeasy. The food was great, and there was a great assortment of drinks. I plan to frequent Max's in the future. Parking I think the best option for parking is the valet parking. $10(10/24) in front.
I’ve had a fair amount of ‘great’ burgers. This has overcome the reigning champion as the best burger I’ve ever had, number two being Gordon Ramsey’s BURGR in Vegas. So highly recommend the signature burger with bacon and a fried egg. Get some garlic aioli to dip the fries in. So freaking good...
My SO selected this spot for our private birthday dinner this year. His choice was terrific! This place is definitely a date spot and not intended for kids. An extensive wine list, along with a few craft cocktails are provided with the menu. Our server was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable. We got to experience the Austin Restaurant Week menu and made separate selections from the multi course meal. The truffle mac and cheese was absolutely divine! The deviled eggs were so unique, I could have ordered more if we didn’t have more feed coming. The fried chicken was very good and the greens were tasty. The SO had the pork chop which was also very good. Dessert was included, so I ordered the ice cream sandwich, while my man got the bread pudding. Check out this location when needing a special place to enjoy with a romantic meal while downtown.
This place is amazing. Came to celebrate my bf's mother's bday. She has celiac, so we came specifically for their gluten free fried chicken... It. Was Phenomenal. We received a free bowl of ridiculously amazing mac n cheese that put my grandmother's to shame, so a kitchen mistake made my night! At one point a super nice cook came to check on us, very polite yet casual and made us feel like we were getting the five star treatment. After getting stuffed on amazing food (I personally had the fried chicken and champagne salad, it's great), they surprised our birthday girl with a bowl of ice cream (pretty sure it was amys, and of course delicious) with caramel, Oreo bits and strawberries... Did I mention everything here was plated so beautifully that I took a snap for instagram... some thing I've only done once before! My only regret was not being able to tip more, and that's after I added to it twice and had no more copies of the cc receipt to raise it again. I used to wait tables for 5+ years, and although I try not to scrutinize restaurants when I dine, I couldn't help but notice how relaxed and non panicked the staff was on a Saturday night and limited space. Even the art on the walls was impressive. 😣 The only thing I could even come up with to be nitpicky is the small entrance does mean that only so many people can wait for a table before the door becomes blocked. But I also saw that it was never blocked, and people always promptly seated without much of a wait. All in all, this place is worth a reservation and extremely accommodating to those with gluten free allergies, AND overall amazing. First review I've written.
Easily one of the cooler joints in Austin. Great wine with odd but fantastic food choices. Definitely try the (optionally gluten-free) fried chicken with whatever kind of honey they put on it. Absolutely amazing. Even crazier is the giant event areas downstairs where weddings, corporate meetings, and various for rent get togethers are held. A true Austin treasure!
We went there for a brief brunch before leaving town. We had sweet potato french toast. It was excellent! We didn't have wine, but the food was unique and very good. It was crowded that morning but they accomodated us at the bar. I plan to go for dinner and wine when I return to Austin.
Ok, so I'm a little confused, how is their egg sandwich SO GOOD!!?? It's honestly the best egg sandwich I've ever had anywhere on the planet. I didn't know it was possible to make a stellar egg sandwich....but there you are. The cocktails and wine selection are top notch as well.
Every time I’m in town I always make at least one visit to this Austin institution! The best fried chicken around, and the service is always over the top! They have a really fun wine list that has something for everyone!!
Where else can you do wine tastings, order fried chicken and a mimosa and still take home a case of wine; Max's that's where. This is a unique combination that is quirky enough to work. Sundays or holiday us a great time to order off the brunch menu. Wanted to add that the brunch breakfast sandwich is huge and tastes wonderful. I need to split it with someone.
This place is the bomb. Love the chicken and waffles for brunch. Chili is great for lunch. My favorite is probably the max and cheese with chicken tenders and truffle sauce. Ask the bartender to make you a Mexican martini with mezcal instead of tequila.
