We celebrated the Lantern Festival here with friends and had a wonderful dinner. My friends invited me to a meal to celebrate some successful land investments, and I specifically asked for an authentic Chinese restaurant. They brought me here, and it did not disappoint. The food was truly authentic Sichuan cuisine — every dish was flavorful and well prepared. It felt like enjoying a traditional holiday meal back home in China. A special thank you to our server Lin, who was professional, attentive, and very friendly. Her service made the whole dining experience even better. If you’re in Houston and looking for authentic Sichuan food, I highly recommend this place. ⭐ Highly recommended.
This is a truly authentic Chinese Sichuan restaurant! The flavors are spot on — bold, spicy, and full of aroma, just like real Sichuan cuisine. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food. Some of the classic dishes really reminded me of home and gave me that comforting, home-style feeling. The service is excellent as well. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel very welcome. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic Sichuan food with a warm, family-like atmosphere. I will definitely come back!
Authentic Sichuan food with great flavors and generous portions. You can tell this place is popular — it was busy when we visited, which says a lot. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean, and welcoming. Service was friendly and efficient. A great spot for real Sichuan cuisine, definitely worth coming back to.
First time and wow. If you want that special tingle burn this is it. It’s not extremely hot but you will get that flavor for sure. Came for dinner and wife likes the water boiled fish a lot. Food comes out extremely quickly and only had a short wait on a Saturday night. Portions are sizable. Plenty of parking
Had lunch at Mala Sichuan Bistro in Sugar Land this Sunday, and it was fantastic! We tried the Szechuan chicken fried rice, spicy crispy chicken, and jasmine green tea — everything was packed with authentic flavor. The chef even came over to our table to explain the spices and cooking style, which made it such a fun and personal experience. The jasmine tea was so refreshing — highly recommend if you haven’t tried it before! Great food, great service, and a really nice ambience. Definitely coming back soon!
This is literally the best food I have ever eaten. I got the Spicy Crispy Chicken: 10 out of 10. So crispy and flavorful it was unbelievable. Also got Shrimp Dry pot; it was delicious! So flavorful and good. Came with white rice and both dishes were fresh and very hot. This was our first time here and will definitely be back. The server was very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was clean and very nicely decorated. I wish I could give 6 stars, this restaurant exceeded all of our expectations. Amazing amazing!
This place is a hidden gem! The food is extremely flavorful and the prices pretty reasonable! We tried the crispy chicken, Mongolian beef, spicy fried rice, soup and noodles, there was not a single dish which disappointed! The service was a bit sloppy, but I do understand they were short staffed and they did make it up towards the end.. Our favorites are crispy chicken and fried rice, simply delectable! Definitely coming back to try more of their greens and veggies! And yeah before I forget to mention, shout out to them for including halal menu!
Amazing Food! Had a wonderful experience! Went for my birthday dinner, and I am glad I picked this place. We ordered the following items from the Halal Menu: Kung Pao Chicken 9/10 Mala Fried Beef 8/10 Combination Noodles Chicken and Beef 8/10 Combination Fried Rice Chicken and Beef 8/10 Really liked the Plum Juice I wish they had Halal Menu on other locations as well We drove all the way from spring to try this place! Also, we recommend adding halal appetisers and a soup bowl to the menu! Really, like the overall taste is very authentic !
We have been coming to this place regularly for the last few years since their opening in Sugar Land. The food is always delicious, and they maintain the quality very well. Especially like the Tea Smoked Duck, Jiggling Pork Belly, Twice Cooked Pork, and Water Boiled Beef. We would order the Family Pack for take-out. They also recently update this location with new furniture making it even cozier than before. Strongly recommended!
Mala Sichuan in Sugar Land, TX, has been one of our go-to restaurants for a couple of years. We love the consistency in the flavor; the dishes are always bursting with authentic and vibrant Sichuan spices. However, we've noticed that the portion sizes seem to be getting smaller. It could be a figment of my imagination, but it's something that I've noticed. Nevertheless, we still come here a couple of times a month for to-go orders or to dine in. The service is quick and friendly, and the ambiance is cozy and welcoming. Despite the portion size concern, Mala Sichuan remains a favorite for its exceptional food quality and delicious offerings. Highly recommended for Sichuan cuisine lovers!
This place is absolutely 💯 PHENOMENAL!! We were here on a Saturday night, and I noticed 1 waiter handle 4 tables like a champ and never let her foot off the gas. Waitress was attentive, courteous, made recommendations, and thanked us for coming. I'm not sure if she was the only help for the night bit. Food came out fast, tasted unbelievably authentic, and extremely palatable and a memorable night. Take this from someone who RARELY eats fish, but when I saw the picture online , I knew this place was going to absolutely kill it. My foodie intuition kicked in and told me you could not pass it up, and boy, was I right on the money. The fish was not only flaky, no smell, and super juicy, spicy, and seasoned wonderfully and just a marvel to stare at. It had so many layers of texture, and it all came together well. The chow mein has definitely hand pulled and made that day of, and I can tell the chef put his heart on these dishes because they were a total knockout. P.S. The decor in this place is VERY inviting and worth taking pictures!!
Excellent food. Had the spicy crispy chicken as it seems to be highly recommended. Service was abysmal. Slow with no intention or care to reduce wait times. They seemed to be understaffed with only 1 person to take care of the lunch crowd. This 1 person having no sense of urgency, made it worse. Probably a good place to order take out. The portion sizes are large - makes up for the average price of $16 per dish.
“I’ve always enjoyed this restaurant—the food and service used to be very satisfying. However, in my recent visits, I noticed that both the food quality and service attitude have declined a bit, which is a pity. Perhaps because I’m a regular customer, the difference feels more obvious. I still hope to experience the same care and quality as before, and I believe that with a little more attention, the restaurant can bring back the warmth and passion that once made it stand out.”
We were pretty disappointed with the service we received. It was great when we first walked in— vibe was relaxing. There was no wait on a Friday night, and the female server was kind and attentive when we were initially seated at our table. It wasn’t until after our food was served.. was when the service was bad. Not once did anybody come by to check up on our group of 4. The servers would avoid eye contact and cater to the other tables while passing ours. It came to a point where we had to wave down the servers to finally get some attention after 10-15 minutes of no water and rice refills. The restaurant is already much smaller compared to the Katy location and it wasn’t extremely busy. It’s just quite fascinating how three front of house staff were able to neglect us in a room of about 30-35 people. I’ve been to the Katy location a couple of times, and I’ve never received this kind of service. And if you haven’t been to the Katy location.. they are very on top of everything. Even with a FULL HOUSE with a restaurant of much bigger capacity. And they had around the same number of front of house staff too. I’m glad that at least the food at this Mala is of good quality and is the same as Katy. But all in all, you guys really need to learn from the Katy location. I’d rather make the drive and get better service than to sit here and feel neglected.
I visited Mala Sichuan on Sunday for a halal meal. Our dishes arrived on a tray mixed with other tables’ orders with no indication of which were halal, no toothpicks or labels. The waiter assured me they were halal. Unfortunately, the beef dish was inedible, overwhelmingly salty, and I had to remove it from my mouth. The salt was so strong that we had to go to another restaurant just to cleanse our palate. I informed the waiter, who simply said “sorry.” With experiences like this, we will not be coming back anytime soon.