Max's is one of my go-to brunch places. There's rarely a wait, and they always seem to be on top of their service. And if you need to valet due to crowded parking, it's only $4. There are some rotating menu items (red velvet pancakes with whipped cream cheese butter were to DIE for) along with staples like the delicious egg sandwich with truffle oil + chips and chicken + waffles. But, ask for the special! It is always amazing.
I found this place randomly while touring downtown Austin. Not disappointed at all in anything about this place. Cool music, the best collard greens I've ever tasted and a young cool staff! Only thing that I didn't appreciate was not having enough time to taste everything!!!!
We visited on a Sunday night around 6:00 and the place was completely dead. No problem with that though as we got plenty of attention. Food came out quickly and the wine selection was superb. Just a note, this location does not allow purchases of bottles to take home since they are a full bar and that is against TABC regulations. Other Max's locations without a full bar should still allow this though.
I don't know what some of these complainers are talking about, my husband and I discovered this gem, and have been back several times since we first fell in love. Their brunch is AWESOME! their egg sandwich is the biggest I have ever seen. Their wine selection is amazing, and right now they have cases of wine for $99. Ya real overpriced. This place is amazing, and my husband even said, let people think it sucks so it's not overrun, and it can be our place lol. No, this place deserves to be busy, their chicken is awesome, yes it takes time, if you want kfc wait times, go to kfc, they batter and fry it to order, people need to learn that food that is actually prepared at time of order takes longer. Some people just need to stick with chili's 2 for 1s and pre-made food. For those with a more discerning palate, looking for a swanky environment, AMAZING wine selection (with knowledgeable and helpful staff) and great food, Max's is for you :)
I LOVE the brunch here. The wait is much shorter than any place on South Congress, and the food is great. Reasonable prices for the quality and portion size. I recommend the duck tacos. Yum
I was given a gift card by the Hampton Inn & Suites in Austin for this venue and the reception to the food to the service is A #1 and by far and away superior to many others I visited on my trip to the USA . Southern Hospitality great food and great people . Sorry to Dave for not leaving a tip I was not thinking about it after enjoying the meal. Recommend this establishment very highly ! If God was in the south he would eat at Max,s Wine Dive in Austin!
Max's Wine Dive has a misleading name. They have excellent food! I had the egg sandwich for lunch, and it was awesome. It's huge, messy, and delicious. My friend had a burger, and he said it was one of the best burgers that he's had in a while.
If your looking for a upscale place to eat and enjoy your self then come to Max's wine dive. It can be a bit pricey but it's all worth it in the long run. The atmosphere is just excellent for anyone looking to dress up and go show out for a night or to. This is a excellent establishment in the austin area.
Their fried chicken is amazing. They also have a great space for private parties in their basement. I reserved it for my "superhero/supervillain" themed birthday party and they went beyond expectations to make sure we had a fun filled night.
My favorite restaurant hands down for the past 10 years. Being gluten free doesn’t limit my menu options here and I’ve never had a meal I didn’t like. My husband and I even got married here! Fried chicken and collards at our wedding - best day ever!
I like going here and getting a glass of wine and eating food out of a jar. I once went to happy hour on a Monday and had the mussels and fries each $5 and a glass of Sangria. I would definitely go back for that deal! The price is right and the food was good. Great place to take a date. Open kitchen concept. Sitting at the kitchen bar is fun and to watch kitchen staff do their thing.
Sooo good! I was here for a training and they served lunch. It was fantastic! I chose the shrimp and grits. I was kind of unsure but took a chance. It was amazing. So was the bread pudding. I’m don’t think I’ve ever liked bread pudding but this was delicious. I ate the whole serving. I want to go back sometime and try some other things. Staff was super nice too. I loved it!
I love the cocktails and the fried chicken. You cannot go wrong with the fried chicken - there is even a gluten free option!! The prices are a little high, but it is TASTY! I would also recommend the friend egg sandwich, and of course there is an excellent wine selection.
Great selection of wines by the glass and served at the proper temperature! Definitely try their dried chicken...whether it's the full dinner or the fried chicken champagne salad. It's absolutely delicious! I eat here almost every time I am in town!
This restaurant was amazing after walking around Austin streets for 3 hours trying to find a nice place with some good wine we came upon this restaurant. The waiter was friendly and attentive And quick with the service. He recommended a bottle of wine that ended up being amazing. The food was great and the atmosphere was relaxing
If you're a fan of chicken and waffles, look no further! Possibly the best I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying, the chicken is well flavored and the perfect degree of moist. The waffles are exemplary, quintessentially fluffy and crisp. Possibly the best food pairing I have ever experienced. MAX's offers many other delicious dishes, and while they are also good in their own ways, it is difficult to beat the chicken and waffles. Seriously, they are that good- this is the place you always hear about but never believe the hype until you experience it yourself.... And then it blows your mind.
The brunch menu is unbelievable. I had the king cake french toast, which was delicious. I had a taste of the fried chicken Benedict and I'm definitely ordering it next time. The service was great and it wasn't crowded in the morning.
The food was great, and wonderful atmosphere. We tried the deviled eggs and brussel sprout appetizers. They both tasted great. My husband enjoyed the haute dog, while I had the Caeser salad. The fries were fantastic, tasted like the homemade ones my dad would make.
This is hands down one of our favorite restaurants in Austin. We have been here several times and tried everything that we can off the menu and NEVER been disappointed! Their wine selection is great as well and they even offer frequent wine tastings that are definitely worth the money. The fried oysters are a MUST!
A coworker had recommended this place, so I had to check it out. GREAT FOOD! Truffle oil/butter is used on several items, and it gives it that special finish. We started off the meal with the pork stuffed peppers - very good and wish we had 3 times as many of them. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup - would venture to say it's the best grilled cheese I've ever had (sorry Mama)! Soup was quite tasty too. My boyfriend's father had the fried chicken and cleaned his plate. I had a little nibble - the jalapeño in the buttermilk batter is a nice touch. My boyfriend had the fried egg sandwich with the truffle chips, and his plate was clean. Those truffle chips are killer. My only complaint was the loud music, but it did drown out the cackling laugh from the table behind us - silver lining. I've been told it's not so noisy during lunch.
This place is awesome. We enjoyed some good wine and have the four course meal during restaurant week. The shrimp and grits were really good. No sambuca thought other than that. This is a great place to hang out.
This is one of our favorite date places. The wine selection is great. But what's best is the fried chicken! And what makes it even better is they have a gluten free friend chicken option that is as awesome as the regular one. The sauce they serve with it...the mashed potatoes, it makes for a wonderful meal! I'm personally not in love with the greens, but that is my personal taste. Too much vinegar for my taste buds, but most everyone else I know loves them. Parking....not as easy because it's downtown.
Gluten sensitive customer. Bar tender and chef were highly knowledgeable to gluten free-gluten sensitive options. Very friendly. High quality excellent gluten free fried chicken, even better than your mawmaw can cook it. Chicken was moist and crisp but with lots of flavor. Sides of mashed potatoes and greens were great compliments. Brownie was great and gluten free. Good atmosphere if you enjoy vibrant energy but still dark ambiance enough to be laid back. Troy was bartender and Chef Robert were fantastic.
This is a fun, dive with a menu of amazingly delicious items. The fried chicken cobb salad was spectacular as was the pineapple upside down bread pudding. I will let the rest of the menu be a cool surprise. And you will be pleasantly surprised! We were a group of 20 and although this place is small, the staff handled it very well. Since everything is cooked to order you have to be patient but it is well worth the wait. The atmosphere is fun and the wait staff is friendly. A bar runs the length of the restaurant and although no one was at the bar at lunch time it clearly is a popular watering hole later in the day. This is a great place for a first date or a fun reunion.
They have a friendly staff, excellent comfort food and an excellent selection of wines by the glass. If you want two or more glasses of a wine, you can order off the bottle menu. They also have a great brunch. On nights and weekend there is valet parking. Come hungry and try their fried chicken. The grilled cheese is another great choice.
I love Max's Wine Dive, this was my first time visiting the Austin location, and I was by far not disappointed. Went here for brunch with some friends, and the service was great! we had a group of about 6 and everyone eats differently, with the wide variety of options available we all ate happy. reasonable prices, and great mimosas! I was glad that this location did not disappoint!
The late night burger we had Was one to write home about. Chef Rob nailed it. Seared perfectly on the outside and wonderfully tender medium inside. It was cooked with great skill and had great flavor. He even seasoned the thick slice of very fresh tomato. We will definitely be back for another masterful burger. We also had the chicken sliders - I highly recommend 'em! I also recommend the Texas old fashioned. Service was great as well. Thanks guys!
We went during happy hour and split deviled eggs and the fried chicken, asking for extra collards. While the deviled eggs were not anything to write home about, the chicken was fantastic. As was our server's knowledge of the wine list. The time I asked for a suggestion she steered me right with questions about what I liked and was able to describe the wine well.
Really great find: we loved that we could make a reservation through OpenTable, so we did mot have to wait at all when we arrived, the waiter was very entertaining but knowledgeable at the same time (he amazingly described every dish we were interested in, for us). The food came fast and we loved the cheese platter appetizer. Now my pot pie looked fantastic but it tasted a little like something I would do at home. I mean it was good, but I guess I expected something a little more sophisticated from a restaurant...The dessert was delicious, I just think it could have been amazing if they would serve the brownies warm with the ice cream in between. The drinks were great - good wine collection. Overall we really enjoyed our dinner and yes, would go back to try other dishes!
Very delicious food. Very delicious wine. Great service while waiting for the food which takes quite some time. Visited on. Thursday night around 6. Atmosphere-filled up very quickly and got pretty loud.
This place is definitely not a dive. It's a great place for a date night. Intimate seating with a great drink menu. Items are priced high, but to be expected on the quality of food. Parking is tough in this area of town, but a few parking garages close by. Make a reservation before going on a busy night.
Had the chicken and waffles when I was here during a brief visit to Austin. Service was friendly and the food was pretty good. Really liked the waffle half of the dish but thought the chicken left a little to be desired.
Fried chicken & wine. Yes, fried chicken & wine. Sounds strange ? Well until I came to Max's I thought so too. This place is freaking awesome!!! The chicken was slap yo mama good. Don't know much about wine? Who cares, that's what the staff is there for. They'll get you set up!
Enjoyed a nice down home cooked meal. The Fried chicken was as juicy a piece I've ever eaten, the drunk bread app was also very good. We went on a Sunday evening and I can imagine that on Friday and Saturday the place is really hopping.
We love to take the train and go to Max's for happy hour. Their food is good, though happy hour offerings amount to chips--just potatoe chips and could/ should be expanded. Our waiter did an ok job. Great location and easy access to downtown venues.
I read about Max's Wine Dive in Southern Living, and if Southern Living mentions it, it can't be bad, right? It's not surprising to discover that the restaurant is a chain. It has that faux "dive" feeling that you know has been replicated in other locations. But for the audience that I imagine Max's attracts, faux "dive" is probably good enough. What attracted me to Max's was the (quite prominent) promise of champagne and fried chicken, undoubtedly two of my favorite things in the world. The happy hour special is nice--select wines and appetizers are discounted a few dollars, which made me feel a little more free to dabble. My server was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping me pick new and different wines to try, which was handy. But let's be honest--if you come here, you need to focus on the fried chicken. The. Fried. Chicken. It's as good as they claim, I promise. I had the fortune of visiting on a slower night, so the server recommended that I order the chicken double-battered, which takes a little longer to cook. But oh, was it worth it. The portion is huge--if you order it for yourself, make sure you're starving. Even if you're not, you'll want to eat the whole thing in one sitting. The crispy batter shell gives way to moist, tender chicken fried to perfection. And if that isn't enough, it comes with mashed potatoes, greens and Texas toast... seriously. You may doubt that fried chicken this good can come from a chain restaurant, but haters beware--this stuff is legit. If you don't gorge yourself quite to excess during your meal, someone at Max's came up with the greatest gift to mankind--a half-brownie, half-bread pudding dessert. And that's all I'm going to say about that. You're welcome.
Max's is a great spot to drop by anytime of day. They specialize in comfort foods like fried chicken, grilled cheese and their my highly recommended favorite, truffle mac and cheese. This place blends aspects fine dining with a familiar pub feel (and price!) and is not to be over looked.
This easily could have been 5 stars if I hadn't come back for brunch on a Sunday morning. This was the first restaurant in Austin I have decided to come back twice for, seeing their is typically no need with the multitude of choices available. The first time I came I chose the Breakfast egg sandwich.. excellent! The eggs were done over-medium, the bacon crispy , and the sandwich was well seasoned. The second time, I naturally had to choose the same sandwich seeing it was so good the first time around! Unfortunately not nearly as wonderful of an experience. As I always request, I asked for the eggs over-medium, to which I received a sharp response from the waitress stating that's how it's always done. I nodded, and when the sandwich was received, I was gifted with over easy, runny and mucous like eggs. I ate it nonetheless, and left feeling disappointed and unwilling to return for brunch again. I will certainly return for dinner however! The ambiance is excellent, and overall I would still recommend this to anyone visiting or living in Austin!
MAX's was good. I love the fried chicken/champagne concept. The service the night I went was dismal, unfortunately. But the food was good. The chicken breading has an interesting spice to it...jalapeno? Anyway, this is somewhere I may not seek out again on purpose, but it was delicious the first time around.
Honestly, nothing I tried in terms of food or wine there was good enough to justify the price. It was all quality stuff, but I think for the price (especially on the wine) they should be doing a lot better. Compare to other places in downtown that offer the same level wine at lower prices or better wine at the same prices. Good fried chicken though!
Delicious twist on traditional comfort food, like fried chicken and mac 'n cheese. We ordered several things so we could try them all. Loved the fried egg sandwich. Service was great and I was able to leave my car parked there for a few hours afterward while we walked to 6th street. Very convenient!
I absolutely LOVE their Brunch menu. I recommend the brisket and grits, fried egg sandwich and mac and cheese. The portions are very large. Sometimes service is a little slow but the atmosphere is enjoyable to be in while waiting.
A wine bar that serves comfort food = fun concept. Max's pulls it off pretty well, too. Good ambiance, consistent service and yummy (calorie-rich) food make Max's A-OK on my list. They have also recently introduced a lunch special, which is a good deal if you're on the hungry side. Try them for brunch if you're in need of hangover-curing food, or for dinner if your boss is paying. Otherwise, stop in for happy hour sometime and see what they're all about.
Came for a business brunch and enjoyed my meal. Started with Not Your Mamas Oysters half dozen as an appetizer. I had the melon salad to be light. We had to try the bananas foster cake ala mode. Only suggestion...get valet out there early as I had to park at the convention center!
Good quality food and interesting menu. We loved the fall menu and the wine was wonderful. Didn't try the Fried Chicken but it was clear that was their specialty. Dishes ranged from $12-$32. They have a few patio tables out front but the inside atmosphere is romantic yet hip. The service was wonderful and will be back. $5 wine by the glass at Happy Hour, 4-7 pm.
Great food and friendly service. A bit loud for older crowds, but fun vibe. You will not go home hungry! Portions are Texas-sized. Love the food here...a great sample of elevated southern comfort food. If you're thinking of having an event here, Ali and her team are THE BEST at walking you through everything!!
I have been for happy hour a few times and have always loved the food, service, and the happy hour priced wine! Went for the first time for brunch, and everyone at the table loved their food. It is a bit pricier than some other downtown restaurants, but we enjoyed it all! Lots of high top tables, so not kiddo friendly.
I've been enjoying meals at Max's for 10 years. First, they change the menu every season, which is fun. Second, it's a corporate business but the Austin controls the menu, meals and the equality. They have intimate understanding of wines and make fun cocktails. So my last meal was Schnitzel. It was a beautiful slice of pork with bone in. The gravy was not heavy but included lots of mushrooms. I loved how the pickled onion served as a sauerkraut. If you can't make up your mind default to the Fried Chicken and Mac and Cheese. Have fun and tip the wait staff well. They are beautiful people.
Being a wine lover, I had to try this place. It's a not a large space but it's very simple. They have a good variety of wines. The wait staff, I felt was lacking in the wine knowledge but so it goes. We got a few options of small plates and appetizers. The hummus was awesome. The goat ribs were way over cooked, dry and over sauced so I definitely don't recommend those. Overall not a bad at all. I would go there again.
Food was really good. My friends raved over the gluten free fried chicken. Apparently that’s a big deal to gluten free folks. Good wine selection with good recommendations. However, there aren’t many options on the affordable end of the spectrum.
First date night with my now fiancee. We go back once a year on our anniversary or for a special occasion. Good service, friendly staff, nice part of town, and enjoyable atmosphere for casual dining. Wine list is lengthy, but I don't consider myself an aficionado. Wine prices are higher than I would prefer. I always get the fried chicken with collard greens.
I go here a few times a week. Their fried chicken is hit and miss, but when it is good it is awesome. Their mac and cheese is very good, but it is not on the menu so you need to ask for it specifically. Prices are what you would expect for a downtown restaurant, about 14-18 per person for lunch. Their sunday morning brunch is great, but you need to make reservations.
Colorful and local vibe. Here for Sunday brunch. Food took a while and had great expectations. My food arrived cold. Well, a bit warm toward the center. However, very good taste and a bit of heat. Others in my party had hot food. Mixed emotions about this review. I will update if we return.
First off i find a pube and dirty stain on my menu!! I heard this place was great so i just got another menu. We got salmon and subbed for the mushroom risotto and truffle fries. Salmon great risotto was amazing but the truffle fries were a big let down.
We had a great and energetic waiter which made the night as pleasurable as possible. That being said we ordered their chicken n waffles and the fried egg sandwich and left with food poisoning. The food is decently priced as their portions are huge but the feeling of sickness was note worth it. The price of alcohol was rather high as well. The decor is decent and service great, but food is meh!
Currently sitting at the bar and the service was terrible. I will say that they have a good product but their follow through leaves something to be desired. I ran to the bathroom as my girlfriend sat at the bar and she was walked by several times until I sat down. The bartender, short grey hair and glasses, didn’t give us the time of day and sat a menu in front of me and tapped as if you have to order to sit here. The wine we ordered was good but did not make up for the poor service. I went to the Max’s in Dallas and had a great time. I’m surprised the pretentious location is Austin.
I had mixed feelings! The food and wine was fantastic! The service wasn't bad. In fact, if we had money to burn, it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. The waiter was pretty pushy and maybe more involved and personal than we would have liked. I know he was just doing his job and he was very charming and smooth, but we felt pushed to each have a glass of wine, which I know wasn't really what my boyfriend had originally had in mind. We're not "always drink with every meal" kind of people, but my boyfriend wanted me to be happy since we were there celebrating a milestone. The waiter hoped that we would purchase a bottle, but I thought $50 was a little steep for something we could most likely pop over to a liquor store and get for $20-$30, not to mention the fact that we were already purchasing a glass we would not otherwise have gotten. We were "upsold" several items that we regretted when we got the paycheck. Who knew that it cost $3-$4 to switch out sides? That's kind of absurd if you ask me. I wish that had been explained to us, or at the very least, I wish we had thought to ask. We're just a couple of young professionals hoping to purchase a home in this incredibly expensive real estate market. Spending $100+ on dinner is not something we're in a position to do. Wish we could return, but this place was a little too pricey for us, unfortunately...
Went here for Valentine's Day. Guess I was expecting it to be more romantic. Food was delicious, but it was really loud and not very intimate. Lots of tables crammed in a small space. Would definitely recommend the mac and cheese and the fried chicken though. A little overpriced though for the more bar-like atmosphere
Usually one of my favorite spots to go for Sunday brunch but lately it has been a slew of bad experiences. The last time I went, the wife and I took our couple friends from out of town. The food took some time but they were busy so not that big of a deal. When the food did come out though, it was all cold! So really the food was made, it just never got brought out to us in a timely manner. The time previous to that we were having brunch with my parents, we were one of the first groups to sit down and order. Again our food took a very long time, the table next to us, that sat down after we ordered, got their food first. I even had to go up to the bar multiple times just to get a soda refill. On this particular visit I even talked to the manager and he was fairly rude. Hoping these issues were just temporary staffing problems but they should get them corrected soon.
Coming from a person who has been in the food industry for 6 years (serving 5 bartending 1) I feel like I have a good rounded view of a restaurant and Im not sure if I would go back on a busy night... We had a reservation for 4 at 8 pm. We got there and were unable to access the right valet because of construction, and had to wait almost 25 minutes on a table. Inside was VERY loud even for a young group like ours, so we asked to be outside.. It did start raining which was no fault of theirs but there is no cover for the outside dining, and there were only 4 available tables inside, luckily we did get a table inside and everything was transferred with no problems and we kept our same server. The max n cheese was very good, the wine seemed short poured. I had the haute dog N.Y. Style which came with homemade pickles, purple kraut, and onion rings on top.. The bun and toppings were fantastic the dog was a little lost in all of the other flavors. The french fries were perfectly seasoned, and the ranch had a bit of a zest to it that played on the tip of your tongue. The bread pudding was absolutely the best Ive ever had. Our server was very sweet and understanding, and was as accommodating as space permitted. I feel like the menu was overpriced for the quality, but the portions were decent for our table (Max-n-cheese, 1 burger, 1 dog, 2 fried chickens and lemon poppy seed bread pudding)
Definitely had a lot of highs and lows with this dining experience. The first was that we were there for 2 hours. The Mac n cheese and fried chicken was very good and came out piping hot but the brownie in the sundae was almost impossible to eat. It was incredibly hard and we were originally brought the wrong dessert. (Should've kept the bread pudding) we waited several minutes for our drink order to be taken and didn't have many opportunities to stop our server. The restaurant was busy but not packed. If I had been informed it was an additional hour wait for the chicken, I would've picked something else. I also have no way of knowing whether that was the actual wait or my service was just incredibly slow compared to everyone else. TL,DR: Food was amazing, except the brownie sundae. Service was very lacking.
Fried chicken was really good. Fantastic wine selection. Rating them down because the valet interrupted our meal to tell us they were leaving (before MAX's closed) so we had to scramble to pay for the valet and rush the rest of our dinner.
Don't go here for lunch! Slowest service ever! Can't comment on the food because I had to get it to go after waiting 40 minutes! I did however get to watch the kitchen staff eat and chit chat while I waited. UPDATE: I tried to eat my "to go" order and the fries were cold and stale, the chicken strips were just a chicken breast cut up into strips after being fried and were soggy. I also didn't get any dipping sauce to mask the taste of their nasty chicken....
I came to this place for the first time because I saw someone had posted their food on Facebook and it looked to delicious. However, coming after work the server Chase/ Cameron was really disconnected with us. Meaning he never came to check on us within the 25 minutes that we waited for our chicken to be cooked. Half of the items that are on the menu that we wanted was for brunch only, however it's not labeled on the menu. We came around 4pm. They was another couple, including us. The place was dead, so we were expecting better service. Oh, after 25 mins had flew by and our pricey drink was all completely gone to where the ice in my drink started melting. We decided to flag our waiter to come to our table and we decided to take our meal to go. I've yet to taste the meal itself so I can't comment on that. The drinks are not strong at all. If you want really good drinks at a decent price go to Lucy's Chicken off College & Congress street. We asked what drinks were good and Chas said, all. He couldn't narrow down or asked us what type of drinks we liked. So I'm rating this supposed to be up and coming restaurant a low 4, this is based on service and drinks alone. I'm hoping that the food is off the chain good so that I won't have to post more! Good Night and God Speed!
I absolutely love Max's...I've never had an issue until last night. We had made reservations for the three course dinner with wine parings on New Year's Eve. It was also my friends birthday so we decided this would be something fun to do...we were there three hours and half of the time the manager had to bring our food because the waiter was no where to be found. We hardly had the wine with the actual course bc by the time it came, we had already eaten the food it was supposed to go with. This was $75 a person..I get that it was busy but honestly..we could have ordered off of the regular menu. We had to ask for our food and wine every single time because it took an hour per course. They also sent out the wrong desert to both of us. At the end I was shocked they didn't even offer to change the price..so we paid the $75 a person and left. Ill be back because I do love this place but I was shocked at the service..even the tables next to us were saying how horrible their experience was as well.

I wanted to bring my wife here to celebrate her birthday. We arrived and the place was empty. Thought hey we have a nice restaurant to ourselves for a while will be nice. How wrong was I. Clear sign says waite to be seated but had to ask can we sit. Yeah sit wherever you want. After a min and after she wiped the bar counter down who I assumed was the host or bartender, she brought menus to the table. Asked if we wanted something to drink we asked for water for now. After delivering the water she said a sever will be with us. We looked over the menu and decided on what we wanted and had small little chat. After all that still no server my wife stated will the waiter be here soon. I looked around and noticed the staff all in the corner looked like they were contemplating weather or not they would wait on us. After sitting there for 20 min my wife said she let's just go. Looks like they played rock paper scissors finally there was somebody walking our way. It was too late tho my wife was already out the door. It's too bad looks like they have great food. The only thing is their service really sucks. Ended up going to PF Changs and I must say way better service. Get your act together Max.
I'm a big fan of MAX's Wine Dive. I've probably been here 10x. I don't know what's happened but since my last venture here this has dropped from a top spot to a place I walked out on. Food took over 45 minutes to get here. I saw people eating in the kitchen. We ended up leaving before we ate. Not sure what's changed, I really want to go back. Their chicken is amazing!
My group didn't have a good experience here. I had such high hopes because a friend of mine likes this place. We went for Restaurant's Week and all planned to have the 3 course menu. They told us they were out of avocado toast, one of the 3 options for the first course. For the second course, they were out of wings. For the third course they were out of brownies, one of 3 options. Then later, they told another table that they had avocado toast and that the brownies "were back." The food took a very long time and by the time it came, it wasn't hot. The server wasn't very nice. He just told us they were out of the items we wanted and basically had the attitude of "you deal with it." I really think they should first not run out and if you do, provide good options. Several of us didn't like the chicken and others didn't like the waffles. I won't likely return.
Ordered happy hour wine and received full price wine. Twice. Once at the bar while waiting and then again at the table. Also our waitress Molly was extremely rude. I'm service industry and I understand a bad night but she has waited on me three times now and they were all awful experiences. I will say the fried chicken is the best ever though!
Just left. There was only table seating for those with a reservation. Therefore, we had to sit at the bar. Someone brought us water, 5 minutes later someone came with menus, we we were done looking and looked at maybe 5 waiters look at us/pass us and no one took our order. A while later someone asked and we ordered. 10 minutes later we received our food. Cold waffles and ice cold syrup. Chicken was hot but eating it with cold waffles and ice cold syrup made it a mediocre meal not worth $18. No one came back to see if we needed anything until they wanted to give us the check. Disappointed because we took 20 minutes to find parking and went there because of the decent reviews. For the prices they charge, you'd think they'd train their servers on customer service and chefs the value of a completely hot meal. They also do not have military discount for those who wonder. Definitely will NOT go back!
Wow. What a disappointment. A friend recommended this place. And my daughter likes it a lot too. But I thought it was overrated and overpriced. just go down the street to Gus's fried Chicken if you want some good chicken. For half the price. I think this is the kind of place you go to be seeing by and with the other hip and cool people, which I clearly am not. Our server was good but other than that no intention of ever going back.
